I absolutely LOVE French macarons. LOVE THEM. I found Paulette Macarons on Yelp a couple of months ago and immediately e-mailed the website to my loving boyfriend. *hint hint* Unfortunately, he didn't get my hint. *tear* Or did he?
Fast forward to this past Saturday when we driving back home from shopping downtown and he decides we should make a stop in Hayes Valley to visit Paulette Macarons! YES!!!!! I was very nonchalant about it though. "Oh really? You want to make a stop at that macaron place? Oh, I don't even remember what it's called. No big deal." But inside, I was going, "Ooooh yes!! Paulette Macarons. It's called Paulette Macarons!!! Let's go get some macarons!!!!"
Anyway, we parked, walked over and, actually, nearly walked right past it. It was empty when we walked in, except for the one lady inside, who kept asking us if we were ready, but wasn't being overly helpful or friendly. There were just too many choices and I didn't know what to get. We ended up getting half a dozen for $10.50 (in the cute little box with a "pistachio" sticker). We picked 2 caramel pecans, 1 raspberry, 1 lemon, 1 chocolate, and 1 passion fruit. They were all really good! I have to say, the lemon was my least favorite, but they were all really good.
Luckily for me, no one else in my family has this love affair with French macarons that I do, so I never have to share. I'd love to share with A, but he has told me plenty of times that he doesn't really like them. Although, when I had him eat one of the caramel pecan ones, he said that he'd never eaten one before. How do you know if you like them if you've never eaten them?
4 super stars, not quite the 5 stars because I didn't feel very welcomed.
Cuteness and tiny does not associate any part of me. I'm sure many of you yelpers can strongly concur, per se. "Yeah, keep your comment(s) to yourself!"
With the transition to daylight-saving time, this bright light bakery, which specialize in elegant macarons and owned and operated by a French lady, is so bright that I needed to put on my Oakley's (sunglasses) to see what they have behind the elegant counter.
The friendly lady did offer me samples of the Coconut Macaron and Earl Grey flavors. The Coconut flavor wasn't too bad, but the Earl Grey wasn't my cup of tea. BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!
I did buy two macarons to welcome with my cup of coffee, from elsewhere and they also do sell coffee/espresso as well. I bought the Caribbean Chocolate flavor and the New Orlean Praline flavor for $1.60 each.
You know what these hand-made pastries reminds of?
These treats reminds me of the Oreo Cakes you buy at Walgreen's. A spongy outer-layer with a flavorful filling. Especially the Chocolate flavor, that has a rich chocolate taste. The Praline-flavor was creamy with a nutty flavor. (Not like me).
These macarons are not that big, but sweet and tasty. And can easily be devoured in a "one" bite. That's me, I don't know about the rest of you... maybe three or four? Like I care?
A cute place that carries sweet treats is perfect for any sweet-lovers like my family. But not a man with a lineman's appetite like myself.

Maybe I should've been a color specialist or a color consultant for ladies' apparel because people tell me that I have an eye for color coordination
Actually, it's just because I LOVE the vividness of bright reds, yellows, greens, oranges plus mixing and matching these colors creates mood
So when I strolled down to Hayes Valley...these bright circles in a variety of colors, caught my eye immediately
So cute and delectable, I walked in Paulette Macaroons to give these oreo shaped deserts a try
I wanted to try all of them but I've decided to give it a taste test for the chosen ones...five of them.. Lemon, Pistachio, Earl Grey, Violet Cassis, Chocolate and Caramel Pecan. All had the crunchy flavor outside(tasted like freeze dried fondant)and the gooey center inside.
I enjoyed ALL the flavors (made fresh every day per cashier guy) particularly Earl Grey and Violet Cassis. Let me point out that I'm NOT fond of flower flavored deserts just because they taste like soap & I won't gulp down lavender lotion to relieve my stress BUT the Violet Cassis was surprisingly delightful to eat and would recommend to pair it with chamomile or mint teas
These tiny little things are quite pricey...I bought 5 for $10 which makes each macaroon close to $2 each. Please savor each bite slowly for you won't have plenty of bites in one macaroon. It's a special occasion treat as opposed to the cookie or doughnut you can get every day.
Additionally, you can make them as favors for occasions such as weddings, bridal showers, etc

