So a vietnamese, mexican and a french walk into a bar... jk
Seriously, only in SF would these three people from all over the world would come together on Fillmo' of all places and open a bakery!
Everything they make here is super delicious! Macroons are light and not all coconut but with marsipan, shortbread cookies are buttery/flaky, petite princess cake is delicate and refreshing, but a little too sweet for me.  Everything here is well above average and must be experienced.
Don't take my word for it, try it out yourself!

decor and layout could be improved if they wanted a nicer seating area and would like to attract more customers... my 2 pennies

The very best macarons this site of the bank - NOT!

I have no problem paying exorbitant sums of money for macarons, but only if it's worth it. This place definitely isn't.

My husband said he heard good things about the chef, that he has exacting standards, etc., so I went there this past Sunday and what I saw were shelves that were empty, save a couple of slices of tarts, boxed macarons, and a whole princess cake.

When I ate one at the car, I was sadly disappointed that the center was hard, rock hard! Hmm, over-freezing for one could cause this.

Sad, but please do better with your quality control. Otherwise, don't bother staying open in San Francisco, as we have very high standards here, and blah just isn't good enough.

eehh ...

delightful french treats! one of the main reasons i love living in sf is that it's literally 7x7, and lucky for me, pac heights is just the next block away ...

i call myself a foodie, he calls me a diner ... it's true though ... it's all about your overall experience ... if the owners are snooty, there's a high chance i don't return ... and they could seriously make bank by the way i crave my pastries ... :)

i heart pastries ... and it's super good when they're super flaky and super fresh ... i don't lie and won't lie, but i could tell some were probably leftovers from the day before ...  if the owners were a bit nicer, and smiling a bit, then it would've been a better experience ... a total dejavu from paris where all the french folks had a stick up their beeee-hinds ...

PS. cash only

This is a great bakery for croissants and other french pastries. The pastries are buttery light and tasty. Their bakery displays are not as savory looking as Bay bread's though. And I feel like the place and staff are a bit unkempt. But the pastries are a bit more authentic than Bay Bread.

I came across Patisserie Delanghe after searching for the "best" eclair in San Francisco for my mother for Mother's Day. After reading all these reviews about how wonderful and delightful all the pastries are, I had to make a special trip and try this place.

Went there after 4, found parking easily, and ultimately purchased 4 eclairs (2 mini, 2 regular....don't ask me why I thought the mini ones would taste differently from the regular sized ones), a butter croissant, and a fruit tart.

Here's the verdict: the eclairs were fantastic....the custard had perfect consistency and just the right amount of sweetness, the puff pastry was soft and yet had a sense of flaky crispiness the instant the eclair hit the lips, and the chocolate topped off a sensational dessert with its subtly sweet flavor. I was just as impressed with the butter croissant that if my eyes weren't open when eating I would have believed the pastry was oozing with butter. My only regret is that I do not yet know how these pastries taste when freshly made in the morning, a dilemma that will be taken care of soon. As for the fruit tart, which historically has been my weak spot, I absolutely love it. Enough said, back to eating....

I'm addicted to their eclairs they really are the best in the city. I'm also a fan of their short bread cookies so flaky and buttery yet has the perfect crunch, the macaroons are made by angels, the blueberry scones are so tasty that they bring a smile to my face every Sunday morning, these babies are folded ever so gently with currants and topped with a dollop of custard with blueberries. Yumm is it Sunday yet?

the raspberry crunch things are just as delightful.. and the choco cookies were awesome too.. those creampuffs are a mouthful of heaven..
even though the quiche was kinda gross.. the eclair and other dainty delightfuls make up for it!!

i would go here everyday if my wallet was deep enough..

Two parts to this review. First, the pastries are phenominal. I've had numerous things here...breakfast and otherwise...and there's not been one thing that I don't like. The pastries are unbelievably flaky (almost messy) and light. Apple Turnover and Raspberry Crisp are my faves.

Unfortunately, the owner is an ASSHOLE. Real short, rude, unfriendly. I've been in here many times and his wife is tolerable, but the dude is a prick. I was there last Sunday and there was one croissant that wasn't listed. The lady helping me asked him what it was and you would've thought she offended him. He kinda threw down his bowl and yelled 'DAMMIT. IT'S HAZELNUT, GOD DAMMIT".

Seriously, the lady just asked what it was and it wasn't listed. Holy jesus...relax man! Is that how the French are? I've heard stories, but never experienced anything like that before.

Yes, another long and winding review.  The upshot is, this is an excellent place to score some truly French baked treats.  It's a husband and wife owned bakery.

Every time you go to a chain, God kills a kitten and a small indie business.  So please patronise your local family-run establishments before the American retail experience becomes one big, bland, homogenised landscape.

It was Easter this past Sunday.  It brings to mind all the years I flew back to Montreal to visit my grandparents in Pointe Saint Charles.  The snow would just start to melt and the ice on the Saint Laurence would crumble and flow out to sea.

Grandma and I would take the bus to Wellington Street to get fresh baked pastries for Easter.  Cream puffs, mille-feuilles, hot cross buns, cookies and few Cadbury creme eggs.

