AMAZING!
I don't know why I waited for so long to try Patrick David's! We went last night, and everything was nearly perfect.
We started dinner with a blackberry mojito and decided to get the Prix Fixe dinner.
Well, they were all out of blackberries and had to go get more. While we were waiting, the offered to bring us a complimentary appetizer. We decided on the Lobster Pot-stickers- the best pot sticker I've had in memory. The wrapper was cooked to perfection, not too gummy, crisp and delicious. The filling wasn't overbearing and portioned out for a perfect bite.
Once the drinks got to us, they were sweet and tasty. We ordered the tomato basil soup en croute, then the panfriend sole with fingerling potatoes and Meyer lemon sauce. We couldn't decide on the desert, so we got both the tart apple cobbler and the chocolate souffle.
At this point I was so satisfied with my meal, stuffed and happy- I almost had to roll myself back home.
Flawless.
Okay, this was awesome. First we went here and they served us a bunch of bite-sized pastries. There were about 8 of them.
I ordered the Lemon Souffle Pancakes ($11). This was lemon goodness. They give you a raspberry sauce on the side, but really you don't need it. Actually on top of the three pancakes, they put a lemon & raspberry glaze, and you probably don't need this either. I didn't touch it and it looked really sweet. The pancakes alone were yummy.
My girlfriends ordered the Croque Monsiur. It looked good. I did have some of their hashbrowns. That was VERY tasty. But i did taste a bit of bacon fat =( . i bet thats what they fried it in to make it so wonderful.
Would totally go here again. Probably take my mom next time or something...
Wow, what a roller coaster of an experience we had at PD's on Saturday night.
We kind of came here on a whim. We wanted to go to Esin but they had no reservations available, so I quick went on line to Open table and made a reservation for PD's. We'd seen their menu and were intrigued.
As soon as I walked in the door I felt a pang of unease. I tried to push it away because I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. But just the way the restaurant was laid out, that you had to maneuver through tables in order to get to the hostess stand bothered me. Not to mention the screaming/running children. Not the restaurants fault, but annoying nonetheless.
We sat outside because it was just sweltering hot inside. It took a while for anyone to come get our orders. Finally the hostess came and explained to us that she would be taking our orders. I overheard multiple servers arguing with each other over tables, so it seemed like they were very short staffed that evening. Whatever. I don't care who takes my order as long as I get my food.
We got bread and butter to start which was very good. But when I asked for more butter (because I NEEDS my butter) I was told by a snot nosed waiter that they were "making more" and I would have to wait. I know my home made butter, and this did not taste home made. Then 2 minutes later I saw a bus boy walking to a table with a new dish of butter for someone else. WTF? When the hostess/waitress came back I asked her for butter which she brought me promptly. I think the other dude was lying about the butter sitch. Who does that?
We ordered the goat cheese egg rolls to start, which came rather quickly and I thought were delicious. My husband didn't like them much, but he doesn't love tangy goat cheese like I do. We're pretty tight, me and goat cheese.
Then we waited for our order. And waited. And waited.
Finally, I see our hostess walking towards us with THE look on her face. I knew what that look meant. It was something not good. Like they had run out of Lamb or butter fish. I wasn't sure which. She was so apologetic. Really, I almost thought she was going to cry. Apparently she isn't familiar with how the ordering process works (I Don't fault her, she's the hostess not a server) and forgot to "fire" our orders. So she submitted the appetizer, but not the entrees, but she ensured us it would be only a few more minutes until we received our dinner. I was o.k. with this, but my husband was starving and a little aggravated. She offered to comp his beer, our appetizer and give us free dessert. That made me very happy. Totally willing to let it go, as long as the food was good.
Our food finally came and my butterfish was to-die-for. Literally. If you had killed me after eating this meal, I would probably be peeved to be dead and all, but I would die with a very happy tummy. My husbands lamb was very good and tender but he felt it was under seasoned. Overall though, the food was A+ quality.
The kicker? Our hostess comes back out to get our dessert orders and gives us a gift certificate for a VERY generous amount and again apologizes and asks if we will give the restaurant another chance.
Uh...absolutely! I was satisfied with the comped desserts, to be quite honest. But I won't turn down a gift certificate, no sir ma'am.
The bread pudding was really quite tasty, but a little rich for my blood. For the record, that did not stop me from eating every single bite. I did restrain myself enough to not like the plate of the bourbon vanilla sauce. I am not a heathen!
