2 words here people.......HAPPY HOUR!!!!!!!!!!
Review for food only: Buttermilk fried chicken, shredded beef tacos, chicken skewers, chicken wings.....WOW......
Servers are attentive and fast....food came out quickly
Ambiance: Very elegant and modern....very comfortable and warm. Great place to be to eat and visit with friends. Great bar with plenty of room to sit. -
Review from Lori N.
The ambiance of this restaurant is exactly what I expect when I want to spend a nice night out with friends for dinner. Lighting is dim, decor is modern, service is good, only thing lacking was the food.
I guess it was my mistake for ordering the Asian Chicken Salad, but geez, for $15, I expected a much better salad! There was hardly any lettuce, just a ton of shredded cabbage & carrots topped with way too many crunchy sesame sticks. The dressing was too strong for my taste, though the peanut sauce was good. Overall, I really regret spending so much money on a mediocre salad. I should have gotten the hamburger, which was cheaper & came with a mound of delicious thin cut fries. That's the last time I order a salad at an upscale restaurant, when dining out, I guess I shouldn't consider calories!
Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals though: linguine with prawns, bbq pork ribs, hamburger, & NY steak were ordered by various members of our party. As you can see, the menu is your basic New American cuisine. All entrees range from $22-$35 or so. They also have a few set menu offerings for a set price that might be a good deal.
My experience this time was meh, but I'm definitely willing to return & give it another try! -

If I could this would be 3.5 stars
The service is very good.. but maybe it was just because I came during the middle of a week at an off hour.. nevertheless.. 4 stars for good service
Appetizers:
Calamari was nicely made and seasoned, and perfectly crispy. This was devoured quickly. We also ordered the spinach dip which was nothing special. I actually kind of regret buying the appetizers because they weren't worth the price.
Main Course:
The Braised Short rib came out way too salty, every bite was just salt bleh. However, the mashed potatoes were delicious and creamy (definitely butter in there). I did not care for their horseradish sauce because I am not a fan of it. We also ordered the New York French Dip with horseradish cream, au jus on a fresh baked roll.. this was very satisfactory.. except for the price we paid for it (forgot but more than $10).. For a sandwich this cheap to make and to over price it is not my kind of deal.
Dessert:
For dessert we ordered the raspberry creme brulee. This was very delicious, however lacking in the raspberry department in some areas of the creme brulee.
Overall, I feel like with the $96 I ended up paying for this meal, I would have rather gone somewhere else for the same quality of food. Just go here if you want to impress a date (since the ambiance is very nice), but if you are just going here to try the food.. don't bother... -

Paul Martin's is a great trendy upscale spot in Roseville to go for happy hour. The food is a little on the expensive side but the french dip is absolutely amazing and a great lunch choice. The bar gets really crowded during happy hr but they have a great selection of reasonably priced appetizers and drinks. Beware, the martinis are strong and they will sneak up on you...and quickly!! Don't be like me and have one...or two...too many and end up regretting it later in the evening!!

Review from Tammy S.
I imagine to most (omnivore) people, Paul Martin's is a great place to have a meal and I can see why: fresh, flavorful ingredients to make inventive and delicious dishes. The problem for me, being the vegetarian that I am is that there are exactly two things I can eat on the menu: mushroom soup and baby greens salad... nothing of real substance. The soup was delicious and the salad was, well, a salad. The blue cheese dressing was good - pretty heavy on the dill, but good nonetheless. I can't say enough that the mushroom soup was really good, but a meal it does not make. Would it be so hard to come up with a vegetarian entree?
The service was really good - everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere is really nice - pretty upscale yet inviting all at once.
Bottomline, I wouldn't likely come back here until they decide to add a vegetarian entree to their offerings. Everyone's doing it, it's not hard. Hopefully I can write an update to this review someday. -