It's been years since I tasted anything even remotely as good as the bakeries of Montreal.  Patisserie Delanghe brought those memories flowing back with sharp clarity.  It was hard for me not to get emotional.  I wasn't prepared for how good their caramel cream puffs would be, or the marble pound cake, soft almond cookies, and vanilla chocolate covered cake.

For $16.00 we bought enough delights to feed 4 people.  Each crumb was worth worth every cent and every sensory footstep down the memory lane that led to my grandma.

I also wasn't prepared for Madame Delanghe's kind and graceful nature when I asked her what part of France she was from.  She's from the Loire Valley region.  She asked why I was interested and I said it was because I'm studying wine making and am reading a lot about the wines of France.

So she got out a business card and wrote down her favourite varietals on the back and handed it to me.  I can't wait to try the wines of Loire!

This bakery is a place that warms my soul.  I will be back, many times.  I hope you visit here too.

Environmental Note:  As of 6/27/07 inspection, this establishment scored a 79 with 1 high risk, 3 moderate risk, and 7 low risk violations.  F*ck it.  This place is too good.  I'm going to forget I even read the report.

An old school French pastry shop that (duh!) specializes in cakes and not breads.  During the day you'll see European grandmas come in here for cake and coffee, old neighborhood regulars, as well as urban hipsters.

I highly recommend the Princess cake (traditional Swedish).  Very light and yummy, and pretty authentic as well.  If you like marzipan you definitely need to try this.

The only downside is that if you want to eat here, there are only 2 tables.  However, the guy who runs the place is very pleasant.  After you're done you tell him what you had and he rings up the bill.

Bike Parking: Designated bike rack in front on Fillmore St.

I hate to be the only detractor but 1) the places smelled a bit damp, 2) the lady used her hands (instead of paper or gloves) to get the food out of the case (after touching money), which I'm pretty sure lead to 3) my husband having serious diarrhea.

I will change the rating of the doctor says different (because it was yummy) but those things are not okay with me.

Mmm, another day, another croissant! Delanghe's raspberry croissant ($2.50) is a mix of buttery cookie AND pastry. Toasted, sliced almonds top a golden crust (no powdered sugar). The raspberry filling is tart but not overwhelmingly so. Tastes better if you reheat in the oven at home.

Surprisingly bad customer service.  I was looking for a french cheesecake, preferably one with neufchatel.  I figured a "patisserie" would have it.  When i asked the gentleman if they had cheesecake, all i got was "no, no cheesecake" in a stern manner.  No, recommendations, no suggestions for other desserts.  He completely turned me down.  Made me feel like he could care less about my business. Which is funny because he talked up a storm with the previous customer.
I would've tried something else in his selection, which looked great I might add, if he hadn't been so denying.

How I lived a mere 8 blocks from this place and never knew it was there for 12 years is beyond me.  I'm getting fat making up for all the lost time.  I'm within walkies of two very good patisseries, which is a good thing since Patisserie Delanghe does not bake baguette.  But the cookies, pastries and cakes, oh my!  Princess Cake is lovely with the most delicate marzipan, the fruit tarts and lovely (all that wonderful pastry creme) and the palmiers are to die for.  The brioche and croissant are great.  Worth a visit to stop in at one of the little tables, but even better to swing by and bring home a load of goodies to indulge in at home.  It's mid-range pricey, but it's on lover Fillmore, so whaddaya expect, worth every cent as everything is made fresh, with love and good ingredients.

real, honest to goodness GATEAUX!

this patisserie makes all sorts of sweet goodness that are dear to my heart: eclairs, cream puffs, tarts, almond cookies, croissants and cakes galore.

one day out of my weekend, i'm usually here to check out the fresh, out-of-the-oven ham and cheese croissants, which are quite honestly, the best in the city. petite, with a good amount of cheese and ham and sprinkled with some dried provencal herbs on top for panache, i adore these croissants as much as i do the baguettes at the boulangerie down the street and the croque monsieurs at tartine bakery.

today, they were out of my faves so i opted for the nice and delicate butter croissants and a slice of their quiche lorraine for which i will save for dinner with a spring salad and a glass of wine.

oh, to be alive on warms days in san francisco and eating such glorious pastries!

from time to time we'll pop in here and grab some of their delicious baked goods, it's perfect if your heading off to an engagement of some sort or if you want a treat for later. i love the old school look of their tiny pink boxes...it makes you feel like your in the 50's or something. i recommend the petit fours and cream puffs! i'm sure all of their stuff is really good, but this is what we specifically go there for. next time your on fillmore, don't go to the bigger places, try this place, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

PROPER CROISSANTS!!!!!!

I was so excited to get a good croissant - finally.  After asking all over and being served  soggy lumps of bread masquerading (poorly) as croissants, I was beginning to doubt SF's reputation for good food.  Oh to have a source for yummy, flaky, light proper croissants!!!

minus one for dubious cleanliness - I have to say Valerie F. might have something :-(  But squemish as I am, I just ignore it because the pastries and cakes are so great!

