Yaz helped me pick the awesomest frames. Again, I applaud her and Dr. Bazan. It's been a few weeks since I first put on my new glasses, and all I've been getting are compliments, compliments, compliments-- from friends, relatives, coworkers and the occasional stranger. These frames are a total change from what I've worn in the past. I feel great in them, I think I look great in them, and as I said before, I can SEE amazingly well in them.
And I'm wearing prescription sunglasses for the first time in about 15 years. They look hot too.
Can't wait to pick out another pair...
PS Yelp, I know I went in for a contact lens fitting and all, and I need those lenses sometimes, but these glasses suit me so well that it's hard to want to make the switch right now. Seriously.

In short: Dr. Bazan is awesome and tremendously helpful, and Yasmin has some of the best taste in… Read more »
I lost my glasses and needed a new pair fast. Dr. Bazan did the interview on a Tuesday afternoon and promised me my new glasses by Thursday. When they weren't ready, he said he'd have them delivered to me at work the next day, called for a car to take me home (it was dark, raining, and I'd biked there), and then we waited in the office together drinking some really good stout till the driver called from the street. The next day Jasmine dropped them off to me, as promised. Great service, good beer, and a really nice pair of eyeglasses: I'd go back again anytime.
P.S. (I didn't actually take the car ride home because I couldn't find the car on the street--It was dark, raining, and I've got lousy vision without glasses--but that's not Dr. Bazan's fault, and I biked home without mishap, so all's well that ends well.)
I can't believe I am just now writing this review! I went to Park Slope Eye about a year ago after looking them up on Yelp.
Dr. Bazan is an extremely patient, charismatic and informative doctor and I can't imagine going to a different eye doctor as long as I live in New York.
It turned out my previous doctor told me that I could no longer wear contacts due to abnormal cell growth, but Dr. Bazan suggested dailies...um...hello! Why didn't the previous eye doctor even suggest that? The other HUGE issue that Dr. Bazan corrected was an over-corrected prescription. Apparently my prescription was too strong, an I had been using those glasses for over a year...
Anyway- good thing I found Dr. Bazan. Enough about him though...
The staff is SUPER friendly, the selection of frames sufficient. You will find something you are looking for any many different price levels. I found myself just wanting to drop in whenever I was in the area to say hello. When was the last time you dropped in to say hi to your eye doc? Exactly.
No complains here. Will be going back
Perfectly fine place to buy frames. On the pricey side without being a rip-off. The frames are all accessible for browsers (no waiting for staff help!) and there are lots of handy mirrors at the right height. Their selection is better for rectangular shapes, for faces that suit straight lines. Not so much luck if you're after gentle curves or cats eyes.
I want to go on the record as saying I'd write up my experience at Park Slope Eye, and write it this glowingly, even if I didn't know that Dr. Bazan was an avid Yelper (or, indeed, if Yelp hadn't been how I found his shop in the first place). But since I know all of that, I felt like I had to come straight home from my excellent, painless appointment and say so right away. Believe the Yelp hype - there's a very good reason this place gets consistent five-star ratings.
Everybody at this place is friendly, cheerful, and super-competent. I generally hate going to the eye doctor, and in fact had been avoiding it for far too long, but all the trepidation went away as soon as I walked in. I was given snacks (!) and reclined on a comfy couch while the front-desk staff checked up on my insurance. (I was almost disappointed when Dr. Bazan was ready to see me within a couple of minutes - I could have hung out awhile longer!)
Dr. Bazan himself put me at ease right away. He was thorough and careful, and when I mentioned I wanted to try contacts, he took all the fear out of the process for me - I'd never had them before and now I think I might actually wear them all the time. After his patient lesson in lens removal and application, all of the weirdness of sticking my finger in my eye is gone. I'll be back, and I'll recommend it to any of my friends needing an optometrist in the hood.
Wonderful doctors, encouraging and friendly staff, beautiful glasses and yummy snacks -- what more could you want?
I ended up getting some frames that I would never have picked out on my own, and I'm completely in love with them. The doctors were friendly and thorough -- and super knowledgeable, happy to answer my unnecessary questions and really go above and beyond in actually educating me about eye health. I went in to get glasses and contacts with my new insurance, and, three or so months later, I couldn't be happier.
Ok, have you ever totally been to a restaurant and the food is supposed to be really good and like its super expensive, and you go and you order your soup and salad and you are getting your munch on, and then when you get your main course, there is a hair in it? And to top that off the next table to you there is a 4year old that just spilt his drink with such force its now down your back and in a panic he throws mash potatoes all over your dinner. The waiter is like zero help in all of this, as he is as confused as you are, and the kids parents seem to totally be ignoring all of it, those bastards! You know, they could atleast comp your desert, but you know they are not going to, so you get the cheese cake, and that damn kid sticks his finger in it, and then its ruined.....
