For $5.90 you get a great little pie of choice and a nice Soup or Salad.
I got a Beef Pie, which was alright. I wish the pie was creamier. My friend who got the Chicken pie was very pleased. The salad was great! Very large with plenty of lettuce. Drinks are all around $1.75-2.50.
But overall this is a very good deal. Everything is very clean inside, and it's a cute little neighborhood to walk around in.
They also have desert pies! -

I was looking to try something new for lunch and remember having walked past this place a few times and thought about going in but never had the time.. Checked it on my favorite review site, that would be Yelp for the slow witted here :), and there were lots of good reviews.
I have to say I've not really much to complain about. I asked to have my pies heated and they were quickly, maybe to quickly, as they weren't all that warm.
I had a chicken pie and a basque beef pie. Both were good, nice crust, fresh tasting but a little bland and blah. I'd expect a fresh pie to be more flavorful. I would get the chicken again, I think I would take a pass on the beef in the future on top of it's blandness everything in side had a kind of mushy consistency that wasn't all to pleasant.
In fact I kind of regret getting the beef, not because it was that bad. It wasn't bad, not really all that good either it just was. No it's true crime was it was too filling. Between the two pies I couldn't eat anymore and there were a lot of sweet pies there all of which looked like I would have enjoyed them more than the beef.
It was very reasonably priced, even cheap. Two pies and a drink(ginger ale) came to a little under $10 and I was stuffed.
I'd be back if for nothing else than to try some of those sweet pies. I don't think I'd be a regular there though or take more than a couple to five minute walk to get there. -

Yum. I've only tried the savory pies, never the dessert pies. What is my problem? I need dessert pies! They all look really tasty.
For $5.90, you can get a pie + salad, or pie + soup. Definitely a cheap lunch and though the pies are small, they are dense and filling.
Improvements suggestion: A bit more flavor in some of the pies. More than just lettuce in the salad. Throw in some carrots etc.
Overall = yummmmm! -

Great stop for a quick, healthy meal. Delicious dessert pies, too.

Tasty but rather small hand pies. My hands aren't that large either.

Being the fatty that I am, I thought it'd be a great idea to have a snack in hand as I walked down to the Outer Sunset to buy more food. Hehe So I stopped by Peasant Pies and ordered the Beef and Potato Pie.
I asked for it warmed up to take to go but unfortunately, it wasn't fully warmed. By the time I got close to the center, I was already too many blocks into my walk to turn back. How disappointing...I hate lukewarm food! As for the pie itself, I didn't think it was flavorful enough and the potatoes were especially bland. But it might have been a result of it still being cold. I'm a huge pie crust fan and I have to say they do it right. So I might have to give them another try. Next time, I'll be sure to eat there or close by! -

I've only tried a couple of the dessert pies, while good it didn't blow my socks off. Also I wish they were bigger than they were.

MMM, love the basque beef pie. The chicken is decent too but has more potato than chicken. I also tried the pumpkin - eh, I would skip.
But at $3 a pop, you really can't go wrong! -

This is literally a minute walk away from where I live and it's just extremely inexpensive. When I get home from school using the 24 bus, I would stop by this place and get myself a Chicken and.. something... peasant pie and a root beer. Satisfies me all the time and it's just a nice little thing to have for lunch, even though it's small; two is a meal already.
The pies are wonderful and flavorful, just make sure they're heated up well. What I would like to see is new flavors because the flavors I've been having are getting boring, unless I seize myself from buying their pies for a month or two. Good pies, good little place, needs more flavors. -

I know I am not alone when I say that there is really nothing appetizing about the word, or idea, of "peasant." It is a really funny word that makes me laugh just thinking about saying it out loud. This is what initially lead me to Peasant Pies when my bff used to be obsessed with them. I had to know how good these little pies must be considering they are associated with peasants.
They are totally awesome! I would do anything for one of these to be near my house. These little pies are my idea of a perfect meal. Flavorful, filling and pretty healthy - or at least you have the option to be healthy. The pies are really cute and fun to eat with your hands. Some favorites are the curried potato, spinach feta, and the chocolate flan.
A+ Peasant Pies! -

I had a Lentil and Yam Pie that was to die for~! So savory and soooo good. To top it off I had the cherry banana and chocolate pie. Flaky crusts and fresh ingredients...can't get much better than that1

Where slocopasty leaves me hanging, this place leaves me fulfilled.
Oh my goodness, the variety, the taste, the portability, the taste.
it's all pies people: indian, moroccan, traditional, dessert! They don't have anything I don't want to put in my mouth.
Excellent value. Two pies for $5-6 fills me up. The most trouble I have when visiting here is what to choose.
I visit every time I'm in SF. -

