This salon is top notch - incredible cuts for all sorts of hair types. I saw Vania for a cut, and returned weeks later for color. I went for a blunt bang (risky, I know) cut, and she did such a great job that I've received more compliments on my hair than I ever have! I went back yesterday for some color and she spent some quality time consulting with me before finally mixing a great deep hue.

I also love the environment here. It's very professional but not snooty. All the women who walk out of this place look fantastic. Don't let the shabby entrance scare you - following the rickety elevator ride up to the 4th floor, you're welcomed into a clean, spacious, high ceiling loft that overlooks the Grant shopping stores.

LOVE MY HIGHLIGHTS----SEVENTH HEAVEN.  Oh so natural.

Please take the mirror away from me.  No chunky weird hair color.

Steven Payne took all the yellow out of my skin by giving me luscious highlights that complement my skin tone.  Bring lots of colored photos and tell him what you want.  He is calm and just wants to please you.

My kind of man.

this i is a late review and its going to be a five star!!!!
I cant tell you how happy I am about my new hair do. After consulting with various stylist about my hair I finally landed to Riccardo at Patrick Evan. One o my Friend recommended to me while ago but I was loyal to my stylist and gave him a chance to make me blond . ah disaster!!! I finally went to see him for consultation. after a short consultation the man already had a plan. I couldn't wait for the appointment I was very nervous, but more I saw him working the more comfortable I start feel and my instinct was wright I came out with a gorgeous blond  hair color and a rock star hair cut.
If you have having a bad time with you hair I will definitely recommend Riccardo!!!!!

So, although I've never been to the official Patrick Evan salon, I have had thermal reconditioning done by Patrick when he was at Maiden Lane.  I will also say that I've never had a haircut or color by him.

BUT!  He is very very good at the straightening process!  When I first had it done, my hair was down to my waist and super thick and curly.  Patrick transformed it into Crystal Gale status!

So if you're looking for someone to straighten your hair...he's the man!

Another five star review? Yeah, sorry, I didn't want to, but Tania turned my discolored locks and three inch roots into something quite perfect, so I can't give this place anything less than five stars.

AH!!! I LOVE MY NEW HAIR COLOR!!!

Sorry, I breathed in a lot of fumes from the dye...

The is one of the best salon in the city. I'm very hard to please when it came to color and cut.
I saw Riccardo for cut and color. He gave me amazing Highlight they look very natural. He is fast and accurate, he will talk if you feel talky, or just work if you don't feel chatty. You have to find someone who really get you hair type.I often ended up with dreaded hair pyramid. My last hair dresser before Riccardo tried to handle my hair giving me a disconnected hair cut, so it looked like i was wearing a long wig over short bob.
Riccardo studied my hair. He snips and measures and at the end, my hair look great. No more pyramid, I get so many compliment.
Another plus is his assistant Kate she gives amazing shampoo, and not to say she look like Kathe Holmes, so you get shampooed by a star and live the salon feeling like one

I saw Riccardo for the first time, and it was terrific,  I was ready for change and he made it happen. The salon itself is very relaxed, cool environment.
He listens exactly what I want.He suggested the perfect color for my skin tone and gave me very flattering hair cut whit sexy layers. I just love it I get compliment every day.

thank you so much Riccardo your talent has made me really happy

I saw the FABULOUS Steven for the first time on Friday. He did a wonderful job keeping me entertained and of course getting my hair to look rad. He is super sweet and very focused on his work. I highly recommend him for coloring hair red or vibrant colors...he has a gift of knowing what compliments you and your skin tone. :)

Tonya is an unbelievable stylist AND colorist! Two examples:

The first time I saw Tonya was because my old hairdresser dyed my hair orange. I was leaving for Europe the next day and she happily squeezed me in when she learned of the "emergency." Not only did Tonya fix my hair, giving me the most gorgeous natural highlights, but it lasted more than 4 months!  I am usually an every eight week girl, but the way Tonya does my highlights I only go in every 4 to 5 months! It's amazing, and it saves me a lot of money.

