    What a great salon.
My friend, Beverly,  has her hair cut by Lionel and colored by Trevor.
If I am looking to change salons in the future, I will surely pick Pastel as my choice.

So I made an appointment to cut my hair on my day off.  The only stylist available was Anthony. I was a beginner at Yelp so I just sorted by Stars instead of most reviewed. Omg freaking disaster. First of all I had to wait 20 minutes for Anthony to finish with his previous client. The cut was Blah. I think he was more of a colorist than a stylist. He even admitted it himself. He was nice but towards the end of the cut, I think his next appointment came in and he was like SO EAGER to finish my cut. As if he was commissioned or something and some other hair dresser is going to steal his client. Chill the fuck out. So he quickly blew dry my hair and I ended up looked like Michael Jackson. It was fucking ugly. Like straight but curly? Like this:

    http://www.blogcdn.com...

That pictures is a slight exaggeration but that's how i felt, fugly. Then he basically ditched trying to fix make my hair look nice after the cut. So I was like OK fine, can i borrow your hair dryer? He said sure. So I started blow drying my hair the way I want it. (Again, not a stylist)

Then he started chatting with his new client while he was washing her hair...the girl was like "OMG I HATE LONG HAIR, I always have short hair but my friends forced me to grow it out and now, LOOK AT THIS, its so uglyyyyyy"
Anthony responded: "OMG YEAH??? I DONT KNOW HOW PEOPLE CAN STAAAAAAAAAND LONG HAIR"

What the fuck? You just cut my hair. my hairs fucking long. Little bitch.
    Should NOT have tipped.

Now I go to Mercer Street - read their reviews. Dont go to Pastel

Oscar is awesome, he was patient and didn't rush. I have a ton of hair and he made sure it was all straightened and even. I will definitely be back! I just moved to San Francisco so I relied on Yelp to find a salon. I could not be happier.

I was able to get a hair appointment the same week I called (yay!) and am very happy with the results.

I saw Anthony who's very easy to talk to and a fantastic stylist!  He took the time to ask about my morning hair routine and what sort of brush I use before washing my hair.  My hair feels lighter and much healthier now.  Reasonably priced haircut downtown for $70.  Perks: You get free bang trims anytime!  They offer you tea to keep you hydrated while you get your hair done.

Awesome Eva wasn't available but not to fear 'cause awesome Lionel took over and gave me the fiercest bob I've ever had!

Can't say enough good things about Lionel: warm, friendly, good listener, meticulous, and an all around professional. He sure knows his craft. Plus he did all this from fuzzy pictures of Crush (wot, you don't know who she is?!) on my iPhone that I had downloaded just 10 minutes before (...some things never change).

As usual this salon hits the spot. It has tons of windows to check out the Grant/Sutter action, lots of light, Eufora products, a great vibe from the friendly staff, and the best receptionist in the history of salons who squeezed me in with Lionel at the last minute after I pouted a little bit. :-)

I was on holiday in San Fran and called Pastel to fix a bad haircut. I was given an appointment for the very next day with Oscar. The salon is in a cool old building on a top floor. I walked out of the elevator and into an open, light-filled, funky/casual, unpretentious atmosphere. The receptionist was very welcoming. Oscar was extremely kind and attentive as well as a terrific stylist. (You know you got a good haircut when a month later it still looks fabulous!) The entire experience was wonderful - next time I'm in SF I'll definitely go back to Oscar!

One of life's problems solved - Go to Debbie.  She does magic with her scissors.  I went to her for help with my heavy, thick, coarse, style-less  hair and left the salon with pep in my step; life just got a little better.

New to town, I needed a new stylist.  Thanks to Yelpers, I decided to try Debbie out after reading rave reviews about her.  I explained that I was incompetent in styling my own hair and she gave my hair style, shape and new life without any need to fuss with it.  I'm terribly lazy with my hair and my cut has been great - about as wash and go as it gets.

Oh, and Debbie has a lovely personality, a pleasure to chat with while she does her magic.

Salon has a great location.  Convenient and has great light, very comfortable.  Staff is good.

    - Time of appointment: Saturday @1pm right before Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day
    - Hair type: Past the shoulders, layers grew out, dry and damaged AND flat
    - Type of appointment: wash, trim, and a bit of styling
    - Hair Pro: Debbie: warm & friendly, outgoing and straight-forward, down-to-earth, lots of giggles and laughter
    - Decor: gorgeous views of Downtown SF, natural sunlight, cute and cozy
    - Staff: all smiles
    - Parking: Stockton and Sutter garage, right before the tunnel

The last time I got a hair cut was a little over a year ago. And the time before that, well let's just say my hair was down to my butt and the only "cut" i got was when I get outta the shower and flipped my whole head over and trim across. But I am one of those iffy people who never let anyone touch my hair.

