I thought that I hated moving more than anything. Then I went and added a breakup to moving. Now that will make for a really shitty week. Pat Ryan and his guys came to the rescue. They fit me in on a cancellation which was great. The guys were prompt, fast, careful and did a great job. I was out of my apartment and into storage in 3 hours. I would use them again in a heartbeat.
I've moved across country two times and within the state more than I care to say - without question, these are the finest movers I've ever worked with - my boyz, Kieran, Eddie and Stephen rocked. They were so courteous, took great care of my stuff, and worked as hard as I have ever seen anyone work moving!! Unbelievable. You are insane if you don't use them - really!!
You can't mess around with moving and you can trust these guys - they are like having your brothers around to help you move (except they work harder than mine would...)
Best of luck to a great group and please use them!!!!!
When I first saw what they could do, I was like, "Woa!."
They are really professional.
On the 21st of March, three guys (Kieran, Robbie, and one more but I cannot remember... sorry!) came and helped us. They came to my place to load my stuff, went to my bf's place to pick up his stuff, and went to our new place to unload all the stuff. Our new place is on the 3rd floor w/o an elevator... Without them, my bf and I couldn't have a life that we are enjoying now. Thank you so much! You guys are amazing!!
Never schedule a move right after coming off a 13-hour trans-pacific flight! But if you do...be sure to hire Pat Ryan!
Our movers (Kieran, Liam, and Eddie) were friendly, efficient and professional. They were careful with our stuff and had a great sense of humor (especially helpful when the elevator, supposedly reserved for us, wasn't). I'm especially thrilled b/c we have tons of delicate glassware and china...and EVERY PIECE arrived unscathed! Liam even reminded me twice to be very careful when unpacking a particularly prized vase of mine.
Some of our furniture did suffer some injury (dents, scratches and a tempered glass tabletop that got chipped), but I believe that Pat will take care of these things for us. Judging from our own experience with Pat's team -- and all the reviews -- Pat Ryan Moving and Storage is decent and professional above all.
We just moved from SF to South Marin and I want to add our comments to those already posted. The long and short of it was that the movers did exactly what we wanted from beginning to end. A (small?) example of their service is that when they came toour home for the estimate, they noticed that street cleaning day was Tuesday 7-9 AM (the day we moved) and they said we wouldn NOT have to pay $200 to the police for no parking signs as they would be there to park right after the "steet brooms" came through. They certainly were there early enough and had no problem parking and loading with those signs. This was in downtown SF! The rest of the move went just fine, damaging nothing, being very corteous and business like throughout. They just did a terrific flawless job. The only slight hesitation about their service is that it seemed to take too long beween places, but what the hell! I'd recommend Pat Ryan movers who, by the way, I found on Yelp to anyone making a move.
I checked out these movers because of the reviews from Yelp. While the move was completed, there were some issues that I think others should know about.
We moved here from across the country and had shipped our stuff in container crates. A pickup was scheduled and we rented a car to go out to the storage facility. I was told that move was going to be at a certain time on the weekend and that they would call to confirm the day before. We never received that call which is probably part of the confusion that happened.
We drove out to the storage facility with plenty of time and waited. And kept waiting, more than an hour past the initial time I had been told they would arrive. When I tried to call the office to confirm, the answering machine kept saying leave a message and they will get back to me monday. I tried three different times and never received anyone on the phone. I was in the process of calling another mover (since our stuff was left outside of a secured facility and no way to put it back in), when the movers showed up. Apparently, they thought it was a range of time they were supposed to show up.
I understand sometimes they cannot commit to a time, but this was not communicated to me and there was never a call to let me know when they would arrive. I have dealt with other movers who have always been clear on the day of the move to call ahead and give me the status. The movers were nice enough but were not that apologetic.
The move went fine and I was able to reschedule the other appointment and left them finishing with the loading, but that was added stress that could have been avoided if communication had been clearer. The movers also apparently had not eaten and so in the middle of our move took a break to go eat. I understand you need to eat, but that is also something that has never happened to me in other moves. This was only a few hour move with little furniture.
In the end, our stuff got moved in and nothing was broken, but I would not recommend Pat Ryan moving because I don't think you should do a move when you do not have a number someone can call during the move. The added stress and uncertainty would have easily been avoided if someone had answered the phone and explained the miscommunication or if the movers had called ahead and given the status of their previous job and when they expected to arrive.

