Good god I love this place!!!

I've passed by a few times when I was checking out my new neighborhood (I've only lived in Park Slope for 3 months) and I finally decided to check it out with a visiting friend and my room mate from Japan who used to live in the UK as well.

The night before, as we were making plans for dinner that night and plans for tomorrow, we decided to check out the menu for Chip Shop. I've never been more excited just LOOKING at a menu at home. I was shouting across the apartment about all the fried goodies that we almost cancelled that night's plans to go to Chip Shop instead.

We were antsy all day waiting to go and it was well worth the wait! The friend pizza was hands down the greatest thing on the menu for me! I loved it! And the shepard's pie is amazing. So much so, we had to get some delivered the next night!

If you go, I highly recommend the beef shepard's pie, the fried pizza and the Lemon soda! It will kick you in the ass it's so good! Damn! Now I want Chip Shop!!!

ok so... me and the mrs decided to give it a try.  to my surprise the food was really good.  deep fried pizza was good not great but worth it.  and the deep fried mac and cheese was great.  the desserts were also excellent.

this isnt the type of place you can eat at everyday or even every week,.  the deep fry will kill you.  make this a once in awhile treat and you will be the wiser for it.

the restaurant itself was kind of small.  i thought it would be alot bigger.  the staff was really nice and had a smile the whole time.  i would recommend them to anyone.  just in moderation.  the amount of oil u taste for days....

Weird story - I was talking to my mom earlier this week and she was saying how she hasn't had fish and chips in a long time and we were debating the merits of the BK and McD's fish sandwich as a substitute.

Fast forward to yesterday when I "invited" over to Brooklyn to hang with one of my favorite peeps (Susan N.), her fiance and his friend. Since we were in Sheepshead Bay initially, we were inclined to leave the area. So a suggestion was made to come here since we were hungry. And this is a place you have to come hungry too.

Why? Because the portions are ginormous. The food is rib-sticking and perfect for the grossness that was yesterday (inundation). Although this was a chip shop, I ended up getting the seasonal Lamb Stew (with peas, carrots, turnips and cranberries all deliciously smothering a mountain of chips). Susan's fiance also got the lamb, while Susan and the friend both got variations on Mac 'n' Cheese. The food was fantastic. And I do love my fries with vinegar, thank you! And what do you know, they serve fish and chips!

The atmosphere was warm and cosy, the waitresses were great - since we had a 20-25 min wait, she put my name down, took my number and told us she would call when the table was ready. So we popped off to a pub for a pint.

Definitely try the fried desserts. We shared a deep-fried Twix bar and it was so sinfully good that I knew if I was Christian I'd have that much less to walk to get to hell. Luckily I'm a pagan.

I'm a fan.

I haven't come across many British eateries and this place has an extensive menu of food! A lot of fried food options - savory and sweet! It's a tad divey, but it gives it some English character. Food portions are definitely generous. The fish & chips were huge, but we didn't order it because we're holding out to try Assault & Battery in WV. The full English breakfast was solid and filling. The chicken curry was delicious...you can expect a plate full of fries with chicken curry all over it. Fried mac and cheese is a definite must...for only $5 it's worth sharing with others as a side. The chips are okay, not my favorite...and the fried shrimp was decent enough but nothing spectacular. I don't recommend getting the mashed potatoes (you can substitute them for the chips if you prefer) - it had an odd texture and got dry...not very tasty.

There was a special for fried cheese cake so we ordered that and devoured it. "It's like a cheesecake inside a churro!" my boyfriend described. We also had the apple & blackberry crumble with custard. I usually like crumbles and pies a la mode, but it was a different kind of good with the custard poured on top. Super nice service and a fun experience! We came in a group of four plus a baby and stroller and it all worked out. We did come at 2pm on a Saturday though so it wasn't ridiculously crowded. They also sell some English snacks and goodies at the front as well. Good thing I don't live closer or I'd be tempted to eat here more often!

food was amazing.  We ate the following.  Warning, chipshop is definitely not a place you want to go if you are on a diet!!

