Review from Rob C.
The Signature Pearl Latte is a thousand times better than anything Starbucks has to offer. Just typing that sentence triggered a craving for a big cup... Mmmmm.
The Pearl Cup is a great place to study, work or unwind and even has dedicated parking. It can get a little crowded at times so make sure you have a plan B. Luckily, I scored a parking spot right in front of the shop on my last visit.
Not just a coffeehouse, Pearl Cup also has tasty panini's and treats to satisfy your hunger craving.
Oh, and the readers of D Magazine ranked Pearl Cup Coffee the best coffeehouse in 2011. No biggie. -

I like Pearl Cup well enough. It is a reasonably good coffee house but no single aspect nor the entire picture is worthy of the incredible praise the place is given by many. I ordered a large coffee with flavoring and the java was fesh, hot, served quickly and contained a generous portion of flavoring syrup. The coffee was good for sure and the price was reasonable and the place seems to attract an interesting clientele but I have seen other coffee houses that have a better more homey atmosphere, better parking and more ample outdoor seating areas. The decor is the cool modern style seen in a number of these places but for some reason this space does not invite someone to linger, relax and stay a while. I sat outside on the proper patio on my visit. The inside was surprisingly crowded and loud for a weekday in the early afternoon so the patio was a good option but even there I felt cramped and even with the sunshine on my face, I felt like drinking up and moving on instead of taking my time.
I like the Pearl Cup, the quality of the coffee and the price were both good but this place is only solid, not the second coming of Central Perk. -

I started this review at the beginning of 2011 so it seems only fitting it took me a year to finish. My first venture to Pearl Cup was to meet with a potential freelance client to talk about some work over a cup of non-chain coffee. At the time, I wasn't really into the whole coffee thing so I let my company suggest what to order. She wisely ordered two of their signature Pearl Lattes.
I'm not kidding when I say this - that was the moment I became truly hooked on coffee. Before this trip, I was a cup every two month drinker.
It was rich and full of flavor with just enough sweetness and foam to make it a perfect after dinner coffee/dessert for me.
To me, the Pearl Cup is what a coffee shop should be. It reminds me of Common Grounds in Waco and Uncommon Grounds in Denton -- two coffee shops I frequented more than I should have while in college. It's a little funky, a little independent, a little hip and a little prep.
In my visits since then, I've gone for business, to work on my own, I've shared tables with friends and complete strangers and never had any issues with any aspect of the place. Everyone from the baristas to the regulars to the first-timers seem to be genuinely happy to be there.
As for the potential freelance client I met with on my first trip, she's since become my amazing girlfriend. To say I'm partial to Pearl Cup is to say I'm partial to breathing. -

I was blown away by this place in 2009, but I'm afraid my last visit was not so great.
Parking is kind of a pain, finding a table is kind of a pain. Good for them, it means it's a popular place, but it's still a pain. I've never had such problems at their competitor on Murray Street.
The menu used to have something called an Italian Cappuccino which I loved. Its successor, the "Cappuccino," costs a bit more, is about 1/2 the size, and really tastes like nothing special. WTF? I wouldn't have believed it's the same thing.
Totally out of love with this place, sad to say. -

I was visiting a good friend in Dallas for the weekend. Knowing my addiction for espresso, she suggested we visit Pearl Cup Coffee. It has earned the title of the best espresso in Dallas.
The cafe itself is a very open space with a clean, modern feel. Despite its layout it was actually pretty quiet inside. There were a lot of people working on laptops.
I ordered a soy cappuccino. It was delicious and came with some beautiful latte art. My friend ordered the signature latte. It was nice, but a little too sweet for me.
Definitely enjoyed my experience here. I felt right at home...a trendy place in Dallas to enjoy some well-made espresso! -

