THE BEST SANDWICH I'VE EVER HAD.
I ordered the turkey and it was a little dry but my boyfriend got the CORN BEEF and it was DELICIOUS!!! It was an explosion in my mouth! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! I LOVED their coleslaw too!!
The sandwiches are big enough to split with someone. They do not cheat you on the meat either. The sandwiches are packed with goodness.
GOOD PRICE for REALLY GOOD FOOD.
I LOVE this place! -

Been coming here since they opened 17 years ago! Always love the home-sized sandwiches. I love how they just make them like you would at home and not weigh out the meat! Very tasty and big portions here!
On occasion, I have encountered some meat that was dry, but for the most part, a good experience overall. Try the Reuben or the chicken salad sandwich. -

I ordered Trust the Cook because curiosity got the best of me... even splitting this sandwich with my brother got me more than full. Today, the sandwich of the day was pastrami, cole slaw, turkey, provolone and cheddar cheese, tomato, green peppers, onions, lettuce, and mayo. Half of the sandwich was prepared on sourdough and the other half on pumpernickel. Overall, very tasty sandwich. At $9.50, it was a bargain considering that the triple-decker sandwich was enough for 2 eaters.
Pastrami meat by itself was on the drier side, but the juicy cole slaw made up for the dryness. Turkey was thinly sliced, but obviously deli style, which is always a plus!
The sandwich comes with half of a deli-style pickle (read: large sized and not overly sweet/salty/sour), a wedge of orange, and 4 tiny pepperocini.
I also ordered a pint of potato salad ($4.75), which had the consistency of chunky mash potatoes, but was blended well with crunchy bits of onion, red cabbage, and green peppers (I think). Potato skin remnants indicated that red potatoes were used. Very tasty! Mix the potato salad with the drippings and ingredients on the plate from the over-stuffed sandwich for a hodgepodge treat! :)
I called in the order for take-out as it was about 12:15 pm on a weekday. The employee estimated pick up time at 25 minutes and the order was ready for me when I arrived close to 1:00 pm. The restaurant was busy when I arrived, but not uncomfortably so as the dine-in seats were about 80% full.
Indoor seating was larger than I expected and had a make-shift layout as some tables were within a dining room, and the other tables were in the shared courtyard-like hallway. I experienced excellent customer service as the cashier was cheery and repeated my order to ensure accuracy.
My first time here and I will return! Thanks for the recommendations and info fellow yelpers! -

I am not a sandwich person but I had a guest who frequents my business bring me the Del Mar Sandwich and I was HOOKED!! I love their sandwiches. I usually call in and pick up so I cant rate the seating area. It looks comfortable and there seem to be quite a few people eating in. You have to give this place a try!

Normally I'm not a hater, but if I have to wait 45 minutes for a simple sandwich made from ingredients that require no cooking then you're going to get a bad review. Yes, it's a big-ass sandwich. But is it the best sandwich I've ever had in my life?! NO. And certainly not worth the 45 minute wait. By the time I got my Turkey Supreme I was so cranky and annoyed that I only ate half. The seating areas had completely emptied out by the time our food came. It was neither quaint nor cute to wait that long for a damn sandwich that's good but not mind-blowing. The staff is very nice which brought down my rage, but hire more friendly staff to make your sandwiches a little faster. Until then, I won't be returning here. If you've got two hours of your day to waste, by all means stop by for a big-ass sammitch, otherwise not recommended.

"I am a fan!"
That's an understatement.
My friends usually make fun of how I favor quantity over quality. But, when I find a place that offers both?
JACKPOT
I had the Sheepherder - Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roasted Turkey, Beef Salami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, mustard, on a TRIPLE DECK with rye bread.
This calf was served with a sliced pickle, but make sure you ask for a couple of hot peppers on the side. I mean what else do you really need in life, right?
I'm not done.
I'm chubby so I needed something to wash down the sando. Coke? Nah. Lemonade? A waste of stomach space. Water? already got it. I man'd up and asked for a bowl of chili, w/ shredded sharp cheddar and onions of course - another episode of Double Eat brought to you by none other than D Kizzle.
Service was awesome, friendly, and for a small sandwich shop they really do it proper. I can't wait to go back as I'm already eyeing the Philly Cheesesteak and the Chicago. -

When you take into account all of the negatives you expect an incredible sandwich because this place is so popular. Just because a sandwich is massive doesn't mean it's a great one.