-deep fried pizza
-deep fried mac and cheese
-welsh rabbit
-steak and onion pie
-haddock and chips
-fried haggis
-fish cakes
-wild mushroom shepards pie
-deep fried cherry pie

Everything from start to finish was really good.  Definitely get the haddock as it's the most flavorful out of the 3 fishes.  prices is pretty decent, roughly $20 a person.  Waiters are friendly and laid back too.  I'll definitely be making a come back.

Saw this on a Food Network show so had to bookmark it. The walls are adorned with British memorabilia and the like. The menu is laced with traditional English fare (English Breakfast, fish & chips), innards (haggis), as well as artery clogging confections (fried cherry pie, fried snickers bar). Not the cheapest meal but let me tell you, it was my first stab at a fried snickers and that experience was orgasmic. Else, the fish and chips were average at best and the Haggis let you know you were eating innards. I left indifferent about this chain.

My arteries clogged a little just walking into the place. The air was heavy with fried oil. So even if you miss out on the British ambience, get take out... or maybe not... (read the last paragraph.)

As for the food, I liked how it was wrapped in the NYTimes but maybe it should be in the Financial Times or some British paper? I agree with Eric M, the fries/chips were pretty bad, short stubs and overly greasy.  I should have gotten the mashed potatoes. It would have subdued the saltiness of the steak and kidney pie. The fried pizza, on the other hand, was quite good probably because of oil from the pizza mixed into the batter. One slice cut in half also was easier to eat.. The fried cod fish was also very good, thick pieces, fully cooked. Cod can be chewy if overcooked and this was perfect, although the flavor of one of the pieces was a little off.

But after eating all of this, 2 entrees and a fried pizza, shared with just one other person, I am done!  And to finish it off, the 2 little critters that crawled out of the bag with the napkins (-1 star) just finished off the appetite. We were thinking of bringing them back to the shop to fry up...

I can't even believe the portions at this place!  I took a picture on my iphone and the fish and chips spilled past the frame.  The fish was cooked to perfection--I heard that the haddock was more flavorful than the cod which is what I used to eat in London--and the chips were A-OK.  They are supposed to be famous for their chips but I think I am more of a Belgian or French frites type of girl.  They had some crazy things on their blackboard like, "The Twice Fried Cherry Pie Is BACK!" leaving me wondering, where did it go?  I never knew about it....Having consumed less than a third of my fish I was too full to ponder....

Rustic. Raw. In your face. Cramped. Charming. Wooden. Patriotic. Great.

I've blown off going to this place a dozen times because they stay crowded and I hate waiting for things, but one day we finally got a seat. And if you ask me, it was the best seat in town.

This was my first time putting vinegar on fries (chips) and I like it. Not going to make a habit of it, but when in Rome, I do as the Romans do. And it didn't hurt that the...*ahem*...chips....were firm and delicious. They have two kinds of fish for you, cod and haddock, and I like the cod best. These formerly happy sea dwellers come to you blazing hot and you have to wait a bit to eat them if you're sane. I'm crazy, so I burn my mouth all up.

They have fried candy bars and if you want a review of that, go somewhere else.

The waitress was a fine and friendly bird (lass?) The decor is awesome, European-inspired photos and English knick knacks and Irish posters plaster the walls, even in the bathroom (the loo?), which is moderately clean I guess. It all adds to the authenticity.

Thing about these guys is that after I had the food, I couldn't wait to get some of the real thing on my trip to London. I had fish and chips at 3 places in jolly old England and I either found the experiences inferior or on par with ChipShop. So either this is authentic fare or they follow the recipes of Ireland, where I've never been to. What I'm saying is, this place is better than what they serve in London. I'm sure my English brothers and sisters will disagree.

Here is their menu: http://www.chipshopnyc...

Okay Cheerio! Pip pip!

