walked from 2 lafayette to 198 to get this sandwich cause I hear it rox and i must say after the trek through the waves of chinatown, it was so worth it.

didn't really know what to expect from the picture but I did know that they make some incredible looking bread which is key for any sandwich. I opted for the 'Dennis' because any little local joint that has a dish named after a person is always bangin and with the Dennis I got way more than i expected . It's a bit pricey for a sandwich at $10 for the Dennis but you definitely get your money's worth and an incredible italian sandwich.

they give you three effing cutlets in one sandwich!

parisi is tasty, delicious, local and gets you rully full.

What happened to this place ?
It switched overnight from a cozy, friendly and affordable place to "da hype" next door, where you can't even step in !
The same amount of mozzarella in one place (for an affordable 4$) jumped to $8 in the other.

    Scandalous.

Simply wonderful. I am a regular at Parisi and I always have a good meal. The prices are the best in area and the sandwiches are awesome. It's going to be a little tough if your a newbie due to the lack of menus. Just keep in mind that this place is "old school", just tell them what you want and they will make it.

The people working here are super friendly, it certainly has that "old school" little Italy feel to it. On some days you may catch the owners who will gladly tell you some old school neighborhood stories.

There is no place to sit, so this place is definately "take out only".

The fantastic food more than makes up for any shortcomings. My favorite sandwich (not just here but anywhere in the city) is their ham, fresh mozzarella, egg sandwich. It's simply out of this world. It's juicy, cheesy and delicious. Best of all it's only $8!! And the sandwich is huge, most people will not be able to eat it all in one sitting.

I also love the fried chicken cutlet sandwich with fresh mozzarella on a hero. The chicken is juicy and tasty, the fresh mozzerala is abundant, and the bread is (as usual) fresh, soft and delicious.

If you want a genuine little Italy expericiance and don't want to break you wallet, or if you just want the best sandwich in the city, you have to check this place out.

Everyone I was with ordered sushi for lunch and "forgot" to get me something. Just like they "forgot" to tell me about team outing last month, and "accidentally" scribbled over my face in the group picture. But you should be feeling sorry for them, not me, because those poor bastards didn't realize Parisi was nearby.

Sure, there isn't a real system for ordering. Yes, there will be a wait at lunchtime. It's true that the service is somewhat surly, and that it's cash only. But none of that matters, because their chicken parm sandwich is worth almost any hassle.

It is huge, melty, gooey, messy love. Half of this massive, overstuffed hero is enough for lunch, but if you eat the entire thing you will be full and happy forever after.

Yo, cheap and good Vietnamese baguette (sometimes with a twist)? This is the place. Of course, take it out, grab a Tenren cup and that's my economy class lunch/dinner. No really, if you like food, you should try it. Number 1 classic first!

On an abnormally warm winters day in nyc, I decided to expand my parameters and take a walk looking for a new lunch spot. Yelp's reviews led me to Parisi Bakery. A ten minute walk later, and I had arrived.

Being already past 2pm, I did not encounter the expected line, and walked right into the small shop to place my order. As I did, I noticed a few huge sandwiches being wrapped up on the counter for a waiting customer. I suddenly felt some drool hit my chin.

There isn't a sandwich menu board at Parisi, instead simply a board listing different ingredients ( fresh mozz, provolone, home made roasted peppers). On the fly I decided on a turkey, fresh mozz, and roasted red pepper sandwich on a baguette. A short wait followed, after which I made my way west on Broome St back to my office.

Opening the sandwich it was indeed pretty big. Not Alidoro monstrous, but slightly bigger than your average deli sandwich. (and smaller than than the ones I had earlier seen while at the shop) The sandwich itself was..um.. good? The turkey was your standard fair deli meat. The Mozz was good, but as I live a block from Fiore's in Hoboken, my mozz standards might be slightly skewed. The roasted red peppers were fine - a bit garlicky, but ok. As for the bread.. I don't understand the raves. Sure, it was fresher than your corner deli, but that's to be expected from a bakery. Maybe it was because I was there at 2pm instead of noon?

