Review from Larena H.
Peaks is on the Seattle Foodie 100 list with their vanilla frozen custard. When I first saw that, I thought "Really? A plain ole vanilla custard made it to this list?" Then I tried it. I would like to formally apologize for my quick judgement in assuming that a mundane thing like vanilla custard didn't deserve its place on this list. Holy schnikeys that was tasty!
I had it with the mango sauce. The mango sauce was blended right in front of me. You couldn't ask for more fresh than that! My only complaint was that the sauce did overpower the custard a bit since it was *so* fresh. In the world of complaints, I'd say this ranks up there with complaints such as "I have four quarters instead of a $1.00 bill." Not a big deal, IMO. Next time I could probably just ask for less sauce.
You should give them a try! They have quite the selection, and they rotate a daily selection of treats.Listed in: Seattle Foodie 100

NO, IT IS NOT LIKE ICE CREAM.
I've brought many people here only to hear, "It tastes like ice cream," but it's so so so much better! The texture is definitely a lot more dense and silkier. Think of it like eating a Dove chocolate bar after eating a Hershey's. IT IS NOT THE SAME.
I always stick to the chocolate and vanilla, which they have every day. There are also flavors of the week and of the day, which are also good as well. I'm pretty upset I still haven't gone on a day where they have Maple Bacon. Dying to try it!
Peaks is just wonderful. So wonderful, in fact, I often dragged my boyfriend to get frozen custard when it was below 40 and raining. But hey, it's Seattle, and I have to get dessert somewhere! -

I love, love, love frozen custard. When I moved back to Seattle 5 years ago I looked all over for it, but to no avail. There were several blogs that bemoaned the fact that there was no frozen custard it Seattle, so when Peak's crossed my radar we packed up the family and headed their direction.
While the custard was OK, it didn't find it at all special. On top of that, their menu is a bit hard to read, and in my opinion it's over priced.
If you ever get the chance, Nielson's Frozed Custard in St. George UT, or Las Vegas does circles around this.
Not to say that the frozen custard market in Seattle won't improve, it just may take some time. -

It's hard to hate frozen custard. Especially at a place like Peaks! My brother and I popped by after planning to come here for, well... forever. And I'm sure glad we finally made it. The location reminded me of visiting a cozy little cabin. With ample room for small or large groups, it was easy to find a place to sit and eat some crazy creamy delicious treats.
Make sure to check out the flavor of the day calendar. You can see it in the store or online. As a fan of cheesecake, cherries and brownies, I was super stoked to see that a flavor combining all three ingredients was on the menu when I popped in. I can't even begin to describe how rich and tasty it was. And it's actually good that I don't because anyone reading this review would be forced to drop everything and get themselves a scoop. Or three!
Forget about counting calories here, treat yourself once in a while. I promise it'll be totally worth it. -

Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream, Frozen Custard...Which of these is the best?
Well, the last one, of course.
And the best frozen custard is (drum roll)....PEAKS Frozen Custard!
With inventive new flavors every day (Maple Bacon, Basil Chocolate, Pumpkin, Latte and so many more) you can always expect variety and uniqueness at Peaks. Their staple vanilla and chocolate with a variety of toppings never disappoint either.
Plus, an added bonus to eating at Peaks is knowing that most of the restaurant was decorated with reclaimed items (their coffee bar and register counter are made out of reclaimed wood from a bowling alley in Ballard). In addition, they use almost all compostable items for serving and eating custard. It's great.
And the staff is awesome too.
Peaks is my husband and I's favorite place to get dessert. Any day, any time. -
Review from Lilani E.
This 212th review is probably not necessary but I must say the silkiness of the custard is ahhh-mazing. I had the chocolate with their flavor of the day - pear cobbler. SO good.
The portions are HUGE. That's all I have to say. A small would be a large in my world, but then again, I have small hands.
Definitely a calorie splurge...but worth it! -