So, I am giving PD's 3 stars for right now. 3 STRONG stars. When we go back to use our gift certificate, I will adjust my review accordingly. Even with the slow service hiccups, they MORE than made up for it with the customer service.
I thought this would be a really good restaurant because folks from Danville and Alamo always have something nice to say about it.
Joined them for dinner. Sadly, the menu posted online was not updated to reflect the current menu. My husband had the filet and I cant even remember what I had. It was completely forgettable. Server was super nice. The outdoor seating is three steps from the parking lot. So cars are literally pulling up - headlight to your table. I think I'll stop taking recommendations from the tri valley crowd - they obviously have never ventured outside of their own neighborhood to figure out what cuisine is.
I always have a hard time ordering something at a new restaurant because I want to try what is really good. So, I had their chicken Caesar salad and it was amazing. I also had their spinach salad and that was delicious too. I had their mi so fish. It was good, but pricey. My husband had the chicken sandwich and I thought it was okay. But their tripe fried fries were delicious.
I've had their food quite a few times, sometimes because of work and others for leisure. My absolute fave salad is their seared scallop endive salad with blue cheese and toasted candied cashews. The scallops are nicely seared and succulent. Memorable experiences - service is okay too.
Love to come here for lunch! Dinner is more pricey but still good!
Never had a bad meal or experience at this restaurant. This restaurant has the best Pri-fixe menu around town. Hubbie and I always get it when we come. My favorite appetizer is the scallops in the kaffir lime beurre blanc sauce. It was amazing! I had the chicken and Hubbie got the steak. The chicken was cooked just right and very juicy. The steak was well seasoned. Amazing desserts too! Overall, great food. Would give it 5 stars, but minus one for the service. The wait staff can be a little less snooty.
Went here for Sunday brunch. Great service !!! Given complementary bite-size pastries before meal was served. Lemon souffle pancakes are fabulous !!! Have a big screen TV in the bar area, for people who want to watch their favorite sporting event.
It was my aunt's birthday, so this is where we came to dinner to celebrate! I was super excited, because the last two visits I had here were amazing. We had a friendly waitress with a good sense of humor. She recommended a few things, which I'm always interested to hear.
We brought our own wine, however we ended up ordering some glasses off their menu. The waitress recommended one to us, and it went great with the meal.
I got their Sunset Special, which is a three course meal. I got a salad, with the tri-tip penne and the chocolate souffle. The whole meal was great! I enjoyed each course, however I'm not sure I'd get the penne dish again. It wasn't very memorable for me, even though it did taste good. Next, I might try the fish! The chocolate souffle was decadent. My family also got the cobbler, which was equally delicious!
This place is not your average restaurant to go to on a whim if you're on a tighter budget. But it'd sure be fun to go maybe for dessert and a glass of wine. Even though I love their lunch and dinner menu, my favorite is still brunch.

Went here for Brunch and had a nice time. The restaurant is small, located in the Livery. It feels cozy inside though with the small booths and white table cloths pendant lighting. The service was efficient and friendly. I ordered the eggs benedict (no big surprise there). It was a different take on the traditional - they served atop split open scones which was delicious, but extremely rich. The hollandaise sauce was excellent, very buttery, but they put too much on my plate and it just made the dish too rich. The scones just soaked up all the sauce and it was too heavy to finish. I left feeling a little sick because the dish was just so heavy and buttery. It would have been better in my opinion to serve it with less sauce...
Other people in my party had blueberry pancakes, which looked great but were a little undercooked in the middle. I saw another table order the french toast and that looked fabulous...
Overall we had a nice time but the food was just so rich! I would probably try this place again for brunch and order the benedict with the sauce on the side. As for going for dinner....not sure. The prices are considerably higher than our favorite place (peasant and the pear) and I am not sure if I want to risk it.
Bottom line: Cozy little place in the livery. A little more formal that most places, very rich food (not for those on a diet or watching their cholesterol), but with nice service and nice ambiance. I would recommend trying them for Brunch, a nice place to bring the in-laws.
