One more review for Paseo! Get the Midnight Cuban! It's one of the best sandwiches I've had. Roast pork, smoked ham, sauteed onions, swiss cheese and sweet peppers in a toasted crunchy baguette....Mmmmm.
Other favorites of mine are:
Smokin Thighs sandwich
West Caribbean Bowl
Prawns in Rojo sauce over rice
and, Pollo salad
You probably can't go wrong with any of their menu items. It's all so good!
Warning! The lines here are really long. So, be prepared to wait. There is also not much seating so be prepared to take food to go if necessary. I like to take my sandwich down to the canal and eat by the water when the weather is nice. -

I don't like to mess up a good thing so I have never tried anything but the Cuban roast. I love everything about this sandwich, the pile of onions they put on it to the little spice from the jalapenos. Now I'm sure their other sandwiches are just as good but I just can't bring myself to try something else.
Only con about this place is that it's not open year round. They close for a few weeks and you better not have a craving because there is nothing that compares. -

Can I give it 6 stars please?
My mind is rarely tickled by good food. This place blew my mind. The sandwich was exploding with flavor, and the meat was unnaturally tender. The soup, salad and corn cob that accompanied it were out of this world. Till date when I recall my last meal at Paseo I travel in time and lose touch with reality. -

My god. My god My god MY GOD. Fourth time being here and it just keeps getting better and better. I got the scallop sandwich and it melted in my mouth...and all over my face. Seriously, it's messy. It is worth it, though. It's because of Yelp that I checked this place out, so I am returning the favor. Engage your palates, people!
Minus one star for extremely limited seating. Since it was a beautiful day, we were able to sit on the curb and enjoy the sun, though. -

I came here for my birthday because it's so good!
Like some other reviewers, I've only tried the Cuban roast even though I've been meaning to try some of their other sandwiches. -

Super Duper Delicious Sandwiches!!! Midnight Cuban and Cuban Roast were beyond awesome the first time my sister and brother in law introduced them to my taste buds. I'm from LA and this weekend, I went to go visit my sister and bro-in-law in seattle and I was REALLY looking forward to getting some PASEO! I was extremely disappointed when I found out that they were on vacation right before we were going to get lunch. So saddddd! What entire restaurant closes for such a long vacation?!?!!?!? I will be back and possibly booking my flight around their vacations next time. :( SO SADDDDD. :( If it weren't for their vacation, they would've received 5 stars from me...

If you want delicious, filling, and affordable, look no further. Than the line. Bring cash. But seriously, this is the real deal, never had a bad meal here. no better sandwiches in 100+miles, probably more.

Yes, a 5-star. I just love writing 5-star reviews!!
Well, it was our first trip to Seattle. Our friends took us to Fremont where Paseo is located. OMGosh, freakin' tasty. Besides Miami, I think Fremont's got the best Cuban sandwich. The pork is to die for. I cannot stop thinking about it.
The Cuban Roast pork is marinated to absolute perfection. It makes an unforgettable sandwich! Oh and the pickled jalapenos and caramelized onions make the sandwich that much more flavorful.
And then there is the Havana Seared Scallops sandwich. For all you non-meat eaters, this is it man! The scallops are pan seared in olive oil, Paseo's garlic tapenade, and tossed with fresh cilantro - order it spicy on a scale of 1 to 5. We ordered 3. MMMMMMMmmmmmMMM!

I love sandwiches, and this is pretty much my favorite.
You should bring no more than 3 people. It's very hard to find seats especially if you come during busy hours. I think they should make the placea little bigger, but I don't mind. I come simply for the sandwiches. -

PASEO! At first glance I knew this place was going to be good because there was a line. Luckily I only waited for about 10 minutes. The Midnight Cuban Sandwich was amazing! All the flavors in this sandwich came together so well. The pork was cooked really well and the sauces along with the huge caramelized onions made the sandwich sooo good. I also shared the West Caribbean Bowl which looked really appetizing but wasn't that great because it had too much rice and beans. If I lived in Seattle, I would stop by Paseo weekly or maybe even daily for their Midnight Cuban Sandwich.
Make sure you have cash because this place is cash only and be prepared to wait a bit for a seat if you're planning on eating there. -

Their food quality is great, but that is NOT a traditional Cuban sandwich. It's the only thing I miss about south Florida....