o my o my.. how is it that i had dessert TWICE AFTER brunch instead of going to dance class.. I blame a fuzz of consciousness from halloween's white wine and a glorious sunny sunday packed w/ loose assurance that all is right in the world. AND who knew, but macaroons are Gluten Free.. so its virtually unethical to not sample and report to the masses of patients i advise regularly on all things gluten related.. rrriiiggghhhttt.
We went seasonal-- the Praline.. and for the 2nd time that day, i nearly fell over from a mix of awe and appreciation.. To apply a phrase noted earlier in a poetic description of Sake down the street-- this was a serious "mouth-ride."
Anyone who thinks there's a better macaron to be had in SF (and especially down the street) has no idea what a real macaron is. These are the real thing.
I couldn't help stopping by - super inviting store with all the colorful rows of macarons in the window. Hah, sometimes I feel like a kid that's drawn to bright colors. Presented with a rainbow spread of options, it really took me a while to decide what I wanted to try. Luckily there were samples, which helped me try a 6-box first. I don't mean to embellish, but best macaraons I've had so far!! Flavorful, right amount of sweets, and they taste very fresh. There's quite a variety of flavors, too. I'm not even someone that's huge on sweets, and I love them!
I just tried Paulette for the first time today. The passion fruit macaron was delicious, light and fresh flavor with a melt in your mouth texture and alovely peach color. The Raspberyy had a much fuller flavor and was an intense pink color, and it was also melt in your mouth wonderful. There were 13 other flavors to choose from. In fact, I picked up the sweet wedding almond, earl grey and violet cassis for a friend. They were a fun spluge and definitely worth trying more of.
Delightfully colorful shop with delightfully colorful macarons that rival those of the infamous Laduree in Paris.
They have awesome little boxes which make these great for gifts. My favorites were the rose and pistachio!

SWEET! I reached the big 2-0-0 with a five star review!
Mmmmhmmm. I love me some sweets. How cute and cool could a macaron be? Each one is like a little colorful piece of heaven. Yes, yes, I know. They're pricey, note taken:
$1.60 for one
$19.00 for a box of 12
$36.00 for a box of 24
Honestly, I could eat 24 in one sitting. If I did, I would NOT pay $36.00. But as a gift? Sure. Those gift boxes are dang cute.
*My little fave so far is the pistachio.* Definitely heading back when I'm in the Hayes.