Pat -
You and your team are the best. They did an execellent job despite being under the weather from and moved our two bedroom from San Francisco to Palo Alto. Thanks to Colin, Tito and Paul!
I wholeheartedly recommend their services, they have been honest, prompt, and professional at every stage of this process. Will definitely call you guys again.

Yelpers have done it again - made a choice worth choosing for me in Pat Ryan Moving & Storage. What girl doesn't appreciate some cutie-patootie boys (Sean, Robbie, Stephen) coming to help her move her worldly possessions? And one with an Irish accent to boot - seriously, that just topped the cake. Half the time I couldn't understand a word the kid was saying, but he was sure polite and worked his ass off (as did the other two).
They were all great, professional, and QUICK. And if I'm not mistaken, they were all wearing a Pat Ryan company t-shirt. It may seem like a small thing, but I enjoy it when a company requires this. It means that they're representing the company's interests and usually work to uphold whatever company value has been set. If three guys show up at my door to move my things, and it's just three dudes, what do they care of they break something?
Haven't opened a box with anything broken and haven't seen a lick of mar on any furniture. And every box was in the right room. Loves it.
I wish I could give them six stars...okay...ten.

Hey Beth, must be something in the water. My b/f & I broke up the day before Pat was going to move me. These guys were friendly and fast. Their energy was just amazing. I had some large awkward furniture and they were super careful with everything. I know I didn't do the hottest job of packing, but neither furniture nor floors got scratched, and I've found nothing broken (except for my heart, which I'm afraid, these guys can't do anything about (well, maybe, but it would only be temporary.)) I highly recommend them to anyone.
Pat Ryan Moving has surpassed all my numerous moving experiences within San Francisco, and I would definitely use them next move. I've moved 4 times within 4 years, and never has the move gone as smoothly as my recent experience with Pat Ryan. They went the extra mile to come estimate my move, and in so doing - they ended up recommending more men than other companies, which ended up being crucial to getting the job done within one day. They were professional, efficient, easy to communicate with, and accommodating to my tight moving schedule. The price is competitive with other companies, but the job much more helpful!
Pat Ryan's team was great during our recent move within SF. These guys are honest, cheerful, friendly, on time, have a sense of humor, patience, and amazing strength. They included a huge stack of moving boxes and tape for us to use for packing ahead of time and smiled a lot during the very long day of packing and unpacking. We had a whole lot of stuff to move from our condo to our new house, and a couple of beds to take apart and reassemble and they did it all. Only very minor damage (one of the bolts in the platform bed was put in incorrectly and damaged the finish) happened and Pat was fantastic about covering the cost of repair when he learned about it. We would choose these guys again because of our positive experience. They really are one of the best in SF.
These guys are the best. My girlfriend and I used them a few weeks ago and it was a flawless and most importantly painless experience. I highly recommend them packing up your stuff as well as moving it. For us it was worth the extra money to have them take care of it! We were packed up, moved and unpacking our new place in less than 5 hours. How great is that! They were professional, timely and efficient. A big thumbs up!
These guys ROCK!! All I know is that my husband really liked their service and all of our stuff was moved and unbroken when I got to our new apartment. I set up the move and their phone courtesy was great and so was their pricing. We moved from SF to SJ and with all of our crap they finished in a total of 5.5-6 hours which was right on the nose for the quote I received. Also, their quote was all inclusive... no additional fees for fuel or out of city limits. My husband said that Pat stopped by that morning and then left his trusty crew to handle the move. He said that the guys were nice and thoughtful and fast and my husband is extremely critical when it comes to paying someone by the hour;)
BTW, for the crew that moved our stuff (sorry I lost the paper with your names on it) here's a little information on our wedding broom...
Jumping the broom or in some cases jumping over an imaginary line is an African ritual, or tradition still being practiced in some parts of West Africa. Enslaved Africans, as an affirmation of their cultural heritage practiced it during slavery in North America. This "leap" into a new life (marriage life) as husband and wife is performed in the presence of families and friends. The broom has both symbolic and spiritual importance in the African culture.

