I truly enjoyed having dinner and drinks here last night! Of course I was actually waiting for friends when I received an email that I had been invited to the Elite Squad but I digress. Pasita is a Venezualan restaurant which is as much of a wine bar as it is a place for specialty pizzas. They have a brick oven which keeps the place nice and toasty and I love the very casual nature of the rustic decor. The staff knows their wines and although they didn't have Proseco, they had a very nice Rieseling! A friend and I shared a Jardinero pizza which had eggplant, squash and arugala. Although I arrived at 7, I didn't leave until 10:30 and I think that it wasn't only the great company but just the nature of being there.

It's great for a first date, business meeting after work and just a place to go to as you wander around the west village. I would start a night here prior to heading to the Meat Packing District! This was definitely a great treat and not pricey - perfect when you need to get ready for the summer!

Really good homemade individual pies unlike dominos.

I believe the pies are twelve inchs good enough for one individual but if you think you can share then by all means try.

I thought it was a bit pricey for a individual pie but then I realized it's all fresh.

This place is a gem.  Six of us had dinner there last night and we ordered five pizzas (Champinon, Ropa Vieja, Jardinero, LaReina, and Queso Valdeon) All of the pizzas were unique and delicious (especially the Queso Valdeon with honey).  My only complaint is that the appetizers and the chilled watermelon soup all came out at the same time.

I can't comment on the wine selection.  The music was a bit loud, but tolerable.  I'd definitely go back, especially since it is across the street.

Pros:
-The pizza, Jardinero ($14) was good.
 Ingredients were fresh.
-Palestra ($8/glass), white wine, was crisp and tasty. good for the price.

Cons:
-Waiters:  At least 15 minutes of waiting till a waiter took our order.
-Music was too loud to have a conversation over the table
Music like American top 40...for a "cozy" Italian restaurant...?
-Crowd of people blocking an area that we had to go through to get
to the main dining area.  It was just not organized to hold that king of
 party in the small space.
-Empanaditas ($9, 4 pcs.), pastries (supposed to be) filled with meet, was so small, almost no meat in it.  Very disappointing.

I walk by Pasita on the way to BL's place and never gave it a thought until we went there a week and a half ago.  Wow!  What a nice and intimate place that serves great food.  BL and I split the tropical ensalada and the empanaditas (assorted beef and chicken) before we were served the sopa de pollo (very good on that cold evening).  I will repeat myself.  The food was great and all reasonably priced.  The service was attentive and efficient.  BL and I will visit again and try the pizza.  GREAT STUFF!

If you're ever in and around the meatpacking district and say to yourself, what do I have to do NOT to dine on overpriced and underportioned entrees, next to d-bags and other bridge-and-tunnelers, then I say Pasita is a nice alternative.  It's pretty affordable, the decor is sexy and the brick oven pizza is good enough where your date will compliment your ability to find a below-the-radar spot among a slew of flashy-trashy-crassy restaurants and bars in the district that packs the meat.  While I would come back again, the food is not so good as to deserve 4 stars and the whole branding of the spot as a Latin-infused pizza place just doesn't make sense to me--it's just another one of those schticky ways that a NYC restaurant owner can charge you more for the same thing served on every corner in NYC, pizza!

The Ropa Vieja pizza was excellent. The Champignon pizza quite lousy. Wine list great.

Went there for one of their weekly wine tastings which was good but awfully miserly. There were all of four people who had showed up for it and the bartender, though friendly, literally poured not more than a sip. After two wines, he had us choose what our very last tasting would be because he couldn't go over 3 wines. Which I'd understand if there were a mob of us. Definitely was not good form for the situation. I've had bartenders at places give you more without the formality of a tasting! All in all, this place is fine. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

I sincerely love this place...the Sangria, the food, the atmosphere and the owners make this a great  West Village spot for meeting up with friends. I have tried most of the pizzas...but the Champignon is my fave. I also love the Malbec they have...I can always expect friendly service here.  Highly recommended!

P.S. On the second Tuesday of every month there is a Salon of NYC artists that gather there...and it's very entertaining to hear their thoughts on pop culture and such.

This place is great.  You would never have thought to even enter in here because of the unassuming location and entryway.  It is small, but very cute and large round tables which are good for groups.

This place has great pizzas from a big wood-fired oven.  We started off with some yuca fries with a chipotle aioli dip (or something like it) and arepitas to share.  The 6 of us shared 3 different pizzas: Margherita, Ropa Vieja, and Champignon.

The Margherita is basically it.  Very good.
The Ropa Vieja - probably our favorite.  With marinated beef, carmelized onions and marchega cheese.  Mmmm mmm good.  It wasn't overwhelming at all.
The Champignon pizza - very good.  It is a mushroom pie.

The crust is nicely thin and crispy.  You can't beat a wood-fire oven.

Ugh!  Disaster.  This is probably one of those bridge-and-tunnel places that gets by on the "charming" atmosphere that makes some NYC tourists think they are having some kind of "Greenwich Village Experience".  Pasita is laughing all the way to the bank.