Little bites of perfection!!
I love Paulette's because they offer such an array of flavors from pistachio to hazelnut to cassis - everything is so delicious. I love the cream filling in their macaroons - not too much but not too little - just RIGHT!
They have adorable packaging too if you wanted to buy these as presents for your friends or gifts to give away at your parties. Very chic!
I have a confession to make. I absolutely adore French macarons. No, seriously, it's an affliction. So much so that on my recent trip to the Bay area, I insisted (as in, this was pretty much the only reason I crossed the bay) on visiting Paulette.
It was like I died and went to sweet, candy-colored heaven. Like the totally overwhelmed devotee I am, I then proceeded to buy a box of 24, just to be sure I could try one in every flavor... and, in case you couldn't guess, they were all splendid. No, I did not eat them all in one day, or even two. I froze about half so they wouldn't spoil and wouldn't you know it, they taste good frozen too. (I couldn't wait for them to thaw... like I said, addiction.)
Anyway, this place is a must-go if you're in the bay area. Hayes Valley is cute too if you decide to roam around there (check out Miette Confiserie, but go to Paulette first!).
Received a small gift box...and that was definitely a tease...
The tan one I had was really good (not sure what flavor it is)...the red one (rose) reminded me of Rose Milk lotion that my grandma used to use... ummm...hmmm...
I'm intrigued..and wanna try the other flavors... :)
French macaroons are quite the treat and Paulette comes through with a decent one that isn't half bad. The store front and decor pop with color just like the featured product. The presentation of the product is definitely pretty fancy schmancy, done with great detail, all the way down to the packaging.
The flavors were far and wide, ranging from fruit to coffee and chocolate. The macaroons were soft, with a ooey gooey, sweet interior (almost too sweet). When I made my stop here, I was desperate for a sugar rush, so the cookies hit the spot at the time. Unfortunately, the coffee that I ordered with the macaroons was served at room temperature and wasn't quite the complimentary beverage I was expecting. Nonetheless, the product was decent, the presentation was great, the service was good as well, so Paulette scores an A-OK with me.
Great place for macaroons! It's more for take-out and not so much a cafe to eat there. The macaroons are beautifully crafted and packaged nicely for presentation as a gift. The flavors are memorable and distinct. This is a fun cafe!
After hearing of Paulette Macarons from my Jesus (Oprah Winfrey), I spent the last 3 years flirting with ordering the cookies online. If it's good enough for Oprah, it's good enough for me. But I simply couldn't justify paying so much money to have Parisian Macarons shipped from Beverly Hills, which was their closest location.
So imagine my gleeful shock while driving though Hayes Valley when I spot the very new -and very eye-catching- Paulette Macarons. I didn't swerve and pull my car off the side of the road that instant, but it was pretty close.
The moment I walked inside, I noticed the beautiful colors and interesting flavors. A sweet-looking French lady was hovering over her selection and helping an indecisive couple. Once it was my turn, I took a modest selection (okay, I took every flavor) home with me. Sadly, what I was expecting: Parisian Perfection... simply didn't exist.
The best cookie was a pink almond macaroon, but surprisingly Miette makes much better ones with INSANELY good texture and flavor. And Miette is right down the street. Although they're modestly different, Paulette can't compete.
It appears this place has gotten a lot of great reviews since it opened (I went right after it opened), so it's possible that things have changed. Nevertheless, my heart belongs to Miette. I should send a box of those to Oprah and see what she thinks....

