I have tried 4 other sushi restaurants in Pacific Beach and PB MIKA is my absolute favorite. My boyfriend and I try to come for their delicious sushi rolls at least once a week.

I agree with the other positive reviews. I think the restaurant would benefit if they had more room but it is a very intimate and casual setting and the staff at MIKA are always accomodating.

We really come for the food. The sushi is fantastic! It is fresh, flavorful and their "eel" sauce is the best! I recommend their spicy tuna rolls, they are usually on special for $4.50 a roll. Their dragon roll is great and definitely try their "shrimp boom".. it has a terrific kick.

Awesome place if you are looking for quality sushi!

I used to ride my bike here when I lived in PB and it was probably one of the place to go when it comes to sushi.. in PB anyway. It's a very small place, but that gives it more of an intimate setting. The sushi is good and the people are nice. What more can you ask for? right? right.

PLUS! It's fun to sit by the window seats, especially late at night on the weekends.. cause you can see all the drunks stumble on the sidewalk.. haha..

*snicker...

We came here because a friend of ours suggested it. We walked into this rather small and narrow place. We were served our waters right away. The menu was like any other sushi place. Maybe I'm a sushi snob, but I ordered something new for once and I was good, not great but good. The waitress was rather responsive and was really fast on service. This place has a lot of potential too. I guess you can say my heart is set on PB sushi.

Had the service been good and interior a tiny bit less depressing than a Russian train station's waiting room, I would give it 4 stars. But the service was bad (how do you feel when groups of people come after you and they all get served before you: well they should give it the 3 stars at least because they must feel special - while I felt ignored) and the interior was really repulsive. I don't expect HGTV interior job just something less "we don't care because the PB drunks just come here for sushi anyway not for the ambiance" feel.
Anyway, sushi was decent, udon was good, sesame chicken terrific. I will probably go back one more time to see if it's not a rule that the bigger your tatoo the faster they serve you

Totally decent sushi place, but atmoshphere wise, kind of the same as Ichiban. Although there is waiter service the whole time, and you don't have to order at the counter. The service was good, the sushi was good, but it was just so casual that i couldn't get too excited about it. There just kind of isn't an ambiance. But as Yelp names 3 stars "A-OK", as you can see, I do think it is A-OK. I just wouldn't go crazy over it. But I'll go back, esp with out of town company.

Went here on a Wednesday afternoon so I got to experience happy hour!
My friend and I split 3 rolls (yeaa i know a lot). I think they were the shrimp crunch roll, dragon roll, and something else with tempura soft shell crab. Pretty good, the shrimp crunch roll was amazing! Everyone there was really friendly and even gave our dog (who was chillin outside in the sun) water and some fried tempura bits :)

Great service, good sushi.

Happy hour is from 3-7PM and includes 30% off sushi rolls.

We had 4 rolls, edamame, and two hot teas for $32.

The waitress was super friendly and checked on us often.

If you go to a sushi bar and the guy working speaks English, it's not necessarily a bad sign. Take advantage of the situation and ask the guy what he would order. You already know you're probably not getting anything authentic, so go for delicious.

Mika is no where near authentic, but it's amazing. The sushi maestro made me some specialty roll he invented, I think he called it number 32 or something like that because it was the 32nd recipe he tried. He makes his own sauce and the whole nine. It's a far cry from my sushi experiences in Japan, but I'm in San Diego and this hits the spot.

I swing be here every so often after a couple beers at The Tap Room. It's the perfect combo for a weeknight.

I went to Mika Sushi on Christmas Eve after a long day of shopping. Do you know how sushi restaurants usually close between 3 - 5pm? Well, not this one! They were not only open for Christmas Eve but they still had their regular happy hour specials.

This is the second time I've been to Mika Sushi and I will definitely come back. It's really easy to miss this spot though because it's much smaller than all of the sushi joints in the area and most people only know about the place through word of mouth. They don't have a lot of web presence nor their own website which is a bummer.

Check them out!

This place is awesome. Tony is the head chef. Ask for the Tony Roll. It's the most expensive thing on the menu, but you won't regret it. Promise.

