utah??? ok, let's be honest. the first thing that came to my mind when i got an invitation for a wedding in utah was "are they mormons? what kind of freaks gets married in utah (both the bride and groom are non-mormon california residents)? ugh...i should just decline this one". yeah, i was less than excited to attend this celebration based on my ignorance and preconception.

added to the fact that i am not so fond of freezing *ss weather, we just booked any reliable (chains) hotel that was cheap yet convenient. pampering and service weren't such issues for once. our room was located on the 1st floor, known as semi-dungeon, which provided zero view with the only source of outside lighting coming from car headlights. needless to say, i was very disappointed.

however, what changed my mind was their level of service and convenience. when we needed ear plugs, towels, etc., the housekeeping was at our door within minutes notice no matter what time the requests were made. the city wide free shuttle buses stopped right in front of the hotel every 20 minutes which made this marriott really attractive. seriously, when you are in park city, take advantage of this public transportation. we didn't have to use our rental car the entire time (free hotel on-site parking) since the shuttles went to every corner of the city until 1am.

if you see guests running around in bathrobes, do not be alarmed. rightfully, these people are very smart because the hotel's heated pool and powerful jetted jacuzzi are the best way to relax your cold body and cap the day full of sore muscles from ski and snowboarding before you head out for some fun. the facility is quite clean and bright with a lot of natural lights coming from glass ceilings. lots of lounge chairs and clean towels, we thought this was the best feature of the hotel.

i can't complain too much about this hotel, even with my snobbish hotel standards, except the room we were in. the employees were very accommodating and helpful. in fact, i must say park city (and maybe the state too) is the friendliest place in the entire country. and don't worry...booze is allowed!

I need a 2.5 star rating for the PC Marriott--

If you are looking for clean, decently priced accommodations and either have a car or will take advantage of the free city bus to the resorts, I would recommend this Marriott. If you like to be in the center of action and be able to step out your door to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. this is not the place for you.

The room was very clean and the beds comfortable. There were a few minor maintenance items like a loose faucet and a stain on the ceiling from a leak but the hot apple cider in the afternoon, free breakfast (if you are on the 4th floor for some reason) and wait staff
more than made up for ho-hum aesthetics.

The free city shuttle to all the resorts is right out the door and you will want to use it since PC isn't the most pedestrian friendly town in the winter and the hotel is located in a commercial void with few opportunities close by.

One thing I could not understand is how hot the hotel is. Why do I have to turn on the AC to cool down a room when its 25 degrees outside?

room service: mediocre.... every time we ordered (we ordered about 7 times throughout the week) they forgot something (fork, ketchup, water, juice etc.).  my husband had meetings there so i was with the baby in the room during the day and i was so disappointed at the food quality and the absent mindness of the staff.

starbucks: was a JOKE!  i ordered a mocha and the woman was using a cheat sheet to make it.  she forgot the chocolate in there so when i told her, she said there's no chocolate in the mocha.  when she finally did put some in, it just sat in the bottom of cup....by far the worst drink i ever had that includes nasty warm beer.  THEN the next day she made the same mistake and for my husband's drink (Latte) she put chocolate in it......Starbucks is the new McDonald's....sadly.

Hotels should be well priced, convenient, and attentive.  The Park City Marriott was definitely attentive.  They took care of everything we needed them to, and were eager to please which I definitely appreciated.

Despite that, it's not a great hotel.  The rooms are a good size, but out dated.  The fan kept turning on and off and was ridiculously loud, waking us up at random points during the night.  When it wasn't on, it was hot, and when it was on, it was too cold.  Add that up, plus a hard and uncomfortable mattress means we didn't get a great nights sleep in 5 days.  Yay.

It's true, Park City has a free shuttle.  That, by itself, is convenient.  That it stops right in front of the hotel, is convenient.  That it's still about 10-15 minutes to either the resorts or Main Street, is not convenient.

As for value, you won't find much value in anything in Park City.  If I'm paying over $300/night, I want my hotel in the middle of everything and I want to sleep through the night without being hot and cold and hot again.

Next time, I'd rent a condo or something.
