Given that a good bakery is so hard to find in the LA area, this was a real find.

It's not an average bakery.  This is a Japanese style French bakery.  So everything is miniaturized and perfectly presented.  They have a wide array of small cakes, and you can get them in larger sizes.  There are also different breads and rolls. The service is great just like you'd expect from a Japanese establishment. The staff members even say goodbye in unison when you leave!

You probably know what I mean when I say that a good bakery with high quality food products, excellent service, great tasting food, and consistency is hard to find.  This takes the cake though.  The only complaint you might have (if you're cheap like me) is that the prices are a little high, but what you get is well worth it.

Patisserie Chantilly has been on my radar for a long time, but it's quite far, so I never really found excuse to go visit till today! Because grandparent's VERY IMPORTANT birthday is coming up, and I thought I would get a SPECIAL cake, so I went on a cake-sampling mission....

the BEST excuse ever! :D

We tried,

Château Chantilly - rare cheesecake with hidden fresh pineapple, ingeniously delicious! I would prefer this over regular cheesecake anyday :P

Noix - the perfect anytime chiffon roll slice to pair with tea.

Choux au Marron - yum, but somehow I thought it'd impress me more with its appearance :P I heart the chunky chestnut!

Lavender Earl Grey macaron - I really thought it was close to perfection though smaller than the typical macaron. The texture and surface were very smooth and the crust was thin yet held the soft cookie layer safely underneath. My only complain would be for the gel-filling, slightly too strong/sweet to my taste.

Choux aux Sésames - my absolute FAVORITE out of everything tried there :) I think I can eat a dozen at once  w/o a problem :P but have to curb my appetite,,so fresh and heavenly!  It made me miss the black sesame ice cream bar I had when I was in Japan :( :( :(

conclusion: they've mastered the making of chantilly cream :) quite enchanting!

4.5 stars, I thought the inside environment could be more inviting and classy?

You know how some bakeries out there makes a dozen different cakes and pastries and all just taste mediocre at best? Patisserie Chantilly has a huge variety and everything tastes excellent! My favorites are the black sesame cream puff, the pudding, and Mont Blanc, and the strawberry shortcake.

JONASAPPROVED!

This place is the BEST patisserie in town!  We always make reservations on special occation like birthday, christmas and other occations.  The service is great as their sweets!

It is a bit far and kind a hideaway, but you should go!

I have got the Cream Puff, the Mont Blanc, Chcololate Tart and some little
macaron

I went there really late and they ran out of Sesame Cream Puffs, so we bought some chocolate cream puffs and they were very good.  Very good texture.  The mont blanc is also good.  I love Japanese cake as they are not as sweet and just the right amount.  This is defintely a Japanese cake shop.

For dessert, the cake is pricey but the quality is ok for that price.

Ive been looking forward to checking this place out for the longest time. All the pastries looked so delicious and elegant (reason for 2 stars) I kept changing my mind on what to buy. I would've dropped about 20 bucks here if it wasn't for their disappointing service. When I came in there were only 3 customers including me and I saw about 3 or 4 workers walking in and out of the back kitchen. I recieved no recognition for even being there. Not one look. They even acknowledged the person who came after me wtf! Maybe I'll give this place another try someday. But for now, I'll take my sweet tooth and love for fancy pastries elsewhere.

I'm beginning to think that the more expensive and sophisticated a dessert is, the less impressed i am with the flavors!!! i guess i will always be a girl who loves her simple and yummy desserts the best!!!