To second that, I recently took out my hair extension after having them for more than 3 years. I was completely freaked out about how my natural hair would look since I've always had very fine hair. Tonya assured me that she would make it look great and SHE DID! I get so many compliments on my new hair, people say they like the new short cut better then my extensions.

Not only is she an amazing stylist but she's also very intellectual and carry's great conversation.  

Got an ass-kicking cut and highlight from Tania.  She turned my frighteningly overgrown, used-to-be blonde stacked bob (a.k.a. near-mullet with a root 'ditch' fit only for an embarrassed pony-tail holder) into a chic and shiny honey-colored, cheek-bone-grazing, piecey thing of asymmetrical beauty.

The experience was positive, too.  It's nice to go to a high-end salon that doesn't take itself too seriously.  There's plenty of talent here, but the people are nice, the vibe is low key, and rather than the requisite all-black, 'My sneer is haughtier than your sneer' salon uniform, the stylists wear clothes that actually reflect their personalities.

The only downsides were that it took awhile (3 hours), and it wasn't cheap.  That's the nature of this game, though, and certainly not exclusive to the PE salon.

I'll definitely go back.

This review is dedicated to the ever so talented, chill and overly awesome Vanya (not to be confused with Tonya, though she seems pretty awesome too). I've been to so many different stylists in my lifetime but never has anyone been so consistent and gone above and beyond every time I get up off that chair. Though it's a bit pricey (close to $300 for highlights, toner, and a cut) it's well worth it.

She listens to exactly what I want, offers suggestions or tips and in the end it's always better than I expected. I got my hair done by her three days ago and I'm still getting compliments from people at work!

Thanks Vanya!

Capriece is The Man. I recently tried to get onto my usual stylist's book for a last-minute, emergency haircut, but she was booked so I went out on a limb and Yelped my way over to Patrick Evan Salon. I decided to give Capriece a shot since so many of you raved about him. Well, as usual, you Yelpers were right! :-)

I wanted something wash-n-go, volumizing, and current. Without me saying very much, Capriece instantly picked up on what I wanted. It's like he divined it from my brain. After a spine-tingling scalp and neck massage, I was half-asleep in his chair. As he clipped away, he also offered some friendly chit-chat....but not too TOO much chit-chat, know what I mean? Not only is he super-nice, he's also funny. It's always more fun to get your hair cut by a pleasant person, isn't it?

Now, I have a shoulder-grazing, swingy cut that emphasizes my natural subtle waves, and just like Capriece promised, it is definitely wash-n-go. I love it!!!!  Now, if I could only get over the guilt of cheating on my regular stylist!

This is my first review, but i search on here all the time and actually chose to go to Patrick Evan salon because of all the good review, and I HATE that I'm writing a bad review, but this is the worst hair cut i actually have ever had.
I recently moved here and I was in desperate need of a hair cut. So I finally called Patrick Evan salon and booked an hair cut with Dale.
The first thing i asked is to cut my (former) bangs back to be a real bangs again, but I was told that that was "too young" and basically wasn't allowed to get them!!!
I mentioned that i never go without straightening my hair. Knowing that should have tipped him off that whetever he did would be super exaggerated once my hair was straightened.... like the fact that the hair on the right side of my Head was is a full inch longer than hair on the left side. the cut seemed okay while it was happening , but after finishing my hair was blow dried using a round brush so it was all puffy at the end and so i just left it like that. I didn't realize how bad it was until next morning when i washed and straightened  like usual...... my cut is totally uneven and the back is all choppy it look like a 5 year old took scissors to the back of my head and chopped off random piece. I haven't worn my hair down since this cut happened, and that says a LOT.
Overall, I am so unhappy with this cut. For $85  bucks, I feel I was totally ripped off.

Tania is pretty amazing. I told her I wanted a drastic change and off came about a foot and a half of hair. She wanted to cut out some hair from undernearth which I was not going to let happen. I HATE LAYERS. Not letting her do this upset her because she was worried that it just wasn't going to fall right after I washed it. But it was more than fine after I washed it. It's so amazingly easy to take care of now. I have about an hour of my life back in the mornings and I haven't worn my hair in a pony tail since having it cut. Plus after leaving the salon I had two people tell me they love my hair and ... scott weiland even took notice and signed my set list after the velvet revolver show. Two thubs up Tania (I'm still not cutting any more out from underneath though -- get over it :P). I will be back!