*********UPDATE*********HOURS LATER********

Tried the fried Snickers bar. It was kinda like a Snickers flavored donut that was really gooey inside. It didn't suck, but I'm not going back for another.

I began this review with a rough 2-star award to Chip Shop. To anyone who is thinking about opening their own restaurant- please take note. This is what happens when keepin' it real gets...realistic.

The service was speedy, extremely polite and outstanding. Check.

The menu offerings were vast compared to its rival fish and chips competitors. It also included Irish and Welsh standards besides the typical frugal British fare. I have to confess, I was rather disappointed to see their Twice-Fried Cherry Pie banned by the NYS Dept. of Health, or who I like to call Department of Party Poopers. Still, check.

The quality was excellent. The batter used for the deep-fried delicacies was absolutely scrumptious. I was rather impressed with their fry cook, who managed not to make their selections soggy. Anything baked (i.e. Welsh Rarebit, or what I like to call ghetto bruschetta) was not burned to a crisp. Check.

The ambiance was casual. It was more like a diner with kitschy English posters and clippings on the wall. I can bike here sweaty and smelly and not be turned away from service. Check. (Note: I always bring some body spray for the sake of the people I will sit next to. I am not that inconsiderate)

They serve liquor as well as my favorite Ginger Beer to wash all the oils down with. My liver gave this place 5 stars. Check.

This sounds like heaven. Then why the initial 2 stars, you ask?
There was a piece of deep-fried apron cloth in my Chips. It was not very tasty. At. All. Uncheck.

They managed to redeem themselves and earn an extra star however by offering the obligatory free dessert. In this case, they were the fried twinkies with a raspberry compote drizzled lightly onto the plate. It made me quickly forget about the health code violation. Afterwards, I made my merry way back to downtown Brooklyn to punish the toilet.

It's true, the batter they use for their fish 'n chips is pretty great, as are their chips and tartar sauce, but I think that's where I'm going to draw the line.

Maybe it's because I'm not really a huge fan of fried EVERYTHING, but I just don't get the hype.  The space is cool, of course plastered with everything Brit all over the walls... But good lord it was bloody hot in there!  Put some fans on the ceiling or something! When I'm eating, I  like to be in a cool, dry place... especially if everything I'm eating is fried!

Service is alright. The waitress was kind enough to walk over to our table just before the kitchen closed to see if we wanted to order anything else, and we chose a couple of desserts: the fried mars bar and the rice pudding.  I don't know which one was worse!

If you're going to go there, stick to the fish 'n chips.  Then, and only then, will you not be disappointed.

As part of my bienvenu from my trip to SD the b/f allowed me to choose a place on my "Gotz to Go!" list to check out. There was no way in hell I'd permit the Chip Shop to continue to pass me by.

Since it's been said time & time again, no need to reiterate how bad ass the Chip Shop is.

I had the kiddie's sized fish & chips (a smart girl, I amz...I made sure to leave room for dessert), the b/f had the chicken strips & fries. It was all good.

What came next was what made the experience delovely & delicious: fried bananas drizzled in chocolate.

A) I love bananas so much, you'd think I'm a monkey.

B) this reminded me of my childhood, since my Mom use to make us friend bananas with syrup on those special Saturday mornings.

After seeing this on the travel channel.  I was dying to go.  Wasn't disappointed, but I thought the food was just average.  Probably should have gotten the fish and chips!

I thought the Haggis was good.  So was the Shepard's Pie - can't really go wrong there.  The Deep-Fried Pizza was decent, but could have used a little more flavor.  On the otherhand, the steak & kidney pie was too salty!  (Yes, I'm Goldilocks)

In the end, I'd return just for the desserts.  When you go, get the Twice Fried Cherry Pie.  At some point this was banned from the menu, but we were delighted to find that it has made its way back on!  Deep Fried Twinkie, tastes just like you imagine would - one of the best orders of the meal! On the other hand, don't get the Treacle Pudding.  Picture some whipped cream on a fruit cup.  That's all that was.