I hate to give these guys a bad review, but I must be truthful.
We used them in April 2007 for a move from one loft in SOMA to another. For the actual move they were great - swift, pleasant and uncomplaining, even though our elevator at the second loft was out of service for most of the move. We were delighted with them at the time -we even bought them lunch and gave them a good tip.
Then they left. And we noticed - when moving our expensive Giulio Bench coffee table (yes, the one we had saved up for and lovingly purchased at DWR) - that they had chipped off a part from the bottom of the bench and covered it with gum and black shoe polish so that we wouldn't notice. Yes, you read that right - gum & shoe polish!
It was a little odd that they brought in the coffee table absolute last from their truck during the move... We then realized it was because they wanted the shoe polish to dry as much as possible, while minimizing the time that they, us and the now chipped coffee table would spend in one room.
We also noticed that they had cracked two of the legs of our dining table.
What gets me most is not that they chipped the coffee table and cracked the legs of the dining room table - these things happen in moves and it's not unexpected. What gets me is that they purposely tried to hide the damage from us - and hoped that they would get away with it. This is a terrible way to do business.
***12/15/07 amendment - Pat Ryan, the owner, contacted me shortly after I posted the original review and apologized profusely for his crew's behavior. He immediately picked up the coffee table, took it to a refinisher, and when he found out that the table was unrepairable, offered to replace it or to compensate us for the damage.
I'm pretty happy about how he's handled this and trust that this was a one-off aberration by his crew that won't happen again. Based on his reaction, I would probably recommend him, although I would say that you should be cautious that the crew handles expensive items properly.

Pat Ryan moved me and my boyfriend this past weekend and honestly, I have never had a better moving experience. They started at my man's place, loaded the truck, came to my place, loaded the truck and unloaded at our new place...all in under 2.5 hours! They were friendly, professional and hard-working. They are pricey but not outrageous at $150/3 men. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone who is looking to hire movers.

These guys helped me move and store a one bedroom apartment in San Francisco. 5 stars all around -- prompt, careful, professional; 2 guys did an excellent job packing and moving our place in a very short period of time. I got estimates from a few places, this one was slightly cheaper.
Pat and his Irish boys have actually helped me not only move, but pack twice now. Both times, they've been incredibly accommodating with the move dates and times.
The first time, they moved me from SoMa to the Inner Richmond. When I found out that they also offered the service to pack my things as well, I was all over that.
They came, they packed, the moved, they got stuck in the elevator.
Yes, one of the guys, on his very last trip down after having moved everything, got stuck in the elevator between the 1st and 2nd floor. He took it in good humour and was able to escape after about 15mins.
Fast forward to a year later. My roommates and I were moving to Inner Sunset. I convinced them that there was really no better way to move than the experience I had last time and they were bought in.
Sure enough, they did not disappoint. Everything was packed quickly and safely. I have some pretty challenging furniture including a long TV stand and a glass dining table but none of these phased the always chipper boys.
One thing I recommend is to have some cheerful banter and some beer in store for afterwards. Everything else, they'll take care of.

I swear, I'd move again just to enjoy the pleasure of some of the hardest working, and kindest, guys in the business. My move went so smoothly, I was surrounded by wonderful people, and they could not have been more helpful or willing to set me up in my new home exactly to my liking.
Thank you so very much, guys!

Ditto to everything said prior... They were efficient, quick and careful. They also came in $200 under the quoted price (and I was at the top of a 3 flight walk up). I was impressed!!
Cheerful, awesome, and completely professional, these guys are top notch for any and all moving needs.
They moved us in 1 day from a 4 bedroom 3bath in the inner richmond to a 3bedroom/3bath in the inner sunset including packing, disassembling and reassembling furniture, and multiple flights of stairs.
Total champs.