I first met Patrick when he was at diPietro Todd in 2001...he was the first person to do Japanese Straightening, or Thermal Reconditioning on my hair.  I went in scared that I would leave with my hair cooked off.  Instead, I left with the new hair of my dreams.  I would say Patrick is a miracle worker and he has an incredible talent with hair straightening.

I then followed Patrick to Maiden Lane, some other salon off Union Square, and I was so happy to see his success in opening his own salon.

The last time I went to Patrick, he had his assistant do the majority of the straightening...no problem, but I wish he could had spent more time supervising, especially since these chemicals can MELT you hair off.

Another thing I did not appreciate was Patrick attempting to sell me a Thermal Reconditioning Hair Package.  It was something like "Pay me $3,000 right now, and you'll get 6 straightenings for the price of 5."
Yes, this would have been a good deal, but, I don't usually have an extra 3K to drop on my hair at a moment's notice.  I told him I didn't want to buy it, but he continued to try and persuade me.  He put his sale pitch on, and even though I usually run away when someone tries to sell me something, I had to remain in the chair, because, there were chemicals that could MELT my hair on my head!

Finally, he accepted that I did not want the package.  But he made me feel uncomfortable in the process...

If I can give you my piece of advice: Don't buy one of these packages, this is why: 1) What if the business moves, closes down, changes ownership, etc. -- you'll be up the creek, 2) You may want a change and return to your curlhood,( I love my straight hair, but sometimes I miss my curls...)

Because of this experience, I have moved on to other straighteners (all of which were apprentices under Patrick at one time or another)  This can attest to my belief in his talents, and my unwillingness to be pressured into a sale.

Riccardo does the best highlights I have ever had (and I've been all over Orange County, LA and SF) It just suits me perfectly and he makes it so it looks like it lasts forever!

I haven't done a cut in awhile (obsessed with growing my hair like Blake Lively ...aka Serena from Gossip Girl)

Cool environment, relaxing, and Riccardo and Melissa are both insanely talented and helpful, and I always feel so good, and look great, when I leave!

It is quite apparent that everyone loves Patrick Evans salon, whats not to like? Cool ambiance, friendly service, talented stylists..

BUT, I have to pay particular gratitude to RICCARDO because he is the man who really makes it happen for me. I am an unnatural blond who looks like she has been blessed by the sun god - the color is that natural/ bold...As for the cut - my hair is always kept in the perfect sexy secretary bob with rounded bangs - a hairdo that requires quite a bit of craftsmanship.

Mostly I've had stylists who will give me some crazy haircut that I might love in passing, but they could not replicate its grandeur if their life depended on it. Ricardo is quite the opposite. He posses immense skill, timeless style and reliability - all invaluable traits.

I was getting married in a little over a week and I still had not found a salon to style my hair. I called up Patrick Evan Salon and they were able to squeeze me in for a trial run the very next day as well as get me an appointment the day of my wedding. At my trial appointment, Tania took the time to try a couple different styles that I might like. She was so friendly and really wanted me to not only have a hairstyle that I liked, but a hairstyle that would match the theme of my wedding and reflect my personality. The day of my wedding, Tania was so sweet and confident that my anxieties melted away. As a bonus, I still needed to have my nails painted and they had someone available to paint my nails while my curls were setting. I couldn't have asked for more! This was one of the best experiences on my wedding day...aside from the ceremony that is. Thanks Tania!!

When I moved back from NY in 2001, I called 77 Maiden Lane and asked "who is your best colorist?" The receptionist whispered "Steven Payne."  From the first appointment I was hooked...so when he moved to Patrick Evan Salon about a year or so later (much cooler place by the way,) I came right along with him.

Steven is really great with brunettes (although he confessed he also loves working with blondes but I will let that go... ;-))  Every time I see him (which is often) he checks in with me and we discuss what I want. He listens carefully and delivers. He is also the only colorist I've been to who can blend in gorgeous auburn highlights with my dark hair and get the color just right...