I went here today after my weekly Moishe's Pippic trip. The macaroons were delicious and pretty. My favorite one, by far, was the pistachio macaroon. It's filling was very tasty. I did not like the chocolate one so much. Earl Grey was interesting and would probably be good with tea of course. Rose flavored was very rosy, excellent, but not as good as the pistachio macaroon.
It's very pricey, i mean you buy 6 little cookie things for 10$ and end up eating them in less than an hour if you have willpower like me. It was my birthday, so it was a good treat, but I wouldn't make it a regular thing.
Rediscovered macarons while at Miette buying ginger cookies. Thought those were good until I went to Paulette this weekend. My bf begs to differ but some reasons I thought these were better:
1. the flavors are better developed and more intense
2. there are more flavors (and they have seasonal flavors)
3. the cakey parts are more crispy than buttered down (although, this could be a little fresher- it sucks that they are made in LA and shipped)
4. they give samples so you can try flavors you might not want to commit to buying
5. they remind me more of the macarons at La Dore in paris and the colors are SO cute
ok, so i got to try pistachio, coffee, marzipan, and rose. Marzipan was my favorite and pistachio in close second.
Next stop patisserie phillipe near my house!
I go weak in the knees for French macarons! I finally made my way over to Paulette to indulge. Fantastically fresh! So fresh they may be enjoyed over a few days - if they last that long.
I knocked off a star because of the flavor quality.
Chocolate - excellent, rich & complex. Not milk chocolate nor too sweet.
Vanilla - bland.
Passionfruit - good but a little too sweet - passionfruit should have a tiny bite.
Will try lemon & violet cassis on my next visit. Wish there were lavender & caramel.
I'd put Paulettes on the top of my guilty pleasure splurges list. 12 maccaroons for $20 is steep but totally worth it on the special occasion.
For what you get I'd definitely just go for the dozen so you can have basically all the flavors (they usually have 14 so you have to skip on 2) and then grab a little group of friends and begin munching away. Twelve cookie sandwiches is a bit much for 1 person to devour so sharing is the way to go. Of course though you want to have a teeny taste of each cookie so slip them in 4's or halfs! Great for get togethers also because they look great and are a good conversation starter.
The flavors of the macaroons are absolutely fantastic - even without the key card you can tell exactly what flavor you're eating, it's crazy in a totally delicious way.
I was walking by this place and one of my female friends dragged me in her. I place an emphasis that my female friends dragged me in here.
Come on, now. Do you really expect any man to walk into a place that specializes in selling gourmet macaroons?!?!?! That generally will only happen if ALL the female employees were wearing thongs and Victoria Secret Bras... And ONLY if that was the ONLY thing they were wearing!!!! lol
Yet, I was pleasantly surprised.
The macaroon I tasted was really good.
Not too sweet, but sweet enough to satisfy your craving.
The only downside is that this place falls into the usual "Hayes Valley" trap meaning that the macaroons aren't cheap. They're going to cost you about $1.60 for one... And that's a lot to pay for something so small, and quick to the stomach...
However, if Paulette ever decides to hire some swimsuit models in skimpy clothes to work for her, then I'll be more than happy to bring my homies to her shop to buy up all her macaroons! lol
I stopped into Paulette's because my friend, who is french, recommended Macarons from her shop. Now if a Frenchmen says this places is good for the Macarons... I'll take his word for it.
Paulette's stimulates the entire mind as soon as you step into the store. Let's talk about colors all around in a modern dessert shop. There are chairs out in front of the shop, inside the front of the shop and in the back of the shop. Very well designed for a small store.
All the Macarons are beautifully laid out behind a thin glass display. There are a variety of flavors and when I say "variety" I mean anything from Madagascar Vanilla to Violet. I had to go with a dozen so I could try each and every one of them. I barely go into the city so Hey, I had to splurge!
They were placed neatly within a long very well designed box and I paid $19.00 for everything. Personally I think this was a good buy considering it's a once in a while purchase.
Each and every Macaron had that nice little crunch then a feeling of a fluffy base and a moist middle. My favorite was the Rose, very light rose flavor resonates throughout the cookie and lingers in your mouth afterward. It's not like eating a flower at all, there is something else to it, but it's really nice.
So... check out Paulette's in Hayes Valley. You won't be disappointed and look out for me in 3 months! I will be back for another dozen :)
My SFBFF handed me a half dozen box of these delectable French macarons as I departed for the cross-country flight back to New York. I imagine they'd have been delicious regardless but given that my plane ended up being diverted to Allentown, PA before we could make it to New York, I am glad for the sustenance these cookies provided. I'm not sure how I'd have endured 11+ hours trapped inside a plane otherwise.
The caramel was definitely my favorite. Design hounds will love Paulette's packaging which has a beautiful form and is also fully functional (keeping safe these delicate cookies until you're ready to eat them!)

I loved every bit of these macaroons. Every. last. bit.
Got a coconut and pistachio flavored macaroon. Honestly, since I don't want to allow myself the calories to gorge myself on these things, I didn't mind spending the few dollars for two small bites of dessert. I'm not a big pistachio nut person -- but these were so so heavenly.
There's no denying Paulette's macarons look very pretty. Sadly, they look ten times better than they taste.
The texture of the cookies is too soft and not light and crispy enough. The fillings are far too dense and gummy. The flavours aren't bad, but the textures are all wrong.
If you're in the area, try picking up some from Miette, the candy shop down the street. Miette's aren't perfect either (good textures but not flavourful enough) but they're better than Paulette's.
Macarons are good, but dont strike me as authentic. The filling is flavorful but not very Parisian since they don't have the chewy thick filling.
My only gripe is that the customer service wasn't too friendly for me personally. I walked in the store and was ignored.

Oy, the craze over French macarons.
Cafe de colombie (Colombian coffee) : does not taste like coffee.
Framboise (raspberry) : recommended by the owner. too sweet.
Citron (lemon) : the best one. tart and refreshing.
Overall, the cookies were great. Soft and flavorful. But the ganaches were waaay too sweet for me. Plus at $1.60 each, I'm doubtful about my return.