I went to the restaurant for dinner on my birthday and was pretty disappointed on the wait time to get a table. I was told that a table would be available in about an hour from the time of my arrival. Two and a half hours later my fiance' and I shared a table with a couple we met while waiting. This couple who had a reservation waited over an hour as well, so we offered them a seat at our table. The only compensation we received for our extended wait was a cocktail apiece.
Our explanation for the wait is that they had a party of 50 come in. Now my question would be is... Were you not expecting this group and how could you not prepare for such a large impact on your staff. This wasn't like this restaurant had only been here a month or two.
If it were not for the excellent food and my birthday cheese cake this restaurant would have no doubt received a lower rating. The food was great & the ambiance was very nice; so this did make up some ground.
I will definitely give Paul Martins another chance to earn a five star rating in the future. -

Hubby and I went here for a date night. The atmosphere was very swanky, very big and airy.
The bar was amazing! I ordered the red pear martini which I loved but as I was drinking it I felt like I swallowed something hard! Pretty freaked out it may have been glass, I went to the bartender and asked her if anything had been broken recently and she said no. She asked me why I told her I thought something was in my drink that I had swallowed. I told her it wasnt a big deal as long as nothing had been broken. Well the next thing I knew she had come with a new drink. I didnt ask for it but I love that extra step as many people/places could care less unless you make them. Hubbys drink was perfect.
We got the best seat in the house, the middle booth seat. The server was very nice and our food was amazing!
We started with the Spinach Dip : A++++ soooo good!
Then we had for dinner:
Corn and Quinoa soup : B it was good but needed a tad more flavor
Fish Tacos : B made with salmon, it was good but not super great
Braised short ribs : B one big hunk of meat, it was good
Dessert
Banana Creme Pie : B- crust was not good but the banana creme was good.
hubby and I will be back for another date! -

PM is a top notch place to eat. We've always gone in for the dinner because it's got some great dishes, but we heard that they have a Sunday brunch. We checked out the brunch and were VERY happy. I recommend the bacon omelet and the potatoes were to die for!

Took my family there a few days ago for dinner. Chad was our waiter, he gave excellent service, very attentive. Great food and drinks. Fresh fish tacos. We got top notch service. Porter steak was amazing. The skirt steak was blend and tasteless. Need improvements in the banana pie, not enough filling and bananas and the was crust not flaky like a pie should be, the appearance of the pie was not appealing looks like it was done by an amateur. However, they have one of the best lemon drops in town! Love their happy hours o'doeuvres expect it's always crowed and a bit loud very difficult to find a table during happy hours.

Paul Martin's kicks ass! I love the food there. The seats are uncomfortable (unless you get a booth), but the wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. This place is always crowded with Happy Hour folks in the first hours of the evening. Personally, I wish the "desperate housewives" and "comb-over crew" would take it elsewhere as when the liquor flows at a discount; they are all damned annoying when I am trying to enjoy an exquisite meal at Paul Martin's. However, the Happy Hour appetizers are all very good, and it is hard to find a favorite on their short but fabulous menu. I will be back (but I will be there early to avoid the bar crowd).

So yeah, it was a bad idea to eat here before dress shopping, but I dont regret one morsel of it. I am absolutely unfamiliar with the Roseville area and found this restaurant on yelp. The for the most part the reviews are decent but I am surprised they are not better. I had a wonderful lunch and happy hour experience here with three friends. The food was delicious. ( I had wild mushroom soup and a yummy salad. Others had the prawns salad and fish tacos). Portions were plentiful. Wine choices and recommendations made by our server were spot on. Again, the service for happy hour and lunch was outstanding. The space itself is very large, romantic, rich and warm. Large lush curtains split the dinning area (and/or banquet room) from the lunch area. The bar is spacious in addition to having communal booths that are so tall I felt like a toddler in a high chair. The cocktails are no joke. And happy hour prices are shockingly cheap. They are stiff and only $4 for happy hour! The wings were delicious and crispy with a strong smoky flavor. The Mac and cheese was creamy and topped with crispy bread crumbs. My only gripe would be that the chicken skewers were not very memorable. Overall I found that this place exceeded my expectations and I definitely can envision some type of yelp event here!