The place is super cute.  And they will fry anything (within reason)!  I tried to get them to fry some taffy but apparently they explode in the frier... ahh well, that would have been awesome to witness anyway!

Words of warning: I went with a few friends on a hot summer day.  Now I know better.  Fried foods on a hot day - ugghhh.

Chipshop has crisp, well-battered haddock and cod. The steak and kidney pie is satisfying in both its filling and its crust. The fried candy bars are something you'll want to try, though they sit better in your stomach if you stop by for dessert after a fresh, low-fat meal rather than after a plate of fish and chips.

Why only three stars, then? It's simply that  the management, having gone out of its way to make their restaurant stand out, refuses to take same very basic and obvious steps that would make their shop an essential destination for anyone in the Slope.

The biggest one is that they don't change their oil more than once a week - I was told on Mondays. This means that if you stop in late on a Saturday night (more on that later) you get chips which taste of Twinkies, mac and cheese, chocolate, fish, and god knows what else. When your whole concept is based around the idea of frying everything, you seriously need to change your fry oil on something like a daily basis. It's not all that expensive and it'll make your food taste so much better late in the week.

Also, why do they close so early on Friday-Saturday? Shop-Keeps, your business is ideally positioned as a one-stop for patrons stumbling out of 5th Avenue's many bars in zombie-like search of tasty fattening food. On weekends, you should stay open until 1:30 or 2:00. Besides the two diners, no restaurant within 15 minutes' walk is open that late. Advertise these new hours, and within weeks you will be a hopping midnight hangout.

Yes, the food at this place is awesome, and gets five stars. My one star is here because I am highly pissed off at their management right now.

Vicki Sell, one of the owners, is leading the charge to ban ice cream trucks from the neighborhood parks. You can read about her mission here: http://www.nytimes.com....

I grew up in Brooklyn, and have lived in Park Slope on-and-off since I was 14. I don't appreciate someone coming in and trying to change what's left of its laid-back character because, as the Times reports, her daughter had a temper tantrum.

This place is awful, truly awful.  When they first opened it was very good.
Now it's like eating a typical awful meal in London.
The fish and chips are greasy and they use really bad fish and breading.
The quality of the fish has gone way, way down.  The place is really dirty and they only take cash.  Dont even bother.  It truly sucks.

Love. I'm in it.

Went here with boyfriend the other night because I had a hankering for chips and curry... and boy was that hankering satisfied. Not only did I get chips and curry, I also got a huge piece of delicious cod, and English lemonade.

ChipShop joins the many ways I count my love for thee, Brooklyn.

The atmosphere of the shop is a bit  much for my tastes-too many redundant, vintage posters from English rock stars-but most people should enjoy the faux English decor.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sample much in the way of Scottish or English cuisine while I was there, but the meal I was served was pretty good, all things considered. I probably wouldn't repeat the experience of ordering a deep-fried Mars bar. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I teetered precariously upon a sugar coma when I was through.

The service is good, although the prices are a bit expensive for the fare on hand if you want my honest opinion. Overall, I'd recommend this place, especially if you enjoy a good, fatty, high cholesterol meal.

FYI, it can get a bit loud-which I suppose is good if you're attempting to recreate the atmosphere of an English restaurant/pub-so be prepared to tune out some of the background noise if you plan on enjoying a quite meal.

My favorite part about this place was the British kitsch all over the walls.  Oh, and the larger beers. I also really liked our waitress, she was friendly and talkative. Not from England though. :-/
I got the fish and chips... I should have prepared myself because boy did they fry the bejesus out of it! I was full and greasy. So, if that's what you're hankering for, ChipShop is the place to go.