I mean, come on!  The pizza (Champignon) was seriously worse than Pizza Hut.  There were quite literally 2 mushrooms on it, the artichokes were so stringy I had to spit them into my napkin, and the crust was stale.  And I'm not even in a bitchy mood - this is my rational "morning-after" voice.

And the glass of wine should have been advertised as "one-third-of-a-glass".

Wow!!  For the 30 bucks this fraud cost me, I could've gone to Pizza Hut and gotten a $25 bottle of wine somewhere and still come out way ahead.

The concept of this place is intriguing--South American-inspired pizza (think Ropa Vieja on thin crust). But surprisingly, it works well.

Skip the appetizers (the arepitas and empanadas were unsatisfying and far from authentic) and enjoy the wonderful pizza and wine. They offer a wide variety of pizzas with well thought-out combinations of toppings using ingredients that are both fresh and light. We ordered the Jardinero and the four cheese and loved both of them. Affordable too : ) Would easily go back and try any of the others!

I must comment, though, on our waiter whose pretentiousness and impatience were out of place in such a cute, romantic, and friendly place. How about a smile, buddy? I also thought his flip flops were a little weird and unprofessional for this place. Thank goodness the food is so good!

I met a friend after work last Friday at Pasita and we both fully enjoyed our nearly 3 hour dinner!  We grabbed a table around 6:30 with no problem. About a year ago we had been to Pasita and wanted to enjoy the same wine we had then - but couldn't remember the name.  The server was kind enough to bring over a small glass for each of us of the wine he thought it to be for a taste test.  Was it the same wine?  No idea, but it was just as good!

We ordered a bottle to split, the olives, the cheeseplate, and enjoyed it all.  A little later we split the pesto pizza.  Everything was excellent and it took us a while for us to finish up all that we ordered (as stated at the start...3 hours!)   There was no lip from the server about our lengthy stay.  I plan on going back for sure!

Went in on a Tuesday night.  It was half full but for some reason the bartender/owner dude insisted on seating us next to the bar.  The dirty table, with crumbs and food on it, mixed with the scent of body odor emitting from the bar area was too much to bear.

The menu looked interesting, too bad the service was lacking...

Do you like freshly baked, delicately seasoned flatbread?  Layer after layer of it, in big baskets, for FREE?   How about inexpensive glasses (and even more inexpensive bottles) of Spanish and Portuguese red, white and rose wines?   Are you a cheese freak?  Olive addict??

Can you deal with menu prices that seem almost cafeteria-like... food (especially creative, gourmet pizzas) that's delicious and well-presented being served to you by people who actually smile & are friendly,  well-mannered and attentive without hovering...and who don't rush you so they can stuff in a fresh crop of paying customers?

Would you be OK relaxing with a lively but not raucous roomful of 30- to 50-somethings in a narrow but deep entry bar-space (maybe 12' by 30') that widens a bit in the back if you need to come  sit down at a table with a group of maybe 8-10?   Inspired by a setting that features a reproduction of a brick wall from somewhere in Latin America that has the paint, graphics, and crevices (now adorned by candles) of the old  buildng it once adorned?   How would you feel about beautiful, soft, overhead multi-mini-chandelier lighting will make you look younger than you really are?   What do you think  softly-playing Latin background music could do for your slightly tense, after-work mood?

If any of the above sound appealing to you,  then cancel your reservations to some other more chi-chi, expensive and pretentious wine bar,  get yourself in a Latin frame of mind, and corra, no camine,  straight to Pasita.  !Aprovechese!

This is one place that I will always revisit when I'm back home in NYC. Owner Joel Zighelboim has done a superb job not only taking a somewhat narrow space and turning it into something authentic but also extremely inviting.

The food menu consists of some of the greatest pizzas I have tasted in years and the wine menu is sure to offer everyone the varietal or blend that suits them and their meal. If you have questions then just ask Rob or Ishmael for assistance and they'll take care of you.

Great ambiance, great food and great staff make Pasita a must for me every time I'm home!

Loved it, loved it, loved it!

We came in on a Friday night (without a reservation) around 9:00 and were starving, so when we were told we would have a 30 minute wait we decided to put in an order to go... we had a glass or so of wine at the bar while we waited.

We had one ropa vieja pizza and one champinon pizza - both were absolutely delicious.  The crust was just thin enough to be light but just sturdy enough to stand up to the toppings.  The meat on the ropa vieja pizza wasn't overpowering... and the caramelized onions... mmmmm!  Need I say more?

I can't wait to go again and actually sit down in there, try a different pizza or maybe the steak salad that looked so delicious... mmmmmm, steak....

Great local spot.  It's never too crowded.  Great date spot or for big groups. They can usually fit in a large group with short notice.  Excellent wine selection.  The cremosa salad is awesome.

The staff is super friendly.  I called on a Monday night for a reservation for the following night for a party of 8. It ended up being 15 of us and they seated us no problem and were extremely polite.  Was a great night.

Yummy food and really nice inexpensive wine.

A yelper and I split a La Hoya Pizza and a cheese plate and two glasses of the palestra 2003 (for only 8 dollars a glass!!!).  Let me start off by saying that I would order anything that I had last night again.

