So there's lots of reasons for me to give Molloys five stars...the cool bartenders, friendly waitstaff, good food, lots of tvs for watching sports, and overall fun atmosphere.  They've got good happy hour specials from 3-7pm as well.  Molloys is one reason why everytime I'm in Redondo visiting my friend, we head to Hermosa Pier.  But for god's sake, the ownership needs to give its bouncers the authority to block saber-tooth cougars from entering this establishment.  The cougars here are pretty aggressive and even after being a few irish car bombs deep, I still can't manage to look them in the face without shivering.

After a long and grueling Friday bumming on Manhattan Beach, we decided to head over to Hermosa to chill until our LA resident friend got off real work.  We walked down the main strip and were almost drawn into a place that claimed to be a Bears bar, but realized it was some sort of serious steakhouse and not quite the happy hour we were looking for.

We sat outside and were randomly sitting next to three transplants from Chicago.  We spent the time loudly discussing Chicago sports with them while the waitress almost gave us a minute by minute breakdown on when the happy hour specials were going to end.  We housed through nachos, pizza, cheese sticks and a few cold beverages.  Not the healthiest meal I have ever eaten, but I was on vacation and it was happy hour so I have two excuses.

I will never come here again! I celebrated my 21st birthday here because I was young and didn't know any better about bars. The sad thing is, I was having a great time here until a douchebag bouncer killed it for me.

I reserved a seating area in the back for me and about 20-30 people and we were having a blast for most of the evening. I couldn't tell you a thing about the service or price of drinks because everyone was buying me shots and cocktails left and right so I never had to go to the bar.

Admittedly, I was intoxicated for most of the evening (as I damn well should have been for my 21st). I remember the vibe was totally chill, the music was not really my cup of tea but it was okay, and the drinks were good. However, I started to feel a little sick so my friend took me out through the back to get some fresh air. The guard at the door was really nice and teasing me about being so drunk but said he couldn't let me in through the back and that I had to walk around front.

That was no problem at all. I'm a very fun, happy and cooperative drunk so we did what he said and walked around front. That's when the problems started. The douchebag idiot at the front door, who was a dick to me from the moment I first arrived, was hassling us and saying he wasn't going to let us back in. My friend calmly explained that I just needed some fresh air but the bouncer interrupted and started yelling at us and giving us an attitude for no reason whatsoever.

I could understand him not letting me in if was belligerent or unable to walk without help, but I was standing up on my own and totally didn't have an attitude. When my friend threatened to get a manager, the bouncer's attitude changed but by then, I was pissed off and left.

I had an awesome birthday regardless, but it's sad how one loser on a power trip could spoil the evening so quickly.

Meh, I've never really had fun when I come here.

During the day it's like this place almost doesn't exist, unless it's Labor day or another national day drinking holiday.

At night though, it just kinda turns into the Sharkeez spillovers and or non line waiters.

It's usually jammed with Hip Hop lovers (or at least it has been when I've gone) and it's a little to "Booty Shakin" for my taste.

The drinks? Good, but that's hard to screw up.

The food? Moderate, but burgers and wings are also hard to screw up.

I'll give you the Hermosa outsiders take...

Patrick Malloy's is undoubtedly a  cool spot - spacious, good "bar food", friendly staff, and good live music.  I have played here a few times with different groups so I can attest the management and staff was righteous, along with the sound guys.

On the other hand, for a Hermosa outsider, understand the entire Pier Scene is dominated by locals who:

1) There's an almost "frat boy" element NOT in that it's exclusive, rather it's a beer guzzling "bro" culture, good time crowd of local yokels, many of whom live within 2 blocks or so, and they all have that familiar vibe with each other.  Preps (rather than hippies) who love beach culture, want to walk around in sandals, but keep an Audi A4 Turbo in their garage.  Grown up, professionals, who kinda see themselves as beachgoing teens, y'know?

2) Embrace being "OC"-types, so expect a group of 5 girls in the same outfit - you won't find creative, funky, Silverlake style here...lol.  Then again, it never claimed to be Silverlake.

2) Age range that's all over the place - no one is too old OR young for the club here.  From 50 year old cougars to 21 year olds looking to get trashed for the first time.  Fun stuff!