I had blue bottle co coffee in San Francisco during the summer and loved it. Unfortunately, we dont have it here. But instead...WE HAVE PEARL CUP! YEEEPIE!!!! I tell my friends that this is my blue bottle co replacement because the coffee is just as good and it's so muchhhhhhhh better than starbucks. omg *drools*
I've only been here once and this place has completely won me over! I had their signature pearl latte and it was soooo gooood!!! at first I asked for soy milk because I'm Asian and 90% of us are lactose intolerant. I always ask for soy replacement so I wont get sick after. The barista said it wouldnt be as good if I got soy so I listened and kept everything as it is. I was afraid that it would make me sick after but good thing it didnt. I must warn you, their lattes are addicting.
I was here on a Sunday afternoon and the whole place was packed! I wanted to sit at a table near an outlet for my macbook but nobody wanted to leave! I kept looking around for a table and give them the "come on, leave, eye" but they wouldnt budge...fail! fine, you win! I'll just sit at the counter...without an outlet. One good thing about sitting at the counter is that you can talk to the cute baristas and you can see everything.
This place is quiet so it's good to study. I don't think it's wise to bring your friends here and gossip though. The tables are close to each other and everybody can hear your conversation. One of my favorite things to do is sitting at a coffee shop with my eskimo hat (like the one in the profile picture) when weather is cold and have some "me" time. So I'm planning on coming here every Sunday when I'm in town visiting my mother. -

Currently, my favorite coffee place in Dallas. My all-time favorite is still Buon Giorno but that means a trip to the Mid Cities.
Pearl cup is best known for their latte by the same name. Personally, I get the cappuccino with an extra shot of espresso. I also love the cinnamon rolls they have delivered from Empire Bakery! They have other assorted pastries, muffins, etc. as well. They sometimes make crepes which are very good but it depends on who happens to be working that day.
For the non coffee drinker, there are several choices of bottled soft drinks (coke and sprite from Mexico, Dublin Dr. Pepper, sparkling water, etc.)
You will likely find pearl cup to be steadily busy with a mixture of people reading and/or studying. Even though it is not loud, I would suggest earphones if you have trouble concentrating. Free Wi-Fi is available.
Quality of the coffee is very good as is the preparation. It's a nice, low key place to hang out with a friend on Henderson Avenue. Oh, and there are several other bars and restaurants within walking distance. -

Knox-Henderson, with all its uppity shops, bars, and eateries could use something hip. Of course, it cannot be TOO hip. This is not Deep Ellum, after all. Thus, Pearl Cup provides a solid buzz joint, on point. There is the necessary "local advertisements" in the corner next to the trash.
There is even a menu written in chalk! Fashion-wise, the clientele are dressed in very unique garments. And they all have hip bags, to boot.
The establishment offers an abundance of seating, but it was pretty packed on Sunday afternoon, so make sure you get there at a convenient time to get some seating. The coffee itself was solid. Not literally solid... that would be inconvenient and not delicious.
Give TPC a shot if you are in the area! -

What is it with N.TX and their stainless steel tables and cold interiors? Geez, people, spice it up a bit. Add some textiles, some wood, a heartbeat.
Since so many people are hot in the pants for The Pearl Cup, I was expecting to fall head over heels. This did not happen, unfortunately.
While, I admit, I have not had their famed latte, their brewed coffee was bitter and tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. In addition, it was late summer and it felt as though the A/C couldn't keep up with the demand. We actually ended up leaving to find relief from the heat at Louie's across the street.
I am sure I will be back at some point, but I am not in a huge rush. -
Review from Alison L.
My friends absolutely rave about this place so I decided to come check it out and catch up on some reading. I appreciated the abundance of seating (I loved the outdoor patio on a beautiful day) and that the space was cozy but still trendy. As a dedicated Yelper, I felt that I couldn't leave without trying the Signature Pearl Latte so I got it iced and was pleasantly impressed, creamy yet not heavy and good coffee flavor without being overpowering.