I love this place...it's a hand-held meal! They have soo many delicious veg options too - it's a shame though, they discontinued the curry potato pie, but they did replace i with a garbanzo curry, but the potato one ruled so hard.
I've gotten them to go before and they reheat well if done properly (do not microwave, respect the pie and use an oven). -

I would give this place 4 stars because the pie I had (I think there were mushrooms/zuccini/cheese and some other veggies in it) was delicious and really tasty especially when taken home and heated up in the oven. However, I'm giving it 5 stars simply because i have yet to find any other place similar to this in the city. I think the concept is adorable (I love little baby-sized foods and these pies fit in the palm of your hand) and the crust was really good as well!
Can' wait to return and try more pies. I don't know what the nutritional facts are on these babies but I don't think I intend to find that out. -

Don't know about you, but peasant pies remind me of fancy Hot Pockets (the poor man's empanada). Better price, though.
Go for their spicy clam tomato sauce peasant pie! (Try saying that three times fast.) It's shaped like a clam, and tastes of clams, garlic, and victory (naturally), and staves off hunger for hours. Before you panic, remember: it's not as spicy as they say.
This Peasant Pies location has light seating and friendly service.Listed in: SF Cheap Eats

Came here for the first time this Sunday afternoon around 2:15pm. Unfortunately most of the pies that sounded like ones I would want to order (the meaty, savory ones with chicken or beef) were gone. I ended up getting the pie and soup combo, which was a nice small lunch meal for $6. The soup of the day was minestrone, and I ended up getting the sausage, egg, and potato pie to go with it. While waiting for my pie to be heated, I noticed a small sign that said pies restocked after 2pm. Clearly NOT the case, as it was slim pickings. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though because daylight saving JUST happened... and MAYBE there's an off chance someone came in right before me and bought most of the pies.
All in all, I thought the food was good, though not great. However, the prices are reasonable, and I would like to come back to try some of their other pies (provided they don't run out again). -

This place is pretty decent. Was at UCSF Mission Bay for the first time and was deciding between Subway and this and decided to take a chance.
The pies are pretty easy to eat and decently yummy. I bought two because this was my dinner - if you're extremely hungry you'll need 3, and just having one will suffice as a solid snack.
I did notice that it wasn't quite as hot as I would have liked, but overall I was satisfied.
It was pretty quick overall, and they had pretty cool tables. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but I'take it over Subway. -

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Peasant Pies yet - I've been known to have breakfast here almost daily some weeks. Spicy Black Bean and Tofu is my hands-down favorite, though I do enjoy an Egg Veggie and Cheese at times. I pretty much love every pie I've tasted here with one exception: one month they featured a pie with blue cheese that was really not edible in my book - but props for trying.
The only complaint I have is their hours. They are perfect for breakfast, but opening at 9:30am is far too late to catch the morning commute crowd. I've left a message explaining that I know they'd have more business if they just opened an hour earlier and in the call back from the owner it was clear he didn't pay attention to my request - only explaining why they don't stay open until 8:30pm.
Regardless, they stick to simple, but surprisingly varied and fulfilling pies that in of themselves make for great meals! -

Walk and eat these meat-filled or veggie-filled pies. While I stayed in Noe Valley last month, there were a couple excursion days whereby I had no time for a proper meal in my own kitchen, so for a few bucks I grabbed the pie. I don't think I burned off the calories since I walked while I ate, but the body needs fuel, so what the hell.

My absolute favorite of the ones I've tried: curried potato. I'm still surprised at how good it was!
Not quite large enough for a meal, but definitely a fab choice for a mid-day snack. And even better at less than $3 each. -
Review from Eric A.
I thought the location and spot was quite cute. It gives an uppity feeling when you go in.
As far as the pies go, I think I would rather get an empanada or something. I don't know if I really enjoyed the dough/crust.
They're not that healthy if that is what people are looking for, so I'll have to come back again.
I do wish that the flavor was more partyful in my mouth (yes, partyful is a made up word). I will have to try a few more different pies next time -

Tasty, veggie friendly, very reasonably priced, and the man who works weekdays is really nice.
Four stars rather than five because I've gone here for 14 years, and really wouldn't mind a few new flavors every couple of years (other than the flavor of the month). -