I have been to Paseo's twice now. If there was one closer to my house, I would eat there probably three times a week.
I had the Midnight Cuban sandwich. It is to die for. The pork is juicy and succulent with incredible flavors. The caramelized onions are perfect for this sandwich and the banana peppers balance out the flavor with a little bit of sweetness. The bread is wonderful, crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. It is probably one of the best cuban sandwiches I have ever had and I lived in Florida for over 10 years.
I have also had the Cuban Roast sandwich. Incredible. The fresh cilantro and their aioli take the sandwich to another level beyond excellence. The pork is tender, flavorful and juicy.
I get the sense that I could never have a bad meal here because everything looks delicious.
Two things to say that are criticisms, but are so tiny there is no reason to take away any stars. Yes, the place is small, like 4 or 5 tables and they only take cash. So when you go, prepare to stop at the ATM first and be prepared to take your sandwich to go. -
Review from Tim C.
The Cuban Roast Sandwich is spectacular. Excellent bread - nice and crusty but chewy-soft as well. The mayo is what puts this sandwich above and beyond others - there is just amazing flavor in the mayo. The grilled onions only add to the awesomeness. The meat itself can be a bit dry if eaten by itself, but the mayo makes up for any dryness when eating the whole sandwich.
There is very limited seating space, but I could eat this sandwich anywhere and still be happy. It is that ridiculously good. -
Review from Colin D.
It is hard for me to overstate how good Paseo is. They make the best sandwich I have ever eaten and pretty much every other person I've taken here agrees. I don't care what they put in them, how many calories they have, how long you have to wait or anything else, it's worth it.
I always get the prawn/shrimp sandwich with the exception of when the fish one is tuna. If you get a chance to get their seared tuna sandwich it's out of this word even beyond the usual. My wife loves the pork sandwich too.
The lines can get long--especially at lunch--so, expect to wait a bit and, on occasion, I've been there for a late lunch only to be told that that they had run out of sandwiches. Some people tell me that if you call the order in ahead you can just walk by the line and pick it up, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet.
All in all, this place is one of the absolute musts in Seattle. -

First of all: ITS CASH ONLY !!
While there I saw like 10 people having to walk out to the ATM which is 2 blocks away because they only had a card!!
But seriously, aaaahh Paseo, how I wanted to like you- wait no, love you. Everyone gives you rave reviews and everyone is in love with you. I wanted to feel that love!
We ordered the Midnight Cuban and the Grilled pork which are supposed to be the most popular sandwiches. Dont get me wrong, the sandwiches are good but I wasn't blown away. It was messy and I felt I needed more chile and a little excessive on the grilled onions.
Maybe I'm just spoiled since I've had a Cuban sandwich while visiting MIA and I always compare it. But at least I gave it a chance.
The service was so friendly and the place was so clean, even the bathrooms were clean. For the amount of people going in and out of that place I was so surprised!Listed in: Eating my way through Seattle

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my 26 years of a foodie, sandwich-loving existence. It's especially telling, because I tried Paseo's shortly after a really filling brunch and was in no mood to gorge on a huge sandwich. Thank goodness I did. Because, seriously, gloriously delicious.
So good, I wanted to slap myself while eating it. So good, I think I . . . did . . . slap myself. So good that if you happened to have been in the area and knew about it, but didn't bother trying it, you should definitely slap yourself. SO GOOD that even if you didn't know about Paseo's existence or their infamous sandwiches, huge and stuffed to the brim with deliciously marinated pork (cuban roast - tender, fatty pork shoulder on a crunchy roll that's nice and fluffy-solid-moist on the inside with a delicious savory spread and just the right amount of greens) . . . you should slap yourself anyway.Listed in: sandwich sex

