One week later (and at least 10 dog park visits), and my Baltese, Bean, still smells like coconuts.

Seriously, Pawsh is amazing. Bean is a rescue and the "Baltese" mix -- Boston Terrier/Maltese -- doesn't exactly have an established cut, but you'd never know it from his beautiful groom. His coat has never felt so soft! His hair is cut evenly and at the perfect length, even around his face, tail, and legs. He hasn't shed a hair since leaving Pawsh -- I no longer fear for my furniture. And I'm not kidding about the way he smells -- it's bliss!

Because we had such a great experience with his groom (we were referred to Pawsh by their Best of Boston review), I'm sure we'll be back for treats, accessories, and more.

Thanks for a great groom, Pawsh!

I love going to Pawsh anytime I go to Newbury St., actually, quite honestly most of the time I go to Newbury St just to go to Pawsh. I love all the little fun things they have, all ranging from leashes, treat and ridiculously cute outfits for dogs of all sizes.

The owners Mike and Nancy are the BEST! they really love the store and it shows every time they welcome anyone that walks in the door. I really love the fact that whenever I call and say my name (or my dog's name) they know who I am and they are always so very helpful with all my needs.

It is impossible to end the review without mentioning their amazing groomer Tiago!! I just love him, he does the best job when grooming my dog! Every time I tell my friends that I'm taking my dog to get groomed I always say I'm taking him to get styled because you can tell that aside from it sometimes just being a quick trim, Tiago always seems to make my dog tres fashionable!

There is no comparison between Pawsh and other pet stores in the area because they bring a great variety of cute and functional things (and grooming of course) for dogs along with awesome service.

How do I love Pawsh let me count the ways.

    1. Mike and Nancy the owners are the nicest, least pretentious, most accommodating, kindest pet boutique owners. I have a cuter than average dog and every time we we go into Pawsh we cause a ruckus which Mike and Nancy graciously tolerate.

    2. One day due to my lack of organization, on a Sunday night, I was having a dog food emergency. I called Pawsh to ask when they were closing. They were closing in 15 minutes but I knew it would take me longer to get there. Mike and Nancy waited for me and stayed 15 minutes past their closing time and gave (not sold) me some food samples to tide us over. Now I am not a frequent Pawsh customer because I do not live in the Back Bay. I don't spend an exorbitant amount of money at Pawsh. I say this because Mike and Nancy did not have any particular reason to have been this extra nice to me, they are just the NICEST people.

    3. Pawsh has really lovely events throughout the year. I can't always make to all of them but it's nice to know that they are often raising money for local rescues and shelters. At their annual Christmas photo fundraiser I got the cutest picture of my dog with Santa.

    4. They have the BEST grooming facility. As many of you who have read my other reviews know I need things to be clean and smell nice. The grooming facility at Pawsh is well ventilated and does not smell like ALL the other groomers I have ever been to. At Pawsh it smells like clean dogs. I bring my dog to have her nails clipped and ears cleaned. I am terrible at keeping up with her nails and they are often very long. Especially in winter when she doesn't do as much concrete walking. The groomer is also very nice and he is never judgmental about how long the nails are he just does a great job cutting them back.

    5. I love Balki, Mike and Nancy's delightful Boston Terrier. My dog loves him too.

I have been coming to Pawsh for years to have my cocker spaniel groomed, in fact she was featured in Boston magazine two years ago while being groomed there.  I started going to Pawsh bc my friend Suzanne had started grooming there and she was the only one Daisy would go to without coming home after and being weird. Until I found Suzanne, Daisy would come home from the groomer and sulk for days.  She didn't want to be around us and wasn't active. When Suzanne told me she wasn't going to groom anymore, I was devastated! Partly for myself but mostly for Daisy.  Suzanne assured me that Thiago would do a good job, but at first I was skeptical. I was worried that Daisy would become the sullen dog for days after grooming, but I tried him out anyway.  I am so glad I did!  He has groomed her a few times and everything was great.  The last time I picked her up she was my happy smiling and active dog AND her hair cut was perfect! I've never yelped before but I knew it was time to start, although I have a feeling this will only make it harder to squeeze in an appointment when I forget to make one until last minute.  You can't beat Pawsh Dog Boutique! They are friendly, fast and they do a great job every time!

You would be hard pressed to find a staff that is better at remembering every single dog's name!  Kudos to Mike and Nancy for embracing the neighborhood's doggy community, starting with the dog-friendly ice cream social soon after they opened the store, and continuing every holiday season with Halloween and Christmas photo shoots.  I never seem to make it to most of the doggy parties or sales or fundraisers at Pawsh that I hear about, and that is a compliment!