Pretty solid place. I can always count on this place for brunch on Mother's Day or for Birthday's and such. Food is really good, always creative but taste wise spot on. Service is okay, servers are always nice and accommodating but sometimes you have to ask for bread. On Mother's Day they had a special selection of tiny doughnuts and cupcakes you receive complimentary as a starter. I've had the croque-monsieur and custard filled french toast with assorted berries on top which tastes just as good as it sounds....DELICIOUS, with fresh squeezed OJ to wash it all down.
I recommend eating outside because the inside ALWAYS smells like a wet sponge, not very appetizing and honestly slightly nauseating. But, I might just be being a little bitch about it.
My husband and I love this place. The chocolate souffle is AMAZING and the sunset special is a great way to try a lot of things for a very reasonable price. The food here never disappoints! No complaints!
the food is good here, but service on friday nights is veryyyy slow. the friday night jazz music outside is a nice touch, but i think it just adds to the chaos.
i ordered the tomato basil soup and the mongolian barbecue pork. the tomato soup was a huge portion (really too much to finish). it had a puff pastry on top of the soup bowl, which was a cool idea, but hard to eat once it fell into the soup. the pork chop was great. i love asian barbecue. the dish also came with bok choy and brie mashed potatoes. the mashed potatoes were super rich because of all the cheese. the bok choy was also hard to eat because they were so large, and the knife i was given was fairly dull.
we waited about 45 minutes for our salads/soups to arrive. we were at the restaurant for about 2 hours, mostly filled with wait time. patrick david's means well...but doesn't seem to satisfy.
It's been at least 7 years since I've eaten here, but went back for their fixed price menu. The value I think is good - for $26 you can pick soup or salad, a wide variety of entrees and any of their desserts. Otherwise, I think their menu is overpriced.
I chose the Tomato Basil Soup in Puff Pastry to start. I haven't ever seen this kind of presentation so I had to give it a shot. It was good and tasty but took a long time to cool down to eat.
I had the Dijon Mustard Chicken Breast as my entree. It was cooked perfectly but lost most of the flavor when I removed the skin (sorry I don't eat fat on purpose). The white truffle polenta was quite good though.
For dessert I had the Warm Chocolate Souffle. It was goey and chocolately and quite big for one person - and I can certainly put away the desserts.
So based on this, you may ask why only 2 stars? Well, because it was just okay, not spectacular. I remember this place being better. Perhaps they've slipped a bit or other restaurants have caught up/passed them by.
I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
I had the leaf lettuce salad with apples, pears, and candied walnuts and the butterfish served with sweet potato ravioli and sauteed spinach and mushrooms
Pros: The salad was refreshing. The candied walnuts were a nice touch
Cons: The service was extremely slow. Not to mention chaotic. I wish that my butterfish had been more charred. Didn't melt in my mouth like I had hoped. The ravioli skin was dry. I've had this dish in the past and was much more impressed - perhaps it was an off day!
While I left slightly disappointed I would consider coming back. Good selection
Based on 3 apps & 2 glasses of wine so take with a grain of sea salt:
Because I'm a wine snob, it frosts my backside to receive wine in a standard wine glass. When I order Pinot, I want it in a Pinot glass. If I order Cab, pour it into a Cab glass. For those of you who think it doesn't matter, you have no clue. It makes a huge difference! Chalone Pinot was okay. She had the Jade Mtn. Rhone Blend. Both in the same boring glass.
Apps: Lobster potstickers are good and the sauce is very good. 3-Sea Scallops in a nice presentation of shells is also dee-lish. Unfortuantely, my friend and I LOVE skinny fries. These were THICK with a dusting of sage which looked like pencil shavings. Skip the fries.
Dinner menu looked good so we'll try again.

Finally, went to Patrick David's for brunch with my friend this morning, and it was as good as I knew it was supposed to be. Service was great, food was awesome and still...a brunchy surprise or two. So as I suspected in my first review, I can now up this to 4 stars...here's why:
***Brunchy surprises: At the start of the meal, they bring still bring these cute little assortment of breakfast breads. Our tiny plate consisted of one cute lemon muffin with this soft delicious glaze, one brown sugar baby muffin, this tiny little twist donut and a little biscuit dabbed with honey and topped with dollop of butter.--Okay, so I only liked the lemon muffin and decided the others weren't worth the carbs, but who doesn't love tiny things that come with your meal.
***Improved ordering paired with Excellent Service: I say "paired" because this is so like, "what came first, the chicken or the egg". I don't know if it was the server helping me order better, or me ordering better, but I ordered great this time and the food was excellent. I had the chicken sandwich on focaccia with a side salad that had spring greens, gorgonzola, candied walnuts tossed with a raspberry vinagrette that was delicious.
