After taking the cheap route and hitting up china town for thermal reconditioning which ruined my hair, I decided to do tons of research before letting anyone touch my hair again.

I have a few highlights in my curly hair which I straightened every single day. I couldn't take it anymore... I was spending way to much time on my damaged hair.

I made a consult appointment with Candace and finally felt at ease. She told me exactly what to expect with Japanese Straightening and walked me through the whole process.

A few weeks later I had the best all day hair straightening experience ever! Patrick and Candace kept me so occupied the whole time that the experience was painless and time flew by. Best of all, my hair is straight with zero damage!

A few months later and my hair is still straight and SUPER EASY to style and go. I get out of the shower, get the wet out, style it, and 20 minutes later I'm done! No more 45 mins - 1 hour straightening sessions.

I will definitely go back in a few months for a retouch. Don't think twice, go see Candace and Patrick for a consult! Spend the extra money and have it done right the 1st time!!

Jennifer: Simply the BEST BRAZILIAN I have ever had in my life...and I HATE having Brazilians.

There is no such thing as a "painless Brazilian" - but this one was certainly the most pleasant Brazilian experience I have ever had.  I have experimented with the best of the best in San Francisco including: Marilyn Jaeger, Loni Anderson etc. and they are all very good and very professional - mark my words!

However... what made Jennifer at Patrick Evan stand out (and why she will be my permanent esthetician from now on) was how thorough she was (painstakingly so) and how she took the time to EXPLAIN EVERYTHING that she did - BEFORE she did it.  Not just: "Rip! Rip! Rip!... See you later."

That transformed this experience.

Normally, I am very sensitive to the temperature of the wax - which is slightly unusual and not much can be done b/c the temperature has to remain at a minimum to be effective.  To counter this problem, all of the estheticians that I have been to have tried to simply talk to me non stop during my procedure, mostly to try to distract me from the discomfort and rush through it so that it doesn't have to last any longer than necessary. (Bless them - I know their hearts are in a good place.)  The result?  More skin says "goodbye" to me through a slightly more rushed process and I end up with red skin and missed spots in more difficult areas.  (I know, I know - it's partly my own fault.)

But Jennifer slowed down - and listened.

She listened to my problems with waxing and discomforts and did everything that she could to accommodate.  This took a little bit longer but she still had me out of there in 20 minutes tops!  Brilliant.  The process was so much better since she gave me a few breaks to recover and because she was so thorough, she didn't have to go over the same area twice.  Loved it!

Thank you, Jennifer.  You can bet that I have found my new home for my Brazilians here in San Francisco!

Brilliant!

I can't bring myself to give this salon 1 star, so two will reflect my experiences. First, I found Patrick Evan to be pretentious, arrogant, and sorely lacking in friendliness and interpersonal skills. Is he great with hair? You betcha. Is he one of the experts in thermal reconditioning? You betcha. But is getting my hair did by a warm and kind stylist who values my opinion more important that skills? Yep. One Yelper on here (don't know if her review is still on here) said that Patrick was flatironing her hair and accidentally burned her with it and he didn't care or notice.

I saw Vania twice for hair color and I didn't think she was any better than other stylists I've been to. When I had called to make an appointment, the receptionist gushed "Oh, I'll schedule you with Vania, she's great with color." I didn't realize that pouring hair dye in a bowl and slathering it on my head made someone "great with color." I also felt Vania was too quiet--like she didn't care to make conversation or chat. She just answered my questions with one word answers. But that's okay, she's allowed to not want to talk--it just comes across as indifference and abruptness.

Prices at this salon are reasonable and the building is super cute. But all these 5 star reviews are a joke....I think many Yelpers have either low standards or can't see through the bullshit.

Vania, Vania, Vania. You've worked your magic yet again! I decided to go back to my roots this summer and asked Vania to hook me up with a beautiful dark, rich and vibrant chestnut color. The moment she spun me around to check out my hair the mirror my mouth dropped and I couldn't stop running my fingers through my shiny healthy beautiful hair!