I've never been to France, but I imagine it would be as lovely as walking into Paulette's on a nice spring day in Hayes Valley. It's a thoroughly wonderful experience to go to a specialty store that only caters to one product so that they spend all their time making it perfect. The French can be as snooty tooty as they want about their macrons because they are by far the best - but don't worry, they're actually really nice at Paulette's even if you are a rough and gruff American.
I eat my macrons with pinkies up! :o)
BTW - I sure hope they figure out the peach flavor macron. I've been waiting for ages for them.

I thought they were the same as macaroons. Boy was I wrong.
My japanese friend told me that macarons are very popular in Japan now. So I went one day and tried them out.
I'm never really much into sweets but I like the macarons at Paulettes's. The coconut is a sweet surprise and my favorite would probably be the earl grey.
$1 more if you want them in a box but it serves as a nice gift. They look simple individually but the different colors look great when packed into a box.
I'm sick and tired of over priced, super sweet, mediocre cup cakes. These macarons are a sweet delight and goes well with the fine teas they serve in the store too.

Stop three: Paulette Macarons
One for $1.60, a dozen for $19.
Prepare to devour anything you buy from this store within seconds.
The passion fruit macaron is superdupercuteanddelicious. Too bad they're so tiny.

Do you understand how painstaking it is to make an authentic macaron? Believe me it is an exact process. Not to be mistaken for American macaroons with coconut shlop that tastes like a bad Almond Joy. This shop is an exquisite little gem. The caramel macarons are to die for. A bit pricey for a little bite, but when you want to indulge...it's worth it to venture into the shop.
Pass by while going to lunch. I am obsessed with French Macarons. I love them all but I must say some places are better than others. So after lunch we decided to hit this place since something sweet is nice afterwards. I end up getting the box of 6 cuz a girl just can't have one cookie. With all the flavors and colors to choose from, a girl just can't pick one either. All the cookies tasted great. The cookie itself I thought it was alright, a bit to soft for me. The filling was wonderful. They taste just like the flavors I picked. One of them was Violet and I always wonder how the color purple would taste like? After that I found it taste like Blueberries. Its a cute little store and very simple. Will most likely come by again when I pass by.

Macaroon heaven! I thought I had found the best macaroons at Miette until I came across Paulette. The variety of flavors, the texture and most importantly the grenache definitely out beats Miette. Sorry Miette I still love you so...since you are right across the street from my office I can't neglect you! One thing I must complain about Paulette is the pricing...beware and don't be conned into the "buying more for a set price means a better deal". In most cases that is true but not at Paulette, the reg price of 1 macaroon is $1.60 but when I bought 6 it came out to be $1.75 each...how's that?! If it's because of the cute little box it comes in then I can do without it cause it just goes in the garbage once I finish indulging in those yummy macaroons!

Shatangi was so pleased to find a new source of macarons here in the city. The AWESOME website with great photos drew me in. The service was personable and friendly. The macarons however were not worth the price. I've had better at places that bake much a greater variety of pastries and felt a bit let down by the lack of depth of flavor. A great trendy snack for soccer moms (the new cupcakes) but foodies be warned. Not a bad treat, just not good enough to warrant a repeat visit.
Shatangi told you...

Stumbled upon this cute french macaroon place on a sunny day while browsing through noe valley. The people were very nice and the place is so cool. Tried green tea and a strawberry one and they were both SO delicious. I think they were $1.50 a pop, but definetely worth it. I've tried similar macaroons at boulangerie off of fillmore and although those were bigger, these tasted better.
They would be perfect for a afternoon ladies luncheon or afternoon tea session! Not an everyday snack, but more for a special occasion! YUM
Damn, damn good macarons.
I had no intention of stopping for macarons after a hefty brunch at Arlequin but it was fate: I needed to have macarons.
My absolutely favorite were the raspberry ones. My god they were good.
While I wasn't excited to spend $10 for a couple of macarons they were well worth it.
Better than any macarons I've ever had (including those at Boulange down the street).