The Chip Shop.  What can I say?  This is what we ordered: Deep Fried Pizza. (Tasty, but it doesn't really taste like pizza anymore.  Perhaps if they used a better quality of frozen pizza, it would have tasted more like pizza, but for what it was - good, in an evil way.) Fish & Chips - both Cod & Haddock.  (All very good.  I can see why this dish is so popular with the Brits - I can also see why obesity is on the rise in the UK). The fish is flakey, moist and flavorful. The chips were golden and crisp.  Mini Mac - a Sheppard's pie topped with Mac & Cheese instead of mashed potatoes.  This dish is pure genius.  Cauliflower & cheese - simple and good.  Plus I was needed something that resembled a vegetable on the table.  For desert we (four of us) shared the fried Twinkie and fried Reese's peanut butter cups.  The Twinkie was AWESOME and sits with a swiggle of raspberry sauce.  The only downside was that the menu states "Twinkies" as in plural.  Only one arrived and the four of us devoured it.  The Reese's was good and very rich.  Both had their own unique flavor.  I would suggest this place to friends.  It's great for groups and kids.  The wait staff was very helpful and friendly.  The only downside was having to purchase new larger pants after the meal.

OMG! I finally got to stop by after going to gym in Park Slope...not exactly a great finisher but i was in the neighborhood and craving fried food =P I had a Monty Python beer, the fish and chips, fried macaroni and fried twinkie!

Verdict- I love the fish..nice and juicy...not so much the fries( a bit dry)
Fried macaroni was ok- not as interesting as i'd thought it would be

But hands down- Fried TWINKIE =) almost taste closest to a cream puff

It was perfect for two...I couldn't possibly eat all this myself.

A fun light atmosphere for any occasion, I was told that the busiest time was Friday, Saturday with a hit or miss Sunday around 6-8pm

So the other day I stumbled upon one of those 'good eats' styled shows on the Travel Channel (Ch. 88 here in Queens) and they started talking about this place, so me and my boy, on a whim, rushed over to it and gorged our brains out.

Now..if you are one of those people who cringes at rediculously fatty foods, steer clear of this place. There is nothing lean and healthy about this place!

I had 2 slices of the deep fried pizza (the serving size is 2 slices for one order, they don't sell them by the slice) some deep friend mac n cheese and to top it off, fish and chips and a deep fried reese peanut butter cups. Everything was fatty and delicious! Would I hit this place up on the regular? HELL no, but to completely stuff my face on a rainy Sunday afternoon, COUNT ME IN!

Hidden somewhere in brooklyn is deep fried goodness. Put your diets on hold, cause this is some seriously good deep fried goodness.

The deep fried pizza was surprisingly good. The deep fried burger would have been even better if they dipped the entire burger into the oil and fried it instead of the patty. The fish and chips was really good, not greasy and the fish was flakey! They have a chocolate stout beer there. Not over powering, with a hint of chocolate. If you like Guinness then you'll like their chocolate stout.

Dessert is where the good stuff is. Trifecta is the way to go, considering their deep fried cherry pie was taken away by the dept of health. Trifecta has deep fried, mars, twix, and snickers. The silk textures of the chocolates and carmel and inside goeyness just oozes out when you cut into it. Definitely worth the trip out to brooklyn. Though it depends on who's frying in the kitchen that day, sometimes the mars bar shines more, sometimes the twix just kicks butt, and sometimes the snickers bars packs the most punch. Either way you won't be disappointed.

Don't worry you can always start your diet again tomorrow.

This place is definitely one of a kind.  9 times out of 10, when I walk by, I start whispering under my breath like a crazy person, forcing myself to breath... walk away...

The mac and cheese with mushrooms is delectable- ooey gooey and savory.  I sampled the fried twinkies- too sweet for my taste.  Twinkies, once fried, taste like fried, mushy glops of sugar (surprise?).  The fried candy bars however are a sin, mars bars, milky ways (the best) and snickers, mmm mmm good!

Quick service, good place to lay back, get fat and have a couple of beers.
Definitely a once a year treat, but worth it!!!

I am a Southern girl who lived in London for a bit.

So a place where I can get (HUGE) quality fish-n-chips AND a fried Twinkie might as well be called Liz's Shop.

The carry-out is nice and quick. Take it down the street to the park! People will keep asking you "where did THAT come from?"