Im giving it a 5 because I haven't found better in DFW. It can't compare to my favorite spots on the west coast, but as for DFW, Pearl Cup reigns supreme. If you live close enough, there is absolutely no reason to not go here, it is about the same cost as Starbucks and it is infinitely better.
Staff obviously knows what there doing, they pull shots well, make good lattes, and are very friendly. It's a shame there aren't more artisan roasters / coffee shops around here. -
Review from Sydney A.
What a sweet little spot that they have created here at the Pearl Cup! Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. 50% Modern Coffee shop, 30% European Cafe, 15% Fifty's sock-hop diner, 5% Art Gallery.
My boyfriend got the infamous Pearl Latte and fell in love. Unfortunately they do not have a lactose-free version so I went with the regular iced Latte and had no complaints! Delicious.
We split a cranberry cookie and sat at the bar. We watched the baristas make fresh-leaf drip tea, listened to them talk about her love-life, and greet customers by name. Since I was only in town for a few hours we asked for a recommendation on a good place to eat in the area. No surprise, their suggestion was fantastic (Vickery Park -- but that's another review in itself).
Overall it was a wonderful experience visiting the Pearl Cup. And clearly this is no secret as the place was wall-to-wall packed with macbooks and couples around 7pm on a Saturday night.
A definite recommendation from this coffee lover! -

The coffee was fine, but the atmosphere killed it for me. It is just like Starbucks and doesn't have the fun independent coffee shop feel. The people behind the counter were a little snotty too. I felt like they were making fun of my when I ordered soy. I would rather go other places for sure.

For my LA peeps...
Dallas: LA:
The Pearl Cup is to... Intelligentsia
Buon Giorno is to... Urth Caffe
We certainly take for granted LA's amazingly diverse premiere restaurant and cafe options!
If you're seeking the Intelligentsia hipster vibe, you'll be sipping espresso here.
Twice I had the pleasure of trying The Pearl Cup's Faux 2% Caffe Latte and their offerings were consistent. Faux is what the barista shouted out because they had mix skim with whole to make faux 2%.
5 stars? Yes, because it was the closest thing I could find to Intelligentsia. Should they have been an LA coffeehouse, they would be ranked just below Coffee Commissary on Fairfax, but on par with Portola Coffee Lab in the OC.
For reference, here's how my LA/OC coffeehouses stack up:
1. Intelligentsia
2. Espresso Cielo
3. Coffee Commissarry
4. Portola Coffee Lab
5. Kean Coffee
6. Urth Caffe
For my DFW peeps...
There's a reason D Magazine ranked The Pearl Cup #1 Coffeehouse in Dallas. They offer a great product that is consistent while having friendly, courteous staff in a modern cafe setting.
I was impressed that the cashier recognized me from my first visit and remembered that I wanted 2% milk. As an out of towner, that instilled confidence that The Pearl Cup cares about their patrons.
I had the privilege of trying a few cafes in Dallas and found this place to serve the best cup of espresso.
My Faux 2% Caffe Latte was served hot and was smooth possessing some natural sweetness from the espresso shots and were not bitter! Latte art was beautiful.
Chai, Teas, Mexican Coke, SmartWater, etc are great alternatives if you feel like drinking something other than coffee.
If you're hungry, check out the menu board. Their paninis look very appetizing...and they also have a variety of baked goods!
I have two gripes and they have to do with the parking situation and the cafe's room temperature.
Parking sucks really bad. Good luck finding a spot.
Maybe it was because of the 100+ degree weather...all I know is that it was pretty hot inside the cafe the entire hour we were there. Air conditioning vents were showing signs of blowing, but they didn't push out enough cool air. I perspired the whole time.
If I'm find myself back in Dallas, I'll definitely be making this my go to spot for espresso. If you live in the surrounding area, The Pearl Cup should be your one and only spot for espresso!Listed in: The Best Little Coffeehouse in…

I've since returned here a few times, and the service and quality of the coffee have been extremely inconsistent.
The last time I went here was on a sleepy Saturday afternoon; I asked the girl behind the counter if they had any mugs left (I was doing some Christmas shopping and thought a mug and bag of coffee would make a great gift!), and she was pretty rude in saying "No!" to me. Gee, thanks, put a little sugar on that the next time someone asks why don't you? This girl also ended up making my drink (a Chai Latte), and didn't know that you weren't supposed to put espresso in it! She asked her colleague to pull the shot for her, and her colleague had to tell her! Wow.
No latte art in my cup this time either. Surprise!
Given how out-of-the-way for me this spot is, I think I'll look around and find a different cafe to frequent after this experience.1 Previous Review: Show all »