The owner is great and everyone is friendly. Go there and enjoy some REALLY good reasonably priced sushi.

I bring everyone who comes from out of town here.

This place is in major need of a renovation.  Also, I despise having to walk anywhere near a restaurant kitchen when using the bathroom.  I am all for dives, but when it comes to raw fish, I like my restaurants clean.  That's just me.

Ok, I got that out of my system.  I've been here twice.  The sushi is fresh, and the happy hour (30% off certain rolls, even on Friday!) is a great deal.

Mika Sushi has fantastic sushi and a great happy hour! The staff is very friendly. If you do not find what you want on the menu, you can ask the sushi chef to make you a specialty role, and he will most likely be happy to make you what you want. The restaurant is small, but they always make you feel comfortable.

I love it when the owner (I think she's the owner) takes a personal interest in you.  We (I went with 3 others) asked for some sake recommendations and she brought out her personal bottle which wasn't on the menu.  Let us taste it and recommended several others meanwhile.  We enjoyed the sake tour and conversation.  It's wonderful when you get attention, especially when it comes to alcohol!  =D

The meal also was wonderful as usual.  We usually ask for fish "recommendations" so we hardly go wrong.  Don't ask what's fresh because it can be a tough line to walk for the chef.

I heart this place. its small, cute, and quaint. we always sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs make the rolls. service is quick. rolls and beer is good during happy hour and try their special rolls! they are to die for. I always come outta Mika in food coma from being greedy with their yummy rolls :)

this is actually more a 4 star than a 3, but I'm giving it a 3 because I have a tendency to like authentic sushi bars more... oh and don't forget to get a sake bomb!

Went here on a Sunday evening for my first true sushi experience and the 30% off rolls.  It was great.  Every roll we tried was delicious.  The Bird Rock roll was my favorite, baked scallops in dynamite sauce on top of california roll.  When I'm back in PB, I will back to Mika's.

Diamond-in-the-rough of PB sushi spots.

Walk right past the line at Zen 5 and hit up Mika. Dont get scared because the place is empty. Its a complete hole in the wall so nobody knows about the place. Their loss.

Good prices. Great service every single time Im there. Excellent specialty rolls that you dont have to wait all night for. The Tony Roll might be my favorite roll anywhere. Don't come for the ultra-chic ambiance (because it doesn't exist)...come for the Tony Roll (or the Charger roll or the PB roll) and the penny sake special - Buy a large beer, get a small sake for a penny...anytime.

Im on the damn wall so you know its good. Just one suggestion...dont sit all the way towards the back.

Solid. Nice homey decor. Friendly staff.

Good sushi for about the right price. Good for small parties. They have an area in the back to accommodate about 1 large group at a time. So if somebody's already there, you'll have to wait.

The thing I really liked is that they have a good sized TV showing sports. You can watch it if you're bored.

A few of my friends and I designated this place our official birthday party venue a couple of years ago, and thus they treat us very well whenever we come in. (Our pictures are on the wall and everything.) The sushi is great, the chefs are cool and they offer an amazing happy hour.

I cannot tell you how many times the plan was to start at PB Mika sushi but we wound up getting wasted and closing the place down. The best example of this can be summed up with one of the greatest quotes I have ever heard: "Last night we got so drunk at sushi, me and the other girls woke up with tatoos!"

(They have Really good sake here.)

Well, this was an interesting dining experience, to say the least!    A late Saturday dinner in PB usually gets like that, no?

We planned to eat at PB Sushi, but with a 40+ min wait, we decided to try Mika.  It was about half full, which was pretty packed for this tiny restaurant!  We were seated immediately at the window ledge for a nice view of Dr. Love's.... a neon purple/pink/red adult specialty shop.  The glow was eminating in all directions.  I like people watching... actually, I LOVE people watching, but not this night.  We also got a nice view of the guy who MOONED us as we tried to enjoy our edamame, pork dumplings, sunset rolls and, uhh, I can't remember what else.  I lost my appetite after that. :(

Three stars; I can't blame Mika for PB's drunken idiots, but the food just didn't taste the same after "the incident".  Good thing the sake was cheap.  Go here for a PB Sushi alternative - just DON'T SIT BY THE WINDOW!