I called the day before Valentine's Day AND it was a Friday at 10:45am. Talk about last minute. The girl who answered the phone told me if anyone cancels, she will call me back. Less than 20 minutes later, she called me back to tell me someone canceled and I took the appointment.

The place wasn't hard to find. I parked at the Geary garage right next to Crate&Barrel (the nice cashier informed me that Sutter and Stockton is closer and cheaper AUGH!). Right when I walked in, a few of the staff working on other's people hair smiled and one said hi. Within 2 minutes, Debbie greeted me with a warm and friendly hi and smile. I did not have to wait long while she finished her previous appointment. Debbie is THEE best. I love her, love her, love her!!! She immediately analyzed my hair and suggested how to keep it healthy. She proceeded to ask me what type of cut. I showed her a picture of a haircut and she told me exactly what she planned to do with my hair. Mind you, I have that Asian hair with that annoying middle part and lots of hair.

Debbie becomes your best friend while your are in her chair. Not that fake junior high best friend but talk-about-everything best friend. I asked about her and she asked about me. We clicked and I loved it. Amazingly, she never lost sight of why i was in her chair. She makes great recommendations on products and tips to maintain healthy hair. The end product: it is rare that you get the look you want but she made it happen. She listens to what you want and might need. She even went as far as asking me if I liked the scent of shampoo and conditioner. I paid about $110 for 4 hair products to repair my dry & damaged hair (besides I was running out of shampoo and conditioner). $75 for wash, piece-y layers, and a bit of styling. It takes a lot for me to come back and now I cannot wait to come back to her.

Debbie is so worth it (and worth trying). I mean, how often can you tell someone, "Can I put you in my pocket and take you home with me?"

I'd love to try to get a haircut here, but their web site doesn't mention hours, and neither does their answering machine message.  I'm not about to drive 1/2way across town to find a locked door.

Will tweak my score accordingly following a visit or a change to the current situation.

I'm damn picky about who I let touch my hair, because not just any stylist can cut asian hair. Debbie was recommended to me by a friend, she's truely great. I had a consultation before the hair cut and she wanted to know what my needs were in terms of my life style.  She asked me  questions about my commute time and what kind of sports I enjoyed, so that she could give me a hair cut that would best fit my life.  Since I met Debbie, my hair has never looked better. She's great at giving highlights and styling. If you want a diva look, she'll make you look like one.
NOTE: If you want a weekend appointment w/ her, I would suggest making it one month a head of time.

I'm a Nomad when it comes to salons- Yoshi for hair (before it was Gina Ghan), Red Door, Maiden Lane, and Eclipse.
Debbie at Pastels is so awesome, my first every highlights were with her and she made me look and feel "FABULOUS", and I've been getting highlights and haircut with her ever since and have gotten Oh, SO many compliments. Debbie is also very dedicated to her craft and it shows by her commitment to her past clients when she tries to accommodate last minute reservations request or when she makes sure that you are looking wonderful when you are walking out of her salon even though your not going anywhere but home.  She is booked months in advance but she is worth the wait.

I am a cheapskate when it comes to haircuts, like most guys are.

But once in a while, I go and get a pricier haircut, but somehow the cuts I get at those salons are not any better than what I get at my $18 place downtown.

For once, I'm pleased to spend $60, it was totally worth it, thanks to Anthony.  And he's a lot of fun to be around, so I'll be back!!

I visited Eva a couple years ago after a friend suggested her.  Eva is GREAT!  I have curly hair and I am particular as not all stylists are good with us curly folks.  Eva worked well with my curls, the texture of my hair and the length (long).  On top of having great styling skills Eva is social and friendly.

The ONLY reason I stopped going was the location.  Parking is a byatch.  The salon is clean and you have excellent views of downtown.

    I highly recommend Eva.

This is an awesome hair salon - I've been going to see Debbie for about a year now - and all I can say is she really can turn an ugly duckling into a swan. I even make the very long commute from Mountain View to San Francisco just to have her work on my hair.

Even though I don't really care too much about my hair, I just like to have cool stuff done to it (e.g. braids, faux-hawks, etc). But for some reason, every time I went to any other hair salon, I always ended up with unruly hair and cow licks protruding from all over my head, which did not get me much luck with the ladies.