As you may already know, I'm a macaron whore. I received Paulette's macarons as gifts and wanted to see the shop for myself.
I wanted to call the hoity-toity French lady who works there, Paulette. However, it was probably some marketing scheme to hire an authentic Frenchie to work there so that we'd feel like we were buying the real deal because if there is one thing that San Franciscans are willing to fork over dough for it is authenticity (if only she was more aloof I'd feel like I was in Laudree).
The boutique is quite modern and white, white, white. The dozens of macarons by comparision looked like perfect cheerful discs. Who can resist such cuteness?
With so many options, I only found a couple of flavors that I really enjoyed. The rest had me wondering, "what flavor is this again?" Not good when it costs 80 cents per bite.
The pistachio and vanilla flavors were such a disappointment; the former being indistinguishable and the latter for its cloying sweetness. My favorites were the Raspberry Rose and the Cassis Violet. However none came close to dethroning Miette's Rose Gerainium Macaron title as Queen of Macarons. I admit that the texture of Paulette's macarons are more consistent but the Miette's have a better flavor profile.
Paulette is proof that the macaroon is the new waffle which was the new cupcake.

Excellent service, beautiful packaging and great exotic flavors (esp. the earl grey tea macarons). However, since the macarons are not made on site but delivered from LA, the outer crust is actually a bit soggier compared to macarons you get at Bouchon or Patisserie Philippe, likely due to the extended refrigeration need during transport. With that said, I'll still come back for the earl grey ones.

I have a little free time right now before my new job starts, so I decided to go on a little macaron run. It's awesome that Paulette and Miette are just about a block away from one another, so it's the perfect way to satisfy the craving. In terms of display and variety, I would say that Paulette outshines Miette. Paulette has a wider array of interesting flavors and a nicer macarons-only display, whereas Miette (in Hayes Valley) has their macarons in the little jars on the front counter. The boxes come in a nice long box: with 2 possible colors: green or pink.
I bought 6 types of macarons: The Au Jasmin, Violet Cassis
Rose, Fruit de la Passion, Dragee (Sweet Wedding Almond), and
Vanille de Madagascar. While I was there, they had me sample a new flavor they were working on: Passion Fruit with a Chocolate Ganache. OMG! That was a fabulous combo. It wasn't too sweet, and the chocolate really paired with the passion fruit very well.
My favs from this batch that I bought? Rose, Dragee (the almond one), Jasmine Tea, and the Vanille de Madagascar. If you like standard vanilla cream puff from Beard Papas, you'll love the Madagascar Vanilla.
When I am craving macarons I will go back for more!
I just ate my last macaron that I bought yesterday and it was violet flavored. It had a slight fruity taste to it - but nonetheless still a great macaron.
A couple of my friends and I went here yesterday and each got the box that holds 6 macarons.. I can tell you now that one is not enough. These are the best macarons I've tasted, even the flourless ones I ate in NY. Its like the perfect consistency, hard outside, perfectly chewy, and the filling just adds the perfect amount of flavor to the specific macaron.
The six different flowers I had were pistachio, wedding almond, caramel pecan?, lavender, passion fruit, and the rose. My favorite was definitely the rose.. Its like a eating a flower!! DELICIOUS!!
The guy who works at this cute small shop was super friendly. He told us the most popular flavors, how to store our macarons (even tho they didn't last for more than 24 hours), and that it got really busy during the weekend so a lot of flavors were gone. He even told us that the guy who started up the shop is one of the best in France and that this is the 2nd shop they have in california!! He's super nice and asked if we liked the macarons.. They also rotate flavors around so if your a once n a while visitor, there will always be a new flavor around!!
A definite come back in my books. I plan on going back this weekend and I hope theres some new flavors I could try!!
I swear I saw the Baby Jesus when I tasted these macarons. He was smiling that gummy infant grin, and His halo looked suspiciously like the lightly golden coconut macaron I was guaffing down at the time I saw Him. He also had passion fruit macaron innards smeared all over his chubby little hands and face. He was beautiful.
Got a 6-pack of varying flavors to split with my hubs. We each had half a cookie so we could both try all the flavors that I grabbed. The greatest thing about these treats is that they all tasted exactly like the flavors that they reported to be (the schnozzberry tastes like a schnozzberry!), but without overpowering the delicate underpinnings of the sweet macaron itself. Perfect texture -- light crip on the outside, gooey/chewy inside. Brava.