Healthy flowing locks? Check!
Radiant new color? Check!
Making heads turn as I left the salon? CHECK!

Vania is the most awesomest (that's a word, for today) most talented and most patient (I have a lot of freakin hair!) stylist I've ever been to. Book an appointment with her today! (you'll either fall in love with your hair all over again or for the first time!)

The place itself is very modern and well located in between Union Sq. and downtown. Everyone there is super friendly and extremely talented. I feel so fortunate to have found this place when I did, I hear they book out pretty far in advance!

I went here for the Yelp promotion a while back in June to get a half-off haircut. Tania was fantastic: thorough, great conversation. I moved to Santa Barbara, so sadly, I won't be coming back.

Although she was excellent, I don't think I would be coming back anyway, since I would have had to pay more for the regular price at $80 or so. I can't justify that much money to cut my hair since I don't ask for anything fancy and it's not hard to cut.

I went here during the Hawt on Yelp Deals Week for a Signature Facial with Jennifer Clark.  As soon as I walked up to meet Jennifer, she greeted me with so much warmth!  I have to admit that I have a crush on her because she is pretty hot sauce!

I haven't had a facial for about 6 months before I went to see Jennifer and throughout the entire time, I felt so relaxed and comfortable.  The music that she played, Amel Larrieux, was perfect for the setting.  She was extremely informative and helpful as she was working on my face.  She gave me great advice in regards to what to do in order to maintain my skin.

The facial also came with a mini massage which she was extremely good at.  I was really impressed at how strong and sensitive her touches were at the same time.  I also loved the conversations that we had -she's very social and genuine.

I am definitely planning to come back to see Jennifer again for another facial in the nearby future.

Shout-out to my mane man Capriece!!

I came to Patrick Evan Salon and requested that Capriece cut my hair based on prior Yelpers' recommendations.  Thanks for not disappointing, folks!

He was jovial, professional, and most importantly, knew what he was doing.  I told him that I wanted volume, which is quite a challenge for my fine, stick-straight, Asian hair.  He went so far as to say that he "welcomes challenges!"  Great attitude =)

He started off with a wash and neck massage (which was unexpected but heavenly!) which added to the whole experience.  Then, he snipped away at my hair, telling me that even though he couldn't promise a Texas beauty pageant queen bouffant, he did say that he was going to try his best.  I appreciate honesty.

The result was fabulous, and a week later, I'm still getting compliments on my haircut!  Go see Capriece if you want a stylist that listens to your needs, knows how to wield his shears with new cutting techniques I've never seen before, is diligent (he spent a LONG time on my cut, making sure he had it just right) and will give you tips on styling after the cut.  He's FABULOUS!  At $85 a cut (pretty much a steal in this city), you've got to try him out.

From the moment I walked in to the hour that I left, Patrick Evan Salon and Spa represented the type of service and expertise that I had been looking for for a long time.

My hairdresser, Tania was decisive, confident and extremely personable.  She transformed my Marsha Brady long locks to a head-turning shoulder length, sexy layered bob.  She has the personality and caliber of  a hairdresser I'd come back to over and over again.

My facialist had the gentlest touch and softest voice.  The hour long facial was as pampering as a quiet stream by a green pasture.  My skin was revealed luminous once again.

The redwood bricks, the friendly staff, the elegance and warmth this salon represents is in a class by itself.  A truly memorable experience!

It's just the right time to write a review for Patrick and Dan.

Yesterday, I decided it's time for Japanese hair straightening.
I was blown away!!

About Patrick and my process
I'd like to describe the reality and my understanding behind this rating.
First off, my hair had become dry, dull and had lot of waves in them.
Patrick is truly dedicated at what he does. He spent a good amount of time analyzing my hair texture. Then he asked me the details of color procedures I do on my hair and how often etc.

He is skilled to determine what level of concentration he can use for my straightening. How many stylists even have that understanding??

Moving along, I had some before pictures taken of my hair. It followed some pampering hair washes and then the straightening treatments.
They are very clean and you can clearly tell, they use the best of the product line for this.