The great thing about this salon overall is the very cool vibe - and everyone is so friendly that I look forward to going there for my appointments. I usually can't wait to fill Steven in on my life's latest news - it's rare to find such a great personality and talent wrapped up in one person, and that's why I keep coming back...

I've been going to Patrick for almost 3 years.  There are no words to describe how much I love this man.  I see him twice a year for a 5 hour session - he does his little thermal reconditioning magic, I drop $700 and leave.  Yes, I said $700 per visit.  Ouch is right ... but you get what you pay for and this includes saying goodbye to bad hair days, hello to a shorter get-ready time and of course the compliments are always nice ... the requests from strangers to touch your hair is still a little weird and invasive but whatever.  There have been mornings when I've had to roll out of bed directly into a suit (um, this morning, in fact)and had to pull off a professional court-worthy look in 4 minutes or less.  Patrick has absolutely all of my love - every day and twice on Sunday!

Vania (said like Tonya but with a V) called my bluff...I wanted to go very short but she said "if you pull it back now, you're gonna find a way to pull it back even if it's short...let me clean it up and fix the mess."  The cut she gave me was everything I wanted BUT could not put in words...there's movement, shine, manageability and lightness...I HAVE TONS OF HAIR, so that's a feat in itself!!!  The color she gave me was deep and rich with the right amount of subtle highlights.  She did an amazing job!!  It's almost as if she figured out my fickle personality and made an executive decision...I love a take charge kinda stylist!!

I am terrified of haircuts. I probably have some sort of phobia or something it's that bad. I've actually gone to a salon, sat in the chair and had the apron thing thrown on, caught a bad feeling about the place and walked out saying "I can't do this," they looked at me like I was insane and maybe I am but I've just been butchered so many times that I just started avoiding cuts at all cost, sometimes letting my hair get really out of control before finally going to a salon.

That being said I was pleasantly surprised when I came to Patrick Evan Salon. Vania cut my hair and was super nice, easy to talk to and actually knew what I wanted when I explained it to her, something no other place has been able to do yet. I told her about my little phobia and she was more than understanding and made me feel much better about the whole thing.

Go see Vania!! She'll hook you up.

All the other reviews say it all (except that one bitchy girl - who doesn't f-ing LOVE dogs!?).  PE Salon is cool - its like an art gallery where they make your hair art - and its not nearly as pretentious as you'd probably think.

While you're there get some color from Steven Payne.  I've seen him turn some seriously unfortunate hair into a shiny gem.  Plus - there are worse fates than having a seriously hot guy fumbling around with your locks (if you know what I mean!)

Other than their obvious talent for all things "hair", PE Salon has been super generous to the non-profit I work for.  They donate tons of stuff for our fundraising events.....and I don't work for like the Boys and Girls Club - my place is up in the ghetto.  In fact one of our Board Members scooped up all of the gift certificates from PE Salon that we were auctioning off and she won't shut up about how much she loved it!

It's very expensive (picture me saying that in the same tone as the shopgirl from Pretty Woman, because that's what I was going for), but its worth it to look that good.

Tania was wonderful.  I was very specific about being somewhat conservative for the job yet also leaving the ultimate decision up to her design sensibility, and she cut my hair in a way that is very modern and has a lot of swing and body.  I also enjoyed talking to her. This was my first time in this salon, and the people were helpful and nice. Patrick himself went to get clean smocks.

The elevator was not working at the end, so I gave up and took the stair down. Patrick was funny and cute about it, saying "bad elevator!"

I'm a big fan of any building that showcases exposed brick.  Seriously.  Give me some exposed brick and I'm like putty in your hands.
It's no surprise then, that I really liked the aesthetic experience of getting my hair cut at the Patrick Evan Salon.  Right away, I felt at ease and up for anything.
Want to dye my hair purple, go ahead?

I was greeted by a super nice girl at the front desk and waited all of 5 minutes or so for my stylist Tania.  She's REALLY great.  We spent a few minutes figuring out the plans for my hair.  I liked her personality and "chair-side manner".  She's totally fun, laid-back, has a rad tattoo, and is anti-trendy.  MY HERO!
Seriously though, the girl can cut some hair.