3) Pretty people, who might have had ummm one or two or hmmm ten plastic surgery procedures

They don't sell it as "wine bar sophistication", but still, if you visit from Brentwood, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Echo Park, any of those ends of town, you might get a little culture shock.  It's a different taste of LA.  For an LA regular, if you want OC vibe, without the drive, adding in a clean bar with down home vibe, this is a cool place.

I have read things about cover charges, etc.  Don't remember those.  I might be remiss to pay $5 to get in, but I don't think I'd regret it.  I think this is one of the nicer places on the pier, and I have always enjoyed it, thus the 4 Star Rating.

I skate here from my house to hangout and drink with my  friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Laid back and friendly crowd, great drinks, and their chips and salsa isn't too bad either.

Stephan, the door dude, is awesome!  LOL

So come to Molloys and enjoy!

Bottomless mimosas under $10 how can you go wrong?

Well, they are not bottomless if you can't get them. Service was near the worst I've ever had. After a 90min (or more) breakfast break at Molloys everyone was only able to get 2 mimosas. I understand getting busy, but when you are running a promotion like bottomless mimosas you need to be prepared and adequately staffed.

The food is exactly what you expect to receive from a pub that serves b-fast. Greasy, hearty eggs, biscuits, pancakes and oatmeal dishes.

Winning note: this place is cheap and right off the strand!

Went on a Wednesday night and miraculously found parking on the street.  There was no cover, it was decently full, and it was also easy to find a table.  The DJ was playing some pretty good songs (you know, the type that make drunk girls squeal and that make guys yell, "Ohhh SNAP!".   e.g. Montell Williams 'This is How We Do It' = This is your jam!).  There were tons of guys in there too.

Overall a fun time.

I've been here once on a Friday night. A date took me here after dinner. He picked this place out of all the others because it had the shortest line. He also paid for our $5 cover fees and for all the drinks so I can't really tell you much in terms of prices, but they were good drinks.

It was my first time going to an actual bar and it was an interesting experience. The crowd's a lot older than what I'm used to. I already look like I'm sixteen so I felt uncomfortable getting looked up and down by guys who looked like they were in their thirties. Cute though, just older. I'd probably come back with a handful of girlfriends.

Sharkeez looked too loud and full for my taste... what can i say, I enjoy hearing myself think over loud bars. PM had really good appetizers, and their happy hour prices are hard to beat (only Yardhouse in Pasadena is better).

The service was in fact a wee bit slow, and I think I wouldn't mind getting my food within 25 minutes next time around. Regardless, I had a good time. The food itself was good (always go for the pizzas), but not great. It was typical American food.

Although I had a great time, i can't see myself giving more than 3 stars. Sorry PM... you guys should take a trip to Yardhouse one of these days.

I went with friends to Pat Molloy's for Sunday funday, and boy, did we have fun!  $3 mimosas on special til 3pm!  The front bouncer checking IDs helped us find a table even before we all made it through the door!  Our server was really cool and great about making sure we had everything we wanted and needed!  We ate to our heart's content, and the bill was way less than we thought it was going to be!  We'll definitely be back!

One of the hoppin spots on a weekend night, this place has a duel with Sharkeez next door to see who has the longer (or shorter) line. I just go to the place with the shorter line. It is the same regardless, a crowded bar with a 4 to 1 guy/girl ratio, so grinding, and a DJ spinning the latest top 40.

It can be a struggle to get to the bar, so once you're there, make it worthwhile and order yourself a few. These guys also have an outdoor area with a few tables but it can ge chilly at night since they're located on the pier right next ot the water.

Malloys is real. I love the people, the location, and the bartenders... Vi has always been sweet to my husband and I...I highly recommend finding her and giving her a great tip. Our service is fast, our orders are remembered, and we always have a great time. Not to mention the owner comes by and is very sweet. We love happy hour and the food is awesome no matter what time you arrive. If you love sports (like me) its awesome for Monday night football and fight nights :)

Go there on Monday nights and Eat/Drink for CHEAP for the WHOLE night.  PM's on Monday nights are GREAT if you want to go out.

Stay away from it on weekends as it transforms into BRO-FEST 2009 ... If you're looking for Bad DJ's playing Lady GaGa on repeat & weirdo dudes looking to get cheap feels on your girlfriend, then this place is for you!