Anyways, all of that has nothing what so ever to do with Park Slope Eyes, because they rawk something fierce, although you might find the same breeder park slope parents in there as were in the restaurant, but its not Park Slope Eyes fault, they just rawk so hard they bring everyone in.
Candice helped me out from start to finish, and took extra time to help me find the right frames for me. The doctor has the most up to date equipment and was able to make me feel super comfortable through the entire process. I would recommend this to everyone :)
Also, I order the soup with a ring pop on the side.
Thank you, Yelp! Thank you, Dr. Bazan! You both have done me a great service.
I got something in my left eye when I was commuting home from work on Friday (on the subway). I could not seem to blink it out or otherwise get whatever it was out of my eye since I was stuck on the train. When I got home, I examined and flushed my eye. It looked like I got whatever was in there out.
On Saturday, though, I had all the symptoms of a scratched cornea and figured I had scratched my cornea trying to get whatever was in my eye out of it. After talking with an ER doctor, I took her advice and hoped that by Sunday things would have improved, if only very slightly. On Sunday morning, I realized that I really did need someone to examine my eye asap.
I checked some Yelp reviews with the hopes of finding a good eye doctor in Park Slope. Dr. Bazan got rave reviews. I called and left him a message at 7:45 am on a Sunday. He had called me back to scheduled an appointment before 9:30 am and said I could come in at 10:15 am. OK, wait a minute, I can see a great eye doctor at 10:15 am on a Sunday? In Park Slope? Really? THANK YOU.
Turns out that I did have an eyelash stuck well under my eyeball. The symptoms of the scratched cornea were due to an allergic reaction caused by the eye lash lodged under my eye. I think it took less than 20 minutes to get everything fixed up and for Dr. Bazan to show me a short video clip of the eyelash and its removal (I asked him to do so, and yes, it was cool, and yes, it was a little gross).
After all the emergency medical stuff was settled, Dr. Bazan found a great pair of sunglasses frames I loved. He and his receptionist, Ana, took a picture of me wearing the frames and emailed it to me for future reference (should I come up with $425 for gorgeous sunglasses in the near future). Dr. Bazan, Ana and I chatted about eye health related topics, some weird eye doctor experiences I've had in NY (see my review of Penn Optical for a taste of that conversation), and some more fun stuff for a little while before I left.
OK, bottom line: I could not be happier with Dr. Bazan and his staff. I am astonished and delighted that I was able to get an immediate appointment in a comfortable, state of the art office instead of having to go to the Emergency Room. Out of pocket this urgent care visit was about $80 without insurance coverage (they are still trying to set up a relationship with GHI, my health insurance plan). I am thrilled both with the quality of care I received and the cost. I will look forward to seeing Dr. Bazan, again, hopefully for routine visits from now on.
It's the difference between flying coach and flying first class; you'll get there all the same, but it is so much more pleasant when you are being served champagne.
Ok, so they don't serve champagne, but that might possibly be the only thing that could make it better. I don't really have anything to add beyond the other reviews. The hype is all true. Go check it out for yourself.
There is a reason these guys have a nearly-uniform five stars on Yelp. (Frankly, that was the reason I initially bookmarked them, making a mental note to visit these guys for my next appointment.) So, going in, I expected them to impress.
They did.
They are both unbelievably friendly, patient and incredibly knowledgeable (no question too strange, which was awesome) throughout the entire process -- and all the Ring Pops you can eat while you wait, guys. Ring Pops! Oh, were those supposed to be for the kids? Whoops.
Park Slope Eye! You rule. I was getting some blurriness sitting in front of a computer all day at work so I stopped in for my first eye appointment in over 10 years.
The one-two punch of Mary and Dr. Bazan is pretty tough to beat. Dr. Bazan was very relaxed, confident, and had a good sense of humor as I mocked myself during the eye exam. He did a great job of explaining everything that was going on and why he was doing each test, which I appreciated. When he recommended glasses for computer work, he even told me I could pick up a pair at Duane Reade if I really wanted to. Bless you, Justin! Just because you said that, I'll shell out some cash for Park Slope Eye.
Mary works up front and helped me pick out some frames after my exam. I had no idea what to look for so she recommended a couple after asking me a few questions, and she nailed it after two tries. She spent a while on the phone with my insurance company sorting everything out and was really patient and kind about it. When I came back a week later to pick up my glasses, she even offered to clean my boyfriend's lenses when he remembered her from when she worked at Cohen's in Union Square. It was a very warm and fuzzy ophthalmological moment.