These guys are great--booking with Pat was a breeze, they showed up early, finished early, and made the entire process totally uneventful--couldn't have wished for a better experience
Know what they are doing, don't make excuses and get the job done
Also don't nickel and dime you with transit charges, insurance nor do they require deposit to schedule a move (like 1 big man...)
We had 3 guys who were supposed to start at 8am, but they actually showed up and 745 and didn't bill for that 15mins
Clive, the senior mover (and guy with white hair in the biz pic) was very keen to ensure a positive (e-virtual word-of-mouf) yelp review when done
They also like to keep the help in the (Irish) family
Totally recommended

Pat gave a reasonable quote and we went with him. Although his guys showed up 15 mins late, they moved quickly and efficiently and the way the wrapped the furniture was simply amazing!!
Pleasant to work with and reasonably priced and they definitely don't slack off! Kudos!

Pat Ryan helped us move in February from an apartment with a lot of stairs to another apartment with even more stairs. They were great. Nothing was damaged. The movers were all very friendly and really hard workers. Highly recommended.
Overall, for moving companies, I gotta say these guys were pretty awesome...the only hitch was that I got one serious, skilled mover...and one student visiting from Ireland who was less than diligent and seemed to be looking forwards to heading off to vacation time in a week or so. That made for a bit of an unbalanced move...I did get some nicks and scratches, yes - nothing serious, but just to put it out there.
That said, I'd still go with them next time...only I'll be requesting career guys next time over 30... ;-)
Pat Ryan was a joy to chat with on the phone - I was moving at a moment's notice and he handily delivered me from the worry of arranging a move with less than a week's notice!! And I was awfully impressed by their timely arrival and total ability to deliver according to a phone quote - I paid what I was expecting too...no surprises!
Best move yet - thank goodness for companies like this that take pride in what they do. You rule Pat Ryan & crew!!

Pat Ryan and company provided top notch service, moving my things from a 2 bedroom flat to a smaller apartment and then taking the rest to storage. Sean, Darragh, and Bakuri were fast, professional and quite pleasant. One furniture piece was slightly damaged, and Pat Ryan himself showed up the next day with his doctor's bag and made it all better! This was by far the least stressful move I've had in a long time. I'll be calling you again for the next move. Slan go foill...

Don't be fooled by my 4 stars....these guys were so amazing we had them come back for more heavy lifting. The only reason I knocked one off was because Pat (bless his Irish heart) under estimated the amount of crap I had hidden away I guess. We ended up paying about 25% more than the quoted price, but believe me it was worth it. The guys were careful, professional, and darlings for holding one of my babies while the other one puked all over himself with the toddler flu. (I tipped well). They also just moved a baby grand piano for me as well with reassembly. Top notch!

Recently hired them to move a 2br house from Outer Richmond to Inner Sunset. Pat was out of town but the crew was very professional, friendly and quite fast. We had everything packed and labelled really well before they arrived. They hardly had to ask where anything went. The hours and price were slightly higher than the quote but not by much. All in all, it was a great experience. They showed up at 10 AM and we were all moved in by 2:30. Nothing broken and very low-stress.
Man.... the reviews don't lie! If you want a no hassle moving experience, this IS the way to go! They are such hard workers... no messing around or goofing off... Just straight business.... Love it... AND, the final payment was less then what had originally been estimated... Can't ask for more.... Bless the Irish :)

Moving from the south bay to SF was easy as pie with Pat Ryan. I have nothing more to add from the past reviews (extra guys at no charge, a bit more cost but worth it, etc.). I've rarely had service so pleasant and hard-working in any industry as I have when I've moved with Pat Ryan. I'll definitely be calling back next time I move.

I can only add to the already fantastic reviews for Pat's Moving Company. E-chan and I had 2 movers (Hi Darragh and Russian guy who's name I can't remember!) who did an amazing job!!! E-chan and I were moving in together from two different apts and the whole time there were no complaints and a chill attitude from our movers. The man himself, Pat Ryan, even showed up to our new apt just to see how things were going!!! O_O I mean, that is star treatment! I felt squishy.
Anyways, so the move took all day and I was more than happy to buy the movers pizza and cokes from Marcello's (the best pizza place in the city). The cost was surprisingly affordable and we gave them a tip for getting a huge leather sofa up 2 flights of stairs.
We will definitely be using them again the next time we move. Thank you Pat Ryan and team!