NOT OVER HYPED.
I moved to Seattle a few months ago and have heard so many people tell me how amazing this place was that I was almost expecting to be let down. My expectations were sky high and I have pleased to say that I was not disappointed.
There was no line at 11:30 bu there was absolutely no place to sit in this tiny establishment so plan on grubbing somewhere else.
We ordered the midnight cuban and the 1/2 chicken dinner:
- Midnight Cuban: AMAZEBALLS. I do NOT like sandwiches.. and I loved this. The banana peppers and jalepenos really did the trick and provided a nice kick to this sloppy sandwich. Make sure to grab a ton of napkins! The bread was also above average and with the juices soaked in, it was totally bomb.
- 1/2 Chicken Dinner: Don't let the boring name fool you. This was the most yummy chicken I've ever had. It came with rice, beans, and a salad and could have fed a whole army of hungry soldiers. The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. I think I may have liked it better than the sandwich. Will need to back and try other dishes taht incorporate this chicken cause it was SO good.
Totally worth it and a must go if you're in the area -

OHMAN. Seriously one of the BEST sandwiches I have ever eaten in the 19 years I have lived. Small place which makes it a little hard to find but definitely easy to find once you see the line that goes around the block. The wait isn't as bad as it looks and it is seriously so worth the wait. Juicy sandwiches, exploding with toppings and meat. Makes a mess to eat but YOU NEED TO TRY IT. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

This is another one of those "how the hell have I not reviewed this place yet?" sort of moments.
Oh Paseo, how I love thee. Hands down the best sandwich round these parts. It's the kind of place that is sort of a dream for any restaurant owner... a long standing reputation that begs for lines.
Where this place shines is irregardless of their fame and reputation, they continue to impress, the quality of their sandwiches are top notch and the flavors are perfect, the right amount of spice and flavor to keep me coming back.
When it comes to my personal favorites, I usually go for the Cuban Roast. Perfectly marinaded pork shoulder that just tastes like it's melting. Hands down my favorite and also one of the sandwiches that sells out the quickest. In my most recent visit, I decided to try something new! I needed some grub "post tattoo day" and I couldn't imagine any other place better for the job than Paseo. I tried the Havana Seared Scallop sandwich. Overall, the scallops were seared to a perfect texture and the flavors melded excellently. While it doesn't take the top spot in my stomach/heart, it was a good choice... especially since I do love scallops.
COME HERE! EAT HERE! NEVER GIVE IT UP!

#1 Cuban Roast $8.50 - my favorite
Soft, pulled pork, sweet perfectly carmelized onion, creamy garlic mayo, jalapenos are a must.
#2 Midnight Cuban Press $8.95 - my alternate
Peppers are lovely and sweet, with the roasted pork covered with oozing swiss cheese blanketed by smoked ham.
Amazing baguette. Pass on the chicken. 1 sandwich was plenty for me. definitely worth the wait. Best if you can get there right before the lunch rush! Take to go because you wont want to eat there with people hovering over you. -

price/portion ratio: The price can vary anywhere from around $8 to $12 between sandwiches and entrees, but Paseo's is really known for their sandwiches and so my review is focused on the experience of that. It's a little pricey for a sandwich, however anyone who has been there will tell you it's well worth the money spent. 3 stars on my Budget Bites scale.
location/parking: Fairly easy to find, but they don't have a parking lot and so you'll have to battle the locals for a spot. Parallel parking is fun! Amaze your friends with your expert driving and parking space spotting prowess.
selection/presentation: Great selection, but presentation? Hmm how would one present a sandwich.. On a silver platter served by beautiful women? Yeah.. theirs comes on something similar to what you would expect from a Chinese food court and isn't served by a model girlfriend, but maybe a model citizen? either way their sandwiches are good so you won't complain about the presentation.
flavor/quality: Flavor is as tasty as it gets and the quality is consistent. Make sure and get there early because they are known for selling out of their most popular sandwiches.
environment/ambiance: The environment is super fast paced and lively, but the shop is really small and can only seat maybe 12 people and so don't expect to get a seat there if you're going during a lunch rush.
Overall, Id say go there, go there now! And buy me a sandwich too!!
My Budget Bites scale:
5 stars $6 or less
4 stars $8 or less
3 stars $10 or less
2 stars $12 or less
1 star $12 or more -