My fiance took me to Pasadena Sandwich Company, one of his favorite hoagie shops, for lunch today. After taking a bite into the humongous Veggie Supreme sandwich packed with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, and cheese (I chose Provolone) between two pieces of whole wheat bread, I too became a fan instantly.
He had Chicago (corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, and Russian dressing on rye breads), and even though I no longer eat meat, it looked so delicious that I almost asked for a bite. The cole slaw was just a-okay but the fries (so Ore-Ida Golden Crinkles) definitely hit the spot for us.
We both usually have no problem polishing off even the biggest of sandwiches but not this time. We needed to pack half of the sandwiches each, as we couldn't finish them in one sitting.
We will be back for another hoagie gluttony real soon. -

Whenever I'm going down to Pasadena and or just passing by, I usually stop by PSC to get my sandwich cravings fulfilled. I've been to this place so many times, the employees know me by now. Yes, this is another one of those little gem places I've yet written a review about. So here it goes.
Recently I've been eating more healthy and trying to lay off on any kind of meat. So I ordered a veggie sandwich to go. The sandwich was filled with avocado, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, red onions, mustard, mayo and 5 pieces of provolone cheese! Let's put it this way, the sandwich is so big, it's difficult to fit everything in one bite. It was hard for me, maybe you can do it if you had a bigger mouth than I do!
I've been eating here for a few years now and still can't believe how humongous, delicious and tasty their sandwiches are regardless if it's a veggie or their famous "TTC - Trust The Cook". The TTC sandwich is just a sandwich created by the chef, whatever he feels like he will just make it for you.
This time around when I was at PSC, I was greeted by this young lady named Megan. She is the daughter of the late owner name Mr. Stephen Fink. Stephen had passed away a few years ago. Every time I come into the place, he would always greeted me saying hi with a smile and ask if I was doing okay.
Since his passing, his daughters and son continued to run the store and continue his legacy. You can tell a lot of love and passion is put into every sandwich they serve. The employees and kids are just so nice, friendly, sincere, it's a reflection of how Mr Stephen was back in the days.
Mr Stephen rest in peace, we love you & we miss you! -

If you are in the mood for a big ass sandwich you have came to the right place. These sandwich are soooo yummy. I have gotten the vegetarian one a few times. It never gets old. If you are feeling adventurous you can "trust the cook", and see what you get. Fun place but I hate the hours. They close super early - no dinner

Unhinge your jaw and take in the meat. I trusted the chef and he made good on my faith. Gigantic sandwich consisting of: Toasted Bread. Roast Beef. Cole Slaw. Jack Cheese. Toasted Bread. Mayo. Tomatoes. Green Bell Peppers. Turkey. Cheddar. Mustard. Toasted Bread. Bottom to top in that order. There isn't really a way of taking a bite of the entire thing... so you can either split it in half and eat one as an open face sandwich... or just gnaw away at the sides and hope to make a dent.
My friend had the turkey sandwich and it was really good as well... the turkey in general is really tasty. That's it. Go try it! -

Amazing sandwich shop, stopped in twice in one week for lunch. Highly recommend the Sheepherder and especially the Ruben with the in-house cooked corned beef. The best Ruben I've had in years. Sandwiches are massive and prices reasonable.

How many of you have had a Roast Beef Sandwich, which required you to use a pack of tooth picks afterwards? -- Well - Not here. I have had several sandwiches here, and they have all been goooooooooooooood and yummy - aaaaannnd - HUGE.
If you are fast enough to get there before the Pork Roast sells out, GET IT - do not think about it - just GET IT! -