Beautiful bay leaf?! Don't be scared, its an amazing flavor of frozen custard! And don't you like trying things you've never tried before?! I do.
For the less adventurous, try vanilla, chocolate, and, today, peanut butter cookie dough. They have sundaes named for mountains. And fancy coffee drinks.
I love the inventive flavors, and make sure to ask for samples. -
Review from Andy W.
I've never had frozen custard before but one bite of their frozen custard changed my life. My feeling towards ice cream has never been the same ever since. Frozen custard is softer, smoother and richer than ice cream. This is what heaven would feel and taste like in your mouth.
They only have four flavors, one changes everyday. If you are curious, they have a calendar (also online) so you can see what flavors are featured each day. They make all their frozen custards in small batches throughout the day so you are always getting the freshest.
The staff here are super friendly. Prices are super reasonable for the quality you get.
I love their vanilla (available daily) and also their strawberries and cream (flavor of the day).
I can't wait to go back! -

I finally tried this place out as I'd driven by it numerous times since I live nearby.
We had an entertainment coupon for basically a buy one get one free.
The flavors they had were chocolate and vanilla (available everyday) and then chocolate turtle and chocolate cake. My friend and I both tasted the specials of the day.
We both got the "cake and eat it too" which was a slice of their homemade cake and a scoop of their custard plus a topping. He got boston creme pie w/ chocolate cake custard and caramel, I got the carrot cake w chocoalte cake custard and salted caramel.
The custard itself actually has the same consistency as ice ream (at least to me). It was creamy and rich.
My carrot cake was tasty and moist. The boston creme pie was good, but a bit dry.
Overall, good dessert spot, but I think next time, I may just stick to a scoop or two in a cone. I kind of wish they had more daily flavors, but they have an online calendar that tells you what flavors are being offered that day, which comes in handy. -
Review from Jon L.
Fell in love with Peaks Frozen Custard at a Bite of Seattle a couple years ago. What I learned from that experience is frozen custard is not ice cream. While it does taste rich like ice cream, frozen custard does not retain its shape for very long. It is quick to melt. Eating it in the sun only accelerates this process.
Visited their storefront for the first time recently. It is a comfortable abode in the Roosevelt District near Whole Foods. There is no on-site parking, but there is a good amount of street parking nearby. The ones closest to the store have pay meters, but if you head further north those disappear.
The store has a decent amount of seating inside and outside. There is also free wi-fi offered here. Password is required which is displayed at the counter.
As for the selection, I found the menu board somewhat confusing. Keeping this simple, they have a handful of flavors available daily which can be served on its own in a cone or cup or as sundaes. The old standbys (chocolate and vanilla) plus two daily flavors which you can find out about by going to the store website's flavor forecast page.
If the flavors don't float your boat, they have a refrigerated case of pints and quarts of different flavors available as well. For those not in the mood for frozen custard, they do also have several selections of desserts here including cheesecake, carrot cake and chocolate cake on the day that I visited. All of which were reasonably priced at around $3 a slice.
I tried the vanilla custard ($3 for a mini cup) and picked up a chocolate & almonds ($5 a pint) and a slice of carrot cake ($3) to go.
The mini size of custard seemed a bit smallish, but it was the right size for a dessert after lunch. Just like at the Bite, it totally delivered. The texture looks like frozen yogurt or soft serve ice cream, but I am loving this even more than those. I have to say the vanilla frozen custard from Peaks is one of my favorite frozen desserts in Seattle.
I was not as enamored with the chocolate & almonds pint. It was kind of one note. I did like the almonds and that it was locally sourced. I think perhaps mixing it with another flavor or pairing this with a piece of cake or pie would help. In hindsight, I should have paired it with the carrot cake which was pretty good on its own. The frosting was not overly sweet which is a plus.
If you love ice cream, I believe you will like frozen custard too. But be forewarned that this is a dessert best eaten ASAP and inside. I would not recommend getting a cone with custard and eating it in 80 degree weather unless you are okay with having sticky hands by the time you are done with it.Listed in: The Daily Double

I wish their frozen moose tracks were a regular flavor here. It is made of vanilla custard with fudge ribbons and peanut butter cups. I savored this as much as I could...kinda hard when it's hot outside and the custard is melting at a faster rate. Other than that, I usually stick to vanilla custard with fudge topping.
Peaks also makes frozen custard cakes. Now I gotta make hints at my friends that I want one for my birthday. ;) -