By the end of the treatment, I waited long and patiently but it was so worth the wait. My hair got a new life. Its looked stunning like never before. And I mean it not just because its different today.

I dont think it would have been possible to get this happening without the best here in the field. They are also very friendly and courteous to offer drinks and even lunch if you please(Patricks assistant asked me. She was a darling) for long sessions like these.

Also, they really mean business. Patrick can recommend product lines that may work for you and if you try them and are not happy with your experience, he will give you a full refund. That shows show much he cares to make sure his customers are happy and satisfied with the experience.

About Dan
The cherry-on-the-cake was a hair trim with Dan, who in opinion, is the most talented stylist along with Patrick. I saw him give a few other men haircuts and man, is he good or what??

I asked him how layers would look on my hair, and he's sharp. He can tell you what can go best with your hair, and he is not like those other stylists who will just do whatever you say. He is brilliant and knows his stuff!!

Now if this is not the best experience with hair ever then what is??

Not bad for my first cut at Patrick Evan - Dale definitely listened to what I had to say about how "edgy" I wanted my hair, and made sure to match the cut with the photos I brought. It's great when the stylist truly listens and asks for your advice all throughout the cut. Plus, he's kinnnndda good looking, so that doesn't hurt either ;-)

So far I've received compliments from random strangers, and one of the ladies at Benefit Cosmetics even took photos of my hair because it was exactly what she wanted from her stylist.

Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because he was taking a little longer on my hair, and the receptionist came by twice to let him know his next customer was waiting... Hello obviously he's not done w/ my hair. Would've appreciated a little more styling, but it was still great the way it turned out.

I wonder if cheaters feel this guilty. I "cheated" on my regular stylist with Capriece, and even though I left feeling like a million bucks, I still feel guilty. What can I say? She's far... I'm too lazy to make the trek down to see her. Wow and the excuses start to flow. I should stop.

Capriece was amazing, despite my overwhelming sense of guilt. He noted the different textures of my hair and asked me what I was looking for. He gave me a cut that fit my lifestyle and laziness in doing anything with my hair.

He also did this technique that I had never seen before. He would section off my hair, cut it wet, then dry that section, and then cut it again dry. THEN he would move on to the next section, cut it wet, then dry that section, and then cut it again dry. I asked him why he did this and he said b/c this way he can really tell what my hair looks like and how it lies. Hm. Good point. That does make sense though as my hair reacts completely different when it is wet vs. dry.

Anyway, I don't condone real cheating, but depending on how lazy I feel, I'll probably go back to see Capriece.

Tania is not only amazing with hair, she is ALSO amazing with makeup.. I needed makeup for a photo shoot and Tania offered to do my makeup. I have to admit, I was a little sceptical at first. I mean, shes great at hair, but makeup too? too good to be true.

I decided to give her a try, because it was convenient to have the same person do my hair and makeup.

She did an amazing job! totally exceeded my expectations in every way. I will hire her again in a heartbeat for the next photo shoot.

You can see a picture of her work on my profile, its the pic of me wearing the bright colored jacket. :)

TANIA AND VANIA AT PATRICK EVANS SALON SAVE THE DAY!

I got married about 3 weeks. Tania was in charge of my make-up as well as that of my mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and my BFF. Three of the ladies also got their hair done by Tania's friend/coworker Vania. Talk about a hair and make-up dream team.

My BFF and I showed up late to the salon because we had our hair done at another salon across town and not only did my girl show up late, she also left my hair a bit of a mess. Then, we got a cabby who didn't know where the hell he was going. Not a great start to one's wedding day! Anyway, we show up 20 minutes late to the salon and I exclaim opely that my 'do needs some help! Vania finishes up with my mom and gets me in the chair. She completely fixes the mess that the other salon's hairdresser left me to walk down the aisle with. Then I hop into Tania's chair and she does her magic. Tania and Vania had the whole show running like clockwork. And even though we had them rushing and some of my girls were hovering over Tania, she handled it all with class and her signature smile. She's not only a super talented make-up artist, but also a really genuine person. She's also super on top of her game, which I totally appreciate!