This place is definitely has the PB vibe of being "laid back, casual" small sushi place where when you walk in, you'll first see usually the bar taken. No heels, dresses needed, you'll feel right at home even in a sweatshirt. No worries about the beligerent tourists.
The sushi is good, not the best, but at least you know they have loyal customers from the bizzillion pictures on the wall.

Great fish, great service, good prices, great creativity.
There are so many different innovative rolls to chose from you cant go wrong and if you do actually need to order something different, they will let you make it up on the spot and make it to order.  It is an easy place to miss when rolling down garnet, but it will be your loss if you dont poke your head in and check it out.

Out of the millions of sushi places in PB this is by far my favorite.  Mika is a fun atmosphere with lively music.  The sushi is amazing and the prices are great.  My favorite items on the menu would have to definitely be the jalapeno cream cheese roll and the Las Vegas Roll.  When your there you will notice a large wall of pictures of all who love Mika, so make sure to say cheese and get your face on the wall.

You can't beat Mika as being the best reasonably priced sushi in town.  It's small, but lends itself to a great neighborhood feel.  Asako, the owner, is a most congenial and inviting hostess.  Excellent quality sushi and great specialty rolls.  Be sure to check out the chalkboards for great finds like stuffed jalapenos.  And let Tony, the sushi chef, pick out just the right one!  Great selection of sake drinks, be sure to try the Fuji apple sake...

This Japanese owned hole in the wall sushi joint really hits the spot. The interior is very narrow and cozy, service is great, and the sushi chefs very magnanimous with the cut of the fish. The price is pretty fair for PB, but be warned, there's an array of clubs nearby so all the drunk loons come in for sake bombs at night and ruin the dining experience for the rest of us.

One of my favorite sushi places. The have a big variety from everyday sushi to speciality with good prices. I've never had to wait for a table and the owners support the loud obnoxious type. In fact last time we were there we got our picture taken to be put on the "wall". The "wall" is the pictures of all there patrons who take sushi and saki bombs to the extreme. Check this place out if you want a fun night of sushi and drinking. And ask for the Japanese tequila, it will blow your mind.

It's quaint, but cute. It's cheap. The owner is nice. They have a really good seaweed salad. The spicy tuna is good. One time I tried going here on a Monday and I forgot they're closed on Mondays. I had to settle with overpriced and overrated Zen sushi, which sucked.

We should have left as soon as we sat at a back table.  There was a pungent smell in the air...eeeww. But we were taken by the 30% and 50% off rolls special.  We ordered spicy salmon roll, eel roll, a sans rice roll, and another roll with dynamite on top....can't recall the names....that's how good it was.  The fish was fishy (read:not fresh), the eel was tough, and the dynamite was so salty it was enough to give you hypertension.  Though the waitstaff was friendly and attentive.  It took about 20 minutes to get our first roll even though we 2 out of 4 people in the entire place....   Way too long for sushi.  Defnitely NOT worth the cheap prices.  I'd rather pay more to have good food.....and decrease my chances of food poisoning.

I really really enjoyed this place. I've been to a couple of places in PB for sushi and this one was the best. The food is good, and the owner lady is so nice. Its got a cozy feel about it, and whenever I was here, it wasn't crowded with the 'frat-pack', which ruins the dining experiences with their drunken shenanigans and grunting. Prices are decent and the sake is flowing. Conveniently located across from Dr. Loves in case your sushi endeavors leads to other things.

My other favorite Pacific Beach Sushi Bar, PB Mika is a small, cozy restaurant with delicious fish.  The salmon is always unbelievable and i definately recommend the Sunset Roll as well as their Fresh Water Eel.  Great atmosphere with pictures of the customers all over the walls and a tv at the end of the bar.  Very reasonably priced and the head sushi chef Tony is a great guy, although i can't understand half of what he says.  Free sake with a purchase of large beer keeps us coming back as well.  It's located across from Typhoon Saloon on Garnet, go slow or you'll miss it!