Don't get me wrong - all in all, this was a good sandwich. At $9.50 it still could be considered a deal. If I had discovered this place randomly without the Yelp hype, I probably would've walked away more satisfied... even still, I will probably be going back.

When I came here I got the eggplant parm sandwich. It was very good...so delicious and unhealthy tasting. Mmmmmm fried eggplant. I wish that you could order half a sandwich because it was WAY too big and when I tried to reheat the other half later it didn't reheat very well. But if you could split with someone it would be a perfect, well priced meal! There was a decent sized line when I went. Something some people may want to note is that there is no place to sit inside.

I did not know what I was getting into when I came here.

"The Dennis" is no joke, about 3X more sandwich than I could ever eat at once, and I pride myself on my sandwich-eating abilities. Tons on delicious salty prosciutto. I actually took off some of the breaded chicken so that I could fit it in my mouth...

This is what all Italian delis should aspire to be.

The sandwiches here are BIG.  The sizes pretty much range from "Fuck, my sandwich is piled 2 feet high with chicken cutlet" to "Comically large bread with more meat than should be able to fit comfortably into my GI tract."

You will look at your sandwich.  You will think to yourself, "Well, shit.  That's a big sandwich.  I'm going to save half of it for dinner."  Yeah......good luck with that.

Oh, you'll start by eating half.  And you'll try oh so hard, but oh so futilely, to stop yourself from eating the rest.  You'll stare your sandwich down for a good 5 minutes.  You might even go so far as to wrap it up and put it in the fridge.  And then, BAM - before you even know what's happened, it'll be sitting on the table, staring at you, half-eaten.  Much like the Broodwich (Aqua Teen, anyone?), you simply will not be able to resist its dangerous deliciousness (unlike the Broodwich, you probably shouldn't die after consuming it).

The atmosphere here is perfect for an Italian deli, too.  Employees wearing Yankee hats with the colors of the Italian flag?  Check.  Old-school signs listing only the most basic sandwich ingredients?  Check.  A staff that seems a bit gruff, but somehow you can tell that they must be softies at heart?  Check.

Parisi's sandwiches are simple, but nearly perfect - everything is so fresh and well-made, and considering the size of these suckers, the value is fantastic.  At some point you should make sure to get either the Dennis or a hero with chicken cutlet/roasted red peppers/fresh mozzerella/balsamic, but otherwise just get whatever your little heart desires.  And then hope your little heart has enough juice to supply your intestines for several hours worth of digestion.

Do you like big, meaty, sandwiches?

If you are thinking about getting that $5 sub from Subway. Go over to Parisi bakery and spend a few extra bucks and get a better sandwich.

To start their bread is freshly baked daily and is not the dehydrated subway bread. The cold cuts are Boars Head high quality meats, I am not sure what quality are the subway meats.

I ordered the Eggplant Parm on a hero and the "Dennis". The Dennis is chicken cutlet on a hero with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar.

Both are excellent choices. I ate half of each sandwich and an hour later after these two sandwich I need a nap.

Although the interior may lead you to believe you're nowhere special, rest assured this place is worthy of the low price + massive, tasty sandwich hype.

    Exceeds all expectations.

Depending on my mood, I order either the fried chicken cutlet or grilled chicken - topped with fresh mozzarel, roasted peppers and a splash of balsamic on sesame hero.

End result is always the same, 1.5+ pound blast of sandwich heaven.

In the beginning, I devoured the entire sandwich for lunch. Nowadays, I only eat half and have a smile on my face when I get home.

Warning: If you plan on saving the other half for later, put it away before you start eating or else you will be tempted to finish the whole sandwich.

The Chicken w/ mozzarella & roasted peppers sandwich is the best chicken sandwich i have ever had in my life.  Although it was $9 for a sandwich, it was huge.  The chicken could have been seasoned a bit more but the bread, roasted peppers, and fresh mozzarella more than compensated for it.  I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I love the old school feel of this place. They have the Boar's Head signs with the prices of the sandwiches and the meats by the lb.

And the portions! I couldn't believe that the woman making my sandwich kept slicing the prosciutto long after I thought she would stop. I loved it all.

Hopefully Parisi won't be going away anytime soon, even after Little Vietnam/Malaysia officially takes over Little Italy. Everyone can use a taste of the old school every once in a while.

