Category: Animal Shelters [Edit]
Neighborhood: JuniataMy partner and I just adopted a 4 year old akita from PACCA. The staff and volunteers were so nice and helpful-especially Mia and Carla. Mia helped us when we first walked in the door and then Carla spent 4 hours of her time helping us to adopt. The volunteers here go above and beyond...they truly care about the animals and want them to go to a safe home. If it weren't for two jobs + graduate school, I would volunteer here in a heartbeat.
Please adopt from PACCA!

Since Puppy Mills are for scumbags.....
I went to PAWS in N.E Philly, which is a funded division of PACCA (Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association) to save a shelter dog. And me and my girlfriends experience there was pretty much painless and easy.
We walked right into where the adoptable dogs were being kept, went down the rows to sweet talk um, picked out the ones we liked and found a guy to take um out of they're cages so we can see how they reacted to us. We found one that we liked the best (a 5 month old brindle pitbull mix) and one of the adoption agents took us into a socialization room and we goto play with the dog and see how it reacted in terms of food and toy aggression as well as how it reacted to cats. We ended up falling in love with it, and adopted it for $33. They neutered the dog the next day and now its ours and we're the happiest. From the time we walked in to the time it took to sign the papers probably took around 2 hours.
I'm giving this place four stars because the staff was awesome, i left out the 5th star because apparently the place is underfunded and undermanned and thats a shame.
So, if your looking into picking up a dog, there were plenty of amazing ones we had to pass up on.
