The vegetarian tamales at Patty Pan have stolen my heart.  They are amazingly delicious and I am so thrilled that they exist.

The people that work there are super nice and now that I'm thinking about it, I think we were undercharged for our meal...?

I knew the place would be tiny, but it is TINY!  Sitting outside on the bench is really nice though, especially with the way the weather has been recently.

I'm already itching to try the veggie quesadilla, as I've heard it's really good.  The veggies that come with the tamales are super tasty as well.

    I will come back here!!

I bought vegetarian tamales at the Belltown farmers market.

I found a pube in one.

    Enough said.

I've walked by here dozens of times and have never really paid attention to the tiny triangular brick building. But, on Saturday, something about it sparked my memory and I recalled a Yelp review that mentioned veggie tamales.

I walked in and was surprised at the cramped quarters. There are no tables, it's strictly a take-out joint. They were serving 2 different kinds of tamales that day, so I got 2 of each to go and made them at home. DELISH! I will be back because these were remarkably good.

A pack of 3 tamales is $6, or you can order one for around $3. You can either get them fresh to eat or in a refrigerated pack to make at home. They also serve quesadillas and maybe a couple other items.

Ok, honestly, every time I roll into Ballard (and I am not purely going to yoga at Shakti) I have a Pavlovian response to Patty Pan's.
If you don't know, Patty Pan's is this little itty bitty eatery with a yellow awning, tucked away in Ballard.
It is so satisfying and yet again, I vow to try something different than the basic Quesadilla piled with sautee'd greens.  Next time, I promise, it will be a tamale with a side of greens.

Patty Pan is simple, basic, small, and local.
I love the sauces you can add to your food, especially the deep red one that I think has adobo chile in it.

Anyhow, it is sort of hidden and unless you frequent the Ballard Sunday Market (which you should, it is one of the best in town!), then you have to take one block off the beaten path to get there.
Otherwise, catch them at the market on Sunday.
The line may be long, but they are zippy!

    Satisfies, everytime!

Delicious vegetarian tamales and grilled veggies+good salsa.  Very tiny with limited seating, they have 4 or 5 stools, the day I was there though the 2 people took up the whole space, so I ate in my car.  This did not take away from the yumminess of  this terrific lunch.

Patty Pan is certainly not a place you will be lounging in for an hour while you read your book after eating.  No, it's strictly a grab-and-go place.  So, if you're in the mood for that type of eatery, this won't really do it for you.  But if you're looking for delicious vegetarian fare with fresh ingredients, then you should be quite happy.  They also feed you at the U-District Farmer's Market, so that can be convenient.  It's a good place: Patty Pan focuses on the food and it shows.

The best grilled veggie quesadilla in town is at this fairly new vegetarian grill in Ballard. It's a tiny brick building that can hold 2 chummy people inside at a counter and more on the bench outside. It's a short menu, with quesadillas and tamales and a few other things, and there's usually a daily special but I keep going back for the quesadilla. They sell their homemade tomatilla salsa and I can literally eat it by itself by the bucket.

Well... the food is pretty tasty, but you don't really get any.
The first time I went here I had the seitan wrap or gyro (some seitan wrapped in a pita).  It was delicious but I could have eaten about 3 of them.  The second time I went I had the bean burger...good..but tasted like beans mushed with tomato sauce and some spices.
I just wasn't impressed at all.

great quickie meals!  don't expect a huge selection, but it's always fresh, seasonal and delicious.  this place deserves better reviews than it's getting.