I decided to try to grow my hair out long, so we were just going to even out some layers, etc.  However mid-cut, she looked at me and I looked at her and we said --- F*@# it...let's chop it all off.  So she did.
And I even got some long bangs (a first for me).  And I LOVE IT.

I know there is a lot of hype about other stylists here, but definitely consider Tania if you want either a cutting edge new do, or a classic cut.
She's superb and I don't often say that about too many hair stylists.

I truly believe that Dale Martin has skills. The first couple of times I went to him, I was out of there in about 25 minutes (seriously) with a great haircut.  The next couple of times the results weren't as good. I couldn't justify the cost after getting an average hair cut. I probably held him to a higher standard as this place is too expensive to be anything but spectacular. I'm not saying I want to go to Supercuts, but I think there are more reasonable alternatives than this.

I would give 0 stars as there seems to be a lot of fake reviews for this business.  Here's the deal....I am searching for a 5 star hair salon....I am reading through all the reviews for the highest rated.  As I am reading reviews for Patrick Even, I become aware that I am reading some of the same reviews as I just read for Secret Agent.  Being inquisitive, I noticed that the ratings on Secret Agent seemed genuine...with profiles that led to actual people. The same reviews on Patrick Evan, however, did not lead to actual profiles....just a plug for PE; all posted in August....   Who ever is doing this, it is deceiptful, defeats the purpose of Yelp , pisses me off because I dont have a lot of time and I despise a business that wastes my time with false advertising.

Thanks to all the reviews on Yelp, I've decided to give Capriese a try.
He was such a nice and sweet stylist and so very charismatic....We talked through the trim since I wanted to keep the length and he made several suggestions.
He styled it really nice and I told him that I'll never be able to replicate the same and he gave me some hints to blowdry and style it at home with a paddle brush....Thanks, Yelp and Capriese!

Update 1/20/08: I returned to PE on Friday to see Steven to update my highlights. PE retained their 5-star rating. I really like Steven, and goodness is the man effortessly talented. I wanted classy red/auburn highlights, and Steven delivered. They look amazing, but not tacky, and still subtle enough for my conservative taste. So, fellow Yelpers, I highly recommend visiting PE b/c they exhibit both consistency and great talent.

Original Review: I'm a low maintenance girl in many ways, and hair is one of them (I can normally be seen sporting a bun). But, I just turned 25 and wanted to splurge on a change for me. Found PE via Yelp and made an appt. I've been feeling good since I left PE last night ~ and I want to thank VONIA and STEVEN, my hairstylist and colorist, respectively, for perking up my weekend!

I excepted a snobby salon since the salon is pretty swanky (in an urban/hipster kind of way) and very pricey, but was *pleasantly surprised* by the staff, all of whom were friendly and down to earth. That alone earns them stars in my book.

I'm a color virgin, but Steven, being the friendly, kind guy he was, spent time telling me what he wanted to do, which worked with what I had in mind. It looks beautiful, to say the least; very fun, but classy "harvest highlights." That's just my term for them due to the autumn season, but they're caramel colored, and I believe he added some darker tones as well to other parts of my hair to keep up the contrast.

Vonia is also very cool and she gave me a killer cut. I have thick, dry, natural wavy/curly hair, but enjoy getting it blowdried/flatironed on occasion as well. She took out the bulk (no more poof!) and now, while it's straight, my cut is modern, fun&flowy, with blended layers. Vonia said that when I wear my curls, my hair should look just as good, with the curls falling gracefully as well. Curly girls, take note: Vonia seems to know her stuff b/c she cut my hair dry, which I feel is best with our kind of hair.

All in all, I spent a few hours there, and I'm more than happy with the results. PE will definitely be my special splurge outlet!

Love them. Absolutely.

