I've thought about coworking for a while now, but never had a chance to try it until I recently moved to the City from Oakland. Working from home can get really old, especially if (like me) your office is now in your bedroom, so you're staring at the same four walls 24/7.  

There are several coworking spots in the city--and trying to decide on the right one can give you Goldilocks syndrome.

PariSoMa was just right. The space is not too big and not too small; it feels like exactly the right mix between home-y and office-y. There are adorable french posters on the walls, and a poster from the pirate supply store at 826 Valencia. It feels like a place you'd actually want to spend time in. The gigantic windows overlook trees and a gorgeous church. It feels light and airy without swallowing me whole. And I really like the conference room.

BENEFITS:
1. PEOPLE! The people are friendly and interesting, and there's a really nice mix of professionals. And even of nationalities. (It's owned by a French company.) I don't think any two people do the same thing (except for the ones who work together).

2. COFFEE ANYTIME! I'm loving the 24/7 access and, best of all, the FREE Blue Bottle Coffee!

3. PERFECT LOCATION! It feels like it's exactly in the middle of the city, so nothing is very far away. It's walking distance to my apartment, to the public library, to an excellent deli (Ted's Market), and to Rainbow Grocery. I can bike downhill to work from Potrero Hill & take Potrero Ave back so I never have to actually bike back uphill. Major plus.

4. GET MORE DONE! I am more productive here because I am surrounded by people, and this helps me to focus on some weird way I can't explain. Also, I'm in a better mood when I'm working, so work doesn't feel so much like work. I'm able to work more simply because it's more pleasant to be here than it is to be locked inside my room by myself all day. Also, if I ever have a question about what I should do, I could just ask someone nearby. It's like having coworkers, except everyone has chosen to be here instead of feeling obligated to be here.

5. EVENT SPACE! The best benefit is that you can actually use the space to hold events if you're a coworker here. You could definitely get your space to pay for itself...and probably five times over with all the new ideas and with your higher productivity.

If you're feeling like you need a change in environment and human interaction to keep from going crazy, I highly recommend coworking and PariSoMa in particular.

I had the chance to spent an evening at PariSoMa this past weekend for an event a professional association was hosting there.

The place is beautiful and charming. There is an open space where some chairs and desks were situated for our event. The most charming parts though were the kitchen and the little cove seating area. The kitchen is one of the first things you see when you walk in and is just so quaint and charming you cannot help but to fall in love with it. There's lots of space for plenty of people to use it and it has a great counter that is perfect for serving and conversation. The little cove seating area and library is another one of its gems. A simple couch, chair, coffee table, and bookshelf are up on the platform with a large paper lamp over top.

The vibe of PariSoMa is different from the coworking location I am used to, but I definitely see its charm and the potential. I am sure some amazing creative work happens in that space.