Having moved from Michigan, I referenced Yelp to find a great bunch of movers just to unload my possessions once they arrived by freight. Pat Ryan Movers was at the top of the list and all I can say is they definitely illustrated why they have such a great review. Returned my calls quickly and eased my mind after a delay in freight service required me to reschedule my moving appointment and Pat Ryan Moving was very accommodating.
Once my movers Sean and Dakuri arrived, they jumped right to task and were finished before I knew it. I would highly recommend calling Pat Ryan Moving if you want a mover who provides impeccable and friendly service.

Yea, I am jumping on the 5 star bandwagon. These guys rocked. My move was painful to watch with two different apartments, both walkups mind you, moving cross town into one place; but they did it without complain, were of good humor, and all my stuff survived in tact! Highly recommend them. Its a fair price for someone you can really trust.

I had no idea movers could be this good! I was completely moved from my one bedroom in San Francisco to my new house in San Mateo in under 3 hours!!! All for $525. Money well spent! These guys are so fast, strong, professional and friendly. I don't think I've ever been happier with a vendor. Not a scratch on anything. And they moved each box into whatever room I wanted, arranged furniture for me, and let me borrow wardrobe boxes. If you need a mover, look no further. These guys are worth 10 stars!

I'm sad to burst everyone's bubble on Pat Ryan Moving and Storage, but I don't have much to say other than this: based on everyone's rave rave reviews I called them in March when I moved here to see if they could store all my stuff from San Diego while my BF and I look for a place. Left a message on the machine and didn't hear back. Chalked it up to maybe they are busy and called again a week later and never heard back. Called again last month and still no word. I know they are probably busy but in order to get more business I think returning calls would be a start! :(
Updated 6/21/2007
Ok Pat Ryan himself emailed me this morning and apologized for the slow turn time on return calls: I guess he is short staffed now and doing alot himself which means moving full day and then also running a business at nite and then also having a family with toddlers.
He called me this morning too after the email and is helping me find a new storage place (that I have access to-since his storage facility doesn't allow me to come in and out) and then also will help me move when I do find a place. Totally redeemed himself with me, after all we are only human and only do the best that we can, right?
Updated again 7/5/2007
Okay, he is 5 stars. Not only has he been calling me every day to help me figure out moving my stuff from Orange County to here, but he lined up and reserved a storage unit that I could have access to (his - you can't go to in and out of) he gave the phone #, contact name and pricing, so all I had to do was call in and give a credit card number! I love it. I can't take back the earlier gripes, but as stated in the second review, we are only human, and we do the best that we can with what we can.

I recently moved back to SF from San Jose to be closer to Yelp HQ. Everyone on Team Yelp told me I HAD to give Pat Ryan a call because he's the man. I have to say, I wasn't disappointed at all. Pat was friendly over the phone and worked out everything quickly. He asked for my current address and my new address (so he could do a drive by and check it out). He gave me an estimate over the phone and setup the date for a Saturday morning. I had no trouble booking a weekend move even though it was pretty close to the date.
When Pat and his crew showed up they got the job done quickly. I expressed some concerns about my new big screen TV but Pat said he never had a problem moving one so I declined the additional insurance. The TV arrived in perfect condition.
But... the unloading was a bit disorganized. If the stuff had been unloaded in a well-organized fashion it would've mostly fit in the second bedroom and the rest of the apartment would've been crap-free. Maybe this was somewhat my fault for not directing them to do this but it should be obvious -- get as much stuff out of the main living areas as possible so I can live my life while I make progress on putting my stuff away. Still, this is only a minor complaint and I would recommend Pat Ryan to anyone without hesitation.

I moved a two-bedroom apartment and a packed storage unit to my new house.
I got a specific estimate that was almost bang on. That seems unusual. They underestimated by about an hour, which I think is totally reasonable given that I underestimated my stuff by a bit.
The crew arrived early, worked efficiently, bantered playfully and took great care with our stuff.
I highly recommend these guys.

Not only is Pat Ryan one ot the easiest guys to talk to when moving, the man knows his sh*t. The crew that showed up for my move was prompt, courteous, attentive and knocked my 1 BR move out in less than 3 hours. They even offered this straphanger a ride over to my new place and engaged in some real conversation to boot. Oh and did I mention that all of the guys were either English or Irish?? It was an extra flavor to add to my day,
I've already recommended these guys to friends and work, and now thought I should spread the love with my fellow yelpers.