like a couple of other asian patisseries i have tried, they have really really beautiful cakes and pastries here. everything is carefully crafted and they have interesting flavors. The first thing that caught my eye was this pink round mound with strawberries on top. i first thought-- no, is it a yummy mochi cake like the one at JJ's?. it turns out it was a mousse cake, but we still got one anyways cuz it was pretty in pink.
(it's the mont fraise). everything else looked really good, so it was hard to decide, but i went with my gut and got the Othello which was a black and white cake with sesame. i am not sure what compelled me to get the sesame cake- cuz although i clearly love tons of sesame in my ramen, i wasn't sure if i would like it in my cake!. but i do recall a japanese treat that's shaped like an egg that has sesame flavor inside- which i do like. So the othello was interesting. i dont' know if i have some weird obsession with black and white stuff. Black and white cookies, black and white cupcakes... The bottom half of the cake was the "black" bitter chocolate cake- moist and spongy. and the top half was a light white cream. there was a layer of a sesame flavor chocolate filling. interesting, but overall i would probably not order it again. Lastly, i got a raspberry macaron. the outside was nice and yummy and the inside was a chocolate filling. It was good, but i think i like the macaron from Angelmaid better with the jelly filling inside instead of chocolate.
i was tempted to buy some of their reallly cute bags of cookies, but mind you these bags cost 4-5 bucks and there's only about 5-6 cookies in them all around quarter size. their cream puffs looked pretty interesting! not your average cream puff flavors here!
Overall, great customer service, great selection of unique cakes, but a little pricey. also, it's best to get there early before the selection of macarons run out.

Cake, cake, cake, sweets and pie I'm always wanting a sweet treat. And one would think that I would be loaded with sweet treats with RL being a Pastry Chef and all.

I came across Patisserie Chantilly via yelp and I am so excited that I did.

RL and I stopped by here yesterday afternoon for something sweet after our delicious sandwich lunch.

I was in heaven. It looked like heaven. Perfectly constructed little sweet treats all lined up in a display case for the gods.

I wanted them all. How do I choose? Well we did, we kind of had to. Chocolate tart for RL (he is on a quest for those these days as he is trying to perfect his already perfect recipe) and I got the Gateau Fraise which was like a strawberry shortcake. So good both were! I have found my cake place. This is a great and bad thing.

I am writing this review as I wait for Jessica (fellow yelper) to meet me for lunch and I think we will be making a pit stop here after.

Patisserie Chantilly is one of those fancy Japanese run French pastry shops.  The best word to describe their food is very dainty.

The pastry quality is exceptional, but the portion sizes are more of a amuse bouche, thus the dainty description.  They have some wonderful selections of heavily French influenced pastries from Framboage to Almond Tuile (almond cookies to you and me).  Yes they were amazingly delicious and decadent, but the portion size has a lot to be desired.

Based on the prices and portion sizes, this place should be located in Beverly Hills and not Lomita.  They have the exceptional quality and high prices to thrive in the cut throat environment of B.H. but the prices are too steep for a Lomita neighborhood.

I suppose if you don't mind paying the high prices and can accept the dainty portion sizes, its kind of nice to have such a high end pastry shop in the neighborhood.

Decor: 4 Stars (a cute little place)
Service: 4 Stars (very good)
Atmosphere: 4 Stars (very quiet environment)
Food Quality: 5 Stars (top quality stuff)
Quantity of Food: 2 Stars (very dainty)
Price: 2 Stars (too pricey)

For a Grand Total of 4 Stars.

Seriously, I have died and gone to heaven.  Okay, maybe just dessert heaven.  Haven't tried everything there, but definitely had enough to know that I gotta keep coming back!

Desserts I've had so far: Mont Blanc, Othello, Choux aux Sesames, Paris-Brest Chocolat, all flavors of macaroons, Financier and mini Pecan pies

The only down-side is that they close by 7:30pm on most weeknights, so gotta rush there after work to get my sweet tooth fix.  Otherwise, gotta wait till the weekend.  Btw,  the desserts must be eaten on the same day for the best flavors and textures.

AHH.... disappointing...
after the reading the outrageously good reviews, we went here allll the way from irvine and was not blown away by their desserts, whatsoever.
and they were out of their macarons!!! noooo
so we had the black sesame cream puff, mont blanc and angel. they were all just ok. i expected to experience a party in my mouth but no. nothing amazing or out of this world. i mean, it was good, but not worth coming here allll the way from irvine. i can get similar stuff down here.
the black sesame cream puff seemed to have too much black sesame and the cream part was sort of runny. the puff part was a little too overcooked, as well.
probably will not come back here again!