My friend (and what a good friend she is!) brought over mini eclairs from this bakery. OOOOHHHH. They are so amazing. Yummy custard-y inside (but not eggy), pastry with the perfect loft to it, and divine chocolate glaze to top it off.  The miniature size is so cute.

I must go here and try more items!

This is a silly way to start a review, but last night I watched that old Snow Patrol music video for "Open Your Eyes," the one where the camera races through the streets of Paris at dawn.  I decided, this morning, to try to simulate that exhilarating feeling, by going for a fast run around the neighborhood with that song playing on repeat, and treating myself at the end with a trip to this cute little French patisserie.  The run part was not so successful; it turns out that you pretty much have to sprint the entire way to simulate the sensation of racing in a car, and even that is less than satisfactory.

The patisserie part, however, was just as I'd hoped.  This place bakes its own breads and pastries every morning, and opens its doors pretty darn early for an SF establishment (I arrived at 7:15).  Everything looked delish, but I ultimately decided on a pain au chocolat (to eat there) and a brioche (for later).  And man, was that pain au chocolat amazing!  It was still warm, the pastry part was just buttery and flaky enough to crumble a bit around my lips as I bit into it, and the chocolate started to melt immediately in my mouth.

This place doesn't look Parisian, but the breads certainly taste like it.  I walked home, ridiculously happy for such an early hour, and looking forward to devouring that brioche for lunch.

I get all verklempt when I see this place. I've been coming here for at least 20 years. No kidding. And this last time I went back was after a very long separation. It was like seeing a long lost friend... the smell of the butter, the gleam of the florentines... (sniffle) I used to drive an hour to get here and then drive back to San Jose with my bag full of goodies.

They made a beautiful tower of creme puffs for my friend's birthday and I was sooooo happy to get a picture of the tower and the chef, that I posted it here. Good luck getting parking though. You're best off taking the 22 Filmore and then window shopping the street with your goodies in hand.

In high school the pops and I would stop here for pastries and coffee on the way to school.  I'd always order the same thing:  a double non-fat latte and a cream cheese pastry.  Don't let the blah name fool you!  The pastry chef/owner once worked at Buckingham Palace.  We'd be there as everything was coming out of the oven.  I can still imagine the sweet smell filling the Fillmore shop. MMMMMMMMM....haven't visited in years but every time I drive by it brings a warm smile to my face.

I miss being 14...able to eat pastries every day!

If I had to walk by this place on my way to work, I could easily see myself falling into a morning habit of coffee and a brioche or croissant, both of which are unimpeachable in their flaky, buttery, authentic French goodness.  Didn't try any of the fancy cakes and stuff, although if any of west-siders like the Princess cake here you should note that Ambrosia Bakery has the same thing.  This is mostly a to-go place; decor is minimal (but mellow, thanks to the orange walls) and there are 2 tiny tables by the window.

I love this place.  Love it.  Not because it is terribly cute or inviting inside (it's not), but because everything I've had here has been perfect.  It's a neighborhood treasure that, I may selfishly hope, maintains its position under the radar screen.  This is a patisserie, and the business here is pastries and desserts.  I can highly recommend just about anything, from the croissants, macaroons, and yes, that green-frostinged piece de la resistance, princess cake.  My next venture will be to have a custom cake produced within these walls.  After which, of course, I will report back with the latest.

The pastries here are so good, and are different than the Boulangerie on Pine.  These seem a little more authentically French, and they have these almond raspberry croissants that are absolutely delicious!   I prefer the macaroons and madelines at Boulangerie, but the cakes here are better.

The woman who works behind the counter is also very nice.

A conversation regarding ordering a pieces montees.

"These photos of pieces montees look great but do you suppose he could put less of the hairy spun caramel on?"

"Perhaps"

"And does he have any flavours other than vanilla for the cream?  Could he also put some berries on the base?  I also like the idea of crystallised violets sprinkled around the whole thing."

"Miss, the chef will decide how to prepare the cake.  Now, would you like to order or not?"

We ordered.  2 weeks later we received the most outstanding cream puff pastry fantasia.  Ever.

Forget about Tartine.  Patisserie Delanghe is the real deal.  Attitude and all.

Swedish Princess cake. That's how I judge every European bakery. How is the marizpan .. how is the whipped cream in the middle?

And Delanghe's princess cake was good! Not quite as pretty as Schubert's on Clement... but very delicious!  It's not as commercialized as Schubert's either. This place is owned by a French couple who's also there all day. It's cozy... very neighborhood-y and totally endearing... I love it!

After visiting the optometrist across the street, a certain signage of Patisserie caught my eye.
I went in and was greeted by the nice lady behind the counter. I looked around and my eyes shifted to the Princess Cake (green mazripan icing, white cake with cream and cherry syrup filling). I ordered a slice of that to go and $1 (3 pcs) of Almond camaroons.
FYI, they only accept cash and check. No credit cards. It was a delicious treat, bf loved the Princess cake, fresh, fluffy, light and just heavenly! :)

Long-time fan of this place! Great palmiers, danishes, pastries, and macaroons. Their veggie open face sandwiches are damn good and perfectly portioned. And I appreciate that they have soy milk.