A hole in the wall, literally. The owner is really sweet, sometimes even offers suggestions when you feel lost.
The pies are delicious. Not too big, just the right portion, one pie fills me up quite well. I keep going back, not only is it close to home, its very inexpensive too. -
Review from Albert L.
The good: The food, especially for the price. Basque beef, black bean and tofu, and zucchini/mushroom/cheese are my favorites. They taste healthy but not TOO healthy. You know what I mean.
The bad: The service is really hit-or-miss. Depending on who's there, pies can be underheated, and the person behind the counter can be terse. If this were the Soup Nazi it'd be one thing, but given the homey, almost quaint decor and feel of the place, you'd expect the service to be warmer in kind.
The ugly: Not open late enough. But that's just me.
I'm harsh because I love you, Peasant Pies, underheated warts and all. Still an easy 3 stars, especially as I'm sitting here by the window on a sunny day, reading a textbook with a basque beef pie in hand :) -

Very interesting and delicious concept. I stopped in with my cousins and husband and we decided to share two: the sausage, egg and cheese and the basque beef. We all liked the sausage, egg, and cheese more. Don't get me wrong, the beef one was good too but I think I was the one who liked it best. For less than $6 for two, it's a great little snack that will hold you over until your friends are ready to meet up with you for a full meal later and they're running late ;)

Review from Omid T.
When I caught wind that a San Francisco shop was baking up small, portable savory pies with fresh, organic ingredients, I couldn't hold back the drool. My mind wandered back to many a pie purchased at train stations in England, late night stands in Australia, and small bakeries in New Zealand, and I couldn't wait to go buy myself some snack-sized memories of my journeys to the lands of our Colonial cousins.
The Cornish pasty... The Aussie steak pie... The Kiwi lamb pie...
All standards-bearers in the global savory pie scene.
None of them found at Peasant Pies.
Instead, there's a not-so-dazzling array of creative, non-traditional (and some traditional) pies, ranging from funky veggie combos to the classic chicken pot pie. And they're all booooo-ring.
And you can't chalk it up to the fact that they serve healthy, natural food.
At all the outlets where I gorged on savory pies in other countries, they've all been the newfangle sort that pride themselves on their use of local, organic, sustainable meat and vegetables. Even the ones at train stations. So with the literal cornucopia of excellent foods available in Northern California, Peasant Pies has no excuse whatsoever for not being at least as good as pie outlets in those other countries who have no gastronomic reputation to speak of.
I know savory pies aren't a huge tradition around here. We've got a long way to go to catch up with the countries that for some reason are still loyal to the Queen.
But I will stake my very own US citizenship on a wager that with our ingredients and our culinary know-how, we can make a savory pie better than any of those sheep shaggers. USA! USA! USA!
You just won't find it at Peasant Pies. -

Right now, I am trying to take a nap and one of my neighbors is banging on his back door yelling, "Karen! Your lights are on! Hang up and turn off your lights, you fucking bitch!" No joke. This has been going on for about 15 minutes. He will take a break every 30 seconds or so to breathe/huff around the backyard but other than that, its pretty much non-stop, "YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON, you dumb fuck! Don't you get it?! How fucking stupid can you get? YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON!!!!" I'm about to yell out the window, "Karen knows her fucking lights are on and the bitch just doesn't care SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!"
ANYWAY, Peasant Pie's are delicious and I think I might go get one right now just to get away from this asshole. They have many vegan varieties, my favorites being the lentil and the moroccan eggplant and olive. They are also sold at stores around the bay area but they are much better fresh out of the oven.
Here he goes again. Why does he care so much? If Karen has a dead battery in the morning that'll learn the bitch! JESUS CHRIST!

Meat pies always make me think of Sweeny Todd: "Have a little priest..."
So if those two could serve up a little priest, vicar, and poet...why shouldn't I go for a little peasant?
Kristina R. helped me navigate through the assortment behind the glass display case. I ended up with the Tomato/Clam savory pie for lunch and the Chocolate/Banana/Cherry sweet pie for dessert. Both delicious. Warmed for my pleasure.
Our meal was quick and inexpensive (at less than $3 per pie, they're cheaper than your average cupcake!) - perfect for a lunch on the run or an after-school snack.

"Peasant pies are sort of like veganized Cornish pasties. Assembled from whole wheat dough and filled with vegan/vegetarian ingredients, they taste best fresh out of the oven. Peasant pies can also be found in grocery stores throughout the bay area through: http://peasantpies.com/p...
They're a refreshing alternative to Hot Pockets and Hostess pies. Curried potato yam, Moroccan lentil, and zucchini mushroom are my favorites. The seasonal Basque Beef is also good. -

The savory pies here where tasteless and bad. I don't understand what these other reviewers found to be so good. My pie was cold in the middle, and the pie crust was like a bad wheat bread dough that wasn't cooked properly. I wasn't impressed by this place in the least. Take my advice and skip it.
I asked for a fork and knife and the women working there made jazz hands to indicate I was supposed to use my hands. She did it in a annoyed kind of way. I wasn't happy with being mocked. -

Do you know what Hot Pockets are?
No? Then forget I ever mentioned them. You're better off.
If you have been unfortunate enough to experience a Hot Pocket (oh, they gave you the runs, too?), then be happy to know that there is something waaaaay better. Like a schmazillion times better.
Peasant Pies are a great snack or light meal. They're fast, easy, healthy, and tasty. My favorite is Moroccan lentil, but there are enough options to please everyone. They've got dessert pies, too!