Wow! The real deal! Ive tried so many "patisseries" in the Southern Ca, ESP the Asian kind here in the southbay- only to be so disapointed. If you've ever eaten the real French style stuff (my first real job ever- Ian's Patisserie), the boring, no flavor, air & gelatin blandness of 98% of the Asian-French style patisseries will only depress you.
Not here! The black sesame cream puff is as outstanding as other yelpers say. The cream was packed with sesame flavor while the cream puff actually seemed to have several textures and flavors unto itself- crispier and almost carmelized at the bottom, straight up puffy at the top and somewhat creamy other places...The pomme pomme (apple tart) was.... Wow! Again, real cream, perfect apples and multi dimensional crust! Food as art!
The macaroons, the almondines! Apply what I said above to these as well. Opening new doors of delight for me! There is no other place that I know of ANYWHERE at this point that is even in the same league as this place, and here it is in humble Lomita!
PS: To the yelpers who have a problem with the prices- if I added up the cost of all the crappy, bland, waste of time patisseries I've tried over the last few years and compared it to the intense quality here, I would see the basement bargain that it is. People should just be happy TO HAVE such artistry AVAILABLE.

You are going to adore this little patisserie.
Gorgeous petite desserts fill the display case and will dance in your head as you try to make the difficult decision of which one to enjoy.

It's kind of like trying to choose your favorite Dodger boyfriend...
The cream puff is the Andre Ethier of Chantilly. It's adorable,  everyone love's 'em, and it's sure to hit one out of the park.

They also serve excellent coffee & tea.
Taking some to go?  Don't forget to bring a cooler and some ice or be forced to pay 25 cents for each ice pack you need.  They care about their desserts here and won't let you leave without keeping them fresh!

The interior of the store is very simplistic and has a clean feel to it. Seems very artsy, though what do I know about art? I'm a business student. The pastries they have behind the cold case all looked very delicious, that it took me some time to decide what to choose. Fortunately, the girls working there are very courteous and do not try to rush you into making a decision or even show any sign of annoyance. I finally decided upon a pastry called 'Noix' aka Mari's Favorite. It was perfect, not too sweet, but not too bland. I wanted to order a coffee drink, but the employee politely informed me they were about to close [6:30PM]. Next time, I'll have to make an earlier trip there.

this black sesame cream puff is on the list of prob top 10, not top 5 deserts i've had in my life.  it's so elegant and lovely.

I had this passionfruit desert there too which was lovely. I love passionfruit desserts i'm a sucker for them.  I like the sizes too that they are smaller, so you don't gorge yourself and then for some reason can't button your pants.

Excellent French/Japanese style bakery specializing in pastries and desserts.  It's a little pricey, compared to other bakeries nearby, but you definitely get what you pay for.  Cream puffs, macaroons, cakes are all delicious.  Definitely one of the top bakeries in the South Bay.

This is one of my favorite patisseries in town (tho it's not really in LA) right now! The cakes are light and small, but these babies you can't normally find elsewhere and most of them are amazing!

The creampuffs are worlds apart from the mainstream bearded kind. Also made fresh to order but the pastry is way fresher and crunchier. Filled to the brim with their delicious chantilly cream.

The souffle fromage is light and fluffy, delicately delicious. Not too overly cheesy or sweet. One of our favorites!

This tiny bakery is super good.  I went there last Sunday and got grapefruit jelly, mont blanc, sesame choux and some macaroons (coffee, vanilla and raspberry).   Service was great; we ate the jelly there and took the other stuff to go and they kept the other stuff refrigerated until we were ready to leave.  The grapefruit jelly was refreshing and different in a good way.  It's a perfect summer day treat.  The macaroons were delicious; coffee was my favorite.  Vanilla macaroon tasted like white chocolate and the raspberry was pretty good too.  The filling tasted like ice cream to me.  Choux sesame was good too but not my favorite.  I liked the Mont Blanc; it tasted like sweet potato mixed with the cake and cream.  I would definitely go back there and try the other stuff.

I think the Chantilly experience is enhanced by its clean, chic, minimal decor and the care with which they package their items.

I've had their choux (regular flavor - vanilla?) and the black sesame one.  They were both great.  Next time I go, I will make sure to branch out and try something new.

Tickle me Sweet and Spoiled.

This place gives me taste bumps.

Don't wake me, Christopher Williams.

