I was taking the scenic route biking back from the Walker (I like to take the scenic routes these days as I have the time and it allows me to get better acquainted with the city), and I saw this little shop. I stepped inside and, wow, not as little as I expected!
There was SO MUCH to look at, and I cannot wait until I have more money in my pocket so I can spend it here. Great for things around the house, bath supplies, books, kitchen stuff, and gifts.
Always a great place to find gifts...
Patina rocks!
I worked here all through my college days and had to fight every urge in my body to not spend my entire rent check on the best smelling candles in the world, quirky fabulous jewels, ice cube trays in the shape of gemstones, lavender filled spa booties, stationery that looks like it came from a Parisian boutique....I could go on, you get the idea. This is probably the best place on the planet to get a Mother's Day gift. There are fabulous things for men too, but as you can imagine...this place leans toward the girl-y side. Check out the website (http://patinastores.com), but know that a true Patina experience can not be had without visiting the store.....the great music selection (they sell all of the music they play), the smell, the fantastic displays.
Wow, I think I miss this place. :)
If I had a job that paid more than peanuts, I would buy everything in here.
That said, they have every kitschy little item you never knew that you needed, and every perfect gift item for every breathing person you know. And perhaps some that are no longer doing such.
Whether you need bacon shaped band-aids, gourmet bacon chocolate bars, baby-how-to books, or the ultimate wedding present (and wrapping paper), you can find it here. They also have piles of holiday stuff for any and every holiday celebrated.
The one down-side is that everything is expensive. Everything. But its so damn cool I can't help buying stuff there anyway.
Everybody knows that Patina carries a certain whimsy to it.
Not everybody understands the practical side:
Merchandise is arranged by color, not by item. So, if you're looking for say, coasters, don't think "coasters," think "orange coasters." Or blue thank you cards. Or mauve oven mitts. Know this and escape shopping frustration. (Or don't shop here for anything specific and leave satisfied every time.)
P.S. Hands off the peacock-green floor lamp. It's mine!
If you're a chick who likes a bunch of junk in your living room/dining room/bedroom, this is the place for you. A lot of the items I wanted are overpriced. If you have a big fat wallet willing to splurge on something you'll probably not use as often as you'd like, well here's a store that can provide you that. I guess the only reason I wanted to check it out is because of Yelp, but other than that I would have thought it's an antique store from the outside. Sorry to disappoint some of you reading this, but this is truly what I got out of it.
The perfect shop for a gift! Cute, whimsical, sassy cards, stationery, candles, soaps, jewelry, little purses, baking/cooking gift sets, Urban Outfittersesque gag gifts...I could not decide what to get for my girlfriend, so I thought I'd just let her do the work with a gift card. Afterwards, don't forget to stop by Sebastian Joe's for some homemade ice cream!
I am conflicted. I really really enjoy this place. I also truly enjoy there ascetic and have purchased some quality goods here. But I have also gone shopping here for gifts and I get into some numb zone where I am unable to find anything for anyone else. All I see are the cute purses that I would love and need. I either walk out with nothing (no gifts) or walk out with everything (2 purses for 2 different people-one lovely leather clutch the other a fun print canvas bag, plus gift cards, plus earrings as part of the gift, and a purse for myself-I mean who can resist a purse with fruit with smiles and fast food with fangs). You have been warned.
This location is great for the Patina mini chain. Although the one on 50th has a better clearance section, this location offers a large location packed with have to have items. One of my two necessary stops while on Christmas holiday, I recently bought the best ashtray in the whole world...it has a picture of Christ that says "Jesus hates it when you smoke" - it's online too. Merry Christmas to me!
