Great Thursday night play groups! The staff here is very friendly and they know dogs. They gave a friend of mine some really good training tips for her dog! I am planning on being a regular at the playgroups---my dogs loved it!
Live near by this place and noticed that this business is not on Yelp. Decided to add this business to advertise local businesses around my area.
I'm a very picky person when it comes to anything dog-service-related and I think this place is a goldmine. The owners, Amy and Emma, are competent, friendly, caring, professional and excellent with a wide variety of dogs. We were able to get a solid taste of their business because we needed all four of the services they offered in a short period of time: obedience, socials, dog walking and dog-sitting.
Did I mention that I'm picky when it comes to dog-related services? We've had two big dogs (who both died in 2004) and just adopted our third family member - a little moppet by the name of Dusty. I've also been a volunteer at the SFACC and spent twelve days in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina caring for the displaced pets. It's rare to find dog-service-people who are great with both humans and dogs. Finding this place was a blessing, I have nothing but good things to say.
Note about the dog-sitting: it can feel hugely stressful to leave your pet behind but Dusty was having the time of her life for the week and a half that we were gone. She received oodles of personal attention, stimulation and love. They seem to tailor their dog-sitting to fit the needs of the dog as much as possible and will even (depending on temperament) include your dog in their daily activities. Can you imagine? The whole time I was gone, my dog was getting wined, dined and socialized by two professional trainers. I was honestly worried that Dusty wouldn't want me back.
I didn't really want to yelp their praises because I'd rather keep them all to myself, but I finally decided to be the better person...
This is a fantastic group of committed, highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals that provide exceptional services. In my case, they have gone to extensive lengths to help accommodate one of my dogs who has had a tough time adjusting to group walks and I've been very grateful to them for their hard work and flexibility. I also participated in the dog (well, human too) behavior training class which was excellent and actually alot of fun for me as well. I've dealt with many different dog walking services in other cities and give them the highest recommendation- as do the dogs who go nuts whenever they see Amy, Emma or any of the other wonderful staff members.
The only service I've participated in is their Thursday night puppy social. It's a good sized room and they have 2 trainers there during the hour. We get a lot of feedback on how our puppies play and they welcome general training questions also. I would give them 4 stars for lack of clients during the hour though. We've been to a few and it's only 3-5 dogs weekly so far (there was one night when my puppy had no one to play with because the other dogs were preoccupied with each other! *cry*). They do post on CL when they can but it's not enough advertisement!
FYI - SF Puppy Prep uses their space for training also.
Edit: 5/2008 - they have since ended their Thursday night puppy socials. Hopefully we'll be able to attend their small / medium dog socials soon!
So, maybe we're turning into like, the Brangelina of the dog world, but we just got another mutt of indeterminate origins from the Oakland SPCA. So, here we go again with the dog training courses (yep, more for the humans, not so much for the pooches.)
Our first class with Amy was highly informative. I learned lots about dog behavior and how dogs learn. I also learned that dog training takes a certain level of focus, concentration, and most importantly, physical agility and coordination on the human's part. The best part is the pride I feel in knowing that I am not only doing a good thing for my new little sweetie, but that we are both going to learn and practice mannerly and contentious behavior. Lord knows this world could use more of that!
So wish us luck in the future with our next little Pax, Shilo, Maddox and Zaharra of the fuzzy-faced variety (much cuter, in my humble opinion!)
Pawsitive Tails has reasonable rates, a very clean and professional facility, lots of easy neighborhood parking, and offers a variety of services from dog walking to doggy social hours and dog sitting. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of all of their services for my tail-waggin' brood.
