In my quest for the perfect Indian restaurant I have come to the conclusion that Pasand is my third favorite place to eat dosas and nan.
The service is good and the place is fairly big, I have never had to wait. Their dosas are the best. Absolute yummy goodness. Chicken Masala is awesome but I pretty much love everything. Thali meal is the way to go because it is too difficult to decide on individual items and it is less expensive. Eating there is one of my few pass times. I could do consecutive lunches there for sure. -

The Reddy family currently operates numerous apartment complexes the Berkeley area under the names "Reddy Realty", "Raj Properties", "Everest Properties," and Pasand restaurants in Berkeley and Santa Clara. -

Katharine C said it well -- this place belongs on the boycott list.

Maybe the whole family isn't guilty, but you'd think they'd take steps to distance themselves from the name of a man charged with murder, kidnapping, and sexual slavery.
Try Udupi palace if you're looking for good Indian food in the South bay. ( http://www.yelp.com/bi... ) -

The worst Indian food I've ever had. The lack of customers reflects this.
The food is pretty bland. The service is poor. It's not very clean.
Furthermore, I will no longer be returning as I recently discovered the horrific acts this family has caused- sex trafficking with minors and abuse. I do not support the family's actions and will NO LONGER patronize here. I am beyond disgusted that the family was able to get away with murder because they're wealthy. -

I grew up in the area so I've been going here for years. Having gone again just recently and had all the other times to compare.. I really feel like they're not as good as they used to be.
When last we were there, my biryani was too oily, as was the curry sauce that came with it. My SO's lamb curry was also oily... and both lacked depth of flavor. Also, my chai was served to me nearly cold and had too much milk. VERY disappointing... that's always my special treat at the end of the meal.
I've had better luck here with dosas and other South Indian dishes. If I go back, I'll stick with those. -

Yummy. We had an excellent tasting menu here last night and it really was quite fab! Among my favorites, the chilli chicken, lamb curry, baigan burtha (eggplant...mmm), and fried okra. The kulfi was a great dessert too, even though I barely had room!
Only thing is, it is very out of the way for anyone not in this area...I probably would not agree to a 40 minute drive for dinner again...but should I be in the area, I will definitely come back! -

Did they re-open it? Because last time I heard, it was closed. You can see the reviews at:

This place was (and probably still is) by Lakireddy Bali Reddy, convicted sex trafficker and pedophile. I wouldn't eat there.

Still one of my favorite Bay Area reastaurant for Indian food. The location is convenient, the food is good, and the service has always been great. I've been visiting for the last 15 years, and it continues to be the best.

Decent food, high prices. Same owners as the one in berkeley - which means depending on how you feel about sex slave trade controversy, you may want to avoid this place. If you have no idea what I am talking about, google Lakireddy Bali Reddy.

Before reading about the Reddy family history, Pasand was my first taste of Indian food. I was 19, closed minded and somewhat forced to try! lol. My director/boss took me to lunch and I really didn't have a choice on the venue. I sucked it up and tried chicken masala. I LOVED IT! I went back many times over the years but have expanded my horizons to other Indian restaurants - as well as going to India and having the real deal. I read below that they closed down which may be a good thing. I used to think the sex slave thing was a rumor. :(

Truly an excellent find. Pricey food, but very delicious, good service. Try the Thali meal for a little of everything. I'm not sure how authentic it is, though.

Either lunch or dinner. When I want my curry fix and I don't want it buffet style, the Pasand is a great place for white linen Indian dining. The service is very fast and I have always enjoyed my tasty curry dishes here for years. The ambiance is nice and large. On a few nights long ago, there was live Sitar music too.

It's a pretty good restaurant - pretty good food. I went with Indians and they claim it to be pretty authentic.

I've been eating at Pasand's ever since I was a little kid (for the past 20 or so years) and I have always consistently enjoyed the food and service. The re-model they completed a few years ago is really nice! I find the decor authentic and tasteful.