I was visiting the la area and happen to be on the pier on a Saturday night. My 3 girlfriends and I saw Patrick molloys, paid our 5 dollar entrance fee and in we went.

The four of us each bought a round of drinks.
I went 1st- 4 shots of grey goose. The total was 28.  I thought "nice that's pretty cheap" now remember, I paid cash.

Next round- 4 shots of grey goose. The total was 52.00. Now remember, while there we are busy drinking and dancing so we didn't now compare our totals. This was paid by a credit card.

Next round. - 4 shots of grey goose. The total was 42.00. This again was paid with a credit card.

Last round. Random mixed drinks.

When we all got home we started to talk about how much we spent at molloys. I remembered very clearly I only paid 28 dollars. The 2 other girls still Had their receipts 52 and 42.
The most disappointing part? I called the very next day, today spoke to someone named Bobby or Danny (I was too upset to remember) and I found out the shots are 9.50 each but If u pay with a credit card, u have to pay taxes. But that still doesn't answer why one girl pad 52 and one paid 42. Rather then offer a refund or even an apology, I was told he couldn't just take my word for it, he would gladly give a refund if we brought the receipts down. I don't remember ever going to a busy bar on a Saturday night and being offered a receipt. I told him we only had the credit card receipts. He told me I needed an itemized receipt or nothing could be done. Very poor customer service. The bartenders name was on the receipts but he didn't care.

Disappointed

An awesome place to watch games.  There are tons of TVs and they are mounted in such a way that people's heads won't get in the way.  They charge a $5 cover charge for UFC fights, but if you get there like an hour early (no harm in starting to booze earlier) there's no cover.  At night they have a dj who plays dance music, with a tiny tiny dance area. If you are looking to get your dance on, probably go someplace else.

They have a large menu of typical bar food & a lot of sandwiches, and it's all pretty good.  The curly fries are awesome, the pizza is quite good (i think it's made pretty fresh), and the fried pickles are really great (yes, fact).  The drinks start out weak and get stronger as you order more (is my experience. or maybe i just get drunk faster as i have more. hmmm...). I really like their margaritas, they are on the salty side but in a delicious way.  The waiters & bartenders are all generally nice, and there is a small outdoor patio to enjoy your day in the sun.

Bottom less mimosas and bloody mary's are awesome... but... at first our visit was disappointing, their staff was slow and forgot our order and when our order finally came out we had no silverwear or plates to eat with...The friendly manager turned our experience around and made us enjoy the rest of our meal there.... their food is actually pretty good given the prices were so low...

Do NOT go here on Thursday nights. The bartenders and the bar backs were so rude and inconsiderate, it makes me want to toss my cookies. Not that I've eaten any...

I drink vodka tonics on a regular basis. I know what they taste like. I ordered said usual drink on a Thursday night at the bar and received it in a timely fashion. I took a couple of sips and it tasted off. My friend, who is a bartender, tasted it and also said that it was off. We told the bartender that it tasted wrong, so she very rudely dumped it out and poured another one. I tasted it and, again, it was wrong.

The tonic is out. This time another bartender / bar back whatever comes over being ridiculously nice with a touch of sarcasm. We order another one and say "I think the tonic is out, why don't you taste it."

I then watch this guy taste the tonic, pour another drink, and slide it over to me without a word while slinking off. I immediately tasted it to find that it was the same freaking thing.

At this point I was extremely irritated, as was my friend. He called over the bartender and exclaimed, "this drink is not right and this is the third time we've ordered one." With a horrible attitude and in the form of a preteen, she said "Maybe the tonics out?"

DING DING DING! I think we have a winner here, Pat. Tell her what she's won! Maybe a swift kick?

She then tastes the tonic, and nonchalantly says "Yep, it's out." As she walks away, my friend says, "You are incredibly rude and I can't believe how you are treating your customers. I would never treat anyone the way you've treated us tonight."

Anyway, he gets eighty-sixed, and tells the bouncer that he wants his money back, which is reasonable. We didn't drink anything.

The manager comes out and we tell the story as he is standing there with his gaping mouth and stoner eyes. He goes back in, gets us the THIRTEEN dollars for the two drinks, and we happily go to one of the many other bars on the pier with better service.