***Cute bathroom: Okay, I know, that seems like a one-off, but I've said it a few times in other reviews and I'll say it again, I think little restaurants like this, The Peasant's Courtyard and Pizzeria Ventana are prime examples of doing the extra touches to improve the overall experience. This isn't the Cheesecake Factory's bathroom, by any means, but you can tell they put some thought into adding a little furniture, doing interesting paint/wall paper etc.
So my only disappointment was there were no fruit kebobs this time. Not that I needed any more food, but I really thought that was a cool, new touch when I was last here. Aside from that, great experience, and I'll be back sometime on a Sunday through Thursday to try their 3 course meal for $26!

Take the number of stars above for this restaurant, then subtract the number of stars for this restaurant. Because whatever it is, it's grossly overrated. Going through their minimalist menu - which hasn't changed in YEARS and is incredibly stale - to decide what you'd like takes time. Not because you can't decide what you'd like to have most, but because you can't decide what you'd be willing to eat at all. A bunch of mismatched, oddball concoctions, created during the heyday of yuppie food (read: appetizer-sized portions and lots of bitter and burnt tasting foofoo-sounding stuff); the menu has been untouched and uninspired for at least a decade.
The few booths they have are comfy and good for conversation, whether personal or business, but if you have the misfortune of being seated at one of their too-damn-close-for-comfort tables (comprising the other 80% of the restaurant) you will be sharing your conversation with the table next you, and continually being bumped by waitstaff or other patrons.
I occasionally get dragged here for a business lunch against my will, embracing the optimism that perhaps they'll have a special or a new item on the menu, and there's got to be something I'll like. The optimism is unfounded every single time. But it is telling - everyone who has invited me here (or worse, insisted we go after my protests) reveals themselves as an unabashed poseur who thinks eating at the the successful yuppie restaurant from the early/mid 90's makes them successful. Wrong! You're a poseur loser with no taste and no clue, and spending $25+/person at lunch on thimble-sized portions of bitter weeds and burnt-tasting "food" that I struggled to even order doesn't impress me.
If you get dragged here, look at the menu before being seated, claim severe allergic reactions to everything on it, and walk across the parking lot to Piatti or Forbes Mill. If you're unsuccessful in persuading your friends or business partners to go elsewhere, find new friends or business partners. You'll thank me later.
I signed up on Yelp just so write a review on this restaurant. That being said I was irately dissatisfied with the food. I got a gift card for my birthday to go here and made reservations a few days in advance. Upon getting there (I took my girlfriend) we were greeted by the hostess. We asked for a booth and she replied "I'm sorry we'll be really busy tonight so we can't seat you at a booth", at this time the restaurant was pretty much empty, so I said OK let's sit outside, she brought us to one particular table but it was a bit windy so I pointed to a table a few feat away that was closer to the building, she turned around and gave me a dirty look and said "sure".
Now onto the food, we were served bread, which I expected to be warm due to the caliber of price this restaurant was in, but for being cold the bread was "OK" at best. We then ordered an appetizer that was "breaded chicken" this was OK, but I've had better at Chili's. Onto the main coarse, I ordered a rib eye steak done medium, my girlfriend ordered chicken (I didn't try this). When I got my steak it was covered in some type of red sauce, looked OK, I cut it open to find it was well done (completely brown in the center), and had no flavor whatsoever. For a $32 dollar steak I expected a very good piece of savory meat, instead I got a sizzler grade steak (would take sizzler over this actually), with sauce on top.
I sent the steak back and said don't even bother to try and make it in medium as it was terrible in flavor to begin with.
To summarize, if you prefer paying high class prizes for less than sizzler grade food with slightly better service this would be a 5 star restaurant for you. For me this was absolutely terrible, especially considering this was a birthday gift. If your looking for good, go to Piatti's in the same shopping center.
The amount of butter they put into each dish puts Paula Dean to shame. I came for brunch and left with the taste of butter in my mouth that didn't leave me till dinner. Gross. My hollandaise sauce was separating before the plate even hit the table, and my friend's pancakes came out mushy and inedible.