There are so many bakeries out there (and I ain't complaining)... that everything starts to kind of taste the same.  Am I right or am I right?

Nuh uhhhhhhhhhh.

Not anymore~~~~~~~.

I've only had this place bookmarked since the beginning of Yelp and haunted my friends with pictures of all the delectables from this yummery. But due to their hours and my schedule, one day led to one week to one month to November 17, 2008 - the day that ends this madness. I can't even articulate it into words how awesomely funktafied legendary mafioso this place is because only *#&*&$*#(&$#(&$# comes out.

Hmm.  I've only had 2 items from this place and I'm already a huge fan.  The BF brought me some and it was DE-LISH!  The Strawberry cake was so rich, creamy, and light.  The cream puff was YUMMY!  Oh man, I almost died eating these things... Okay, slight exaggeration but it was so good.

I can't wait to try the macchiato dessert.  MMM... makes my mouth water!

So, the BF raves about this place too.  Visit http://www.yelp.com/us...  to see his review.

Dreamy, Absolutely dreamy.

I used to get my hair cut next door so I was informed about this cake shop right when it was first opened.  The ingredients are the fresh daily and the sweet cream is just right.  I usually don't like strawberry shortcake for various reasons (strawberry too dry, not sweet enough.  Sponge take lack of flavor. Whipped cream too sweet...etc etc).  Never a case there.  I can actually taste the difference of each ingredients when it was delivered into my mouth.  Strawberry is fresh, juicy and crisp with slight sweetness & tart.  Chantilly cream is just about right and the sponge cake is moist and not too thick. not to mention the whip cream (not your typical heavy whipped cream!)  I love it so much!!

Some highlights in the store also included their fresh black sesame cream puff (served hot).  White Sesame mousse (with sesame dressing on the side).  Other stuffs are great too, but these ones are my personal favorites.

I was lucky enough to get a cake this past christmas from them.  It was very nicely decorated and my entire family think its the highlight of the night.  Kids loved it!!!!  The only gripe is that their cake is very small, but you get what you paid for - QUALITY, not QUANTITY.

I was being told that they also serve great coffee too.  So if you are into afternoon tea thing, make sure to try it someday!

Tip:  Pre-order cake far in advance for special occasion.  Quantity is extremely limited.  Definitely recommended for those who enjoys sweets and are willing to spend more $ for the higher quality food.

The Big Bopper's been singin' in my head all day, in anticipation of my going to Chantilly for a treat tonight......

"Chantilly lace and a pretty face
And a pony tail hanging down
That wiggle in the walk and giggle in the talk
Makes the world go round
There ain't nothing in the world like a big eyed girl
That makes me act so funny, make me spend my money
Make me feel real loose like a long necked goose
Like a girl, oh baby that's what I like......"

lalalalalalalalaaaaaa I got a rhyme of my own:

For me to eat sweets is kinda silly
My arse is already big as a filly
Nonetheless, caution went willy-nilly
And I ended up at Patisserie Chantilly

It was amazing, it blew my mind
This little place is a great Yelp find
It is expensive so bring ample money
And if you wish to impress, invite your Honey

They got snowball cookies & parfaits
Mousse au Mango & souffles
Grapefruit Gelee, cheesecake bar
Chantilly Roll, Chocolat Amour
Orange Sable cookies & chocolate chip
No matter how far, make the trip

Friendly service, she was very sweet
Said goodbye twice as I left with my treat
I opened the snowball cookies as home I went
Fit for angels, they were heaven-sent
Buttery & light, I meant to eat just one
Fat chance, underpants....all 3 were gone

If I go back often I'll be a good deal fatter
And broke.  But hell what does it matter......

When people think of Japanese things, usually "cute" and "small" come to mind.  Chantilly is no exception.  Except their price tags on some of their goods.  Not so cute.  Not so small.

My foodie friend and I drove west to meet up with a friend and Chantilly was on the East Bay hit list.  We drove like mad(wo)men over to this bakery, hearing that it closed at 7pm and already having missed Sakae Sushi by a mere 5 minutes.  We slid into the doors, at a cushy 6:50pm, only to be relieved and slightly surprised by the fact that it closes at 7:30pm.

