Unfortunately, the food isn't much to talk about, but luckily the amazing views are!

As I've said, the food is not what keeps the doors open here at the the Peaks of Otter.  It's the incredibly fantastic views you experience while driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the tranquil scene you are submerged in once you arrive.  The dining room overlooks the lake and Sharp Mountain and in the Fall this is a must see.  Too, the staff is extremely friendly and hospitable.

The food here was decent, but definitely overpriced. You're paying for the view- which is nice, Sharp Top is RIGHT there outside the giant windows.
Service was slow and pretty iffy- she forgot to bring items more than once, and my water glass stayed empty for long periods of time (which drives me crazy!). I'd come back here- but only because you have have no other choice in the area.

Thomas Jefferson loved the Peaks of Otter. When he built his summer home at Poplar Forest(about 20 mis. east)he made sure he could see it from there. Walk down the path outside the lodge to Pollys' cabin and try to imagine Jefferson and his pals there. You must take the bus up Sharp Top and then there is a walk(some say climb)up to the Peaks. The view is incredible! It is tempting to explore deeper away from the lodge but there are many black bear and some snakes, not to mention deer. The lodge is just o.k. nothing fancy to write home about, its just very quiet and clean and it serves its purpose. The restaurant needs work but its the only place there. Bedford is just down the mountain.

I like the lodge a lot, but the restaurant needs work. I want to point out first off that the service at the restaurant at both meals I had there was fantastic, really friendly and helpful. But the food was just mediocre and I felt kinda sick after eating it. One of their "vegetarian" offerings is a stir-fry cooked in oyster sauce, which is not vegetarian... Although at least they mentioned the ingredient so you at least know it's there, which is more than I can say for most restaurants.

The room in the lodge was rather spartan but comfortable and very clean. I appreciated the lack of TV and phone, but there are some funky design features that didn't work for me... The walls dividing the patios make it possible for guests in one room to walk to the patio of one next to it, which may be nice if you're traveling in a multi-room group but discovering your neighbor's kid kid on your patio tends to disturb one's romantic getaway.

All in all, I really like the place, but given the quality of the food in the restaurant, I wish the rooms has refrigerators or kitchenettes.

This place was alright. we were vacationing in Virginia and we had decided to drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to check it out. We wanted to take the scenic route and just kill some time.

We were driving all along the road nothing bad, no problems. Then out of the blue it gets foggy, okay, not bad I thought, we keep going, then it starts to rain.... still we keep going up the road. then next it starts snowing!

So with the help of a park ranger, who stayed behind our vehicle the whole time we found the Peak of Otter Lodge. we ordered some food and it arrived pretty slowly. This was a gigantic two or three story building with an elevator and kitchen, bar, billairds room, a beautiful lake, all you could want. there must have been at least 30 other people in the same situation we were in. I remember ordering two Hot Chocolates, one for Caroline and I.

We ate our food, which was alright, paid our bill. Took some pictures, walked around the property and basically waited for the snow to clean. Thankfully the mainenance shed was not far down the road and once the storm broke we decided to head down hill.

Very memorable experience.