I don't have any feedback to offer on the grooming, but I can say that their selection of pet supplies is excellent.  I recently got a pinch-collar at Pawsh after being unable to get one at Fish & Bone, and their cookies are always a big hit, especially the blueberry ones!  I must also mention that, in the summer, they carry doggy ice cream in stock.  Also, one time I came in looking for a food bucket with a screw-top lid and Mike looked up online to let me know the nearest big pet store that carries it, since he didn't have any.  Thanks!

If you forced me to say something bad, I might mention that it can get very very warm and muggy upstairs if the groomer is hard at work downstairs.  Also, I could mention that they didn't have feline pill pockets one time I was looking for them, so I had to go to Audreys.  It is just a boutique, after all, so I won't be too nit picky.

A great place and you truly get the sense that Mike and Nancy have a real feel for the pulse of the Back Bay dog scene.

Pawsh always has what I need for both of my dogs! The owners are SO NICE and extremely knowledgeable about their products. They always ask me how my dogs are when I don't bring them in. When I was concerned about my dog not eating, they gave me multiple samples to try so we could try to figure out which food he liked best. I recommend Pawsh to everyone who has a dog and needs anything from pet food, toys, leashes, beds, grooming...anything!!

I loved this little store!  I lived a few blocks away for a year, but managed to go only a couple weeks before I moved.  Man I wish I had gone sooner.  The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and very sweet to my dog.  They also sell my favorite collars (Dublin Dog.)  They also had some great little duck treats for my dog.

My dog doesn't ever get groomed, but I would most definitely check this place out if he did.  He has to have special baths because of allergies so I do it at home.  But I'm thinking of taking an extended vacation and will probably check it out for when he needs baths then so my pet sitter won't have to deal with it.

This place was fantastic.  From the moment we walked in, it was nothing but great service (but not that in your face, I can't shop around kind).  I was asked what kind of dog I have and when I stumped the owner with, "an Australian Kelpie" he decided to pull out a book and look up my dog's breed.  While we were there he read all the fact on the dog and ask me about my dog.  I thought it was great!!  Really showed that he had an interest in his customer.  Can't wait to go back.

I love this place.  Being a little (ok, a lot) obsessed with my yorkie puppy, I get really excited about finding and trying out any and all "dog places" in Boston.  I saw a girl in my vet's office with a Pawsh bag and I asked her where it was, and she told me the location but that it was closed for renovations.  Then, this past weekend, I happened to be walking down Newbury Street and a girl randomly handed me a coupon for the place, so of course I checked it out.

They have a really great variety of toys, gourmet treats, accessories, beds, food, you name it.  And the couple that own it were extremely knowledgeable about the food they carried and just really nice in general.  Their Boston Terrier is unbelievably cute, too!

I'll definitely be going here for Lola's food, treat and toy needs in the future!

Super-friendly, adorable, big-dog-welcoming shop that makes it worth finding parking on Newbury St.

This place is fantastic, and the fantastic experience starts the minute you walk in the door.  (Actually, it starts out on the sidewalk - my dog is very happy when he realizes that I'm going to let him check out the place making the block smell so awesome.)

The next fantastic is the warm greeting from Balki, the Boston Terrier who owns the place.  I swear he meets us at the door every time, with this really cute, chill demeanor.  It's seriously like he's the host of a nice party.  You don't have to be Newbury St. elite to feel welcome here.  His humans, Mike & Nancy, are very nice and friendly.  They know what they're doing, they love dogs, and they run a great shop.

It's adorable inside, and very clean and uncluttered, yet they seem to have everything you could need, and then some (pocket-sized foldable water bowls, doggy breath mints).  They have hard-to-find items, like raw food, or those doggy galoshes that save your pet's paws from winter sidewalk salt, and treats that, according to my dog, are like crack.  This selection and the incredibly friendly owners make me wish I lived closer so that I could buy all my dog's stuff here.

It's nice to support a place like this, which is cleaner and friendlier than other pet stores - boutique or big brand.  So I go into town to have my skittish border collie's nails trimmed.  The groomer accomplishes this in about 60 seconds with Mike, the owner, hugging my dog to calm him.  Not even a whimper from my little wimp.  Fantastic!

If you love your pup, or need a present for someone who loves a pup (omg the gift bags!), check out Pawsh.  You're going to love something here.  Balki will make sure of it.

I brought my Yorkie Lola here for a grooming and they did an awesome job!  I can't really comment on the cutting portion since she didn't really get a cut, but they did trim her nails, her bikini line ; ), wash, blow dry & ears for $35.00!  Great deal!  She came out looking fresh as a daisy!

I also love love love the selections of clothing for doggies this store carries, needless to say...$150.00 later, Lola was a very happy pup and ready for winter!  The staff was awesome and made my Lola feel very comfortable, they even let her try on some coats!  I would highly recommend this place!

I just moved to the back bay and newly adopted a rescue dog. My boyfriend stumbled across this new boutique. I walked in the other day not having anything for my dog since I just moved.

