12 reviews for Park Shore Waikiki
I can't believe I forgot to write a review for this hotel. We stayed here in May 2009 and booked the hotel package on very short notice. Originally we had planned on going to Puerto Vallarta and then two weeks before our trip the news broke about the H1N1 (swine flu) outbreak, and we decided to cancel our Mexico trip and go to Hawaii instead. Since everything was so last minute most of the hotel and airfare packages were really expensive, or the less expensive packages were for hotels I would never consider staying at. We were able to book the Park Shore for about $875 pp(there were 3 of us) including air for 9 days and then paid an additional $300 for an oceanfront view.
The initial start of our vacation was not ideal, we had an emergency with my dog and ended up putting her to sleep just hours before the flight. I think we were the only people on the plane en route to Hawaii that were in tears and thoroughly depressed. The first night we were placed in a room with a gorgeous view though it happened to be right above Lulu's so it was incredibly loud well into the night. After a long and trying day we all just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep, but with the music thumping sleep was difficult to say the least.
The next day we asked to be moved to a room a little further away from Lulu's and explained that our initial room was just too noisy. The girl at the front desk (Annielynn) told us she had only one room available and moved us into a tiny room with only one double bed and they set up a roll away bed since there were three of us. Sleeping on a roll away was not how I envisioned my vacation, but to maintain the peace I decided to keep my mouth shut. After two restless nights we ended up speaking with the manager who moved us into a beautiful room (I think it was #1121), it turns out Annielynn was wrong and there were quite a few rooms that were unoccupied during our stay.
The rooms at the Park Shore are pretty small, unless you are lucky enough to get one of the remodeled units which seem more spacious due to the layout of the furniture. However, the fact remains that if you have an oceanfront room the views are spectacular. Location is really nice because you are within walking distance of all the fun that Kalakaua Ave. has to offer, but because the hotel is bordered by a park on one side it tends to be a bit quieter than other hotels in Waikiki.
Aside from Annielynn who I found to be rude during our entire stay all of the staff at this hotel are wonderful. You couldn't ask for a better housekeeping staff, they work so hard and are so friendly. Bob at the front desk always made sure that we had everything we needed when we came in at night, Elito and the guys who took care of valet were really awesome the car was always there within minutes of our call. In particular Darilynn at the front desk is so sweet we enjoyed talking with her and she even brought me strawberry filled mochi when I mentioned not being able to find one in Waikiki! Little personal touches like this are the things that I will remember from this trip more than the small rooms or the roll away bed.
In terms of the quality of the rooms while they are clean they are small and most of the rooms have not been renovated yet. If I were to rate the rooms alone it would be a 2 1/2 star review, but given the fabulous location, gorgeous views, price, and most important the wonderful staff I don't feel comfortable giving anything less than 4 stars. If every room looked like the one we ultimately stayed in I would be a regular guest happily taking in the million dollar view from my lanai.
OK So... I booked this hotel for spring brake with a friend from school. Our goal was Hawaii on a Budget. We payed $500 for 5 days with hotel and airfare... and got the park shore.
Personally... LOVED the location of this hotel. In the past, I stayed at Outrigger Waikiki and the Royal Hawaiian... SO NICE to be out of the hectic tourist section!
OK The hotel... BEAUTIFUL view of diamond head and the beach. We were on the 16th floor, corner of the hotel, facing the ocean. I included a pic.
The room was fine... I mean, I slept good, the bathroom was clean. We didnt have hot water one morning because they were working on it.
Valet put a NICE scratch in my car, which escalated into a nasty verbal argument.
No hidden fee's which I was happy about... and an overall great time on the island!
So again... the goal of this trip, was hawaii on a budget, and this hotel suited the purpose. Im not saying its The Royal Hawaiian, but its everything I expected.
This hotel has friendly employees, great location and great views. AC works marvelously, everytime we came in to the room it was so nice and cool compared to outside. It was awesome. Ok so the room is not the fanciest but we stayed in an ocean front room that we got upgraded for free from a partial ocean view room because it was our honeymoon so they upgraded us without us even asking which was awesome. The only reason i don't give five stars is because the first night we had a stain on our sheet and on a pillow so i left a note for the cleaning lady to change the sheets cuz it had a stain so she changed it cuz when i came back in, there was clean sheets. Oh and the other bummer is there is no free wifi in the rooms, u have to pay 5.00 a day in which we just paid for the whole week for. But overall we were happy and if we go back we would like to stay again there.
We stayed here for 5 nights booked on their website. Loved it! We got the "buy 4 get the 5th night free special" and we got a free room upgrade to OCEAN VIEW! Thank u Annie!! The views were expectacular! Kuhio beach in front and diamond head to the left...had beer on the balcony multiple times to watch the sunset. Staff was very friendly (thank u Zenaida the housekeeper). Rooms are older, but the flat screen tv is huuuge! And who wants to stay in the room anyway when the beach is in front of u and shopping, restaurants n bars are downstairs?
For like $90 a night we got a comfy ocean view room. Isn't that enough for five stars?
Our room had a king sized bed. There was plenty of room for all of our stuff and enough room to walk around and not bump into anything. The bathroom is also large, with an over the tub shower. I had no problems taking a bath in it like another reviewer did.
It's close to Hanauma Bay and Diamondhead. This is right across the street from the zoo entrance. You don't hear elephants going crazy or birds squawking or anything like that, but you don't have to drive to get there. Why anyone that lives in San Diego would be visiting another state's zoo is beyond me.