I have a generous friend who let me stay at her crib in Park Slope, Brooklyn whenever I visit NYC. And whenever I am there, I wonder along 5th ave to see if there are anything interesting and/or tasty. During that usual mission of expanding my "5th ave frontier" on both northeast and southwestward, I saw a sign of British flag that said "Chip Shop". As a huuge fish 'n chips lover, I was sold immediately.

I walked in and asked for takeout. Then I was sent to small "pickup counter" around the corner on 6th st side.

As looking at the menu, I was delighted that they have different choice of white fish - cod, haddock and plaice. Although I wish they had pollack on the list, as long as they have cod and haddock, there's no disappointment there.

And the cook finished cooking, I witnessed him wrapping the food in the water proof paper and, as my Brit friend always tells me, newspaper! That alone(wrapping with newpaper) gave me some feel of authenticity and got me excited.

I headed back to my friend's as happy and excited as "Anthony" in Prince Pasta commercial. When I opened it, I had to smell aroma of fried fish and chips. Size was generous. I think it was half a fish. I took a bite, it was gorgeous. Unfortunately, that delicious taste instantly accelerated my eating which led to finishing the meal in matter of a minute. And... it felt like I just swallowed a dumbbell. It felt so heavy in my stomach.

It was almost 10 minutes walk back and plus I stopped at Dunkies to grab a cup of ice coffee. Hence the food was wrapped in the paper for at least 15mins. Not that oil would evaporate, I think having the food in the wrap that long made it little greasier. I'm sure that it wouldn't be as greasy if I dined it.

Regardless, dining in/takeout, I want to come back to this place as soon as possible. And I also want to try their brunch, "Hangover special".

It's not usually intuitive for a NYC restaurant to tout a NYC DOH (that's Department of Health) decree on their menu - it usually has something to do with rats.

Here at the Chip Shop, they do it proudly. Instead of striking it out, the price of the "Twice-Fried Cherry Pie" is covered with the slogan "Banned by the DOH." For some people, this would be absolutely disgusting.

I'm even more intrigued.

Yes, yes, they're known for fried stuff. I will say, the fried pizza is surprisingly good, and for $3.50 (I think?) a slice, a damn good value; you'll be surprisingly full at the end. Fried candy bars are always tasty. I suppose it has to do with the chocolate and the warm crispy batter. The twinkie is amazing (although somewhat inconsistent if not done juuuuust right). I think the twinkie cake is even fluffier, contrasted with the crispy coating, and then the cream is warm. On my last visit, I tried the special fried cheesecake. It's what you imagine it to be. Yum!

As a regular, I've had a few things that aren't fried fish on the menu as well. The chicken strips are surprisingly good (and tender), as are all the shepherd's pies. Mushy peas are a good idea... I don't know why more people don't try it at home.

But the fish is great, and at least 20% cheaper than Assault and Battery in the Village. The chips are yum, too, and perfect with vinegar.

FYI, a brief fish guide:
-Cod: A mild-tasting white-fleshed  fish, moist and flaky.
-Haddock: Stronger fish taste (moderate, compared to cod), also white-
fleshed, but the grain is finer.
-Plaice: Also more fishy, white-fleshed, finer grain. A flatfish (think of flounder).

Went here for the Restaurant Week special - awesome deal: $23 for 2 people. Can't beat that! Also, they offer a recession special of 20% off entire bill from 4:30-6:30 Mon-Thurs.

Overall, the appetizers were good, dessert was scrumptious, but the main entrees were just ok, and at the end my stomach wasn't taking all the deep fried stuff that well.  I tried one of each so I will write my reviews based on both selections.

Apps... The fish fingers were crunchy, just the way I like it.  The mac and cheese ball was on the lighter side, but was a good balance to the fried fish fingers.

Entrees... The fish and chips (signature dish) were way too greasy and the oil took away the flavor from the codfish.  It was not crunchy like the fish fingers, since it was one big gigantic fried fish.  I preferred the beef shepard's pie, which had some good cheese and mashed potato.  But it did get tiring after some time...