The owners were so unbelievably helpful. He helped me order a bed and gave me samples of food to try. He actually gave me a bunch of samples to try so I could pick something my dog really liked.

He also sent me the tracking numbers and kept me in the loop about the dog bed that is on the way. This place is a boutique and comes across very high end, but if you're looking to support local business this is a very reasonable place to shop. They have every fancy dog thing you'd want, without the insane price or attitude.

Best of all you can tell that this couple really has a passion for what they do and it makes it that much more fun to shop there.

4.5 stars but I'll upgrade to a 5 to help with their ratings =)

I dock them half a star because I have tried to set up an appointment to get my Rambo a grooming appointment. I think I left at least 2 messages leaving my name and phone number but I never got a call back. No bueno. But I finally booked an appointment and it was a success! This was the third groomer I've tried and was definitely the best. The groomer was fantastic and even called me during the grooming session to confirm what I wanted. I don't think many groomers would take the time to do that. FANTASTIC.

The owners are very helpful and always willing to offer suggestions. I love the little treat selection they have by the register so I can make my own mix of treats.

The location is also super convenient because its minutes away from his vet so I always stop by for treat time after the vet =)

I just couldn't give them 5 stars..... I really wanted to, but I have a big breed dog and the selection of items for larger dogs is a little lacking here.
Other than not having a lot that will fit a dog over 60lbs, they have a very impressive selection of toys, collars, vests, food, and snacks. I went here when they first opened and had the little open house event. It was a good time and the staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable.
The upstairs section has a lot of fun stuff for your dog and a wide selection of leashes and collars. Downstairs there is a large selection of snacks, beds and other items. I believe there is a groomer down there as well, but I am not sure.
I had to take away 1 star because they don't have much for big dogs and there isn't really anything for cats either (they are arguably more pawsh than dogs, or at least that is what they want you to think)

Overall, a fun little place to go if you are in the Back Bay area and want to treat your pet.

Bottom Line: Super-friendly, customer-oriented, neighborhood dog store, not just for Paris-Hilton dogs, awesome dog store!!!

Pros:  my dog likes going here, great selection of organic and highly rated dog foods, prices as good as the big chain pet stores but in a neighborhood store run by the friendly owners Mike & Nancy, I hear great things about the groomer, great doggie treats, will even deliver heavy items to your home in the neighborhood

    Cons:  cannot think of any

Mike and Nancy are extremely friendly.  Pawsh is "pawsh" but also practical with decent food prices (they even do neighborhood deliveries for free I think).  The previous doggie boutique on Newbury St that went out of business 1 or 2 years ago failed because they only focused on pampered purse dogs and the sales staff were kids who had zero interest in relating to the dogs or dog owners.  Not here!  Plus, any walk down Comm Ave quickly confirms the large number of labs and retrievers in the neighborhood with owners who shop here.

I have not had my dog groomed here, but the groomed dogs look great and the other owners I know all rave about the great job they do!

Great store -- also, feels like a community with all of the fundraising events they do for the Boston Animal Rescue League. :)

I love Pawsh! They have super cute stuff for my dog and the people who work there are awesome. We got my dog a pair of boots that are awesome for walking around the city in the snow and salt etc. They are the only ones we have gotten that actually last and don't fall off or anything. The owners' dog is the cutest Boston terrier, Balkie, and we go in a lot just to look around and say hi. They are just so nice there!

They also hooked us up with a trainer (from WalkyWalk) who is awesome. We went to a free session with about 6 other people and they had food and drinks and were so helpful. It was actually really fun and we would have stayed longer if we didn't have plans.

Plus there is always a chance of running into Giselle (she goes there)! AND the owner told me that Cameron Diaz goes there when she is in Boston.

The only reason I don't give it a 5/5 is because of the prices, they are expensive.

I'm a dog trainer and I was first introduced to Mike and Nancy (and Balki) in February this year. Mike and Nancy were extremely helpful in connecting me with other dog lovers and enthusiasts and were quick to point me in the right direction.

Though Pawsh is a dog boutique I find it (from a trainers prospective) as efficient as a hardware store: Leather training leads, flat collars, training collars,  every harness imaginable, crates, deodorizers and cleaners, training treats, training toys, balls, clickers and so on.

I buy my training equipment from Pawsh and point everyone I work with in their direction because of their knowledge, competitive prices and most importantly because of their passion.