A HAPPY ENDING
My girls and I were total babes thanks to Tania and Vania and we couldn't stop staring at each other in the limo. The end.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention $$. Tania's prices beat every other make-up artist I researched on Yelp. So just go for it. I promise you will not regret choosing Tania for your special day! Okay, NOW The End.

LASHES LASHES LASHES!

Melissa is AMAZING.  I complimented a co-worker of mine on her beautiful eyelashes and come to find out they were eye last extensions!  She told me to go see MELISSA at Patrick Evan Salon and I did and it has changed my life forever, I love them SO much.

Girls... just imagine how great it would be to never have to wear mascara again!!  Well now it can happen.

I hardly yelp! But I love these dammed things so much, I had to come and review them.

This is my new monthly beauty splurge, and its worth every penny!

Dear Tania,

Thank you for a fabulous hair cut. I love it!! LOVE! LOVE! I don't think I have ever walked out of a salon feeling very confident and reassure that I made the right choice to cut my hair short and BLUNT BANGS! I'm so grateful you understand my whole puffy hair issue and especially my attachment to my long hair. But like you said, whats the point of a hair cut if you are not going to cut it short? You were knowledgeable and I knew I was in good hands. It was very refreshing to find a stylist that understands my love & hate relationship with my hair.

You definitely made me feel very comfortable especially since I was a first time customer at your salon. I will definitely come back to you more often and get a free trim on my bangs when they start to grow out again. YOU ROCK! Again, thank you so much!

A satisfy customer,
Carol =)

PS. For readers who are looking for a stylist or salon -- Patrick Evan is very modern and chic. They offer a variety of services from Japanese Thermal treatment to massages. Their prices are somewhat pricey (my haircut was $85) but I think it was worth every penny.

I visited the Patrick Evan Salon for a Kerastase promotion. Kate was my stylist and I asked her to help my limp, patethic, fine hair. She recommended a few products to try on me. I wore glasses to the appointment so I had to take them off while she was blow-drying and styling my hair. I couldn't see a thing in the mirror when I was done, but when I put my glasses back on and looked in the mirror, I had to ask myself, "HAIR WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL THESE YEARS"? I never knew my hair had such potential. Thanks to Kate (who is really cute herself, btw), .

I came to Patrick Evan's salon in dire hair distress. I had recently parted ways with my old colorist and was left with a tri-colored head of hair. In desperate need of a fix to my part blonde, part brown, part brassy-red locks I called for an appointment with Steven.

I walked into the salon and it was clean and chic and the staff was friendly. Steven sat me down, listened to my hair drama story, looked at some photos of the natural looking golden blonde hair that I had been dreaming of. Steven was quick and efficient with the foils and chatting with him was a breeze.

After removing the foils, washing my hair and adding a gloss, Steven walked me back over to the chair in front of the mirror. When he took the towel off my head I was shocked! My hair looked amazing EVEN WET! I was so excited for him to start blow-drying that I was squirming around in my chair like a 6 year old! It looked even better when dry. Golden, perfect blonde that looks totally natural and full of shine.

I will definitely be back to see Steven and am going to recommend him to ANYONE I meet.

This is a great salon!  I had a thermal reconditioning with Candace and I love my hair!!  The first treatment did not fully straighten my hair and I still had some wave in the back.  Candace repeated it for FREE!!  Now it is perfect. I would definitely recommend Candace for thermals!! The entire staff is very friendly and a lot of fun!

Well, another glowing review for one of my wedding vendors.  Candace at Patrcik Evan Salon did a smashing job on my wedding hair.  Not only did it look like a work of art, but it held up ALL night long... and I was dancing up a storm!  We incorporated a headband I made from my grandmothers belt and Candace worked around the piece to create a gorgeous head of hair that people complimented all night long.   My mother, grandmother and mother in law all had our hair done and the entire staff was very calm and easy to work with.  I had a few panic attacks and Candace was a great source of calm for me.  Thanks Candance and the entire staff at Patrick Evan Salon!

This review is for Capriece.