The idea of a sandwich is so simple, yet PSC makes it taste so good with the layers of meat piled on so high that it requires two to three bites in one section before moving on to the next.
Sanwiches here average about $8-9, but it is well worth it. My husband and I shared the "Trust the Cook" and neither one of us were able to finish our half. Note that they will charge you $0.50 to split a sandwich. The extra $0.50 includes plating the half sandwiches on separate paper plates and pickles for both, so there's no fighting over the pickle (not that I eat mine). We also got a side of the potato salad - this was also good. There is a list of other sandwiches I would love to try, but it'll have to be at our next visit. So I will definitely be back. -
Review from Amit S.
Great sandwiches! First time I went I had something from the menu but then I tried the Trust the Cook and that is all I will get now.
If you actually eat the whole sandwich in one sitting then I can see how the place can be a bit pricey. Most normal people can easily save the other half for a few hours later.
I recommend ordering over the phone before you go, last time I waited over 20mins for a sandwich! -
Review from Andy O.
In a word, the sandwiches from Pasadena Sandwich Company are epic. True, at around $9-$10 per sandwich before taxes, they're just a couple bucks pricier than what you'd normally pay for a sandwich at a non-full-service restaurant, but it's well worth the extra money.
PSC isn't about gimmicks. Plain ol' sliced bread, plain ol' sliced meat, no secret sauces, no pretentiouveggies (that's "pretentious vegetables", if you didn't get it) for you to convince your tastebuds you enjoy. No, PSC is all about loading up a ridiculous sandwich for you. You can go with the "trust the cook", like others have mentioned, and you'll be quite satisfied. But I've had great look with the other menu items as well. The Sheepherder is my favorite. Whatever you decide to get, you'd better be hungry. Even for a man like me, this is a killer meal.
PSC has a very chill feel to it. Like a place you'd see run by a gang of relaxed, friendly surfers in a beach town. The workers are all smiles, and quick to call you by your name repeatedly. I tend to get a little annoyed when I deal with I'm hit with a dose of overfriendly, but I didn't feel at all agitated here.
If you enjoy ridiculous excessiveness, PSC is for you. And come on, who doesn't enjoy that? -

I'm a firm believer that sometimes "LESS IS MORE".
Well tell that to the girls at PSC!!! In this place, size does matter and they make sure each sandwich is enough to feed you and your friend. On these sandwiches, although huge, less really is more, less added ingredients and just pure freshly made meats, bread, and cheeses.
I've heard some folks on yelp say things like its not anything special, just a huge sandwich. Well I have to disagree with that because what is special is the family legacy they have been carrying on. Grand parents who owned and operated restaurants, their parents have too. These girls know what they are doing, I say girls because this is run by a bunch or girls who have taken over the their family legacy. Owned and operated by four of the nicest siblings, they take such pride in what their father created 17 years ago. On a sad note and one that hits very close to home, he recently passed away from a terrible disease and they have dedicated a sandwich and a foundation to research the pathology that took him from them. Family owned and operated is a new meaning to me with this place. Keep up the great work girls (and boy).
If you want to go to a place that treats you like a number, don't come here. If you go here and just sit for a minute, listen to them great the regulars all by name. Support the locals and give them a try, I'm sure you will find something you can't go without after a few visits.Listed in: A lotta Grub for CHEAP!!!!!

There is little that I can add to many of the reviews here.
Great taste, great value, great people.
Thanks to Gabriela for introducing me to this place.
I also posted this place on my blog and will be posting the link to their website in the list of great places to eat in So Cal.
This place is a short walk North from the Metro Gold Line. -

3.5 stars.
If you order their "Trust the Cook" sandwich, be prepared.
It is monstrous!!!
Hubs bought one and delivered it to my work and wow, even after splitting it, I had a difficult time finishing my portion.
Why?
Because it's typically built as a TRIPLE DECKER.
You trust whatever the guy behind the counter will give you and you will eat it.
Ours was 3 slices of thick squaw bread (top, middle, bottom) with large portions of salami, ham, turkey, tomato, 2 thick slices of cheddar, 2 thick slices of montery jack, lettuce, cucumber, onions and 2 types of sauce.
Essentially, you are eating two sandwiches merged into one. I spent a good deal of time turning the sandwich over and over trying to figure out the best way to eat it. Finally, eating one side at a time worked best (dislocating jaw was a possible option lol).
It is purrrrdy delicious!! Meat is prepared at the storefront (but they don't make their own bread). The ham was tender and juicy but too salty for my liking. The turkey meat was not bad but was also kind of dry. Bread was really thick --- but on the dry side.
Overall, yummy place.
Don't expect this to be a healthy experience. I'm sure my half has more calories than a double double and milk shake. =P
If you can finish one on your own, please sign up for the next eating contest! =P
...btw... trying to hide a huge sandwich will elicit stares. just sayin. -
Review from Albert W.
I was brought here several years ago by a local friend, and I've tried to come back here as often as I can.
This place is a legit sandwich shop. None of that Subway or Quiznos deal, a real sandwich shop. The menu pretty much explodes on the wall and everything is homemade (I wouldn't be surprised if they were family owned and operated). Everyone who works there is also friendly, courteous, and will take great care of you while you're there.
Always trust the cook. I haven't gotten anything else and I've gotten different things every time I trust the cook. The sandwich always becomes a literal skyscraper of sweet, sweet delicious deli meat, cheese, tomatoes, and other condiments that I finish it within ten minutes and wonder why I ate so much so quickly.
I have never left hungry or even "just right," always stuffed. Prepare $8-10 and they take credit cards. This place is across the street from the Best Buy/Chipotle plaza. -