FINALLY I have found a an excellent coffehouse in Dallas. After moving here I was sadly surprised to encounter a stark lack of decent coffeehouses - lots of Starbucks though (which is fine....for certain things...not lattes.). Then after doing my research on Yelp and seeing some glowing reviws, I stopped by.
I had the Pearl Latte - which is DELICIOUS. I must say, though, in all fairness, not all the baristas are equally skilled at perfecting it (sometimes the foam is off). But whatever "mixture of types of milk" (verbatim, this was the explanation I was given when I asked what a Pearl Latte was), it is YUMMY. It's slightly sweet and complements the espresso very nicely
I have been back about every other day for a Pearl Latte. It's just that good. And nevermind that it's not really on my way anywhere, and the small one costs over 4 bucks (!). I should also say that seating is clearly insufficient as it is almost always packed, even on Saturday mornings, and it clearly geared towards small groups or laptopping/working-type situation. Parking is not abundant. But the coffee is de-li-cious, so if you're a serious coffelover, this is a must. -

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have been here. I stop in to grab a warm beverage while waiting for the bus. Every time I fear missing the bus and today it happened. All I ordered was a hot tea and it took over 5 minutes to make. Their prices are significantly higher than other coffee shops and they move so slowly. Usually I get a lattee and it's not that amazing. Skip this place if you're in a hurry.

Review from Khoa N.
Not bad... not bad at all this latte. I would definitely go to The Pearl Cup than Starbucks any day. My friend tried this specialty hot chocolate but she said it wasn't that good so I guess if you go here, then get the Pearl Latte. The atmosphere has this industrial feel to it but still cozy. Parking can be a hassle because of the area this shop is located. Maybe because of the hours I always show up at but it's always full here, not many empty tables (there are some outside but it was too cold for anyone to sit out there anyways). The service is good. I can see why many "hipsters" like hanging out here.

I've never been a big coffee shop guy but during a recent trip to Dallas, I decided to check these guys out. Their picture on Scoutmob had me practically drooling for an Italian panini and latte (yes at the same time).
I had their signature Pearl Latte and I think I've been converted. I would drink this every freakin day if I lived in Dallas. Perhaps I should consider moving...
The place is very chill and relaxing, but make sure you find a seat because they're kind of hard to come by. -

LOVE. THIS. PLACE. The coffee is amazing!!!
I never used to think that I would be a coffee snob, but after having their signature latte, everything else is just blasé. I can never go back. It's just that good.
Needless to say, I always stop in for their Pearl Latte whenever I'm in the area. Whenever my coffee friends are in town, I introduce them to this place. They're never disappointed. And they shouldn't be.
The reason why their signature cup is so good is a result of how the beans are roasted. For the Pearl Latte, the beans they use are roasted in a cast iron roaster. Is this getting a little technical? Maybe...but it explains why the coffee is so good. Think of cooking with your great grandmother's cast iron skillet and you get the idea. The result is excellent tasting coffee. How do I know this? The roaster happens to be my neighbor.
In any case...if you don't believe me. Try it. You might just be hooked...for life. -

Look. I realize that some people have been judging me (well deserved) for giving this place such a stupidly low starred review based on a one-time visit. Believe me, I've been mean-mugging myself every time I look in the mirror. (And dude that was like two (!) years ago.) I'm here to fix this problem.
Hi. I'm Melody. I gave you three stars once. Why? Well maybe my taste buds were on strike that day. Maybe I was suffering a cold and didn't even know it. Like that one time in high school (no, not at band camp) when I threw out a whole jug of OJ because I thought it went bad, when really I was just hopped up on Advil Cold and Sinus. Man, was my step mom mad. Ahem. Anyway. The point is, I was wrong. I happen to lurve you Pearl Cup and here's why:
Your cookies. They make me want to say things like "OMGWTF." Also, the fact that you have breakfast paninis made with marshmallow fluff and Nutella. OMGWTF. Your coffee IS amazetown, especially your French press and drip. Your interior is super chill and the little patio out front makes me want to sit down with a friend and say things like "OMGWTF, have you tasted my cookie?" before my friend answers back "that's what she said."
You're independent, tasty, uber laid back and welcoming. Plus your little Yelp note says that you have silky micro-foam... and well that just makes me feel all fancy. So I'm sorry for the "A-OK" thing okay? You are so "Woohoo! As good as it gets!"Listed in: Things to Do When You're Alone…, Grilled Cheese in Dallas, Coffee Houses in Dallas, Places to Study in Dallas, Hummus and Pita Pies in Dallas

