Two words: Bring cash!
Pat's is old school they don't take plastic of any kind.
This place reminds me of Caesar's in San Francisco not due to its cuisine but because you get the strange feeling you're being watched by the ghosts (steak-munching ghosts at that) of Rat Pack lounge singers.
Or something. Try it out if you like your steak with heavy atmosphere.
I have been to Pat's twice. Both times had excellent meals. The first time wait service was by an employee that worked there since he was 10 years old, he was 70 years old. He was fantastic. Second trip the waiter was annoying and told an off color joke to my co-workers of mixed company. They serve the sides family style and all were excellent. I split the enormous portions of battered fried pork chops with someone that had the fillet. The fillet was a better choice. Everyone of the group of 17 were happy. Good for groups if you book well in advance and get a private room.
It is true about no credit cards so heed the warnings.
I would never go back to Pat's! My husband's steak was overcooked and it was crowded and cramped inside. Because everything in there is so tight you feel like you can't relax. I have no idea why it's been open so long. I think I understand why they only take cash : because the waiter can cheat you at the end of the meal and make extra money. We left a 20% tip and the waiter shorted my husband $4 change when he brought back the rest of the money. Needless to say we didn't realize it til we were out in the car . We took my mother in law there as a treat and it wasn't a great dinner.