Pawsh is awesome. I just moved back to Boston at the beginning of the month, and this time with my 3 year old dog Louie I adopted 7 months ago. He's super shy around people, but I had read good things about Pawsh. On our first visit we bought a raincoat. Louie gets plenty of compliments on his blue coat...he looks so cute. Not to mention, his body stays dry which makes cleanup much easier. When we went back the second time for his grooming appointment, I had told the lady what I wanted, and she and Thiago delivered! My Louie looked adorable after and at a pretty reasonable price. Later in the day he started acting very strange and his discomfort was apparent. I guess his skin is sensitive, and he got razor burn near his you know what. I called and left a concerned message pretty late at night. Lo and behold Nancy calls me back within 15 minutes and offers to bring by some healing cream for the razor burn! At 11 pm. Her husband Mike applied the cream to Louie's irritated areas, and they left me with the rest of the cream. A+++ for customer service - I am so pleased. They are a really sweet couple, and they clearly run a good business. Did I mention it's a 5 minute walk from my apartment? Talk about convenience!

As long as I can drop by this shop, I will support them. I by my guy his treats from here, and recently purchase a harness for him.

The prices are very reasonable given that its in Back Bay. Great selection and service. I'd love to try them out for grooming services at some point.

They have a great selection of cookies, and know the ingredients for allergies, etc., adorable leashes, beds, carriers, etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but best of all, they carry shirts for the little guy (and not just girls) I don't know where else I would be able to find a "Napoleon Complex" shirt for Mr. Fabulous. This is one of my favorite dog stores in Boston...they have everything you need. Leads, great treats, food, advice, etc. Of course, the owner is amazingly knowledgable, and although they don't remember me from time to time, they do offer great sales advice and expertise. Given that they are in such a well-traveled location, i am not surprised that they are a little forgetful! Pawsh is a cute place right off of Newbury St.  Mike and Nancy are incredibly welcoming, and seem to remember the names of every dog and owner who comes in.  Pawsh has items for all dogs, and they will even try to special order items if you want something they don't have.  Pawsh also offers grooming on most days.  I highly recommend Pawsh to all dog owners in the area!

I'm so happy these guys are here - I hope they stay. I've been disappointed in the past to see doggie stores close down. They are friendly, have a great groomer, and have a nice selection of items. They special order food and deliver it - which is great (though I live so close I haven't needed to do that). Leo loves the chicken puffs that you can buy from the bins.

A cute pet boutique with two floors of fun treats, doggie clothing, leashes, harnesses, and household items like beds and bowls. They even have a grooming shop. I highly recommend Pawsh to any pet owner.

If Sophie (our Bullmastiff) was a kid, she would be trying to drag us to Chuck-me-Cheese every weekend.  Thank goodness she's not and would rather drag us (literally) to Pawsh.  She absolutely loves visiting  with the Balki and the other owners.  So do we.
Not to mention they deliver our hard-to-find food directly to our front door, so we no longer need to drive outside of the city to stock our dog pantry.
Pawsh is definitely Sophie's choice, but not in the Meryl Streep movie sense.

Love Pawsh!  I just had my dog groomed here and Susannah did an excellent job.  She is so patient, accommodating, and very efficient.  The boutique is also great.  The owners are on-site and very friendly.  They have a wide selection of dog toys, harnesses, food, treats, beds, and much more.  Everything is reasonably priced.  I am so happy Pawsh is here!

A few weeks ago, I was walking down Gloucester Street and noticed the sign for Pawsh.  At the time they were closed, and although I was disappointed that I couldn't go in, I was so excited to know there was finally a pet store in my neighborhood.   The next weekend I stopped in.  The owners are very friendly and I was greeted by their dog Balki.  They were still adding stock, but what they had was really cute, and a good variety of quality merchandise.  T-shirts with cute sayings (like "iPood"), sweaters, coats, toys, collars, leashes, designer beds, shampoo & dog spa items, as well as dog food and treats.  They didn't have a large variety of food at the time, but they asked me and others what brand of food we bought to get an idea of what they should stock -- and when I stopped in again this weekend, they were carrying my brand (Solid Gold).
I have a really cute chihuahua named Jade, and I've been looking for a new bed for her.  Pawsh has a selection of several different types.  I special ordered one, and they expected it to arrive in two weeks, but it ended coming in a bit early.  Mike (one of the owners) emailed me to confirm that he placed the order, then again when it arrived.  He even offered to deliver it if I couldn't make it in during store hours.  The bed is adorable and the cover zips off for easy machine washing.
I also bought an adorable sweater and an interactive toy.  I plan on going back often, and hope they are around for a long time.  Please check them out - you won't be disappointed.  Excellent quality.  Great customer service.  I'll never go to Petco/Petsmart again!

We have lived in many big cities all over the US and Pawsh is by far the best pet shop we have been to.  Mike and Nancy are really great... they know the name of every owner and dog that comes through the door.  They have gone out of their way to order products and food for our large breed dogs even if it wasn't part of their regular inventory.  We use their food delivery service so we don't have to lug the 40 lb bags of food through the city.  They host really cool clinics too!  We went to a free first aid seminar with a local vet that was fantastic, we learned a ton!  This is a great shop, go check it out if you haven't been there yet... you won't be disappointed!