A-OK quality food. I eat here 2-3 times per month.
Don't take the 3 stars the wrong way- there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
BUT- they lose one star for 1) Over-use of butter in everything. It's often the main flavor and 2) Never changing the menu.
Please change up the menu once in a while. I wonder how your purported "local, fresh, organicly sourced" menu would not change? -

This place has the best happy hour anywhere I've been to in the metro area--price, quality and service combined. We recently tried Sienna in El Dorado Hills (similar market and ambience) and it was no comparison to PMAB. If it's a little slow on a weekend, it's only because this place is so popular (and for good reason). The appetizers are tasty and NOT the deep-fried, artery-clogging "wings" you get at some "unhappy" hours...this place serves items that they serve in the restaurant and they are TASTY...this happy hour is the REAL DEAL. A minor criticism is that the otherwise excellent BBQ ribs are more salty than I would prefer...not quite as lean as Purple Place, but very tasty. While the restaurant is a little pricey, I would tend to splurge here once in a while since you can't help falling for this place. Since the overall value is great, I always make sure to give a GOOD TIP to says thanks! If a restaurant gives you a discount, the waiters and waitresses still need to eat themselves and the service here is respectable (based on 6-7 visits). I'll definitely be going back to this place. They have some interesting "prix fixe" deals on weeknights that I want to try.

It's ok but not much more. Noisy bar scene makes reasonable conversation impossible. I ordered the pork chop having had the same dish at Boulevard in SF a week ago. No comparison. The Boulevard version was melt in your mouth. This was overcooked despite request for medium rare. They are rapidly expanding to other sites. Good for revenue, but there is real difference between fine dining and a chain restaurant, this being the latter. Not a terrible chain, but a chain. If you want a place to knock down a few drinks, eat some sorta good, but unspectacular food, while wearing jeans, and checking out the scene, PM's is your place.

Okay, so this is one of my favs to eat. I went on Tuesday night for a business dinner, and ordered fish... Was terrible! The fish was dry and overcooked, and the carrots were nasty. We ordered a $36 appetizer (I forget the name of it, but was meats, cheeses and olives), and it was a RIP!
I should have stuck with what I know. The NY steak is always great, and the service excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but I like the atmosphere.
Time to branch out for some new find eats. -

Other than the outstanding service, my dining experience here wasn't memorable. The Pitman Family Farms "Brick" Chicken was a complete dud. There was nothing special about it. On the other hand, the rib eye steak was cooked to perfection but the Marinated Hangar Steak was too dry. To finish it off, the Raspberry Crème Brulee sounded fantastic but it was average at best. Cafe Rolle's Crème Brulee is even better than Paul Martin's and it is only $5 instead of $7.50.

Ok, I don't usually write updates, not because I'm lazy but because there is rarely something notable enough to warrant one. That being said, I have been kinnnda disappointed with P-Mart the last two times I have been in. After the first disappointment I wanted to try again before writing about it, because I still love this place (which is why I can still only stand to knock off one star!)
I ordered a newer item on the menu, the proscuitto wrapped prawns. They were sooo overcooked--literally desiccated. Plus, it came with these big chunks of patty pan squash which were pretty crunchy and nothing special... :-(
The next time, Chris and I went in together and he ordered those same prawns (even though I told him not to!). The last visit had not been a fluke--sooo dry! Also, we had ordered a few oysters for an app, and one of them was so tiny it didn't even look like an oyster...under some circumstances we may have said something, but it was late and we just didn't have the energy.
There are many things I still love about this place, but I worry that soon it will not be one of our favorite places to go, and we will have to go downtown more and more often (which is great, but sometimes you just don't want to get on the freeway to have dinner!) Chris doesn't even want to order the burger anymore, which used to be one of his favorite things (in addition to having improperly cooked burgers, the most recent time the patty had several bits of gristle in it). I hope this isn't a trend!1 Previous Review: Show all »