The poor girl that served us was so nervous that we felt bad for asking her to return the glass of oj that was served with ice and tasted like Tang, or reminding her to refill our water (which we needed plenty of to wash down the taste of all that butter.)
Mr. David seems to be having an identity crisis. I'm confused as to what type of restaurant this place is supposed to be. Brunch offers new American fare, starters and small plates support the Asian/Pac Rim theme, and the entrees revert back to American. The quality of the food can't justify the prices, and the white linen tables and black vested staff are really deceiving as well. *shrug*
We went to Patrick Davids for lunch. I wanted to love it as much as I did years ago when the place was always packed & not yet expanded to its new size.
Three stars because it was just that - ok. Though a very quiet day lunch took a long time. We did take a long time to decide, but after that it took quite some time for the food to arrive. I also had my 2 year old & 3 month old with us ... not good for slow service! I ordered for my daughter 1st - right after sitting down & made it clear it was for her. The pasta arrived in a plate that was about 14 inches accross with a dip in the middle that the pasta fit into. The plate was so hot the server was carrying it w/ a towell & announced it was HOT! .... um ... this is for a 2 yr old ... I had to ask for a small plate.
I ordered the CA rolls - YUMMY and would give them 5 stars.
We also ordered the warm noodle salad - quite nice but the salad was room temp, not warm. Also ordered the chicken w/ the truffle polenta. My husband is a chef & his comments were the "truffle" was simply a drizzle of truffle oil. The plate was not hot, only the chicken was hot like they plated everything up & waited for the chicken to come out of the oven. I think it also had somthing to do with the fact that I saw our food sitting on the counter for 2 minutes before I waved to the server standing with his back to the counter that our food was sitting there. Mind you, my daughter was quite restless at this point & had been for some time.
I wish I could excuse it by saying they were busy, but there were only about 5 tables there.
The restaurant seem to lack supervision or anyone who really cares. It employees were people just going about their day w/ out any passion for what they were doing. Each request was met with, "Oh, sure." Like we were reminding them of somthing they forgot. For an indepedant restaurant, I find that surprising.
We came here for our Anniversary and requested ahead of time to seat us away from intimate parties, since we have two children. They had a table ready for us with curtains that enclosed most of our table, so we totally felt at ease having the kids with us. Though it took a long time to get through all the dinner courses, the wait was worth it because the food was really good! It was a nice surprise to find that the cuisine really was more Asian-Fusion than American. We had goat-cheese spring rolls and lobster pot stickers for appetizers that were small in quantity but delicious. For main entrees, we had the Hawaiian Butterfish, Sea Scallops and Rack of Lamb. My kids had Kobe Burgers and Chicken Strips. Their wine list was average and they had a full bar. My only disappointment was that they didn't do anything special to acknowledge our special occasion. But, they did treat our kids really well and served their food first, so that made up for it!
On a Tuesday night they were packed which is always a good sign, but once we got our table the service was immediately suspect. 10 minutes before we got water..... another 10 before our waitress came to talk to us. The service remained questionable for the rest of the night - but the food was excellent and worth the trip.
We decided to enjoy the small plates for sharing..... kobe sliders were spot on. Moist, juicy and flavorful. The lobster potstickers were outstanding with a great sauce. Shrimp and lobster tempura with a spicy aioli was really good and the fries with sage and rosemary were delicious.
I'd go back because there is a chance she won't be our server again.
5/24/09 Went here the other nite. And I'm convinced that their caesar salad is the best in the bay area. I love the quantitiy too!

This place is not that good. It's not even good.
I know the minimalist thing is in, but minimal flavor, minimal quantity and minimal substance is not what they meant, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick David! Minimalist means you hang a light from the bare ceiling without a bunch of ceiling tiles. It means you have bare concrete on the floor with a nice shiny polish. It does not mean you bake dough and spray a little red on it and call it food.
People, go to Forbes Mill across the plaza, hell, go to Gondola's across the street. Double hell, go to McDonald's down the street.
One saving grace, they got my diet coke right.
My lunch here was FABULOUS. A bit pricey, but delicious. The restaurant itself feels quite cramped and seems to be on the small side. Our server was not the greatest. I kept wanting to tell him to project his voice, because he was mumbling and speaking low and it was hard to hear him above the busy buzz of the restaurant. He was actually kind of puzzling.
We never had an empty glass of iced tea, though, which is good.
