i eat a fantastic amount of yogurt. truly my insides must be absolutely teeming with delightfully beneficent colonies of bacteria. maybe it is why i rarely get sick - these little bacterium are said to boost the immune system. i lived in paris for years where there was always an entire aisle dedicated to yogurt in grocery stores - although i always bought the best at the markets, straight from the farmers. it was always thick and smooth, with the right bit of tang to it but not overwhelmingly so.

oh but alas! alack! - back in the states i struggled to find a yogurt i liked. they were either too watery or bizarrely gelatinous from stabilizers and thickeners - and they tended to be ridiculously tart to the point of interfering with anything i mixed in.

and then i found pavel's marvelous russian yogurts. the taste is really outstanding: perfect tang tempered to perfection by a creamy body, neither too thick nor too soupy. brilliant savored alone or with myriad mix-ins and toppings and additions.

every morning i mix pavel's organic russian yogurt with maple syrup and top with my homemade granola. a magnificent breakfast for champions - and underdogs - oh really just anyone at all.

After trying many, many brands, I think Pavel's yogurt is the greatest yogurt available in CA. It is unbelievably creamy (even the reduced fat and no fat versions), has no gelatin, and is extremely mild in its tartness. I hate sour/tart yogurts, and as a result I can't stand most yogurt brands available in stores.

The consistency is very close to that of Indian home-made dahi. Do yourself a big favor and get Pavel's now! I usually get it from Namaste Plaza or India Cash & Carry in Sunnyvale.

The yogurt from Pavel's is out of this world! The thick texture is unlike those commercial brands because they don't use guar gum or thickeners in the yogurt. What you get is the genuine stuff. There is also all the good and helpful bacteria to keep your stomach healthy. Comes in fat free, low fat and full milk. Most higher end or specialty shops carry Pavel's. In my area, Nob Hill Foods, The Milk Pail as well as Spice Valley Indian Grocery carries Pavel's yogurt.

I love Pavel's yogurt.  It's the closest thing you can get to homemade yogurt.  Other reviewers have it right -- perfect tang, perfect consistency.  The most amazing thing is that the nonfat version is just as satisfying and rich as the fattier versions.  What a feat! Pavel's you are yummy!