I was heading home from a long, hot (but fun) day at work, when I hit traffic on I-5 right around the U district. I took it as a sign that I should go get some frozen custard. I got the strawberry lemonade with salted caramel in a waffle cone and it was delicious! I have been here quite a few times, and I enjoy it every time. They have rotating flavors in addition to the usual vanilla and chocolate, so it is always a pleasant surprise to see what the flavor is when I walk in. The employees are always friendly and helpful, and I often see the owner in there working alongside his employees....with a big smile on his face. The place itself is cute, with lots of tables and good ambiance, and it is a great place to have a meeting.
So if you are in the mood for something frozen and delicious, hit up Peaks. You will not be disappointed! -

One thing I can't get back home in Northern California is frozen custard.
I came here recently with a friend and was quite impressed. Having never had frozen custard before, I at first imagined something like chilled pastry cream, but instead found the looks-like-ice-cream, tastes-like-custard treats at Peak's utterly fantastic.
The only thing stopping me from giving this place 5 stars is that I don't have any other frozen custard places to compare it with, so I can't assert that it's THE BEST, but it's damn good nonetheless.
Peak's also serves standard ice cream shop fare, such as sundaes and root beer floats (the blackboard proclaiming a panini felt a little out of place). There are only a few frozen custard flavors at any time -- vanilla, chocolate, and a couple of other rotating ones. I ordered the vanilla, which was excellent, and a pretty good value at under $3 for a scoop.
Go here if you're in the area. Especially if you're in Seattle visiting. You won't regret it. -

Peaks is great, we love topping our evenings with some custard. The only reason for the 4 stars is the lack of flavors. They always have vanilla and chocolate, but it's hit or miss on the additional two "flavor of the day"s...sometimes to die for, other times just average.

Hands down one of the best desserts I've ever had!! Sooo good!! I love Molly Moon's... but this is just the icing on the cake. It is so smooth and creamy!! The guys being the counter were supper helpful as it was my first time there... but man we were not disappointed. They allowed us to try out the different flavors and made some on point recommendations.
*Must try* their Boston creme pie!!! Omg I was in heaven.... This is fast becoming one of my new favorite places for desserts. The place is warm and cozy and the staff friendly.
I live all the way in Bremerton (Kitsap County) and would be willing to make a special trip into the city of some frozen custard. -
Review from tinna h.
They say there are hundreds of flavors, but they only serve four at a time with chocolate and vanilla as the staples.
With a Groupon in hand, we ordered a Little Tahoma Sundae, which is essentially like Dirt and Worms, a small cup of Balsamic Raspberry Swirl, a large hot genmaicha, and a bottle of cream soda.
The custard itself is creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. You just want to savor each spoonful as it melts ever-so-slowly on your tongue.
Free wifi. Loose leaf teas. Would definitely come back again. It's the kind of place that you'd want to spend hours studying and getting refills on tea and dessert during your breaks.
Super friendly service. They didn't even know I had a Groupon at first and were offering samples of flavors and such. -

Went in here after stopping at teddy's tavern for some dessert. Very clean and the servers were friendly. I tried a sample of the peanut butter cookie dough custard and was turned off by the extreme sweetness. Granted I do not like sweets too much (occasional ice cream or dessert is okay), so I would say try this place for yourself. Bf and I split the carrot cake and found it too veggie? It had a lot of different stuff in the cake and was not the usual carrot cake fare I am use to-Love the cake place in Fremont!
Will not be back. -

It's like they say: smooth, creamy, and delicious.
My favorite of the ones I tried is the strawberry. The chocolate is a tad too rich--mini size would be more than enough for me. The chocolate chip cookie dough was unlike any cookie dough treat I've ever had. The "dough" tasted more like the actual crumbs of a cookie.
I didn't try the vanilla because my friends and I were taking enough time as it were with all the sampling. The guy at the counter was extremely nice and patient with us even with the long line of people behind us. They use this cute birdhouse for sampling spoons disposal, you know, instead of a small trash can on the counter.Listed in: the sweet stuff, weekend fun

Visited Peaks for the second time last week. Had the cookies and cream flavor - delish! The line was out the door, but worth the wait :)
Staff was super friendly. They have a cozy indoor seating area, a play area (with toys) for kids, and seating outside at little tables.
P.S. If you have an Entertainment Book, there is a coupon in there for Peaks. -

Yeah... omfg.
I'm pretty sure there may have actually been some ice cream/custard in the cup somewhere, but with the amount of brownie chunks, peanut butter, and other amazing things stuffed into their cute little compostable plastic cradles, I really don't think I even noticed. I ate the whole thing in like four minutes too. Oy vey.