So I turned to my fiancee for a recommendation (who actually approved of the horrible haircuts b/c it did not jive with the ladies) and she recommended Debbie, who has been just awesome. The first time I walked in, she asked me all these questions about my hair, which I suppose was in an effort to make my hair fit me, but I don't particularly care too much for that. Now, when I walk in, I just tell her to do something fun with my hair, which has recently led to a faux-hawk with some messy short bangs (something she likened to Chef Ramsay). Currently, we're working on growing out the mullet in the rear too. Overall, she really does a pretty great job with hair and has a amazing personality that only matches if not exceeds her remarkable skills with the scissors . For the books, I'm an engineer so dress code and appearances are not the mainstays of my success.

Not to mention, she has one super cute kid to boot. There's a few pictures to admire next to the mirror - that is if you're not too busy admiring yourself.

I've gotten several haircuts from Anthony and I've always loved them. It's hard finding a good place in Portland so whenever I come back home to SF and I need a haircut, I make an appointment to have my hair cut by Anthony. He has a great sense of humor and is very professional.

The staff are very nice and the receptionist is so cute. Anyone who loves Hello Kitty as much as I do is cool in my book! =) If you're looking for a cool place to get a haircut and don't wanna pay a lot of money, go see Anthony at Pastel. You'll love your haircut!

Rafiki, just gave me another amazing haircut. He just got back from training in LA, is up on what is happening with hair. Also sensitive to your needs in terms of hairstyle.
Went to a salon while in Seattle for my previous haircut, very big difference in detail, talent and technique.
Came to Pastel from Architects and Heroes--yes awhile ago, followed Peter here. Oscar is also great. Now Rafiki.
This is a solid salon of very talented cutters..Good value. I love Pastel and I don't care who knows it.

I love my hair person Eva Rodriguez and the salon. I am kind of picky about who I go to as I have sort of straight hair and detest fake looking highlights.

Eva is wonderful. She's a consumate pro, she's interested in making her clients happy and she's always up on the latest things. She got me to try a Keritin straightener process recently. I am so happy. It's natural and now I have super silky hair w/o having to blow it dry.

You will be happy you called her. I dumped my expensive maiden lane stylist years ago and my hair looks better and costs less...

Debbie is the BEST, hands down.  She styled all of the hair for my sister's wedding party about 8 years ago and I've been smitten ever since.  I'm a long to short cut girl and I usually only see her twice a year, but my cuts grow out well and don't really need a lot of maintenance.

She also styles two of my sisters, my best friend, a co-worker, and a friend of a friend....which is probably why it's so hard to get an appointment these days!

And that guy has PERSONALITY! Hair saloning can be a kind of boring process, for me at least, but was it fun having him glam me up b/c he was so engaged.

Mr H dug the style he sent me home with, even though it was straightened - a look he's usually not so into, though I certainly am - bonus! :)

I've been going to see Anthony at Pastel since he was still TRAINING. It's been 10 years. Pastel was still at their old location in Tillman Place, the little alley half a block down on Grant next to Azul...which used to be Rumpus.

I'm a regular easy going kind of guy, that just wants a good normal haircut. You/d think that Supercuts could get it right. But no.

I used to go to an old school barber on Church St until he retired. An old Filipino guy that was a World War II vet with pictures of him with his buddies in the south pacific. Great guy, awesome haircuts and he knw how to use a straight edge razor!

Since Terry retired I tried a lot of different places, I thought I was going to settle with the folks at Hot Headz on 24th St when a coworker told me about a guy she sees for her hair that's just starting out. I thought WHAT?! Me go to a salon!? WTF was my friend thinking? Anyway....thinking this has to be better than getting butchered at Supercuts, I'd give it a try.

My first haircut I have to save was simply amazing and they have been nothing less since then. Anthony was still on training then and Eva was keeping an eye on him. Eva made Anthony do my haircut entirely with scissorrs! No clippers....not even for the little fade I have.

It took him almost two hours, but he did it and did it exactly how I wanted. I've been going to Anthony since then.

In ten years I've had about 3 or 4 different styles and 4 colors. Each time was an awesome job.

I asked for a really DARK DARK blue....After 3 hours and a burning scalp (I Have SUPER black hair, it took 2 bleachings) I had this amazing dark blue hair. You could only tell it was blue under a bright halogen lamp or out in sun. It was awesome.

I've recommended Anthony to two ex girlfriends and several co-workers and they all still see him.

Even for being a regular guy who is just particular about how his hair is cut, it's worth getting a $40 haircut at a salon.

I don't know about anyone else, but  I work really hard to look GOOD--that is, my stylists work hard to help me look good...I have been going to Pastel now for the past seven years and I have never been disappointed.  I go for the same thing every time:  highlights, varying in hues and shades, and a haircut.  Trevor, my hair colorist, performs miracles with the inevitable pre-mature grey that invades my temples (my grandfather was totally salt and pepper by his 30th birthday)and is extremely talented.  He owns the place.  Good to know that he is an oenophile.  And Oscar Garcia, my stylist, is both pyschiatrist and Edward Scissorhands.  He is a great listener. It is so important to respect and trust your stylists...your image and self-image is in their hands.   I always feel fabulous when I leave this place.