I finally made the stop to Paseo and got the Cuban Roast and Midnight Cuban. It was delicious!
We got there early right when it opened around 11 am. There were already people eating. Thankfully we got there pretty early to get a table. It is a very small restaurant so by the time we were done the line was out the door and people were waiting for our table.
The cuban roast is more spicy compared to the midnight cuban which was more sweet with banana peppers.
Definitely will be going back for more sandwiches, I would go right when it opens though to avoid having to wait in line. -

Review from Amy N.
Ok call me blasphemous, but I've tried this place twice and was never as impressed as everyone hypes this place out to be. When it comes down to it, I think it's just personal preference. The ingredients are fresh and good but I personally don't like the excessive mayo used, and the bread is too hard for me. I prefer more crispy, less doughy, and less chewy bread.
I had the Cuban Roast the first time and I liked the juicy meat. But again, the bread and mayo bothered me. The second time, I had the scallop sandwich, which I preferred over the Cuban Roast because it was less heavy. They were very generous on the scallops and it was more flavorful to me. But again...I don't like gnawing on the bread and the mayo actually made me feel very sick after.
Maybe I'll try getting it without mayo next time. -

What can I write that hasn't already been written?
For a visit in Seattle, I know I had to come here, and order the #2, like a boss. I must have come right before the dinner rush, because when I ordered, there was one other person in this small space, but by the time I finished my sandwich, there was a line of more than 15 people and not a single seat to be had.
Granted, I am an incredibly slow eater, but I will not be held accountable for wanting to savor every last bite - from the crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside baguette, to that delicious mayo, meat, and giant grilled onions.
All I wanted to do was come back, but alas, it was only one stop for me. I wouldn't mind selling that sandwich all across America though. -
Review from Leah H.
I don't care if this place has a billion and a half reviews already; Here's another 5 stars for Paseo.
Every visit to Paseo holds operatic level of emotions for me.
The tension is high as I travel to get there, will they be open? The anticipation grows as I wait in line. And then anger, frustration - no spot to sit. Confusion - where did I put my number?
Excitement, glorious, soprano, glass-breaking happiness when I take that first bite.
And then I weep when an caramelized onion piece escapes it's crunchy bread and meat companions and tumbles to the ground.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Extra awesome points for providing the very necessary hand wipes! -

Oooo.....emmmm......geeee. The Cuban is by far the best thing I have ever put in my mouth!
The suspense of them still having baguettes for sandwiches kills me every time but I take the gamble anyway. Quick Tip! They usually run out before 2:00pm on Saturday.
Once you unwrap the crisp white paper covering this beautifully toasted baguette with succulent pieces if pork shoulder and the glistening caramelized onions pouring out of the sides. You'll know your in for an orgasmic experience.
Your last bite is as AMAZING as your first. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it.
I have not dared to try anything else as I think I would be utterly disappointed in myself for two timing my favorite but I am sure everything there is as amazing as their Cuban.Listed in: Quick Bites

Wow- with over 1000 reviews, I am not sure what else to say except Midnight Cuban Press. Best shit EVER!!!!
The carmelized onions and the aioli RULE!!!!
I am from SF. We have good food. This sandwich is the kind I will be craving next week, and not be able to get, and then I will be sad faces. Now I need to be on a mission for this type of sandwich where I live. -