I am a frozen custard snob. I grew up with Abbott's custard in the Rochester, NY area, and if you know what I'm talking about, then you KNOW what I'm talkin' about.
Peaks is delicious, and the staff is very friendly. I got a chocolate and vanilla combo, and both flavors were great. The chocolate was nice and intense, the way chocolate should be.
We used a groupon and only realized afterward that we'd forgotten cash for a tip after basically getting $13 of ice cream for free (apparently, Groupon keeps most of the up-front money you pay for a coupon when you buy it, if you're following the whole Posie's Cafe bru-ha-ha. But I digress.)
Regardless, the staff was incredibly helpful as we juggled ice cream cones and our kid. No, not literally.
I want to go back, and soon, with a big tip in hand. I recommend you do likewise. -

My first visit here was because I had a Groupon... I'll certainly be going back. Damn this place is delicious.
The place has a nice vibe (kinda looks like a large college dorm room) and the staff is quite friendly.
Try the Mt. Rainer sundae, you won't be disappointed. -

If you don't know what frozen custard is let me tell you. It's thicker than ice cream because it has more eggs, in fact most "ice cream" made in the old days would today be considered frozen custard.
That being said, custard can be kind of an acquired taste. I found it to be very thick and almost dry because it didn't have that melting cream texture that froyo & i.c. have.
Peaks also rotates flavors so they only ever have 4 flavors available. Vanilla & Chocolate (always) and two other varieties. When I went it was snickers cheesecake and oreos. So best to check their online calendar if you are picky about your frozen dessert flavors.
It wasn't what I expected...I liked it...but I'm still partial to frozen yogurt.Listed in: ICECREAM

They are thick and creamy and delicious. My first frozen custard experience and I love how refreshing it tastes.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. The frozen custard is AMAZING!!! They have a different flavor everyday so it never gets boring. Birthday Cake flavor is my favorite. I check their menu every month and mark my calendar for it...its THAT good.
Staff is very friendly. They always offer samples when I come in so you get to try before you buy anything.
Store is super cute. They have free wifi so you can sit and relax, jump on your computer and enjoy your custard.
Also try the cakes. The "cake and eat it too" so worth the extra calories. The chocolate is the best!!!
EDIT...made a suggestion on there Facebook page of a flavor I wanted and they added it. How cool is that. Thank you Peaks!!! -

This was my first frozen custard experience! The lady at the counter was super helpful, and I happened to go in on a day when they had a super chocolate-y flavor, so I was in love! It was so delicious, and I was really happy with how the lady behind the counter let me try different custards and explained about what a custard was and how it was made.
They're very environmentally conscious and you can tell they work hard to keep customers happy. I love all the toppings selections they have, too! Their homemade carmel was amazing! Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'm coming back for sure!
To use a credit card, you have to have a $5 minimum, which is fairly easy to achieve, especially if you add extra toppings.Listed in: Food!

I went here with my neighbor Greg and at first I was iffy on the idea (at the time I was like.. anything named Custard has to be gross.. I pictured a tofu textured type jello..) but he convinced me it was great, He was right, but the menu was a little hard to follow and was overwhelming, but they are FAST and SUPER friendly! and right up the street from my apartment =) and just so you know I loved it and it was nothing like I pictured =D Thank the heavens.

Incredibly friendly and flavorful, but without excessive choices. We love custard, so being able to find somewhere that does legit frozen custard was a great discovery. They do a small number of flavors, and they are often based on seasonal flavors. I always get the basic vanilla, which is brilliant and hits the spot. However, my partner also loves the chocolate, and we've tried the other flavors with much success. A definite treat for any day!