Having lived the past 4 years in San Luis Obispo, CA, unknown home of probably the best delis in America, I have been craving a good big deli sandwich. And I think I may have found it at Parisi Bakery.

I have been two times now, the first time I asked the guy at the counter to make me whatever he would make for a first time guest, he asked if I wanted a hot or cold sando, I said cold. 3 minutes later, he plops down this elephant trunk sized lunch for two on the counter and starts rolling it up, flavor dripping all over the place! "$9 bucks" he says. and I walk outside with a paper bagged brick.

There was fresh mozz, prosciutto, some spicy-ish meat, and some yummy tangy red bell peps. So simple, yet so much fresh flavor, definitely worth every penny.

The second time I went, I ordered chicken cutlet (warm) with fresh mozz and the red bell peps and am still amazed.

I give a 4 because I still like the SLO sandos a little more, however these are on a different playingfield.

I used to be a regular at this place but stopped abruptly after the death of the pope.  Why?  Well I was there shortly after the pope passed away and overhead the owner lady voicing her opinions loudly to a customer about the Chinese and the Dalai Lama, comparing them to the pope.  I'm wont go into details but it what she was saying was not cool.  I turned to a customer next to me and shook my head causing the owner lady to notice my disappointment.  As I walked out, I looked through the window and saw her looking at me with a guilty look.  I'm sure she realized her lack of professionalism.

Overall, their food is good and they bake their food on premise (I think).  I may recommend friends to go but I wouldn't go back there myself.

I have been fishing for ideas for a new tatoo, and Parisi Bakery has provided insipration.

I will be having an artist produce a schematic deconstruction of the chicken cutlet with fresh mozz, roast peppers and balsamic some ink on my back.  A gothic style graphic of all the components is the only way to appropriately show my love of this sandwich.

Or maybe I'll get the Italian Combo.  Except there is a lot of meat and cheese in the Italian Combo, and it might not fit on my back.

And who could forget the chicken parm?  What a standby?!?  How can I choose?  Maybe I'll get them all.

I drool looking at pictures of Parisi's food, even though photos could never capture the smell of their fresh breads and cheeses, the succulence of their prosciutto and capocolla, or the way your mouth has to unhinge in order to take a bite of their brilliant subs.

It is a powerful reminder of the knee-bending weight of sensory memory--something Yelpers know far too well. It's why I lust after a burrito when I see the SoCal coastline, drool for a cold can of PBR when witnessing the Colorado Rockies, and beg for gumbo in the Louisiana bayou.

So few New York delis are worth the hype. This one is.

The place is small and there generally is a wait. I used to frequent this place for lunch when I worked in the area but that was many years back.  Came in on  a Saturday at about 11am and it was already busy.

I ordered  turkey, hot cappicola and provolone with roasted peppers on a semolina hero. My server suggested that I nix the mayo or mustard b/c the oils from the roasted peppers will be enough liquid for the sandwich. He was right indeed.

It was a good sized hero--perfect for sharing. The bread was not as good as I remember it to be but still a damn good sandwich.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.

While sitting around my apartment in Soho at around 10:30 am on a Saturday, I said to myself, "Self - I want a sammich."

Cut to my furiously Yelping places to get sandwiches that are close to my apartment (I would normally take the subway to City Sub in Park Slope, but on this particular Saturday, I was feeling slightly lazy...). Cut to my discovery of Parisi Bakery.

After a short walk, I found the no-frills Parisi Bakery. After initial confusion as to where I should stand in the large, amorphous blob of people filling the room, I ordered a maple turkey with mozzarella with a cream soda. The sandwich weighed approximately 5 pounds (seriously), and together with the soda cost 8 dollars.

Playa say what? $8 for this massive sammich and soda when I could pay $5 for a mediocre Subway sandwich of similar length? Whoa.

How did the actual sandwich taste? Amazingly fresh. The bread was warm and fluffy, the turkey was tender and had a delicious maple essence and the mozz...amazing.

Parisi Bakery - you've got it going on.