A little late but better than never, review from visit Oct 2011
For all you Paseo virgins....remember this one tip when you go there....
if you are standing in line and vascillating between which of their two famous sandwiches to get.....hands down the Midnight Cuban Press wins over the Cuban Roast each time! Or do what I did the first time and make your friend order one and you order the other and then you get a little of both =)
Restaurant review: this is NOT a restaurant...there are 3-4 tables with plastic chairs, so if it's a nice day take a little stroll down to Greenlake and enjoy your sandwich....if you are lucky enough to squeeze into a table, all those waiting in line will watch with envy as the fragrant oils from the sandwich drip down your arms =)
Onto the Midnight Cuban.....the acidity from sweet banana peppers combined with the slow roasted pork...combined with richness of the ham/swiss cheese make this sandwich the better of the two....I know what it says on the board that the Cuban Roast is the most popular....but unless your a minimalist....I say give the Midnight Cuban a go...you won't regret it!
THIS IS A SIDE NOTE...for the sandwich junkies...if ever in San Francisco...please hunt down the Roli Roti Porchetta sandwich.....ranks even higher than the paseo sandwiches for me! -

Best damned sandwiches in town. The basic #1 pork is my fave, chicken when I feel like giving my arteries a slight break. I tried the Cuban Roast once and could not stand the texture of the meat; chewing it was like nails on a chalkboard to my teeth...but that's me :) If you like really soft, stringy meat then go for it. The dinners are great too. Love the black beans.
The Ballard location is generally less crowded than the mothership in Fremont but people are getting wise to that so peak hours can be bad in Ballard too.
I just wish the owner would turn the Fremont joint into a place that could accommodate the masses that flock there. Every remodel over the years has done ZERO to seat more people or provide any increase in amenities. So count on waiting in a line out the door in the rain to get anything for lunch, and then eat it somewhere else. -

Paseo is amazing. Go there and see what we've all been talking about. If sandwiches are your thing, this is not to be missed. Get the sauteed possum sandwich, or the coon dog. Nah, I just kidding, the prawn, pork or plain onion are excellent choices. You could just breathe the air and be happy there. Great job, seattle.