I have to update my review because I eat at Peasant Pies 2-3 times a week and feel like I'm obligated to give them 5 stars. It's MOSTLY because I work in the area and it's convenient...BUT I have to admit that on my days off I have frequented the Irving street location.
My faves:
-Ham Egg and Cheese
-Curried Potato
-Spicy Clam

A Peasant Pie may be a commuter's best friend. They are easy to eat out of hand and don't leave everything covered in grease.
I was very surprised how light and healthy they were.
My personal favorite was the Curried Potato, followed by the Basque Beef and Chicken Potato. The Spinach & feta and Zucchini pies were very bland compared to the others.
It doesn't hurt this place is across the street from Chocolate covered which will get your hands all messy if you eat it in your car.Listed in: Value Dining

I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but I must say, after last week I think I have a new found appreciation for their food.
Breakdown: Hit up the Wells Fargo on 24th, desperately find something to eat on your 5pm "lunch" at work, that will a) last till then in your locker, b) taste okay/ fill you up because you won't be able to eat again until after 10pm. Run back down, catch the J and get down town before 1. You have 30 minutes to accomplish this feat.
Bank, check. Food? Peasant Pies!
And then a funeral procession passed by and took what felt like 15 minutes to clear right as I got to the corner of Castro & 24th. Run in, grab November pie of the month, spinach & feta & a water.
Run down to Church St. & 24th just in time to catch the J... needless to say, I was quite happy I had these later on, as the next 4 hours were quite grueling.
A vegetarian girl threatened to steal my spinach & feta one when she saw it.... luckily, she lives near the one in the avenues. -

My waist line expands when I even think of eating anything with the word 'pie' in the description - but these little gems are worth it!
These little pleasures are handheld treats. I have only tried a few of the savory combinations, and they have all been a powerful punch of flavor and 'real' ingredients. The pies are cheap and good! What more could you want? I 'want' to try one of those blueberry gems right now, if I wasn't so lazy to walk 4 blocks to get one.
Simply brilliant, flavorful creations for the right price and the perfect distance from my front door! If only they had 'lite' versions I would have given them 5 stars. (gosh I'm a bitch) -

Mini Treasures to Have and to Hold.
This is what they are peddling at Peasant Pies in Noe.
Heated? Why Shuwa!
Dessert? Yessir!
I treated myself to 2 pies - shit at $2.50 each, who are you trying to kid NOT leaving with at least 2? The nice man heated my spicy eggplant savory choice and brought it to me in my bar seat at the window. It was cold outside, but with my warmed spicy eggplant pocket of pleasure, who the hell cared? Crust was crispy on the outer, moist and good on the inner. Filling was wondrous. Spicy, hot and flavor to go. I could only dream of what my handheld pumpkin pecan perfection would taste of.
But, in the guise of modesty, I chose to pretend that I was in fact going to save it for a later time, but we both know I tore into that thing upon vehicle entry. I loved the pumpkin. It was sweet, it was creamy, it was spiced like only pumpkin can be. Sprinkling of pecan throughout, and topped with the little gems as well, this was truly a treat. A thin layer of apricot jam on top seals the deal.
The only thing lacking here was that mini sweet pie's crust. I found it dry and unsweetened - not in a good way. It detracted from the overall experience.
Do not let this small, small deterrent uh - deter you. I love this little spot. It is happiness in a portable package. Additionally, you can find the World's Lowest Bathroom Sink in here. I swear. -

Lo, a concept that has eluded the fast food industry since it's inception...
Not just fast food, but TASTY fast food that's low in fat, healthy, affordable, and eat-with-your-hands friendly! Don't worry about which pies are good and which ones aren't. Although I lean towards the Chicken-Potato-Veggie and the Moroccan Lentil, I've tried them all....and they're ALL DANG GOOD.
Two pies runs somewhere around the five buck mark, with the price dropping somewhat within 30 minutes of closing time. It's a healthy, sin-free snack that satisfies without busting your budget or breaking your diet.
I like to grab two before I head over to the "The Peaks" on Castro to knock back a few beers and check out a Giants game. They're a good pre-drinking digestive buffer, and they sit in your stomach along with three pints of Anchor Steam a lot better than the free Hot Dogs the bar offers on game days.Listed in: Noe Valley while avoiding the…