Salted caramel cashew whatever was delicious. (Vanilla custard, salted caramel syrup, cashews.) There are no issues with the custard, it is good custard. It is full of fat and very creamy. Everyone was very friendly. The interior is for children or other people who enjoy chlid-like mobiles. A little expensive but that's kind of expected.

It is just A-Ok. I have tried Old School Frozen Custard and still prefer that place than here. This place, the custard tastes more like ice cream to me and not like frozen custard. I also got a waffle bowl and it tasted okay, it was a little tasteless and I thought it wasn't fresh.. I really wanted to like this place, but I don't think I would return.
On the plus side, they do like to give you samples so don't be afraid to ask. I thought it was great that I was able to try a couple of flavors before settling onto one. -

A couple of us went out to Peaks for dessert. we got 2 pints, smooth butter pecan and caramel latte, suggested by the friendly worker. Even after a huge spaghetti dinner, we managed to finish the whole thing within 20 minutes...
the frozen custards were rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. the smooth butter pecan was velvety smooth, and savory. I enjoyed every single spoonful of it! I discovered a pleasant surprise, finding a layer of caramel at the bottom of the caramel latte pint.
I'm going back to try lime cheese cake! -

I give Peaks Frozen Custard three stars for a few reasons...
-The service was great, friendly staff
-I tried the vanilla and chocolate swirled frozen custard with homemade peanut butter bites...SO GOOD! The frozen custard is similar to ice cream but better it's much colder and creamier. They make it homeade each day which I'm sure is another reason why it's so tasty.
-A definite negative was their lunch selection. I tried the vegetarian "panini" with olive tapenade, hummus, spring mix and some other veggies. Sounds good right? Well the bread was incredibly thick and it wasn't warm inside at all, it was NOTHING close to a panini. If they want to make panini's they should be using much thinner slices of bread. The bread over took the sandwich although it had good flavors. Also they are premade "paninis" which was disappointing as well. They would do better by making them fresh and suiting everyones preferences for toppings. -

Delicious. As good as gelato, but creamier. Peaks has new flavors all the time (chocolate cake with bits of cake? creme brulee with caramel? Yes please!). I love that they're open late so I can stop by for dessert when I'm in the neighborhood. While I usually order to-go, they've got an inviting seating area with plush chairs and a fireplace.
5-stars in general, but -1 because they only have 4 flavors at a time (including vanilla & chocolate). Some look better than others. As someone else commented, they have an online calendar so you can look ahead. They also sell pints and quarts of previous flavors! -

I can honestly say that this is the best frozen custard I have ever had. And this was the only time I have ever had frozen custard.
It is different from ice cream the first thing I noticed is the texture is creamier and it is much sweeter.
The scoops were a bit small for what you are paying for. But considering this is a family run place and is not a chain I am ok with that. It also stops me from consuming way too much.
Love how they have a new flavor each day. If I lived closer I would be in trouble because it would be like Christmas waiting to open a present to see what is inside. -

I stumbled in there last night after dinner, which consisted of a half bottle of a 1938 scotch. It was tucked neatly next to this vegan friendly restaurant, which quite frankly, enraged me because I love meat. Speaking of scotch, I think I'll have a bottle while I write this.
My friend Steve Rogers had recommended me this place, saying that it reminded him of this place back in Brooklyn, but he's old so I didn't really care.
Let's get down to business, shall we?
The custard, oh the custard. I had the vanilla custard in a waffle bowl which was as smooth as Sarah (or Sally's, I forget) legs. Each bite was creamy and flavorful. When I'm in my office at New York, I could see myself sending my assistant out on my Quinjet to pick up a few quarts.
Ah, the scotch is settling in. Next time I come back here, I'll have to bring my friend Peter Par-..... I mean...... Spider-Man along. That guy just loves custard. It must've been something his uncle said to him. It went something like, "With great dairy, comes great custard," or something. Yeah, I think that's it.
I'd recommend Peak's to all. In fact, I should buy it. And then rename it to Stark's Frozen Custard. Sounds great, Tony! But I digress.
Friendly staff (sadly, they were all male at the time) and a humble place to collect your thoughts.
I give it 5 out of 5 Starks. Also I'm drunk. :)