AMAZING.  This place is ALWAYS packed.  Maybe because it's the closest thing to Italian you can get.  I've had the mortadella sandwich with mozzarella and peppers with olive oil.  The portion is enough to put you to sleep if you are on your work lunch.  Service is ok but if you were busy all day with making sandwiches I'd be a little annoyed too.

I must say though I had them make a Prosciutto, mozzarella sandwich for me with basil and oil and vinager - BEST SANDWICH I'VE EVER HAD!!! I love prosciutto and they do not skimp on it with this sandwich.  The mozz is so fresh too.  If you love Italian sandwiches you cannot pass up on this place.

***DISCLAIMER - I copy and pasted this from my new blog (just 2 posts) http://pomoradio.tumbl... ***

So today I was putting together a "hit list" of cheap restaurants to hit around my new apartment in  Nolita.  A 100+ year old bakery/sandwich shop around the corner caught my eye so it jumped to the top of the list ahead of the Asian fare that beckons me from the south.

First of all the space is tiny and after craning my neck to find the sandwich list it is in fact a simple laminated piece of paper taped up in front of the counter. The sandwich that brought me through the door..

    http://www.dineordeath...

...was alas not listed, nevertheless I thought to myself, what's the harm in asking. So I managed to mutter (in the NY accent I've been perfecting all week) "Can ya do a Dennis?" The man behind the counter, who came to deserve the honorific title of simply "The Man", looked down, recited the name of the sandwich again to himself (as if to prepare) and got to work.

A Paris-quality ( I lived there for a year...) baguette was deftly sliced and topped with layer after layer of freshly sliced prosciutto and dripping wet mozzarella, next came the welcome surprise of unanticipated pesto and balsamic goodness.

What happened after that is anyone's guess as The Man ran in to the back with an already lusty treat that would drop Giada DeLaurentiis' panties in a heartbeat.

When he came back the chicken cutlets had magically appeared underneath the ham along with tomatoes on top of the moz. This thing was seriously frickin huge at this point, so much so that I had to stop myself from laughing when The Man asked me "anything else". No sir - baguette, chicken cutlets, prosciutto, fresh mozarella, tomatoes, pesto, and balsamic - I think that about does it.

I hand him $9 and he hands me what feels like a brick in a brown bag, no joke this thing comes in at no less than 3lbs. If I wasn't already, as soon as I turn the corner, I become the coolest guy on my block, noone's got what i got. I'm packin str8 heat son. Enjoyed on the fire escape while listening to this -

I have been getting my sandwich bread from Parisi Bakery. When I had the bread all by itself, I thought it was "OK bread. But Once I turn it into sandwiches, the bread came back to a life. If someone wrote such review, I would probably go 'yeah right' I guess you just have to try it to  see what I mean. As a bread frenetic, I can't emphasize enough how important the bread is in sandwiches. Good bread is the reason why European sandwiches are so minimalistic. You don't have to do a lot on stuffing when you have this good outfit of the sandwiches.
I just had a sandwich that made with the parisi bakery bread (asiago & ham only , no mayo or mustard). The sandwich was so fantastic that it made me say cheesy things like 'a life is sweeter with a good sandwich.'

HUGE sandwiches!  They have several salamis on offer, plus fresh mozzarella and some delicious roasted red peppers.  Get all those things on a sandwich, and I promise you will be happy.  It's a counter-order deli, so don't expect a sit-down lunch experience.  You will wait awhile in line and have to take your sandwich somewhere to eat.  It's worth it though.  Very, very tasty.  The sandwiches are huge, too, so it's easy to split one and save a few bucks!

The best bread - I am leaving NYC and I am going to miss not having their bread for the holidays.  Great sandwiches - nice people -
Have some ProscIutto bread - and the real crunchy crust Italian bread.
I am hungry now just thinking about that place.

The portions at Parisi are as large as advertised, so you will not leave hungry. The meat is standard deli fare (Boar's head) and most of the toppings are the same, but to their credit, they serve fresh mozzarella and delicious italian bread. Service is standard deli fare as well, and when some lady cut to the front of the line to order bread, no one there said a word. I have to admit that I was expecting a little better. Still, not a bad place for a good-sized lunch.