We came here on a Friday, with a reservation for 7:30 (made through Open Table via Yelp - convenient!). Even with this reservation, we still had to wait 30 min for our table and then another 10 mins b/f our server acknowledged our presence. To be fair, the place was absolutely packed! (Recession? What recession?) The food was delicious (especially the pork dish that my husband had), the wine was lovely, and we had a nice time. The ambiance is upscale, urban and on a less crowded night, might be romantic but the night we were there the noise level was high, and due to the crowds, not conducive to a romantic meal. Still, we enjoyed ourselves and would go back.

Just moved to Roseville.. reading yelp reviews and thought I would give it a try.
Day and Ambience: Monday night..The restaurant has great ambiance inside and out. Hostess seated us quickly at a hightop table outside. Cozy table for two.
Hostess became our server.. maybe it was a bonus since many yelp reviewers say servers here are "place negative adjective here."
Menu: I appreciate the menu mentioning organic meats and produce from local growers. Paul Martin's gets an A+ in this category.
I had: - Grilled Prosciutto White Prawns 6 grilled, lemon finished, roasted pilz family farms squash $22
-Roasted Tomato Soup cream finished, topped with fresh basil pesto 10
All was good. Meal was hot tasty and overall good.
Date had: Pitman Family Farms "Brick" Chicken free-range chicken, mashed potatoes, fresh herb jus $19. She mentioned that the mashed potatoes were cold. Everything else was good.
- Town Dock Calamari buttermilk battered with chili aioli & house cocktail sauce $12 . We both decided this was not that great.
We had 4 glasses of wine" suggested to use by our hostess/waitress -Murphy-Goode, 2007, Alexander Valley g. 10 b. 36. This was a good wine.. we liked it.
total bill: 110. plus tip.. total $125.
Lessons learned: Get the bottle of wine not 4 glasses. Do the Happy Hour first to try there food and drinks at a fair price.
I would go back for happy hour or if my date really really wanted to go.
For 125 I could have gone to 3 other yelp top rated hot spots ;)
Good luck -

I have a new found love for Paul Martin's. I have always liked this place but this weekend my "Like" turned into "Love".
The food here is consistently great and reasonably priced. My favs are the braised short ribs and the cedar plank salmon. The wine and cocktail list is one of the best I have seen in the area. I love the vibe inside; simple but elegant decor and a lively bar area.
I stopped by this Saturday for my first Paul Martin's happy hour and it was fantastic! $4 glasses of wine, cocktails and appetizers! I had the smoked salmon lettuce cups and the shredded pork street tacos, both were delish! My husband had the chicken wings, which came with roasted corn salsa - Amazing sauce! I tried the Shenandoah Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc and the Parducci Sustainable White, not only were both glasses of wine only $4 (can't beat that) but they were both great wines! We sat outside and enjoyed the live music and the people watching. The best part is that happy hour is everyday! -

I'm pretty disheartened to have to write this review because I've been to PM before and had good service and I don't think there are that many faults in the food I've had there. That being said, this is a one star review for a reason. The last time I was there, everything was going swimmingly up until after we ordered. We waited over 45 minutes for our food. My sister drank a whole large bottle of sparkling water, I had three refills on my drink, and my dad had two beers all in that time frame. When the food actually came out, it was warm on the top but entirely cold on the bottom so it had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. My dad was furious so he asked the waiter to speak to a manager who was a complete douche. His opening remarks were something to the effect of, "I see your food has finally arrived."--really just superb observational skills this guy must possess. I don't get why neither the waiter nor the management felt the need to address the wait situation at all before it was brought to their attention even though they had taken a mental note of it. Did they just think that they could get away with it or we just wouldn't notice? Anyways, as the conversation becomes more, shall we say, escalated, my dad says that we will not be returning to their place of business and the manager responds, "Well, that's okay if you guys don't want to come back." Sooo, you are admitting you don't want or care enough about my business? That's one hell of a strategy, bro.
I did feel bad for our waiter because he was actually very nice and tried to apologize for everything, but by that time my dad didn't want to hear it. They tried to comp my dad's meal (he who complainth gets the free meal, I suppose), but he just wanted to pay for it and get the hell out of dodge.
Frankly, the entire situation just baffled me and I was just embarrassed for PM. As someone who works in customer service and deals with irate/frustrated customers frequently I would have handled the situation completely differently. They sat a table of 9 long after us and they received their food very shortly after we got ours, so I just don't understand what the hold up was, especially since the food wasn't even hot. Also, the last time I was here was on a busy Saturday night and the food and service was great. This was a slow night and we tried to come in right before the busy dinner rush. This especially sucks since good food is so hard to find in Hoesville. :( -