Other than the sparse parking here.. I like to come here for the Green Tea Almond lattes, served in a tall warm glass with just the right amount of foam on top. They have several different exotic teas to choose from and will customize it however you likkkeee!
Honestly, if it wasn't for my friend that wanted to come here one day, I would have forgotten about the Pearl Cup.. Considering it is past the "Slip Inn".
Locals should pride themselves in having the honor to have such a non-commercialized coffee shop. -

I am on a quest for good coffee this morning and found it at The Pearl Cup coffee shop. The atmosphere is modern contemporary feel.
My wife and I had a Macchiato (a real espresso version). I haven't had espresso this good since I was in Paris. My daughter and sons had the hot chocolate and one had the Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate which was phenomenal!
I will definitely return. -

I'm so late reviewing the Pearl Cup!!!
I'm obviously in the minority because I'm not a fan of the stainless steel tables and plastic chairs modern decor. I prefer my caffeine in a more comfy vibe. But I also like to spend my money off the beaten path so I came back for some cold drinks today. The iced mocha was perfection but the iced chai was too weak.
I was surprised to see so many people studying in here considering it's late July! It was definitely at capacity but the A/C was on full blast so we stayed and played a few games of mancala after spotting the last few chairs.
Overall I like the Pearl Cup but it might be a few months before I come back. -

I'm not a big coffe shop person at all but The Pearl Cup may have changed my mind. Met up with a couple of friends there on an early Sunday morning not really knowing anything about it. As soon as i open the door there is a line close to being out of the door. Which shocked me a bit didn't think a coffee shop would be this busy on a Sunday. The staff were very welcoming i ordered a vanilla latte and a yogurt gotta say while your waiting it's hard not to wanna grab a few cookies but at 10am wouldn't be the best of ideas. Wasn't a huge fan of the seating and the tables but the place was very chill which made up for the non friendly seating.
The palce stayed busy most of the morning till around 11 or so. The yogurt was good but after i was just craving a real breakfast. I will for sure be returning here. -

For the record, I am not a coffee drinker. That bias announced for a cafe, let the review commence.
The Pearl Cup is perhaps one of the best cafe's for Dallas. Chill, calm, a lovely mix of people; it fills the ambiance perfectly. Tea wise this place is above average.
I strongly recommend trying the Lavender Earl Grey Tea. They stock Sterling Tea, which along with being a local company, means it is loose leaf tea. The staff could use with some training on proper brewing times, but by using a loose leaf tea this puts the Pearl Cup above other cafes.
Its quite refreshing to find a cafe in Dallas that doesn't serve tea bag crap or try and come off overly pretentious.
My sister is addicted to their Pearl Cup Lattes, which is probably one of the reasons why I am classified as a regular here. -

Some great new baristas at Pearl not continue the tradition of composing delightful drinks, but have sped up the process remarkably as well. Stopping at Pearl Cup is always a highlight in my day, and now that the overall wait process has accelerated, I can make it a near-daily affair. Cheers!
P.S. If PC is ever lagging, you can always take a quick jaunt to "We Are 1976", next door, while you wait, and browse all their cool art objects and fun stuff. Pearl Cup and We are 1976 -- both stellar spots that give Dallas some "cool" points.1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Francisco, CA
One of the best in the new class of trendier independent coffee shops popping up around Dallas.
Be sure to ask for your coffee to be served in a "pearl cup" for the ultimate drink.*
Each pearl cup comes from rare gulf oysters that take twenty years to form these unique containers.
The cups infuse the already good coffee with an extra calcium nuttiness that coffenista Juan Sivet describes as "excelsior in both fit and finish, with pearlescent after-wash."
Since the cups can only be sold as single use, the price is a rather steep $4500 per cup. But like all good things in life, you get what you pay for.