I've been getting my hair cut by Anthony on and off for years. Everyone I know in my line of work, (art dealing), gets their hair cut by Anthony. Men and woman. My daughter, Jessie, used to get her hair cut by him, except she got pissed off cuzz he kept hitting on her. You loose a star for that Anthony. He likes to party and gamble. I watched him loose a bundle once at a Superbowl party at my house. It's sad to see a grown man cry. Most of the time he gives really good haircuts.

I decided to donate 12" of my hair to Wigs for Kids (http://www.wigsforkids...) and Debbie helped me with the daunting task of chopping off most of my hair.  She made me feel comfortable and picked out a cute cut for me.  Thank you Debbie for a short cut that is cute, chic, and fairly easy to style.  The only thing I can't get use to is waking up in the morning with my hair looking like a rooster.  I guess that's what they mean by bed head.  Oh yeah, the prices are on the higher end.

Pastel's is definitely a GREAT PLACE to go for haircuts...  and Debbie is the best one to go to...  Okay, so maybe I'm a bit biased...  Okay I'm A LOT BIASED... Debbie is my sister-in-law...  But even still, she is a very good stylist and very good at what she does.  The new location, even though it's not so new anymore, but it's a good place, nice and bright, unlike the other location.  And for those of you who commented on her son...  Thank you so much.  He is such a cute kid...  and I'm not saying that because he's my nephew.  He is such a GREAT KID...  I love him to pieces...

I am a bit biased when it comes to Pastel Hair Salon: My family has been coming here since forever, it seems. The salon was co-founded by Lionel Parisi and Trevor Jones, both of whom used to work at Vidal Sassoon in San Francisco. The Mother and The Sibling used to get their hair cut by Lionel Parisi since his days at Vidal Sassoon. They supported and followed him and Trevor to their own salon. Pastel Hair Salon was established at Tillman Place, that side alley street that resides along Grant Street.  Mr. Parisi decided he did not want to co-own the salon anymore and he sold his share to Mr. Jones, I believe.  When Pastel Hair Salon moved to its current location because of renovations/retrofitting/restructuring (I believe) of its former location, Mr. Jones sold the business to his (and Mr. Parisi's) former student/employee, Debbie Yeung.  Debbie Yeung is now the sole owner of Pastel Hair Salon.

I am a bit biased even more so since Trevor colours my hair and Debbie cuts my hair. (I am a rebel, I want my own stylist, nothing personal against Mr. Parisi.) Debbie learned from the best of the best, in my humble opinion.

Debbie has been very patient, very kind when it comes to me and to my hair.  I have been changing up on her a lot lately. From the bob to the short boy cut and now, we are going back to the bob again. I am trying to grow my hair and it get it styled to a medium length bob. Debbie is a friend, so when we get together, we talk about everything under the sun that we girls do. I love looking at any pictures that she has of her son. He is going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up, I tell you.

Trevor has been just as patient with me when it comes to haircolour and highlights.  I really tried his patience when I came into the salon every two weeks for awhile to go totally blonde, this lasted about three months. After an intervention by Trevor and Oscar Blandi between them, I was ordered to calm down and tone it down. For the spring and summer, it is brown with blonde highlights. For fall and winter, its brown with caramel lowlights.

Both Debbie and Trevor of them have been very understanding when I used to go to either Frederic Fekkai in Beverly Hills 90210 or Oscar Blandi 10021 to have my hair done. They have been interested in seeing what either of those salons do with my hair.  I am done traipsing to either NYC or LA, it is time to simplify.  Debbie and Trevor are exclusively helping me take care of my hair.  They both make my look great!

Now I am really dating myself when I remember the decor of Pastel Hair Salon.  At the old location, it was like a combination of a dungeon and/or a Hollywood dressing room for the ensemble and extras with the black lacquered hair stations, bright lights, and mirrors.  At Grant Street, it is open, calm, fresh and sunny.  Natural light.  Very open air. The very large windows that swivel open are great--yet they scare me, so I avoid being near them.

Five Stars to Debbie, Trevor, Lionel and the rest of the staff at Pastel Hair Salon.

I've been coming to Pastel's since 1997 and won't ever go anywhere else.  Anthony is simply the best.  He is very patient and always cuts my hair exactly how i want it.  He's very flexible with his scheduling and his prices are very reasonable considering the quality.  The salon is very clean and everyone is super nice.  I highly recommend this place and Anthony