Pleasantly surprised the second time around.
This was our second time visiting Paul Martin's. The first time we had to wait 15 minutes for our reservation, it was extremely crowded, extremely loud but the food was great.
This time we were seated promptly with no wait and only a quiet roar. The food was great.
The oysters are tasty...very small for $3 each... but tasty. The short ribs were delicious as well.
Service was prompt, friendly and helpful both times.
So take from this what you will but the food has been excellent both times. I guess at this point, I would say it is worth the wait either way. -

I only ate at PMAB because I got a gift card. Went on a Tuesday, didn't make a reservation, waited about 45 mins for a table. Agree the atmosphere was way too noisy so it was impossible to have a conversation. Waiters were nice but everything took FOREVER, waited about an hour after ordering for our food. Tofu out of the box is about as good: husband had the calamari app. it was more like butter flavored rubber, then prawns and pasta but it was not so good. I figured I would be safe with the French Dip but it too was lousy, au jus was salt water and the overcooked meat had no flavor, even the bread was like hard tack. The fries were good... Still have money on the gift card and was going to take the hubby and my father but we have a hard time looking forward to a long wait and a lousy dinner. Total waist of time and way too over priced for what you get.

I'd like us to take a moment and bow our heads. I'd like to pay respect to the delicious salmon I devoured here, topped with remarkable pieces of bacon.
Class. This place serves up a beautiful, romantic, unforgettable experience that one would not expect from a strip mall. One might also be offended/disgusted/remove a star from when a patron is removed by staff after throwing up all over the floor. But the staff here acted with such speed and professionalism, how could I be upset? Plus, it made for some hilarious jokes later.
My salmon was topped with shallots and bacon, which was placed on top of organic spinach with mushroom jus. Oh my, my...I am watering just now. It was tender, it was juicy, it was packed with orgasmic flavors and I loved every minute of it.
Our waiter was kind and provided excellent service. Our bartender provided great wine recommendations. I also was introduced to a new champagne, the Gloria Ferrer Brut, that I am quite fond of. Mmmmm.
I had a fantastic time here, and look forward to going back!Listed in: Hella Nor.Cal!

I really like this place... It has a distinct upscale feel, but is really reasonably priced. The staff is amazingly knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Our server, Ann (with no e), was great!!
The bar is top-rate, as is the decor and location.

I tend to come here with coworkers after work, so happy hour is my normal routine. The happy hour is pretty good with a few drinks and appetizers to choose from for $4. I always order the raspberry martini and the warm spinach salad (which is not on the happy hour menu).
However, the last time I came I decided to change up my routine and ordered the mushroom burger with fries. The mushroom burger was beyond excellent. The aioli, arugula, and bun all complimented the excellent flavor of the mushrooms. The fries were piled high and plenty tasty. I definitely have a new favorite. -