So I was the girl with the long , very frizzy, curly hair that took about an hour to straighten. The kind of hair that isn't corkscrew pretty curls but more like amalgamated mass of question marks, very unpredictable, and downright scary in humid climates. Nice texture mind you, but just wild. I was fortunate enough to go with them to a hair show recently and have thermal reconditioning (aka Japanese hair straightening) done. When the (lengthy) process was over, my hair was straight but a little poofy. Not to fear! Patrick had me come back in for a retouch and take my hair to perfect. Now I can just blow dry my hair with my fingers (sans brush, I swear) and it is dead straight and shiny. I have to touch up the baby hairs with a flat iron (taking all of literally one minute) but other than that I have the kind of hair I never thought was possible. And I don't have to get my roots done for another 6 months. If you've been considering getting a thermal, you couldn't chose a better, more experienced person than Patrick. The fact that he and everyone I've met there are sincere and awesome people is just icing on the cake :).

I recently moved back to the Bay Area from the snorefest known as St. Louis and the minute I unpacked my bags, I was on the phone with Grasshopper Salon where my trusted stylist Capriece used to regularly transform my shapeless, boring head of hair into chic masterpieces.  The receptionist at Grasshopper was nice enough to inform me that Capriece was now working at the Patrick Evan Salon and I immediately called for an appointment there.  I would follow Capriece to Fremont if he lost his mind and moved there but thankfully, such a disaster was averted.  Patrick Evan is in Union Square and parking might be a bitch but at least you can pimp your new hairdo while doing some shopping after your visit to the salon.

Short of picking up a razor and giving me a buzz cut, I'll let Capriece do just about anything to my hair.  I always look fantastic walking out of the salon, it looks great when I'm left to my own devices to style it, and I still get compliments a month later when it's grown out a bit.  That is the work of a master.  I never walk in with the idiotic notion that I know what I want, because what Capriece comes up with is always better than I could possibly have imagined on my own.  And he's got a great chair side manner.  He's geniunely interested in hearing how your life is going and what you've been up to but there isn't an endless stream of chatter so that you have to wonder if he's paying attention to what he's doing.  Trust me, he is.

If you're looking for a new look, go to Capriece and give him the freedom to do anything and I guarantee that you'll be thrilled.  And if you're not, I don't think my address is anywhere on here so hopefully you can't find me.

So, I work with Capriece -- and he is a fine piece (I couldn't resist!)!  I know he has tons of reviews on here from the women -- but guys, he does an amazing job with mens hair too!!  I've been a haircolorist for over 15 years (started at 77 Maiden Lane Salon for 12--then Patrick Evan for 4) -- and I've had tons of "fabulous" hairdressers (i.e. expensive haircuts) over the years and NONE have been as incredible as "Cappy"!!  He truly is an artist without any of the "big time" attitude.

If you get a chance -- get in his chair!!  HIGHLY recommended!!!

I went to Patrick Evan Salon for the first time about 6 weeks ago. I was treated really nice at the reception and I didn't even have to wait to have my hair cut.
That's then I met Dale Martin, a true genious.
We had a little talk about what I wanted and what would look good on me and he just hit right on the nail. I really liked the fact that he would always ask before "proceeding".
After such an amazing job on my head, I went back to work and I got nothing but compliments.
The rest of the staff I exchanged a few words with (especially Melissa and Capriece) were really nice and friendly.
A true pleasure / 100% worth the price.

I felt guilty for leaving my current stylist of over 15 years, but after reading all the positive reviews, I decided to call and make an appointment with Capriece.  Let me just tell you what a great job he did.  He lived up to my expectations and now I love my new hair cut!  Capriece is so personable and easy to talk to.  It was as if I've always known him.  I immediately went home and recommended him to several of my friends.

I went to Patrick to have my hair straightened back in May and I am still so happy with my "new" hair. It is soft, shiny and very manageable.  I actually enjoy my hair and don't miss wrestling around with my curls one bit.  I also appreciate the extra few minutes of sleep I get each morning since I don't have to go through the hassle of attempting to control the curls.

The next test for me came last Saturday when I had to get my first haircut as a straight haired girl with DALE. I had curly hair for 30 years and believe me I have had some terrible haircuts in my life. I have ended up with more mullets and afros due to bad hairstylists than I care to admit. People just don't know how to cut curly hair so of course I have haircut anxiety. As I was walking to the salon I was reviewing everything I would say to DALE so I would ensure that I actually got the cut I wanted (you know the drill- I don't want too much cut off, no mullets, nothing from the 80s, no Edward Scissorhands, etc.)