The Coffee (especially the pearl latte) is 5 stars, the prices and food make it an overall 3 stars for me.
The Pearl latte is a must, very very delicious and not too sweet. The food doesn't quite live up to the coffee I am afraid and it's also pretty expensive, I had the peanut butter and banana panini. It was good, but it was basically something you can make at home and a small bundle of grapes was on the plate, just felt very homemade instead of the $5 you pay for it.
All in all, great coffee. -

Stopped by the pearl cup over the weekend for a pick me up and wow, the signature pearl cup latte lives up to the hype. I like the communal tables and there's a neat little architectural nod in the form of an asymmetrical patio.

Review from Kevin N.
As coffee shops go, I like what they have going on at The Pearl Cup: a diner-style counter gives way to scattered two and six top tables, plenty of outlets, some indie-centric soundtracking, and lots of concentration by those within. There's a small patio outside which, if you catch it on a good day, can almost help you tell time, since it faces the advancing progress of the sun. But I'm no Copernicus - I'm just a guy with an Italian soda, likely vanilla, assorted cubes rattling around and jousting with the straw that (quite literally) stirs the drink. I'm just hanging out.
As luck would have it I had occasion to hang out here over the course of a few days in between Dallas' recent bout of winter weather challenges - for two days it was downright pleasant outside, though that soon wasn't the case at all, and frankly wouldn't matter much were it not for the fact that I got to move around a little based on where I could chatter. Inside, soundtrack aside, can get a little studious, almost tomb-like, if you catch it at the right time of day with a crowd not intent on small talk. But I suppose that's a challenge with lots of coffee shops. The pastries looked good (and from what I could hear, are made fresh), but I didn't get the chance to try em. Next time. The Pearl Cup wasn't and isn't doing something no one's ever done, but they genuinely seem to be doing it local. Percolate on that for awhile.Listed in: Dallas

I am a sucker for coffee, hands down. After work one day the girlfriend heard of a great coffee place from the one and only Yelp. We decided to check it out. We spotted this cozy little bistro from the street and noticed it had the worlds smallest parking lot. We had to park in the street up the road. I was a little embarrassed walking in. Right away I noticed that my girlfriend and I were the only ones without Laptops or Macbooks. I almost felt like Amish person walking into Best Buy. When I was staring at the menu trying to figure out what half the stuff was, I decided to go what the several people in front of me ordered which was their Signature Latte. I heard several people in front of me request Latte Art. I was curious to see what that was exactly, although I never found out. There was very limited seating, we actually had to wait till people got up and rush to take there chairs. The atmosphere was really nice and the price was right not to mention that my latte was one of the best I have ever had. I guess they hold there reputation of the best Latte in Dallas.

Disclaimer: You must be totting around the newest edition of the Macbook and wearing a beanie to enter this coffee shop. Posers beware. You are not welcome here.
Okay, Okay....it is not that bad. And to be honest I feel pretty proud that Dallas has such a trendy little doo daa to complete the hipsterness of Henderson Avenue. The aesthetic of the place is welcoming and open. Not overflowing with old, ragged couches that look like they were pulled out of your grandma's basement, but very clean and austere with the perfect amount of color that puts your soul at ease. Likewise to the coffee and espresso selection.
Rather it's the double shot espresso latte or their grilled cheese panini everything has here has left my palate pleased.Listed in: What Makes A Hipster?, Wake Up!

A great coffee shop!! It is the type of coffee shop that you would see as the central setting of a movie or TV show set in San Fran or NYC.
Everyone seems to know everyone. They do seem to charge a little more but they also seem to care a little more. I got a normal cup of coffee and it was $2 even. Somewhat steep but it came in a real cup and was good and the people were nice, friendly and seemed authentic. I think a small coffee at Starbucks would be $1.80 or something and given the choice and especially if I was going to be hanging around reading the paper or something, I would much rather do it at a place like the Pearl Cup than at Starbucks. -

Suck it, Starbucks!
The Pearl Cup is not a megalithic corporate coffee company type coffee shop. They are not, to my knowledge, hell bent on world domination.
They do serve a really good product. There are plenty of places to sit down. Bring your laptop, if you want, because WiFi is available. If a little bite to eat is what you like with your coffee, they have you covered there, too.
I like this place, a lot. I wish there was one on every corner... uhh... wait... just... a... second.