We had the lobster potstickers as the appetizer and we each had the dungeness crab louie. OH YUMMY. Both were delicious, beautifully prepared and satisfying. It is obvious that they only use the freshest ingredients.
So, back to the service, it was a bit on the slow side, but I wasn't in any particular rush since I was enjoying a nice meal with my mother. However, when our dishes were cleared, our server came back and I swear this is what I heard him say as he handed us our dessert menus 'This is my second day of training. Here are your dessert menus' and I was looking at him, waiting to hear what was coming next. I was expecting 'so I want to give you a free dessert' or 'please let me know if there is something I can improve' or something along those lines, but then he saw me staring at him and just repeated 'these are your dessert menus' and walked away.........
All I could think was, of what pertinence is it to me that this is your second day of training???? My mom didn't even understand what he was saying at all.
Other than the bizarre server, I can't wait to take my hubby there for his birthday next week. They had this mango dessert that just sounded divine....
and one of these days I want to get there between 5-6pm during the week because they have a 3 course prix fixe menu for $29!!! Talk about a deal!!
Also, I want to go to Costco and get the discounted gift certificate they sell for this restaurant... I think it's $80 for a $100 gc or something to that effect....
Update from dinner on 5/15:
Went here for dinner last night and the service was 5 star!!!! I'm guessing that the server I had during my lunch experience was an exception to the norm. The food was fabulous just like it was for lunch. The hubs and I shared the molten lava chocolate cake with malt ice cream for dessert and devoured it. I had the miso butterfish and it was cooked perfectly. The hubby's pork chop was well cooked and the portion was HUGE. I would consider this a truly high-end gem for the local area. It costs a bit more than most of the other 'nicer' restaurants in the area, but they make it worth the extra couple of dollars with the intimate setting, good service and quality food.
Service is good. Food is very good. Ambiance is pleasant.
The Livery & Mercantile is probably the most charming "strip mall" in Danville, so if the weather is good, try eating outside. It feels a bit like Carmel Valley.
My wife and I really enjoy the chicken with truffled polenta. Heck, the polenta is our favorite item on the menu.
The chocolate souffle is really yummy. Make sure to place the order when you order dinner.
I agree with others that this place does need some variety on the menu. I would come more often if the menu was overhauled or there were frequent specials.
We went here thinking it would be a nice sandwich cafe, and it turned out to be hella ritzy and stuff. I felt pretty darn poor with all the high falutin' people walking around with their mini-dogs and bling-bling. Around the corner was a car collector store with ferrari and porsche jackets. BMW was on the poor end there too.
Anyway, we went there, and although I felt a little out of place, the food was good and the service was great as well. The staff welcomed us po' folks (just kidding - we're just regular folks) with open arms and were very nice. Prices were a little high for lunch, but it is an upscale place so should be expected. Had the puff pastry tomato soup was delicious although could've used more basil (my absolutely fav tomato soup is Max's in SF). Puff Pastry was different and fun to eat in the soup.
No kid's meal though, so NOT kid-friendly. They were really nice to the kids though, so I can't fault them for this.
In fact I think we ordered her a Sprite, and it looked like they charged per glass on that one? Also had a bite of DH's small crab louie - pretty tasty and a little different. DH had the sliced mongolian pork sandwich with maui onion stack. He said the sandwich was awesome and I tried the maui onions - totally addictive. I had the fish of the day sandwich and fries which I split with my daughter. Bread on sandwich was so soft and buttery. Salmon was good although small. Fries were ok although I prefer larger fries that are really crispy. Didn't have dessert.
I wish they had some additional sandwich items on their menu. Had the goat cheese spring roll appetizer. Man, I could've ate 20 of them, but they only give you 2 sliced in half (and they are lumpia sized). They should adjust that to include more or I'd have to order one just for me. Also, bread basket has some great walnut bread (olive bread not too big on).
Anyway, food was great and the people there were fantastic.
I had passed PD's one evening when taking my daughter and boyfriend to Cold Stone and decided it looked too shi shi for her, but great for adults. So...when a friend of mine was coming to Danville one afternoon before his birthday, I decided this was the place to check out (especially due to high prices, I thought lunch would be a better option to "test drive". Anyway, here it goes....
We ordered-me:the beet salad with grapefruit, He: some Kobe beef dish with garbanzo bean fries. We decided to share some tomato bisque with puff pastry (ingenious idea we thought) and for me, iced tea.
