18 reviews for Parky's Hot Dogs
I, like many others, was taken to Parky's by my dad when I was a young kid on the way to Sox games at Comiskey. We usually went to the Roosevelt location, the one with bullet holes in the glass. (Hey, it gives the place character.)
This place is authentic in the fact that you usally have to stand to eat, and if you order ketchup on your dog, you might get killed.
The dogs, as mentioned, are not Vienna Beef, more like Oscar Mayer consistancy. They are steamed as well.
The fresh cut fries more than make up for it. Excellent in texture, color, and consistancy.
Go to Parky's if you want to experience a semi-dive hot dog joint with great fries.
Gritty but good Hot Dog Shack on Harlem in Oak Park. The dogs are not memorable, but the fries are. Indoor and outdoor seating that can be described as Rustic.
If you want good tasting fast food, then do NOT come here! I went here with 3 classmates for a lunch break and we all hated our food! We didn't even finish all our food cuz it taste so bad! I don't understand how you mess up a hot dog but they sure did! That was a first and definitely a last time I will be going there! Yuuuuuck!
My husband and I decided to keep our dietary debauchery on track this week, so we got Parky's for dinner. I did walk there, but I doubt that 3/4 mile even comes close to counterbalancing the calorie ratio. From about a block away I could undoubtedly smell the grease boiling in the deep fryers, and instantly felt my stomach smile a little. My brain, on the other hand, was telling me to divert away into Subway for a veggie sub or some crap.
I am glad I listened to my stomach! I love hotdogs, just love them! I could live solely on hot dogs or any other sort of cased meat. I don't care what they are made out of, I think they are brilliant! Needless to say, our Parky's hot dogs did not let us down. Like any respectable Chicagoan, I got mine with relish and mustard, my husband went the plain route and also got on infamous pizza puff and was quite happy.
If you want a good Chicago style hotdog this isn't the place, and I sure is hell aint the guy to tell you it is. For starters they don't use venna beef- that alone takes away a star. The hotdog tasted like it was made of pork, chicken, beef, etc etc- you know the "meat mix"- I think I've actually had Aldi's hotdogs that taste better than this.
Positive note: fries are good
Go for the fries, leave for the hot dog!
This place is a tradition in the neighborhood, but the hot dogs are not Vienna and they are not cooked all the way (maybe it's just me). The polish is better, but not worth the trip.
The fries are good! Service is quick! Maybe that is why the hot dogs look raw (or cheap).
My dad has been eating at Parky's since he was a kid...and he's been taking us there since we were kids.
So whereas it may not be the best, it is a tradition. And you've got to love something that's been in business, clogging arteries and stuffing buns, for over 20 years.
Four stars only because I just had a hot dog. Can't give a place 5 estrellas with just a frankfurter...come on. But 4 stars for just a hot dog - pretty good Parky's.
As messed up as it is, you can mess up a hot dog. You can, and they didn't. It was pretty good. Nothing special, but when you say that a hot dog is nothing special, how special can a hot dog be? Okay, okay. I know there's Hot Doug's, but that's just a different spot.
This hot dog was a good hot dog. I got it with everything - cuz I'm not picky. I'll eat anything. It also could've been where I was at that night. I wanted some comfort fast food - and that hot dog did it. I know, right? A freakin' hot dog.
Four stars because the fries were awesome. Awesome. I don't know if they're fresh cut, but they look and taste like it. Perfect amount of salt - I didn't even want ketchup.
If I go back and the burger or beef gives me the same good feelings as that hot dog did on a beautiful autumn night in April - then 5 stars.
5.
But we'll see if I go back. Shoot, could give it 5 stars just because the building looks so weird and cool - like the food has to be "greasy-good." It's like an see-through orange barn or something.
Later.
My mom used to take me to the one on Roosevelt Road when I was a kid, but that location sadly closed. The fries here are awesome. They double bag them because they are so greasy. The dogs are okay, they're not Vienna dogs -- I'm not to sure what they are really. But the fries are outstanding, they have good malts and their bugers are pretty good too.
First and foremost, I love the fact that they don't use Vienna Beef franks. It's a nice change of pace from virtually every other hot dog place around the Chicago area. The fries are legendary for their greasiness, and I think the old Roosevelt location was even greasier. You can't have these on your passenger seat without assuming grease will likely soak through the double-bagging. I think the one in Berwyn was better, but this Parky's is still good. The prices are fairly cheap compared to other dog joints nearby, and they have outdoor seating which is excellent once it warms up a bit.
Crap. The hot dogs here taste like they were microwaved. To be avoided.
5 stars for the fries alone. Outstanding.
It fills the void. There are better dogs in town, but these are pretty good, and truly authentic Chicago dogs and Polish sausages. Stay away from the fries. They get a little nasty when they get cold. I'll have to try a burger next time I'm in.
Bad bad bad. Makes me want to open a non-for-profit hot dog stand, just for the peoples' sake.
Greasy fries, wonderful cheeseburgers, and best chocolate milk shakes in town! Come early around lunch because the wait can be long.
The meat is sick. The fries are the best fries I've eaten in my life!!!!
Best fries in the universe. Malts are good too. This isn't quite as good as the real Parky's (RIP) on Roosevelt.
the french fries are hand-cut, but not so great when they've been sitting around a while. the hot dogs were better than most. the real attraction for me is the building itself, all triangular and orange and virtually unchanged since the 50s.