We were enchanted at all the cute little things Chantilly had to offer and had a hard time deciding.  I think a decision that was harder was wondering if it was worth it to spend so much money on cute little cakes.  In the end, the cute little cakes won.  There were also cute little cookies, but they were a little too little to be worth the price.  We got our goodies to go (4 cakes, and macarons which make me HAPPY), and they were lovingly packaged in a cute little box.

It was all prettttyyy darn good.  My cream puff was akin to Beard Papa's, although the cream was much richer.  My mouth sang it's praises while my arteries choked out an eff you.  Taste-wise, macarons did not disappoint, although La Boulange in SF's are bigger and less expensive.  Friends' cakes were tasty and light.  A little better than what a Chinese bakery in Rowland could churn out.  All in all, a good experience and want to come back when I'm in the area.  Until then, I'll daydream about their creampuffs and cross my fingers that I have a filthy rich uncle somewhere who loves me and will finance a possibly very unhealthy love affair with Chantilly's creampuffs.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I never thought I'd find macaroons like the ones I had in Paris [our American version of macaroons are NOTHING like the European kind!] until I came here. But although the macaroons are my favorite, I also think their cheesecake and choux are phenomenal as well. If only they would open another storefront near Pasadena...I'd be there every day trying everything available!

I am going to throw my hands up and confess on this one. I really am not big on pastries or ever had been a baked goods connoisseur. Never have and never really will become one.

So it would be a stretch for me to consider on what to expect when I arrive to this place.

Coming to a plaza that does not offer ample parking and tight confinements will make you think twice about coming to this dodgy part of the street. I was just happy to come here because of Eboshi Noodle house for ramen. However due to my disappointment of that place, I was hoping to grab some desserts to wash off that bitterness I would like to call "overrated ramen". Oh well...

I walked in and immediately zoomed in to one display glass counter worth of goodies. Yeah folks, that is all they really have is just that one display case. Yet, that case provides the excitement of pot of gold only a leprechaun would appreciate. I went goo goo eyed and started to think and flick off on what to get from this place.

I would wound up getting:

*Pomme Pomme http://static.px.yelp.... . This reminds me of an apple cobbler. It had an egg tart based with apple crumbles on top. This was easily my favorite snack from this pick-n-choose.

*Kir Royale http://static.px.yelp.... . Think of it like a parfait, but better than Micky D's version. A very delightful little sampler.

*Mont Fraise http://static.px.yelp.... . Oh this pink little dumpling is like a puff ball that a twinkie should be made like. If only your twinkie would taste like this pink puff ball.

*Tarte Chocolat http://static.px.yelp.... . It had some cruchy malt balls that split in half on top of a chocolate wafer. If you are looking for a chocolate gorge out, this would be it.

*Souffle Fromage http://static.px.yelp.... . If you are looking for a nice little blueberry cheesecake, this would be it. It was also one of my favorite tasters. The cake was soft and fluffy with blueberries on the bottom layer and top of the cheesecake. A big Yum-O on this one.

*Gateau Fraise http://static.px.yelp.... . This is like a good creame strawberry cake you can find in most Asian bakeries. It's not bad, but not a wowser like the others.

Majority of these delicious snacks will set you back around $3.75 each. Think of it like you are having a tasting menu for desserts. Obviously these little snack can be bought in bigger portions if they wish to do, but charging $3.75 each for a smaller tasting samples size is a better idea.

If all bakeries or restaurants have amuse buse for desserts, this place would win out for their imaginative creations in bite size. I definitely would stop by here more often whenever I am in the area.

Oh the joy of having not just one, but two or three little snacks. For me, I just decide to pig out on six. I would have gotten more, but I wasted my stomach space on the ramen beforehand.

My colleague, Francis, a self proclaimed foodie (I should note it is a well deserved title), recommended that I try this place some time.  I asked him why... His expression sunk and he walked away, as if to say, "You idiot! Don't question a man who TRULY loves food."