The office is modern and clean - my exam room was a little small but that's generally the case in NYC. While I was having a blast, I did end up being there for a long time as I waited for my pupils to dilate and then for them to... un-dilate. Luckily both Mary and Dr. Bazan live in the area and love to talk about the hood... and Yelp! In conclusion, this was a grand old time. If your peepers need some affection, hit up Park Slope Eye!
This is my first Yelp review and I am compelled to write one after having visited Park Slope Eye this afternoon. Mary and Dr. Bazan are really great, and even if you don't need glasses I recommend you stop by and say hello . I am a stickler for good service and these folks went above and beyond. They demonstrated a perfect blend of professionalism, warmth, and style.
**I should note that this was my first trip to an Optometrist ever.
Dr. Bazan could not have been any more patient in explaining the various check up procedures. I was taken aback by his knowledge and professional demeanor. if you are a tech junkie, like myself, you will not be disappointed with his setup.
Mary is a Peach! I don't know if I have met someone as friendly as she, and I mean that. She redefines courteous. I was impressed not only with the selection of frames that she offered but by her product knowledge.
These people clearly like what they do.
I have no interest in going anywhere else other than Park Slope Eye and I recommend them without any reservation.

Anyone reading Park Slope Eye's YELP page can pretty much see...Park Slope Eye is beyond fantastic.
In NYC where you can find excellent Dr.'s around every corner...my experience with Dr. Justin Bazan is one for the books. Never have I seen such a dedicated, genuinely-concerned Dr. with his patients.
I went to Park Slope Eye to get to the bottom of some eye irritation...my vision is 20/20 and a previous eye Dr. said "We see nothing wrong...your eye veins are just like that..." and that Dr. came with a recommendation from another Dr.! I was like "Ummm...no, something is off..."
Dr. Bazan was able to perform some rather amazing eye drop tests that seemed to be out of some "Medicines of the Future" or something...was super impressed. He confirmed my eyes were not acting as they should and provided some great advice/treatments.
I've been in frequent contact with Dr. Bazan...he even provided his help on one of his day's off...crazy I know! The amount of comfort in knowing I have such a smart and honest eye doctor like Dr. Bazan is refreshing!
I give Park Slope Eye my HIGHEST recommendation!
Even if you don't need glasses, consider paying Park Slope Eye a visit. You'll have a great time anyway.
Over the past 20 years, I've gone to at least 5 different optometrists all of whom have checked my eyesight and said "Hmmm, your eyes are weird. You can barely see out of one of them. But you can see OK out of the other one right? Let's not do anything." And I always agreed with them because I didn't want the hassle of wearing glasses. A few months ago, on a whim, I called up Park Slope Eye because they're 2 blocks from my apartment and my eyes felt tired. They happened to have an appointment available that day, and Dr. Bazan made the extra effort that none of those other optometrists ever did. With some help from his referral to the Optometry fanatics at the SUNY Optometric Center, I got a prescription that helped me see in 3D for the first time! How I could walk around without glasses for so long is a mystery to me. Over the course of several visits (it took some time to get everything sorted out) Mary helped me pick out some excellent frames. Now I can see much, much better and I look extremely stylish.
I came here on the fly last fall because I had one dilated pupil. I haven't fully re-located to Brooklyn, and when I called my eye doctor he told me to get to the ER or an eye doctor nearby,
Park Slope Eye, it was.
Not only were they gentle with my high strung phone call for an appt, once I got there they did everything they could to try and figure out the problem. Also, they explained everything they were doing and why.
Turns out I just had some eye irritation.
I love this place. I love these doctors. I only wish my insurance coverage extended to them...
Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff with a hip/contemporary selection of frames. I needed contacts and Dr. Bazan and the receptionist on duty went out of their way to make my visit a good and memorable one.
Additionally the place is clean and the eye equipment is new (and technologically superior to anything I'd seen).
I don't normally think of going to the eye doctor as fun, but I always look forward to my trips here.
Nice selection. Maybe I am old (school), but I got the impression that they sales people were a little full of themselves. They were very nice, offered us a drink and snacks when we walked in, but it was just a sense I felt (maybe an unfair assessment?)
I am adding another warranted 5 star review to profile! Park Slope Eye is fantastic. Dr. Bazan is incredibly friendly and thorough. He actually made me interested in the health of my eyes! Mary and the admin staff are super cool and friendly as well. Loved all the snacks and beverage choices! They do a good job of making this a very personal experience rather something that is just rushed through. I got a great pair of frames that look great!
Can't recommend this place enough. Mary, the owner, is the consummate professional--courteous, knowledgeable, sweet and stylish. Zack is also awesome. They both have a sixth sense about frame choices and generally run a tight ship. Also loved my doctor! Great place, will go again.