Here's a thought. Hire nice, bright people and your bar will go far.

Located smack in the middle of the pier, Patrick Molloys is a decked-out Irish pub that knows how to get you "buckled" (as the Irish say). The pub is swingin' at night, but all my South Bay girls flock to the booze house for breakfast, when unlimited Mimosas are offered for an hour. Breakfast is simple, easy on the wallet and hang-over friendly.

Breakfast too early for you? Mimosas remain $2 until 2 p.m.

I avoid big game days when the bar gets rowdy. Plus, parking is nearly always hectic but, once you find a spot, you can lounge in Hermosa all day at the beach.

I have one thing to say about this place:  HAPPY HOUR!
You can get a variety of things at a really reasonable price, and have a drink to boot!  The only thing is the tap beer is just not cold enough.  It would be so great if they just cranked down the temperature a bit, as by the time you get them, they are already on the increase.  It is fun, and upbeat, and there is usually a place to sit...unless it is on a weekend night.  This is just a bar, not a club.  Good for grabing a quick bite and enjoying a drink in the daytime.  It is just a pub, but for that title it is fine.  The patio outside is good for people watching on the plaza, and is great on a nice day.

Happy hour prices are definitely amazing at Patrick Molloy's. My friend and I can split an order of tacos and it's more than enough. However, this is not the place to order a mojito or margarita- they are not freshly made. Well drinks are great though, beer options are good, and it is definitely a good hot spot on the pier. Plenty of TVs and seating isn't as challenging to find as some other places.

4 stars, but I am giving it the benefit of the doubt because there were some semi shady boys here tonight that simply would not leave me and my friends alone no matter what we did!!! But maybe the crazies come out on thursdays...oh wait...we went out on a thursday.....hmmmmm...but honestly I hear on weekends this place is the place to be and it is full of hot and beautiful people!!

Anyway back to business. This place, we had to wait in line for (and I have NO idea why since inside the entire table side was EMPTY!!!). yes the bar area was crowded and the dance floor was too, but there was still half of the space that could have been filled with people!

This place is like a giant pub, only with a dj and not irish music. There was definitely some booty shaking here and one particularly awkward dancing man heh (rupa, cindy, and narsis, you know who i mean!!) But the music was really good even though at times the DJ went through music OCD and couldn't make up his mind and played about 5 seconds of a song before he switched it again which was funny at first but frustrating later.

Overall the people were nice and friendly and laid back except for the weirdos we met on the dance floor, so watch out there!!! But the drinks are cheap---we got a stella and a blueberry stoli for $11!!!! That alone makes me excited to go out in hermosa again if anything!!!!

If your on Mexico time like I am, then I suggest that you plan on getting to this place early. This was my first time going to Molloys and only ended up here because the line to Sharkee's & Sangria's was insane ! At least the cover charge was only $5 when the others had a $10 charge. Don't get me wrong, this place is jumping with fun but that's the thing. Its so crowded there....maybe cause everyone else got sick of standing in line else where that they ended up at Molloys just like I did. But geeze! They seem to always hit their capacity of the place. You have to elbow your way thru the bar or hope to god your blessed with boobs and have a guy let you go up front. The dance floor is packed with people who swear they have moves! But if you have plenty of shots..you can blend right in.

Terrible. Thats all I have to say. We went here with a large group before the manhattan six-man, and the service and food were terrible. first of all, our friends didnt show up on time, and the kitchen closes down between serving breakfast and lunch for a half hour, so we had to wait before we could even order anything. then it was a good 45 miinutes after we ordered (only three of us even ordered food so its not like we had a ton or orders to make) that we got out food. my bread on my sandwich was soggy and gross and fall apart, making it impossible to eat. the fries were mushy too. our waitres absolutely sucked, no one got any refills and there was a good 20 minute period we didnt even see her. and we were all ordering alcohol too!
do go here, just dont do it. go to Sharkeez next door or pretty much anywhere else on the pier besides Patrick Molloys.

CHEAP! We went on a Tuesday...

Myself and 6 other folks went there to get some happy hour specials and found this out:

- Happy hour beers are cheap (I think like 2 bucks for coors lights)
- Tacos are $2 (that's like $1) a taco
- Hamburger and fries were $2 or $3

Bottom line... all of us had food and beer and our bill came to less than $75! That's a deal!!!