This is my kind of place! Service with a smile, food that has you planning your next visit, and friendly people.
Witnessed a young girl (maybe 3 or 4yo customer) give a server a flower which she placed in her hair ... so simple and pure ... very sweet!
Got busted by my teenzilla taking a picture of my "trust the cook" sandwich and texting (we have a rule not to text at the table) but had to shoot a picture off to my foodie cousin in CT.
Peter, let's do lunch and bring the Anaconda (his teenzilla)! -

Possibly the best sandwiches ever. You can make a few meals out of them. Don't forget to try the french fries. Also, everyone working there is awesome.

So going to Bed Bath and Beyond, I noticed this spot all these years and never stepped in...until today. Hey, it was a little before lunchtime and I was pretty hungry from running errands.
So since it's National Pastrami week (Hey, I didn't make this up, it really is!), I decided to go for the original pastrami french dip. I don't usually order french dips of any sorts because I don't like a sandwich to fall apart, yet alone, be soggy of any sort. Since I've never had it here, sure, why not--dip away!
Whoa nelly! When I got my order, I didn't know the sandwich was PILED with pastrami!!! Score, no schrimping, that's what I'm talking about! Now, biting into it was a feat... but once I did get a mouthful, oh, I was in pastrami heaven--moist, tasty and just what pastrami's are supposed to be without any additional fluff.
I barely finished the sandwich wished I had enough room as I was staring at others who got sides of potato salad and I wanted to reach over with a fork just for a bite. Well, I wasn't quite up to my ninja skills, so I made it a goal to come back shortly to get a side of potato salad and see if the taste is as good as it looks.
The price fits, the quality of food rocks and just and overall yummy experience. Glad I beat the crowd because the masses were coming right at 12:05 -

A great place for a gigantic sandwich, but a terrible place to grab a quick bite to eat. Don't come here expecting to get your sandwich without waiting at least 15-20 minutes.
The service is friendly and they try and accommodate you the best they can. However, trying to satisfy everyone in the packed restaurant quickly can be difficult.
Give PSC a try if you're in the area and you have some time to kill for lunch. -

My iPhone's screen has mustard on it because I couldn't wait to yelp about my lunch! I've been going to PSC for years. A creature of habit I never really ventured out when it came to creating my sandwiches. Today, I decided to have a Trust The Cook.. UNBELIEVABLE!!! It's a monstrosity like most of PSC's sandwiches so come hungry. I highly reccomend this place if you fancy FABULOUS service, value, and food!! The best part? I still have the other 1/2 oft sandwich for dinner!!

Pasadena, CA
The wife and I stopped in for lunch today. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
We had about 35 min for lunch, so we thought we would order in, have a seat, enjoy our meal. It's a sandwich shop, precut meats, cheeses, some veggies, it's not complicated.
There were a few other customers at the establishment, but the place was not packed. I ordered a simple egg salad sandwich with onion, nothing else, and a side of fries. The wife got a chicken salad sandwich, again nothing fancy. We were told our drinks would be brought out to us, so we took a seat and started talking.
Maybe 8 minutes later the fries came out - alone, no big deal. I know some people like for things to come out at the same time. But we're super easy, so we started snacking on them, figuring our sandwiches and drinks were on their way.
After we finished the fries my wife asked about our drinks, they were brought out a few minutes later. Around the 25 minute mark, we noticed others who came in after us were eating their food and our sandwiches had still not arrived. Keep in mind, egg salad...chicken salad...these are pre-made salads, scooped on two slices of bread and put on a plate. Why should it take 30 minutes to get two mediocre and simple sandwiches?
We received no explanation why things took so long, but left very turned off by the whole experience. There are too many other great restaurants in Pasadena to even consider going back. Sorry PSC - you lost us. -

