Places like these are so rare in California, which makes them all the more so easy to appreciate.  Far from the hustle and bustle of the city with its quaint architecture and its dimly lit lights reflecting on the romantic courtyard, this playhouse is simply beautiful.

I came here to see Ray and Sister Act....Ray was ok.  Sister Act was pretty good.

Dudes if you're looking to get boned but you're not into theater...bring a girl here and pretend your ass off.

This is a cozy little playhouse with beautiful architecture.  The seating is great, comfortable and spacious leg room.  The side exits provide a quick escape during intermission.  Parking in Pasadena is limited, so be prepared to pay.  But at least there are lots everywhere and traffic isn't bad like downtown venues.

If you're not sure if theater is your thing, this is a great place for your first time ;)

This is a great old theater. Should be landmarked!!! Just went to go see "Little Foxes" which is a fabulous show, a classic in its own right. The actors were great, and there was an amazing set!
If you haven't gotten a chance to venture outside of central LA, the Pasadena Playhouse is a great place to do that. Rustic, with beautiful sculpture and paintings all over. This theater should not be missed!

Pasadena Playhouse is by far, the nicest theater I've been to in the area.  Most people go to North Hollywood for theater, but this gem in Pasadena is certainly worth a visit.  My first time here, was to see the rather outstanding production of Fences, and I've been a fan ever since.  A very decent sized theater, not too large or too small.  Civilized guests as well as staff seem to fill this place.  I look forward to more outstanding productions at the Pasadena Playhouse!

Warm autumn nights, walk into the spanish clayed courtyard and wait for the doors to open. While twinkling bulbs hang above your heads, grab a glass of wine or an italian soda at the bar and enjoy the crowd; no worries you are far from los angeles here. Even the garish lights and vapid sounds of "Old Town" down the street won't reach you here.

Once inside, take a minute to appreciate your historical surroundings,  and don't forget to thank the gods above for bringing you here tonight. For you see, it will be the greatest night of your life.

My favorite place in my favorite part of Pasadena.

Short Version: A really good night of theatre.

Long Version: If live theatre is your thing, you really need to check this venue. They have great shows by well-chosen playwrights and actors in the cast that are actual working actors you'll recognize from television and film. It's amazing the caliber of actors they get here. The theatre itself is an older and well-kept space that itself is a pleasure to behold and the space inside is lovely. Yes, lovely, I said it. Ticket prices are average, but if you look for them, you can find discounts online. Parking is available for a fair price. Treat yourself to a great night.

Pretty place!  Just saw Can-Can, though they have more serious offerings as well during the year.  (C-C was really fun-I especially liked seeing a couple of the ballet-trained dancers trying to "sit bawdy"... did a pretty good job of it, and the can-can too, with those falling splits.  Wonderful sets, too.)

The Playhouse is a nice size, feels intimate though it seats lots of people.  We were downstairs toward the back, as I'd heard there was some audience participation in this play (YACK), but they were very good seats.

If you're local, I suggest buying your tickets at the box office before-hand.  Parking seems tricky but isn't: just park down the alley in the biggish pay lot, $5 for a big chunk of time, enough for coffee first (Zona Rosa) and a drink after (El Portal).

A perfect place to go in the summer!