Well, as fate would have it, I ended up dating a girl for a while who lived in Lomita.  One of our first dates  brought us to this lovely place.  We had our Cream Puffs... I tell you.  I was in heaven.  These little delicate puffs of harmony so light and rich at the same time.  Mmm. They melted in my mouth.  I'm a big fan of the black sesame cream puffs.  And while my ex and I dated, she would bring me some of these awesome puffs...It was heavenly, while it lasted.  Alas, we are no more, but Chantilly.  I love thee!

I've been to a couple other places since, to test the quality of my beloved Chantilly.  Not. Even. Close.  Seriously.  I live in Orange County and would drive there in a heart beat given a choice between Chantilly or some other place. It's that good!

Impress people with your knowledge of the 'good stuff.'  They will love you for it.

True culinary works of art I'd say.
Watch out Satsura, Chantilly's cakes are a few notches above yours.
Location location location.
Took us a while to find the place.
We were there on a Tuesday afternoon and the customer traffic makes us a bit concerned whether they can survive or not.
Cakes are very perishable and from what I tasted (we had 2 there and bought 4 for after dinner treat) their stuff is as fresh as can be.
For 25cents they will give you an ice-pack in the carry box.
Get someone to sponsor you to open one at a big $ location like Santana Row (no, not Santa Monica promenade cos you'd have to hire 2 security guards for your storefront like ALL other retail joints there) and you will make it BIG in no time.

I usually don't care for sweets.  But when I'm hanging out with bunch of girls, I have no choice but to pretend like I'm one of them.  Hahaha, just kidding, being such a gentleman that I am, I tend to their needs.  ;-)

Why is it that American cakes are so yucky?  Too much food coloring, too much sugar, etc.  Just the thought of eating it makes me want to gag.

Well, this place sells Japanese cakes.   Mmmm...really good.  Not heavy and sugar ridden like American cakes.   Sweetness does not overpower your taste buds with these Japanese cakes.  But unfortunately, it comes with hefty price tag to go with it.  But I'm sure you'll enjoy it.  There is another Japanese bakery few doors down from Sanuki no Sato.  That place is good too.

BFF: "Do you know how many times i've gotten laid off this shit?

Located in a random Lomita strip mall, Chantilly is a recipe for sexy time. Decorated in clean cutesy white and green decor, the employees are adorable and professional - taking the time to arrange your cakes with ice packs to ensure freshness The mango and strawberry mousse cake is pretty tasty. Not too sweet. Light and fluffy.

But word is, the one dollar bite sized cheesecake sticks makes the tip/vag wet. guaranteed

Pretty good deal if you ask me. Where else can you get some two dollar lovey dovey?

(btw one, it's a rhetorical question and two. yes. quite possibly fresno.)

I LOVE this place! First, let me say, I love it's clean simplicity of its interior AND of its desserts. It's a very calm atmosphere where there is no other place I can imagine where people can have a sweet treat and coffee (not for me, but for my mother).

The cream puff here is amazing. Not too sweet, and the cream itself is soft with a texture and taste that doesn't feel like it waited in air. The pastry was soft and flaky enough that I didn't make a mess.

The raspberry cheesecake was amazing! My mother, as talkative as she is, was quiet throughout her bites. I enjoyed that savory silence.

My mom said she liked the strong coffee.

I had a pudding that was similar to Mexican style leche flan, and still, it was not too sweet, and I like sweets!

Everything here is preciously designed, and far too pretty to eat. I am just amazed at how simply everything seemed to be.

And, you can order specialized cakes for all sorts of occasions. Forget the gaudy designs you had when you were a kid, these are the real deal decorative treats. Place an order 3-5 days in advance. Prices vary.

Patisserie Chantilly's creations are to be savored. It's very tempting to shove their delicious pastries into your mouth,  but you've got to let your tongue taste every nuance and appreciate the work that went into it before you can wolf down a second helping.

Choux aux Sesames is delicious. Not too heavy of a cream filling, and just enough that it doesn't gush out of the pastry. You can just taste the sesame, it's so subtle.  I can't imagine eating any other cream puff after Chantilly.

Props to Linda N. for buying them and letting me share in the goodness!

Cute little cake shop is the best way to describe it.  I've purchased a lot of their cakes for friends and they've all enjoyed it.  A little pricy but their quality is worth it.  I've bought some for my gf and she loves it.