Capriece is AMAZING.  I hadn't had my hair cut in nearly nine months the first time I went to see him, and needless to say it was a complete mess.  I hadn't been in so long because I'd had such a chop job the last time and I was terrified of people with scissors!

Capriece takes his time and does the job right, from the scalp massage to the cut to the style.  Yes, you might have to wait a little bit, but it is entirely worth it.

Did I mention I drive over two hours round trip and brave parking in San Francisco for Capriece?  I simply haven't found a better hairstylist in the bay area - even hairstylists that cost twice as much.

Go - you'll wonder how you ever survived without his magic!

My hair is nearly perfectlt straight even when only air dried. From an hour and a half styling time to wash and go hair....dream come true. Thank you so much Candace!

Thermal reconditioning = Candace!

When you find a place full of talented, down to earth, incredible people like the staff of Patrick Evan Salon, you are a fan for life. I had such a great initial experience with them that I knew I had to come back for my retouch to my thermal reconditioning. This time Candace was my stylist...and I'm impressed. VERY impressed. If you've been considering getting a thermal, if you're hesitant or nervous, I'm telling you: DO IT! Thermal reconditioning is to hair what Lasik is to eyes...life changing. You will have the hair you spent your whole life envying, and it really stays that way until your hair grows out. And absolutely book Candace, whose attention to detail, patience, and knowledge made her worth the flight from San Diego to San Francisco for this client. Yes, I traveled 500 miles to see her! She is a total doll and a great resource for tips on products to use (without the pressured sales tactics to buy only the products offered in the salon...I ended up buying a conditioner from the salon specifically because I trusted she wasn't just trying to add one to her sale). I believe in yelp reviews, and this place lives up to the hype. Do yourself a huge favor. Save the time you spend everyday flat ironing and repeatedly damaging your hair and sleep in. Once Candace works her magic on your frizzy, curly, poofy, or otherwise unmanageable locks, you will be having very sweet dreams :).

I tend to have not so great luck with hair salons and when I move, finding a new salon is always what I dread most. I moved to SF from LA over a year ago and knew I needed to find somewhere that could handle my massive curly hair. More importantly,  I needed someone who knew how to touch up my chemical relaxer without messing up my hair completely.

The first place in the city that I went to for my chemical relaxer was alright but weeks later, I realized my hair was just as curly and frizzy as when I started. The next place I tried was in San Jose and at the time, it seemed like they did a great job; however, months later, I noticed that a portion of my hair burnt off in the back! Needless to say, I had been desperately searching for a new salon that I could count on to do my chemical relaxer right.

I came in for a consultation to see Capriece and he was great! I quickly booked an appointment and was in 2 weeks later for my relaxer. I've been doing chemical relaxers for about 10 years now, been through a handful of different salons and I was really impressed with Capriece. I felt totally calm when he was working on my hair which is new for me since I'm always incredibly nervous with a new hair dresser. What I liked most is that Capriece explained what he was doing every step of the way, so I knew what was going on. It was kinda like a chemical relaxer 101 crash course while he was working on my hair!

HIGHLY recommend Capriece. The price tag is a bit high ($150 for my relaxer and $85 for a hair cut) but at least you can rest easy knowing you're in the right hands.

It is not easy finding a new salon when you move to a new city, trust me- I have tried the good, the bad, and the worst before I finally found my new hair home.

Patrick Evans is in an excellent location (close to downtown), the salon has a very welcoming atmosphere, and a very professional staff- Tania G is AMAZING! Tania knows what she is doing when it comes to color, and will take ALL the time necessary to tone, re-tone, add extra highlights, etc- whatever is needed to get your hair perfect.

I am always happy when I leave the salon.

I've been going to Patrick for about 5-6 years to get my hair thermal reconditioned. Prior to going the first time, I did tons of research on thermals due to the damage ithey can cause on your hair. I've heard horror stories about people who have had their hair fall out or the treatment burns their scalp. After reading through various reviews, I finally decided to go to Patrick.