Review from Scott O.
Sandwich: "#2 Cuban Roast" - Paseo's most popular offering, shredded, marinated pork shoulder with aioli served on a Macrina baguette.
Ingredients: "A" for flavor - the savory-sweet marinade brings out the flavor of the pork, and I haven't tasted anything like it. Kudos also for the piquant aioli. The bread had good flavor as well.
Execution: "D" Another textbook example of the Seattle Sloppy Sandwich. I was unable to take a bite which gave me all the ingredients at once - pork, lettuce, aioli and bread. Shouldn't be too hard, right? But here, everything was slipping around. The bread has a hard crust and a not-very permeable interior, so even a light toasting means the pork and juices didn't meld with the bread. Despite the bread's toughness the bottom fell out so the final third of my sandwich was eaten with my fingers. The pork shred was wildly uneven and my pork had a lump of fat the size of my thumb. The onion was cut in large chunks designed to add to the slippage. The lettuce was a single large leaf which threw everything off track because it didn't fit into the bread. The result? A bunch of good ingredients thrown together unevenly and which created an unholy mess.
Would I go back? If I was in the neighborhood and there wasn't a line, probably. I would ask them not to grill the bread and send it back if turned out to be a sloppy mess. Paseo knows how to cook pork, but the kitchen's sloppiness is keeping the sandwich from being the life-altering experience it could be. -
Review from Kathy W.
Recommendation from my cousin who resides in Seattle. I was a little apprehensive since I haven't had good experience with restaurants featured on TV. However I'm glad Paseo is an exception because it's a great choice but be ready for a MESSY meal. You will definitely need more than 3 recycled paper napkins.
Cuban Roast:
- very toasty bread; semi-hard to get the first bite
- pork is very tender and easily pulled apart
- onions are very oily but grilled well
- lots of mayo but definitely add more flavor to the sandwich
- great balance of veggies, protein, and carbohydrates with tons of tasty saturated fat
- enjoyed every bite
Environment/Service: Very small shop with about 5 tables seating roughly 14 people. May be difficult to find a spot inside at certain hours of the day. Casual dining. The lines can also get pretty long. Bus your own table. Wipe tables with the sanitary wipes.
Random: Food is served on Chinese plates and bowls. Hippies enter through the side door.
- CLOSED Sundays and Mondays.
- Cash ONLY.
Overall, definitely would recommend this place if you like sandwiches. Paseo makes the list of one of the best sandwiches I've had in addition to Ike's Place in Northern California (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Must eat this sitting down or you'll have juices down your arm and walk into something as you focus too much on your sandwich. It's basically the equivalent to a Vietnamese sandwich but Cuban-style. Just a bit weird that they serve the food on the Chinese plates. Identity crisis? Nonetheless this Chinese likes this place and would come back again if given the opportunity. -
Review from Henry T.
Waited 30ish minutes for this. That's not a complaint, either. It was well-freaking-worth it! I got the Cuban Roast and that was the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. Better than my own people's Vietnamese Sandwiches. Maybe I was hungry. Nah, it was just that damn good.
The bread is pretty hard. Toasted well, but I think it suits the meat and sauces well. They load your sandwich with A LOT of mayo, though. I felt bad eating it, but the sandwich was so good I just seemed not to care. They grill the onions and leave it in the sandwich with all the juices still in there. mmmmmmm! The pork was great, soft, tender and breaks apart in your mouth with each bite. This restaurant was my favorite of my Seattle trip!
The restaurant itself is very tiny. With the amount of customers they get, you'd be lucky to find a seat. HIGHLY recommended--my favorite food outing while I was in Seattle! :)
TIP: If you're in a group, have one or two people stand in line for everyone and the rest wait around for a table. It's really hard to get a table in such a small, yet popular, place.
TIP: Cash only!
PARKING TIP: We drove around the block to find parking. You'd only find parking in front of the store if someone leaves...'cuz just as one person leaves, another would come in. Good luck! -

Alright... I would've never known about this place if a friend never showed me.
It's pretty much "hidden" in between the "slight ghetto" of Fremont. If you drive by, you won't see it. I was utterly confuse when we arrived, but what told me that I was here was the line. I thought people were just standing around for a few seconds... Until it hit me...
I had the pork and chicken sandwiches (cut in half and shared), corn, and beans.
I thought everything was great. There's so much onion, and perhaps one or three rings of jalapeño. I thought the pork was a bit better; wasn't as dried as the chicken. I LOVE the bread that they use. I would eat the bread, alone.
I wasn't too big of a fan for that super small cob of corn. But I love their chili beans. I recommend slathering your sandwich on that.
It's a messy eat. Grab back up napkins or a new bottle of hand sanitizer. -

Do I even need to review this place that already has 4.5 stars on yelp? I have been hearing about Paseo for over a year (ever since I began visiting Seattle) and I finally made it out on a Saturday before noon to get in line for one of their famous sandwiches. We ordered and split one Cuban Roast and one Midnight Cuban Press then hit up the liquor store for some micro brews and found ourselves sitting at Green Lake for a beautiful lunch. Must do that again soon - sandwich was scrumptious!
Cash only and no beer. Arrive early before they run out of bread! -

Exotic and great. I am a fan of different types of unique subs. This is certainly it. If you go here be warned you will almost be guarantee to have and stand and wait as this place is almost always packed and theres about 4 tables. The sandwhichs are big messy and good. the sandwhich in of itself is 5 stars no doubt but the fat that its still so small and no seats and you have to wait outside in potentially the rain in seattle is draw back. If you are willing to wait buy it.