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't have to go through my laundry list of what I don't want. DALE had great ideas of what he thought I should do with my hair and described what he was doing as he was cutting my hair. He also asked if I wanted a particular style and was actually listening to what I said. I also appreciated that he actually cut my hair the way he said he was going to. I walked out with a great, easy haircut. It is exactly what I wanted.

I should mention that the reason I wrote this review several days after the cut was because I wanted to make sure it was a haircut that I would be able to manage. I hate it when I leave the salon looking great and realize that I can't recreate the style. I am happy and relieved to say that I am even more happy with my hair than when I walked out the door of the salon.

I would highly recommend DALE (and PATRICK). Both are very skilled and very nice people. I will no longer dread trips to the salon.

I'm an air-dry and run kinda girl. The pineapple hair-do is my favorite. Up in a tie on the top of my head. Unstyled, messy, and out of my face.

Due to my no fuss attitude about hair,  I short-change my wonderful cuts. I butt-head part them, I put them up in ponytails, and I never blow-dry them. They sulk, all hidden and pulled up in my Walgreens hair ties.

It's not cool of me. I mean, do you ever watch those makeover shows, where house-wives get transformed after countless hours with the 'experts?'  They're all dolled up: fake smiles, fake tans, over-hairsprayed hair.....only to have the camera crew come back a couple of weeks later to check back on their progress....

...uh progress?

The camera guys are having trouble focussing on the women. Their fake teeth are out, in a jar beside their bed, they have day old mascara clumps in the corner of their eyes, their brown roots are showing, and they're  wearing two sizes too small leggings, paired with a Halloween sweater and Keds.

Because they didn't think it necessary, or weren't shown how to follow through and style themselves.

Lesson being:

It takes a cooperative effort between those that "make you over" and the subject  -( you, me, aka. the home stylist) -  to make a 'look' work. And work well.

I reached this simple epiphany with my hair, due to two important people --- Connie C --- and Capriece (wonder stylist)

If you haven't already seen Connie's recent pictures -  do!  Connie's new hair-style is amazing. The color and shape is exceptional. I messaged her right away about who she went to....

Next thing I know I'm making an appointment to see Capriece at the Patrick Even Salon.

Capriece is a phenomenal artist. He's been cutting his own hair since the age of 15. He puts unbelievable time and effort into each cut. He gave me a beautiful look, that only now I'm just discovering it's full potential. He spent well over an hour and a half, putting little touches in.

At first, only some quick-eyed few, noticed my new cut, but

...this past Tuesday, I finally decided I would part my hair differently, and even blow dry it. It was time to play around with the putty on my head. If just for my kids' sake, so they don't have to stare at picture after picture of me with the SAME damn hairstyle.

I received no end of compliments as a result.

And I have Capriece to thank. The skill and time that Capriece  put into my cut has forced me to strive to become a better 'hair' person. It has encouraged me to want to learn how to style my own hair...

I don't want to end up wearing ketchup stained Halloween sweaters later in life.

P.S. - I have now reviewed three differnt hairstylists with five stars. Each one I would recommend highly. And then some. I just really enjoy trying new stylists. A million props to: Capriece, Shelley (my "hair home"), and Dara Roberts.

P.P.S. Thank you Connie!

Who knew? I've lived in San Francisco for over 3 years now and I had yet to have a awesome, no even decent haircut the entire time.  I've been to Cinta, Red Door, OxenRose, BladeRunners, you name it I've been there!  Finally out of  "shear" desperation I logged onto Yelp found the first male reviewed salon and called them up.

This led me to Capriece. At first I thought Capriece was a she not a he but was quickly corrected by the very boisterous girl on the phone. Now Capriece didn't just cut my hair, he listened to everything I said had gone wrong at other salons, and believe me that took up most of the session.

By the time he was done I had the haircut I had only dreamed about except instead of being in a magazine it was actually MY HAIR!  Not only did he cut it perfectly but even now almost two weeks after I'm