Let me first explain that I have thick hair .. REALLY thick hair, and it was frizzy to the max. Patrick did an amazing job the first time, so I've kept going back ever since. I've done the process about 8-9 times, and although it's expensive, I think it's money well worth spent. Patrick is also more than happy to give you a free consultation .. DO IT!

Note: Tips must be paid in cash.

When I moved up here from LA almost a year ago, I had no idea where I was going to get my highlights and cuts... thankfully, a good friend introduced me to Dale at Patrick Evan and I have been happily set ever since.
Dale does great, natural color without a lot of fuss - he's efficient and good at what he does.  That alone would be enough... but the man also cuts.  Great haircuts with plenty of layers and style that match your personality, but nothing high maintenance.  His work compares with anything I've gotten done in even the most shi-shi of LA places. Thank you, Dale!

still loving steven!  but also loving capriece, who used to cut my hair.  he is super talented (and good looking!).  i don't go to him anymore because i got back together with my old stylist who was giving me a discount.  (it's an on and off relationship!)

i recommend him if you want someone who is detailed and very talented with layers.

Capriece..  Capriece..   Capriece..

That's all you need to know.

Let me start off by saying I am a cheap ass, but when it comes to hair I don't have a problem shelling out 85.00 for a haircut.. esp if Capriece is behind the shears.  I've had too many messed up [read cheap] haircuts to know the difference between a 20.00 haircut and an 85.00 haircut.

I have [had] long, thick and coarse hair.  Which was always pulled back in a pony tail or some kind of messed up bun.  I wanted something low maintenance, edgy, clean and easy..  He was able to give me all of that and an amazing head massage [while washing my hair]!!  My cut is super easy to manage..  just wash and go.. and it still holds the same style and sleekness as if I just left salon.  I love it.

If you're looking for a new style and considering Patrick Evan, I highly advise you to save up for your first big girl hair cut.  It is well worth it!!

Forgot to mention, I've been to Hair Play [in Noe Valley] and prefer Patrick Evan over them.

I LOVE Lamice! Ask for her and let her work her magic on you! (she also does lash extensions)

I don't like to get too comfortable with a particular salon, stylist or waxer (is that what they're called) but ever since I stumbled upon this place I've been monogamous.

The space is very chic and spacious and they're always displaying new art on their walls at least once a month if not more. Everyone here are so friendly, that I always feel as if I'm apart of the family.

I took my girlfriends here and at first they were hesitant to try it out, thinking that they were going to spend an extravagant amount of money for a hair cut. I'm not sure how much they spent for their hair cuts, but they mentioned that it was less than they were expecting and was completely satisfied with the after results. At the end of the day they had fallen in love with everyone their including their stylist...Caprise.

So, when I went in to get the manetamer relaxer with Sara, I have to say I was a bit hesitant.  First off, I have a love/hate relationship with my curly hair (don't we all???)...I was worried the relaxer would make my hair stick straight.  Also, I was having flashbacks of the time I got my hair relaxed in middle school....my hair was a frizzy mess and didn't even have the texture of human hair anymore.

Sara was really patient with me and answered all my questions.  She made me feel really comfortable and assured me that my hair would be wavy and would still look and feel healthy!

I left the salon feeling like a hair commercial!  And that has NEVER happened to me!  My hair actually felt better than before the treatment and of course its wavy just like I wanted!  Yay Sara!!

Capriece is The Man. I recently tried to get onto my usual stylist's book for a last-minute, emergency haircut, but she was booked so I went out on a limb and Yelped my way over to Patrick Evan Salon. I decided to give Capriece a shot since so many of you raved about him. Well, as usual, you Yelpers were right! :-)

I wanted something wash-n-go, volumizing, and current. Without me saying very much, Capriece instantly picked up on what I wanted. It's like he divined it from my brain. After a spine-tingling scalp and neck massage, I was half-asleep in his chair. As he clipped away, he also offered some friendly chit-chat....but not too TOO much chit-chat, know what I mean? Not only is he super-nice, he's also funny. It's always more fun to get your hair cut by a pleasant person, isn't it?