I yelped a place when I was in the area and this place came up. The reviews were great so I decided to give it a whirl. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a super friendly girl who made suggestions as what to order. We settled on a New Yorker and a Turkey sandwich. The New Yorker was so huge that my friend was unable to finish it and had to save some for dinner. I was able to handle my Turkey sandwich and it was sooo good. Everything is fresh and the sandwich is not dry at all which is a plus in my book. I will be back!

This place is great! The sandwiches are huge, fresh and delicious! I've lived in Pasadena my whole life and never heard of this place until recently because the location is small and hidden. I am always across the street from this place, the shopping center with best buy, nordstrom rack, bed bath & beyond. And I never saw this tiny little sandwich shop until my friend, the vet tech, said lets have lunch here.
We ordered:
- PSC deli platter on rye bread: It has all the deli meats with swiss and cheddar, and we chose rye bread. It was good and interesting with 5 different types of deli meats.
- Reuben: I Love reuben sandwiches. You cant get any better then this sandwich! It was soo fresh, and the corned beef wasnt tough at all!
Pros:
- Has a private lot and street parking (can always park in the shopping center across the street)
- Their ingredients are fresh
-Their sandwiches are stacked with tons of meat!!! Its taller then your fist!
- They are nice people & try to make you feel comfertable
Cons:
- Charge 50 cents to split the sandwiches (really?!....really!?) Just order your sandwiches and give the half to your friend at the table LOL
- They close early! like 2 or 3 pm!!!!!
- Open not that early concidering how many hours they are open (weekdays at 9am, saturday at 11am)
- Not open on sundays
- Tiny place
All in all, the food is good. This place wont disappoint you when it comes to their sandwiches. Its a nice local place and I love supporting my local places then subway. I would come here whenever I come visit my friend's work.Listed in: Pasadena's Hot Spots

Pasadena, CA
I hope you know that we are just a few days away from National Sandwich Day. Do Foodie's look at this as our Christmas? With a beautiful package all wrapped and ready for eating. As a little kid I mark my calendar! Last week I visited Connal's on E. Washington and this past week I visited an old friend. You know it's always my intention to give you the best of the best. There are so many restaurants in the area. I stumble upon a few and you my readers e-mail me some from time to time and I even scour Facebook to probe the internet for terrestrial treasures.
Many cannot warm a cup of tea much less a feverish excitement in the thought of a sandwich. Is a Sandwich Shop worth an actual review? I believe so, I know many enjoy making one at home, but I have found it tough to review most of those homespun delights. So, where do I like to go for a good sandwich? Two of my favorite places are in East Pasadena. One is Whole Foods. Yes, they make a great sandwich, and you can direct the maestro to fix it any way you like. The sandwiches run about $7.50.
The second spot I like is The Pasadena Sandwich Shop. You can sit down or go right to the deli case. I usually go directly to the case. This family run business has not missed a beat in the past three years,
The Pasadena Sandwich Shop has done what Jerry's Deli and Ben's Deli weren't able to do. Stay in business. The restaurant itself is small; in fact it is located in a small office building, wedged between a dry cleaners and a vacant real estate office.
The prices range between $6 and $8. I have yet to finish an entire sandwich. Take the challenge yourself! Here are a few of my recent lunches: The Big "B" Roast Beef - cheddar, lettuce, tomato with Russian dressing on a French Roll; The "Chicago" Corned Beef - Pastrami, Swiss, cole slaw (it's triple decker on rye); and again, good luck in finishing one!!! The Sheepherder - Corned Beef, Pastrami, Turkey, Salami, Swiss - It's a triple-decker on Rye.
You can mix and match meats and breads or you can "Trust The Cook," whatever the cook feels as a fancy for the day. My suggestion, bring a friend to share.
Platters are available, and the restaurant offers chips and soda. Dine in or take out is available.
Peter's Condiment Tip: They have spicy beaver mustard, a must!!1 Previous Review: Show all »