Pizza: They have a really nice brick oven and the pizza had a nice thin crust and a wood fired taste.  Also, the pizza was made with quality ingredients and had a good sauce to cheese ratio.

Cheese Plate: The selection was pretty good, not amazing, but definitely solid. All of the chesses were from either Spanish or Portuguese  and were served on some sort of stone or slate...pretty cool.  I can't remember exactly which cheeses we were given, pretty standard a firm cheese which actually tasted like parmaggiano reggiano, a bleu with honey, and some goat's milk cheese served with cut up pita.

Wine: Super Cheap and a very good list. We had the cheapest red on the menu and it was great, especially for the price.

This is for sure a cute date spot and a great place to start off your evening if you are planning on staying in the area.

As for my evening out...this might have been the most normal part of it, which is a good thing.  I'd tell you the story but I'm not sure you'd believe me...

I agree with the reviews that I wouldn't travel far and wide to visit Pasita but it's consistently solid food.  My friend and I shared a pitcher of the Tamarind Sangria which was really tasty - it wasn't too sweet which was a good thing.  I had the margarita pizza (I was in a simple mood last night) and it was fine.  I felt like I could have gotten the same quality pizza anywhere, but my friend had the pizza with pesto, veggies, arugula and cheese and it was super yummy.  After one bite of hers I totally regretted my simple minded decision.  Ah well, next time I'll go that route!

I don't get the negative reviews about this place and can only imagine they are posted from owners of rival bars in the hood that are pissed Pasita's so damn popular. Pasita is a wonderful West Village hangout in my neighbourhood - the wine list is intriguing and the pizzas are Venezuelan inspired. It's my local so I go here a lot and I've never had a bad experience just a great, great time. My only disappointment is that I'm currently Atkinsing, so a lot on the menu is off for me right now :-) Although they do this grilled beef salady thing which is pretty damn good.

Pasita is named after a fortified banana wine from Venezuela.  The owners grandfather chose this name for her restaurant that serves what I would call Latin American influenced pizza.

We started with appetizers, tostones and arepitas.  Both were very good.  The green pepper salsa and guasacaca that accompanied these was fresh and tasty.

Then we tried three different pizzas.  The Jardinero, La Reina, and Ropa Vieja.  For the three of us, I think we ordered one too many.  All three have strong flavors and they didn't pair up well together.  Individually, each was great.  My favorite was the Ropa Vieja - spiced beef, carmelized onion, manchengo, and red pepper.

The space is small but not crowded.  The bar is intimate and the pizza oven is open to view.  The wine list is excellent.  If you like Spanish and Latin American wines, they have a nice list.   Best of all, it is inexpensive.  The pizzas run $10 to $15.

Make a reservation, the place fills up fast!

I love Pasita....I have eaten there many times in their one year existence.  Great Pizza,s and apps....fabulous wines for not $ 9 a glass (hard to find in this city).  My only problem is it always smells like burnt oil or the hearth in there....

My favorite pizza is the champignon and the carminiere wine is excellent.

Tasty pizza. (Get the one with the mountain of greens on top). Nice wine. Low-key atmosphere. I've been in several times with my little kids. Come early and the kids can watch the brick oven in action in the back of the room. It's great spot on the commute home from the subway when you don't want to cook, but you don't want to deal with a big production number for dinner.

True, this is a small space, but its not congested. its pretty well laid out. a nice place for a date. as far as the food goes, their menu is not too large, but the pizzas and the small plates are both good. the champinon pizza is very good. i think its their most often ordered pizza too. i do regret not trying la reina and jardinero, but i plan on trying them soon. the tostone was sub par and the taquitoes translate into mozarella sticks. the other items on their small plate menu are good though. they have a pretty knowledgeable waitstaff about wines. one of the waiters was telling us that the place is sort of named after a type of banana wine from Venezuela. they sometimes have it available when relatives bring it from south america.

Finally good thin crust pizza with quality ingredients in my hood!  Love the comination of ingredients on their pizza, especially the spicy beef w/manchengo cheese (indicative of its origination from Italy via South America).  Good wine selection to go along with great pizza in a casual, friendly environment.

I can't believe for almost 2 yrs of living in the W Village I walked by this place and didn't bother to check it out...despite my constant wondering how I couldn't find any good classic brick oven italian pizza in the neighborhood. Sometimes you want the NYC cheezy slice of pizza but when you want Italian style thin-crust pizza, try La Pasita. Love the La Joya and the Margherita and Pepperoni are consistently reliable with fresh good quality ingredients. Service is nice, delivery is quick and as a nontraditional bonus, the yuca fries are great!  I am very happy with my new neighborhood find.

This is my favorite neighborhood place. Really smart and amiable bartenders. A warm rustic-yet-urban vibe throughout the room. Interesting wine list --- some tasty South American wines. Pizzas and appetizers are usually perfect. There's also something really good that I can't quite explain scientifically about the acoustics --- I mean there's not a whole lot of square footage and not a lot of room between tables, and the room is not one open square, but even when it's very crowded you can still have a very intimate conversation and you feel your table is in a quiet and cozy space.