Now, I have a shoulder-grazing, swingy cut that emphasizes my natural subtle waves, and just like Capriece promised, it is definitely wash-n-go. I love it!!!!  Now, if I could only get over the guilt of cheating on my regular stylist!

TANIA ROCKS!!!!!

Before visiting Patrick Evan Salon, my hair was long and dry, and in dire need of a new look. A friend suggested Tania at this Salon.  So, I made an appointment on Saturday evening.
I was a little nervous about the outcome- I've had so many bad hair cuts in this city.. But, Tania managed to turn my ratty mane into a sexy-hip and healthy do... I highly recommend Tania for any hair needs!
more reasons to see Tania!
-She's available within the week you call.
- She has amazing tips on all types of hair
- She very meticulous when cutting and coloring (no weird cuts or bad color jobs)
-And,  she's funny and charming

I figured I'd update since it's been near 3 years since I wrote the first review for Patrick Evan.  I still come to Patrick for my TR needs and will never, ever see anyone else.  He is great!  Always friendly and personable and takes active interest in his clients.  He's an expert at his craft and has great assistants who are equally as friendly.

TR is a great investment for people like me.  I remember the first time I did it and I was so nervous -- Patrick was very thorough in explaining what would be done.  I trust him completely.  I have had several friends say that they hear about salon xyz or whatever that charges $250...well buyer beware, you get what you pay for, if you want to pay to get a fried head of bendy hair that looks like sh*t then be my guest.

Anyway I just had a touchup last week and it was just over 3 hours for me.  Prepare to spend between 3-5 hours or more.  The results are worth it, to go from 45 mins of prep to a 2 min blow dry out the door -- you can't beat that!

I first met Patrick when he was at diPietro Todd in 2001...he was the first person to do Japanese Straightening, or Thermal Reconditioning on my hair.  I went in scared that I would leave with my hair cooked off.  Instead, I left with the new hair of my dreams.  I would say Patrick is a miracle worker and he has an incredible talent with hair straightening.

I then followed Patrick to Maiden Lane, some other salon off Union Square, and I was so happy to see his success in opening his own salon.

The last time I went to Patrick, he had his assistant do the majority of the straightening...no problem, but I wish he could had spent more time supervising, especially since these chemicals can MELT you hair off.

Another thing I did not appreciate was Patrick attempting to sell me a Thermal Reconditioning Hair Package.  It was something like "Pay me $3,000 right now, and you'll get 6 straightenings for the price of 5."
Yes, this would have been a good deal, but, I don't usually have an extra 3K to drop on my hair at a moment's notice.  I told him I didn't want to buy it, but he continued to try and persuade me.  He put his sale pitch on, and even though I usually run away when someone tries to sell me something, I had to remain in the chair, because, there were chemicals that could MELT my hair on my head!

Finally, he accepted that I did not want the package.  But he made me feel uncomfortable in the process...

If I can give you my piece of advice: Don't buy one of these packages, this is why: 1) What if the business moves, closes down, changes ownership, etc. -- you'll be up the creek, 2) You may want a change and return to your curlhood,( I love my straight hair, but sometimes I miss my curls...)

Because of this experience, I have moved on to other straighteners (all of which were apprentices under Patrick at one time or another)  This can attest to my belief in his talents, and my unwillingness to be pressured into a sale.

Riccardo is the BEST! I have been coming to him for a year and a half now and my boyfriend now comes to him because Riccardo is like a miracle worker. He makes haircuts an art. I will always go to him for my hair - I don't trust anyone else.

Lamis (forget the spelling) - Does the best Brazilians! I came in there freaking out and she made it the best experience! Buy some no scream cream and you're set, its over in 25 minutes.

Everyone at the salon is so sweet too! I love Kate (Riccardo's asst), the bubbly girl at the front desk, Lamis, Patrick and his girlfriend, etc etc. they are amazing people, each and everyone of them.

I always get nothing but the best and Patrick Evan Salon are just that!

Tania turned my discolored locks and three inch roots into something quite perfect, so I can't give this place anything less than five stars.