Next door is Teddy's Bigger Burgers which are amazing. I was not planning on eating greasy burger food at my Hawaiian vacation but I ended up eating a burger a day for a week. The peanut butter shakes are amazing too. And the onion rings. I didn't really like Hawaii but would go back just for Teddy's.
This place is also right across the street from the beach. There are no waves at the beach. It's more of a pool with salt water. They built this giant wall thing to make sure of that. You can have waves if you drive a little.
Being situated at the end of Waikiki you don't have to deal with the same amount of tourists. I don't like tourists. I know I was one, but I still don't like them.
The lobby is open and only has three walls. They have a little vacation planner center, which we used to schedule a few tours and a kayak trip.
I might come to Oahu again and if I can't stay on the north shore, I would be happy to stay here again.
We booked a room through Travelocity for a decent penny. My girlfriend wanted an ocean view so she ponied up some extra cash for the privilege. What we expected and what we got was totally different. Our patio actually faced the Honolulu Zoo and had only a partial view of the ocean. We actually had a great view of the dinky swimming pool and the leathery-skinned tourists. Bleh...
The room was tiny with a queen-sized bed. The sheets were stained and uninviting. The bathroom was just gross. The tub was stained. The showerhead leaked and sprayed the entire bathroom. It soaked our bath towels as we showered. We called to complain and the night person was no help at all. He rudely told us that maintenance was not available. He also said he would call us back about the availability of another room which he did not.
All I really cared about was actually being in Hawaii. We didn't spend that much time in the room which is why we probably put up with so much. If you're going to spend your hard earned cash on a vacation in Hawaii, stay elsewhere or avoid booking through Travelocity.
4 stars... we would definitely stay at this place again.
the room was a tiny bit small but how much time do you actually plan on spending in the room when you're in hawaii?
the views are nice. our lenai looked out at waikiki beach and our front balcony had a great view of diamond head.
the bathroom was clean except under the soap holder in the shower there was mold and mildew all over but that was the only real concern. the carpet was a little stained but bedding was nice and clean.
the lobby of the hotel is outdated. it was very 80's but the rooms were more modern.
lulu's waikiki restaurant is on the 2nd floor and is a very convenient place to eat and hang out. we didn't eat at the japanese restaurant in the hotel but hear it's a favorite among locals. it didn't smell to favorable to me, though.
it was nice having an ABC store literally in the hotel.
and last but not least, the beach is sooooo close. diamond head is soooo close. it's a very convenient hotel and definitely worth it for the price and location.
I agree with Terry N and Manolete C...I booked through Cheaptickets and thought I was getting a deal. Paid extra for the Ocean View room and got a view of the Zoo and partially ocean. NOISY as all hell as you are right over a bus stop. They charge for EVERYTHING include $5 extra a day for the key to your hotel room safe???? Stayed all over the world and this was a first. The only redeeming factor was the location, as you cannot beat it. The hotel definitely needs a make over. The upstairs hallway walls need a fresh coat of paint and the carpet is crap. There were what looked like motoroil stains in the tile leading into my bathroom. Next time I am going to pay a bit more and stay at the Surfrider or the the Outrigger.
HORRIBLE HOTEL! The beds were not the most comfortable and the pillows.....OH THE PILLOWS! If i knew better i would have stolen about 4 airplane pillows and it would have still been more comfortable than there mess. The website falsely advertised size of the rooms and size of the beds. The air conditioner vents dripped water. SAD HOTEL. Never again.
We choose this hotel for its VERY CLOSE proximity to the beach. Our room was small but clean. Not a luxury hotel but great if you are looking to save your money to spend on food and touristy activities while on the island. There's a Starbucks right at the corner. And two ABC stores on either side of the hotel. LuLu's is closeby. Also the bus that takes you to Ala Moana Mall stops right outside. Not a bad deal!
Four stars not for luxury but for location if you're into the beach and exploring Oahu without a car. This is the last hotel before the park so the beach seems less packed because there's not another hotel right next door. Several bus lines stop right there including the bus to Hanauma bay, the airport, Academy of Art, Sea Life center, and the Ala Moana buses where you can catch all the other buses. The hotel is not fancy and it's not right next to the luxury shopping so if that's your deal stay somewhere else. The pool is nice and the rooms have fridges. I'd definitely stay there again. Corner rooms have a lot of wind noise at night.
I was very pleased. I read many reviews on other sites about how gross and small the rooms were. I had only ONE CON: Take earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The walls were thin and we could hear our neighbors talking. The Park Shore is NOT the Hilton or Marriott, BUT for the price and the location, I'd stay there again and again and again. We had a city view room (#1712) with a king bed. There was plenty of room for me, my boyfriend and our luggage. We never felt too crowded. I saw a city view room with 2 double beds and it did look a bit cramped. When you step out onto the patio, to left you can see the ocean clearly and to the right a pretty view of Honolulu. You can hear the waves crashing at night. It was great. The staff was very helpful and very courteous! The beach is a 30 second walk from the hotel and the pool has the BEST view of the beach on the Waikiki strip; However, the pool area itself is nothing great. Lulu's bar and grill is great and Starbucks is right outside the main hotel door. Ohhh one more slight con: our shower was a little old and worn, I wouldn't take a bath in it as the floor was a little torn up and needed new caulking, but the water pressure was great and I didn't feel "grossed out" while taking a shower. (I added pictures of our room and view)