Service was good, but not great. I drink tea like a fish and I only had 2 glasses. The bread selection was decent and my salad, very small for the price, but PHENOMENAL. My friend really liked his beef dish and it looked fabulous. The only thing that wasn't great was the tomato bisque. The soup itself was tasty, but the puff pastry on top was not easy to eat and didn't crush into the soup like I would have expected. Plus the soup was super hot (yes, I know, it is how soup should be), but the puff pastry made it so the temperature never cooled enough to eat it quickly enough before our main meal.
All in all, I liked this place. I will come back...this time though, with my boyfriend for dinner....
If only they had a Patrick David on-demand feature on my microwave.
Superb preparation and quality in a charming location. Much like the boutiques it is surrounded by, expect to shell out a bit for your meal. Have fun and nosh on several things - standouts include their lobster potstickers, crispy scallopsand beet tartare although my counterparts usually jump towards the sweets. Killer starters as a whole, but my dinner favorites include the Barbequed Mongolian Pork Chop
(with Mashed Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetable) and the Macadamia Nut Encrusted Salmon (over Couscous, Shiitake Mushrooms, Asparagus, Fava Beans & Orange Herb Sauce).
Oh and the bar. Fun stuff to match the food.
In the Valley, Patrick David is especially known for its catering and special event services. The quality matches the restaurant visit!
this is one of my mom's favorite places to eat out and she wanted to treat me for lunch so i had to take her up on it. i drove her into danville in my new ride so she could experience the luxury of my honda pilot. the shopping center was packed with cars everywhere but at lunchtime the restaurant was pretty slow overall. you can really see the how the economy has affected many places.
they started us out with a basket of freshly baked breads and a sweet creamy butter spread. the olive and walnut bread were my favorites, it's dangerous with all that bread before a meal as i can go to town and stuff myself before i even get my meal. we decided to start with the lobster potstickers as it was the recommendation from our server. oh my goodness! why only 2 potstickers per order? these things were the best part of the meal. i almost wish my mom wasn't with me so i could have the entire thing to myself! they were perfectly cooked with large pieces of lobster inside and soft and crunchy on the outside. the sauces complimented them so well. they were served with a lime buerre blanc and sweet chile sauce. the sauces were so darn good we finished it up with the bread. we pretty much licked that plate clean.
my mom had the salmon special for her lunch which was roasted and served with a champagne sauce and an asparagus risotto. she had me try her salmon and risotto and it was so good. everything was cooked to perfection and she was happy with what she had ordered. i was very pleased with my meal! i had the bbq chicken on a corn tamale pancake with sour cream and guacamole. the chicken was so tender and shredded with caramelized onions. the bbq sauce was sweet yet had a very nice spice. the corn pancake was delicious! it was so fluffy yet crispy on the edges and filled with so much fresh sweet corn. i would definitely order this again on my next visit.
i'm so glad my mom finally took me to patrick david's for lunch. i will definitely come back as the food was to die for and the service was as good as it gets. unfortunately i don't remember our servers name but he was tall with dark curly hair and sporting some silver. everyone there was very friendly from the hostess to the busser and even the other servers were smiling at us. i would say this is my new favorite lunch spot and i look forward to coming back soon. the only downside i noticed was the menu was different from the menu online so don't get your hopes up. with any changes they make they definitely make up for it with the final menu. just remember to pace yourself on the bread because the portions are pretty good size and that bread is way too tempting.
The best thing about Patrick David's is the plasma screen tv in the bar, given this, I can drag my boyfriend away from Monday night football and go out to dinner and he still gets to watch the game.
Although, if you're going to eat here, I would probably recommend brunch or lunch b/c the entree's are very hit and miss. Also, it can be very challenging to get a reservation, but that's only because they only have 15 tables. Stick to mellow wine picks, the older vintages are more or less over the hill from my experience.
Went there for Mother's Day (5/10/09) at 12:45pm. Our reservation table (through http://OpenTable.com) was not ready for our party of 6. Table took about 20 minutes. Complimentry pastries- mini muffins, mini creme puffs, mini bearclaw, etc. were delicious. Service was a bit slow. Crab omlette was excellent; came with a side of potatoes that were really tasty! $29 a person including mimosas and coffee.
Service is very good. The food was good. As others have said, the chocolate souffle was really good. I found it the best part of the meal.