AH!!! I LOVE MY NEW HAIR COLOR!!!

Sorry, I breathed in a lot of fumes from the dye...

Sara is the only hair stylist in years that's been able to solve the mystery of how to lighten up my ultra thick, frizzy/wavy hair with layers that do not make me look like I'm wearing a helmet.
In addition, she was honest about whether or not i should go with thermal reconditioning or relaxing my hair, both methods that most stylists would push me into just for the $$ I'd spend, but not Sara.
Pricey yes, but I felt it was worth it. Haven't felt that way about a trip to the salon in awhile.  Bring cash or check for tipping*

I'm an air-dry and run kinda girl. The pineapple hair-do is my favorite. Up in a tie on the top of my head. Unstyled, messy, and out of my face.

Due to my no fuss attitude about hair,  I short-change my wonderful cuts. I butt-head part them, I put them up in ponytails, and I never blow-dry them. They sulk, all hidden and pulled up in my Walgreens hair ties.

It's not cool of me. I mean, do you ever watch those makeover shows, where house-wives get transformed after countless hours with the 'experts?'  They're all dolled up: fake smiles, fake tans, over-hairsprayed hair.....only to have the camera crew come back a couple of weeks later to check back on their progress....

...uh progress?

The camera guys are having trouble focussing on the women. Their fake teeth are out, in a jar beside their bed, they have day old mascara clumps in the corner of their eyes, their brown roots are showing, and they're  wearing two sizes too small leggings, paired with a Halloween sweater and Keds.

Because they didn't think it necessary, or weren't shown how to follow through and style themselves.

Lesson being:

It takes a cooperative effort between those that "make you over" and the subject  -( you, me, aka. the home stylist) -  to make a 'look' work. And work well.

I reached this simple epiphany with my hair, due to two important people --- Connie C --- and Capriece (wonder stylist)

If you haven't already seen Connie's recent pictures -  do!  Connie's new hair-style is amazing. The color and shape is exceptional. I messaged her right away about who she went to....

Next thing I know I'm making an appointment to see Capriece at the Patrick Even Salon.

Capriece is a phenomenal artist. He's been cutting his own hair since the age of 15. He puts unbelievable time and effort into each cut. He gave me a beautiful look, that only now I'm just discovering it's full potential. He spent well over an hour and a half, putting little touches in.

At first, only some quick-eyed few, noticed my new cut, but

...this past Tuesday, I finally decided I would part my hair differently, and even blow dry it. It was time to play around with the putty on my head. If just for my kids' sake, so they don't have to stare at picture after picture of me with the SAME damn hairstyle.

I received no end of compliments as a result.

And I have Capriece to thank. The skill and time that Capriece  put into my cut has forced me to strive to become a better 'hair' person. It has encouraged me to want to learn how to style my own hair...

I don't want to end up wearing ketchup stained Halloween sweaters later in life.

P.S. - I have now reviewed three differnt hairstylists with five stars. Each one I would recommend highly. And then some. I just really enjoy trying new stylists. A million props to: Capriece, Shelley (my "hair home"), and Dara Roberts.

P.P.S. Thank you Connie!

I decided that with the change of season, I needed a new hair color - something rich and dark, just how I like my chocolate. I called Grasshopper to make an appointment with Capriece, one of my favorite stylists, but found out that he was no longer there. Fortunately, they gave me the number to Patrick Evan where I could find him. They were able to squeeze me into his busy schedule and I got an appointment for the very next day.

The salon is very cool with an industrial and artsy vibe, with the cutest salon dog running around named Pepe. The other stylists were very friendly too, and seemed cool about lending a hand whenever a fellow stylist needed one.

Capriece is amazing. I'm embarrassed that I ever strayed and went to other stylists. He gave me the most gorgeous dark brown color, and he actually took the time to make sure it turned out the perfect deep brown tone.

In the past couple of years, I've referred a number of my friends to Capriece, and they have all loved him. He was so appreciative for the referrals, and he even gave me a generous gift of thanks.

Capriece will make you look and feel incredibly fabulous, so make an appointment to see him now!