Since I first turned 21 I had frequented this bar, mainly on Thur nights where it used to be $2 drinks but then was raised to $3 drinks and $2 beers. There was a super hot bartender who was very nice to look at who my friends and I referred to as McDreamy hahaha. Anyway, in my opinion Thur nights has the best music, Fri nights music is a little weird. I know Monday night is industry night so drinks are cheap cheap but I've only been like once because I usually work early the next day.

The crowd can get a little ghetto on Thur nights but for the most part it's fun. If you wait till about after 9:30pm-ish Thur-Sat nights, there will more than likely be a line to get in and after 10pm there is a cover charge as well of I believe $5.

I don't frequent here often at all anymore (or much anywhere on the pier) but it used to be fun.

Do they still have the $5 bottomless cup happy hour?

Fun location and people, there are swankier bars on either side - Patrick Molloy's is so much better.

The good thing about Molloy's is the happy hour specials.  You can eat and drink here very cheaply during that time.  The specials beat any other place in Hermosa that I know of.  The bad things are several:  poor service, collegiate atmosphere, long lines on the weekends.  The beer selection is average; I haven't tried other drinks.

The service is slow during happy hour to the point that you should order two drinks when the waitress comes by.  I've experienced this several times.  I've also watched three or four female bartenders chat like schoolgirls at one end of the bar while I wait 10 minutes to order a drink.  (Eventually, lone guy bartender who's been slogging drink after drink to the waitresses comes over to serve me and my friend).  You definitely get the feeling that the waitstaff thinks they're special or something.

The general atmosphere, when it's crowded, especially on the weekends, is that of the frat-boy bar at college (you know yours had one, if not several).  Wasn't my speed then, isn't now.  Nothing against fraternities, it's just that by now, I've outgrown them and, in any case, their highlights generally aren't in "their" bar, it's in their house parties.  But if that's what you're into, go for it.  (I should say that this critique applies not only to Molloy's but to many places in Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches).

When the pier is crowded, there's a pretty long line to get in this place.  I don't like lines, especially to go to an average bar.  Not Molloy's fault for being popular, but a line is still a negative.

Met up with some old friends here for happy hour.  2 for 1 drinks, love it.

Happy Hour Food - cheap but nothing special

I should give it an extra star because even though I was carded at the door, I was carded two more times by various wait staff.... Ohhhhh How I love thee!

Good bar to just hangout. Everyday they have some type of drink deal. Sundays are good if you like football and want to hangout w/ the boys, watch the game and drink. Sunday Fundays! It's a lot of fun. There are tons of seating and TVs to watch. On sundays it's loud and crazy. On the wkends whether night or day there is a good crowd going.

I really liked the huge mimosa pitchers that me and my friends got. They are super cheap and huge. I would only suggest coming here to drink and lay back. However, we did eat here on sunday and the food isn't half bad. Its the typical bar type of food. Nothing fancy, just simple.

What a total crapshow for New Year's Eve.

$30 cover (which really isn't bad),but they unfortunately oversold the place, causing the fire marshall & police to show up.

Woops.

Still, that wouldn't have been that bad, except for the horrendous manner in which their security handled the situation.  If you were seated on the patio, they wouldn't let you inside to get a drink or use the restroom.  That's right.  The security at the door between the patio & the main room MADE YOU LEAVE THE BAR ENTIRELY if you wanted to go out to the patio.  I saw them enfore this several times when people who paid $30 cover went inside to pee, then tried to rejoin their outside group, only to be escorted all the way outside.  Horrible.

I tried asking one of them what the deal was in the nicest way possible.

"Could I get inside to get a drink?"
"You can, but you'd have to stay inside"
"So I can't buy a drink and come back to sit out here with my friends?"
"No, you'd have to stay inside."
"Why?"
"Because"
"Because why?"
"Because I said so."
"So, I paid a $30 cover to not be able to get drinks with my friends?"
"Not my problem."

Nice.

This is a great place, which has undergone a lot of transformation since it first opened.  It started out as a pretty basic restaurant with a bar, now has the flat panels built into the decor of the establishment.

The crowd changes with the time of day, etc.  But it is Hermosa after all ...