Dessert... I would probably come back here just for dessert! Yum yum yum to the deep fried snickers!! It was dangerously good and "regular" snickers won't be the same anymore.  The four berry stew was pretty amazing and intense with lots of flavors!  It reminded me of berry sorbet.

This place serves deep fried candy bars, cakes, etc., and will deep fry anything you bring in. ANYTHING. This concludes my review of Chip Shop.

Maybe my poor Irish body just wanted to rebel against English patriarchy, but ChipShop made me very, very ill. All I ate was a salad and a few fries, but that was enough to keep me queasy for days. My boyfriend had the full English breakfast and was also ill. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't even good enough to make up for the lackluster and nauseating food. Maybe it was a bad day for the British.

Our attempts at dessert were always thwarted by our already-stuffed bellies, so we tackled a single objective...   Mission Deep Fried Twix!  We ravaged it right there on the street corner, powdered sugar all over our greedy faces.  Our satisfied smiles probably made passers-by think we'd been up to some naughty no-good.  The great thing about the Deep Fried Twix (vs. Twinkie, Snickers, etc) is that it comes in a pair, saving you from:
    1) "two for me, none for you" sydrome, which may leave your S.O. very angry and
    2) a heavier brick in the pit of your stomach.
Don't get me wrong though.  That battered treat is 250x worth the slight "gahhhh" feeling you may experience 30 min later.  Although ChipShop is a difficult food choice to justify nutritionally....  You've never spent a better $3.50.

Nothing I've found in New York compares to the chip shops I used to go to in England, but Park Slope Chip Shop is pretty good.

I've only ordered the fish & chips here (so I do need to try some of their other things!) and it has always been a pleasant experience.  The are CASH ONLY so be prepared.  The breading could be crisper and a bit lighter, but it'll do.  They  also give a generous portion of chips, which is much appreciated.

And all the kitsch that they have in the restaurant is great!

HOLY SH*T. If you like fried food, this is the place to go. Great for either a fried food craving or the worst hangover of your life.

Went with a friend and we both got the fried cod and chips. It was delicious. And it hit the spot. But we also drank; they have a small but decent selection of English brews...

But because we are gluttons for punishment, we went for desert. We had the deep fried bananas (which I had had before and these were just as good...) and the DEEP FRIED CHEESECAKE. Yes, DEEP FRIED CHEESECAKE.

If you eat nothing for the rest of the year, at least do your heart a favor and try the deep fried cheesecake. I think about it often. Well worth the trip to Brooklyn just for this place.

I wish I could have had the fish and chips, but we ended up just going here to try a fried dessert. It was my first time ever having anything chocolate deep fried. The first bite was amazing, the second was still pretty good, but by the third my brain was telling me NO!

The fish and chips looked delicious as did the shepard's pie. Whenever I get back there, I plan on sticking to the regular menu and trying the fish and chips.

It's an incredibly cute place and I love all of the interesting British food /candy for sale by the register!

Batter fried delights await you if you can find room inside the Chip Shop.
If you don't find the idea of shepherd's pie or thickly battered, fried haddock something that you'd love to eat, you might not like it here.  But if you do, read on.
My "go-to" spot for fish and chips used to be A Salt And Battery.  But honestly, I'd have to say the quality of the haddock here is much more consistent.  The batter is AMAZING.  Anything you get deep fried here will be worth it.  I haven't tried the cod, but if you can get good haddock, why bother, I say...
Out of all the fried desserts, I really liked the Mars Bar the best.

I haven't tried the deep fried pizza yet, but the concept appeals to the atavistic part of my brain a lot... I just love the fish and chips so much I find it hard not to order that when I come here.
Again, the place is small so you're better off on a weeknight, in a group of two or three.
The portions are quite large, so you might want to leave some chips on your plate in order to have the DEEP FRIED MARS BAR.  It's really worth it.