I came here for a friend's birthday and had a great experience. Our service was great, the food was good, and I really liked the atmosphere.
I ordered the 3 course meal and chose the butternut squash soup, the braised short ribs and mashed potatoes, and banana cream pie. The butternut squash soup was creamy and yummy. I loved the juiciness of the short ribs and the tenderness of the meat. I mean it was really falling off the bone tender. The mashed potatoes were really creamy. I probably would have preferred that they were not drowning in butter but they were tasty nonetheless. (Note: you might want to check the menu carefully if you're trying to be healthy=) The banana cream pie was good but not the best I've ever had. I did think the bananas tasted fresh.
Our server was pretty attentive and she was spot on about some of her recommendations. Overall, I had a positive experience here and think that I will definitely be back. I would like to come back and try the ribeye and the cedar planked salmon. -

We were there for the Sunday brunch. It's located near all the business buildings. I like the outdoor seating and the decor in the restaurant. Definitely a cool place to enjoy a glass of wine or dirty martini.
Besides they are generous with the alcohol, the flavor of their food is average. I haven't found a decent restaurant in Roseville yet. -

Food is good, nice atmosphere, most times good service. But once in a while you might get a waitress with PMS and impatience. I usually experience good attitudes here but once had a bad experience with service and a couple of my coworkers had a bad experience with a waitress who all too impatient to answer questions about the menu and would roll her eyes and sigh out loud if she had to get you ketchup when you asked for it. It could be a hit or miss with the service which is a big part of your experience in any restaurant..

I've been here twice. Once for dinner and another time for happy hour. First off, the place looks classy and elegant. They have a nice outdoor area/patio, live music some nights, nice bar, and good seating. I had the bistro hamburger the first time and my friend had the classic chile verde enchiladas. The hamburger was standard, but my friend's enchiladas was super flavorful and delicious. Our server was very friendly too and she really helped us choose a good wine. She made great suggestions and was extremely attentive.
I was even more impressed when I came for happy hour. I couldn't believe how packed this place was for happy hour. But hey it's 4 dollar appetizers and cocktails/wine, so go figure right? Usually during happy hour, it takes forever to get served. Not the case here. The bartenders were always asking us if we needed another drink or if we needed another appetizer. They were on it! The appetizers were really good! I highly recommend the beef street tacos. They were better than the ones at Tres Agaves! You also have to try maple chicken skewers. They flavored the meat really well on this one. Best part is their happy hour lasts til 7pm, while most places it's only til 6. My friends and I are definitely coming back more often. -

Drove way out here to verify the hype. We thought the food was just barely better than okay, not great by any means.
More than one staff member had issues with their attitude, though unsure why. I'm not needy, but when I do ask for something, please bring it without the attitude. Like it's my fault you forgot and I had to ask AGAIN. If you hate your job / life, you should quit BOTH instead of making others temporarily miserable. -

So far in all of my visits to the area I have not had better food or better service anywhere!
From their house infused vodka to their house smoked salmon and unusual Korean Hung steak to their amazing employees...this visit has scored 5 stars from me (and I don't give them out that often).

Review from Vince L.
This review is based purely on the taste and quality of the food because we had the one of the worst servers in a upscale restaurant ever.
Ordered a dozen oysters to start....very delicious, half were blue points and half were ...... something i forgot, for the price, i probably would never get these again but since the company paid for it..sure why the hell not.
Got the Cedar plank salmon for my entree....salmon was cooked just right, not over cooked and the color was great. What really made the dish was the bacon topping. It is true, bacon makes everything better, especially when its shredded bacon bits.
Now onto the service, our meat-head server seemed attentive at the beginning, but toward the end of the night, he just seemed very burnt out and out of it. Instead of asking for more water, he asked if we wanted more ice cream....uhh sure?? please fill my cup with more ice cream. Ok that was jsut funny and we definitely didn't care but what really pissed us off was that the bill took over 20 min to come. We started to look around and wondering where the hell he went since we didn't see him even walking around, and the next thing you know it...hes been chatting it up with his buddy for the past 30 min..auto tip deduction right there.
o well overall great food, bad night for service. -
