Review from Ty P.
Los Angeles, CA
Just came back from this place for wine-tasting and the 2 people who worked there were definitely very nice and knowledgeable. The scenery is beautiful and I love the fact that the place is family-owned! woohoo.
They do have a $5 tasting fee now, BUT the fee is waved if you buy a bottle. What else can you ask for? -

OK tasting room. 3stars based on the cheap price ($5 which is comp'd) and plenty of pours (8) and a cheesy gift shop that looks like a Pier One. It made me actually think that this might be too far down to valley for Pinot as they were all a bit lacking in character and fairly bitter. The single vineyard at least had enough acidity. The Syrahs on the other hand both shined, but with Australia's market bottoming out, we are not lacking for great Syrah at discount prices so we passed and went for the Riesling.
Staff attendant was friendly. I accept that that's all we get nowadays at tasting rooms. Watch out for the super big pours of port. They'll knock you on your butt. -

Paraiso wines did not hit the spot for me.
I like the bright fruit of the SLH pinots and these were a different style, a bit bitter and a bit more earthy.
The tasting room was a bit crowded and it was one of these situations where I felt kind of invisible to the person working. Obviously, I am there to taste, so tell me the day's menu and pour. I had to ask for everything I got and had to pay by leaving my money on the counter.
They had a lot of fine chocolate samples and candy for the kids, but if they are going to put food out, I would prefer cheese, olives and meat, which I would happily pay extra for, -

Tasted their white wines and they were just OK. Now their Pinots were just out of this world. We even tasted a Port but I'm not a big fan of the Port which by the way was so sweet that I couldn't stand the sweetness afterwards even w/a piece of chocolate that they gave me. The Pinots, you can't go wrong here. Their tasting room is beautiful. There is a real friendly and sweet dog wondering around their tasting room. When he approaches you he makes a weird face like he's going to be mean by showing you some teeth and he's really a sweetheart and comes around moving his tail towards you. The main thing is that the Pinots are so good. You have to try them. I can't say enough about their Pinots. Sorry, but I can't say the same thing about the 2008 Riesling. This wine is extremely sweet. I should've known better when I saw they had this wine on sale at buy one and get one at 1/2 or something like that they had. This Riesling is a maybe $1.99 wine. It's my opinion only.
The server we had was this somewhat friendly lady who appeared to be rushing us. Don't know why. I tried to focus on my purpose and that was to find a good and complex and yummy Pinots. I did find the Pinot I wanted. In fact I found 2. Paraiso in Spanish means paradise and the views from Paraiso Winery were like being in paradise. The server could be friendlier. But did I mention how good the Pinots are? Gave 3 stars only because the server needed to be more customer-service oriented and because the Riesling SUCKED!Comment from Megan M. of Paraiso Vineyards 10/31/2011
Pinot Noir is definitely our flagship wine grown right here… More » -

Salinas, CA
I needed a day of wine, views, birds singing and NO loud people. I found the answer to my prayers today from 12 to 1 on the patio of this wonderful winery. Their wines are superb, Chardonnay, Eagles Perch fantastic, Pinot Noir, all of them amazing, and the View...serene. I was in my own little world til 30 people in a bus showed up, so off I went to another place. I will definitely come back for another round of R&R&W. See ya soon...Tasting fee reasonable with purchase.

One of my favorite wineries. Their Riesling is amazing, I served it at my wedding and everyone loved it. The view from the porch is breathtaking. Also, everyone that works there is really nice. It's common for around here, but for all of the Napa people that don't know any better, no tasting fees!

We stopped at Paraiso Vineyards in late May of this year with a group of our sixteen "closest" friends. The folks at Paraiso were great hosts. We had a fantastic lunch on their patio, a tour of the vineyards and lots of wine tastings. We left as members of their wine club, bottles in our bags and a real feeling of family teamwork at the vineyard. Son in law David Fleming was our guide and tutor. He was great, very knowledgeable, entertaining and personable. You won't be disappointed visiting this vineyard.

Beautiful views, excellent wines, and most important a tasting room with no attitude. This was the highlight of a week long trip of wine tasting through Paso and Monterey Counties. Special thanks to Jason Smith for his tour of the winery and for lunch. Very much a family business and when you go your sure to be treated a if you were stepping into their home.

I'm a California native and an amateur wino, but I'll admit I didn't realize that right along 101 near Soledad resides a whole string of wineries that are part of the Santa Lucia Highlands region. When we stumbled upon another nearby winery after a hike at Pinnacles and picked up a map to the area, we discovered we were in the midst of a veritable bounty of wine tasting! They even have the little signposts pointing you on your way to the next winery like they have in Sonoma, who knew?? Paraiso happened to be the winery we picked, and we were not disappointed. They had an extensive list of pours, all of which were pretty good but none which completely knocked my socks off. They did offer a delicious port, which is always a big plus in my book, and our pourer was very friendly. There was also an expansive deck that looked out over the valley from which we could see the peaks of Pinnacles gleaming in the late afternoon sunlight, so it really was an appropriate way to relish the end of our day. Final bonus: no tasting fee! That is, at least until other people catch on to the wineries hidden here.