We had the lobster potstickers which were tasty, but the wrap was pretty darn chewy. The spinach salad was delicious...lots of smokey flavor from the bacon and complimented by candied pecans.
My ribeye steak was very tasty and they had no problem with my request for a substitution for the creamed spinach. DH had the rack of lamb which he enjoyed. The artichoke risotto, however, was inedible.
My girlfriends and I had brunch here after a relaxing pedicure at Pinkie's. We had reservations so we were seated right away upon arrival. Our server was very upbeat and he had such a winning smile. He allowed ample time for us to decide what we wanted and in the meantime, he served us our waters with lemon along with a basket of assorted mini muffins.
We each placed our orders which we shared amongst us. For starters we had the lobster potstickers. Very delicious! But one dish only serves two potstickers (there were three of us). Our server didn't explain this to us so the waiter who brought out the plate asked if we wanted another of it. We said yes, had one each and divided the fourth into three. The sauce was sweet and yummy.
I ordered the french toast brioche topped with whipped cream and berries. The best part is cutting into the toast- there's a creamy custard surprise inside. I dabbed their special honeycomb butter on top and drizzled maple syrup eversolightly. It was amazing! I shared with Arlene and Michelle who thought it was fantastic as well.
Arlene had the lemon souffle pancakes. It was delicious! It reminded us of the lemon curd from Lisa's Tea Treasures. Hers was topped with berries, too. It was sweet yet tart, a mouth-watering combination.
Michelle had the dungeness crab omelet with avocado and cheese, topped with a tomato basil cream. It was served with crispy, seasoned potatoes. Very filling and so deelish!!! Yum!
The service was superb. The busboy kept filling our glasses of water and iced tea. I've only taken a couple sips of water, but here comes the server with his pitcher of water making sure my glass was filled to the rim. One thing for sure, you will NOT go thirsty here! Since my glass was always full, I drank and drank so I made several trips to the restroom. Their lavatory was clean and nicely decorated. I even stopped to smell the (real) red roses on top of the counter. It was a charming touch.
After paying our bill, we stayed awhile to chit chat some more. We appreciated the fact that nobody bothered or asked us to leave. We had a good time....definitely made my week being with my close friends.
We have been going to Patrick David's for many years. Their tapas plates are a special treat. While Patrick needs to update his menu periodically, we have seldom (if ever) had a weak meal. Sitting at the bar is fun for conversation and meeting new friends. The bar service can be spotty however, as the bar tender (William) oftens spend more time on his cell phone than he does handling customer's orders.
I have always found the table service to be excellent. Ask for Dorie or Gerry and you won't be disappointed. While the chocolate souffle is always a highlight, they have seasonal salads and entrees that are terrific. The corn salad is a winner, and the Nieman Ranch pork chop is always good. I have had the salmon entree prepared various ways, and have never been disappointed. Give Patrick David's a shot, and you will be quite satisfied.
We have been highly disappointed. We went for lunch after hearing raving reviews about this place. The service was slow, the outdoor area was not really cosy. The waiter could not explain the menu nor the wine list. Many items on the menu/wine list were running out. The table next to us ordered a salad with scallops that arrived without scallops (!), another table had the plate returned to the kitchen. Our dishes bathed in butter/cream and came in small portions for the price tag. Considering all this, we skipped dessert and did not leave a tip.
This is a great neighborhood place! I like to go here sometimes after work for a cocktail and unwinding with a friend. Sit at the bar and order their mini-burgers, along with an order of their giant fries...the cocktails are great too...mmmmm very delicious. The patrons are friendly and the ambiance is relaxed but upscale at the same time. I like brunch here too.
I came back here this week and sat at the bar. It was so much fun and the food and wine were fabulous. I will definitely be back ... for the experience and the sushi and kobe beef sliders (yum!)
Love this place. I accidentally found it when I moved to Danville and it was meant to be. You do need reservations as it is not that big. But in the summer, it's great to get a table outside and they do have heat lamps. I am allergic to shellfish and they have been able to make the sushi without crab. It is so unique the way they roll it into a cucumber and not seaweed. It's definitely unique. My friends love the lobster pot stickers.
The service is great and the food is excellent. I think I need to check a brunch there next as I usually go for dinner.
I took some colleagues from work who came to visit and they just loved it. It's a great place to meet friends for dinner.
