Authentic Hungarian food. Halupki (stuffed cabbage), goulash, and paprikas are awesome. The beef in the beef paprikas is always super tender. Cabbage and noodles is always a good bet. Obviously I like the food here. Limited appetizers but you really won't need any since the meals are all quite large. They have fresh crepes for dessert. The cheese and fruit blend is excellent although the crepes tend to be a little thick. Service is always good and the family that owns the place is very friendly. This place has a lot of regulars. Prices are reasonable.

If you're looking for Hungarian food, and I mean authentic Hungarian food, come here.  I personally have tried about a 1/3 of the menu and I love everything I've ever ordered here.  The great part about this place is that, even if you're not a meat fan, they have entrees for you.  I'm a big fan of the Cabbage & Egg Noodles(vegetarian but you can get bacon) but I also love their Lecho(vegetarian), their Egg Noodles & Cottage Cheese(vegetarian) and their pork chops are equally as good.  The portion sizes are large so come hungry, but you will get either soup or salad and bread beforehand so eat strategically.  Once you go, make sure Arthur is working and tell him that Kyle sent you.

Food was good. A lot is simple fare (cabbages, potatoes, stews, meat fillings). But it was pretty tasty.

We had ghoulash, which was pretty good. I enjoyed the spetzel like noodles and the broth was very tasty.

We also had one of the stuffed cabbage. This was very good. I could have eaten three of these. Paprikas tomato based sauce is a very nice balance of broth and tomato without being to tomatoey. (Yes, that's not a word, but anyone who eats knows exactly what I mean.  The tomato base didn't have the stewed tomato or tomato soup taste.)

The portions could have been a bit larger. While the stuffed cabbage was a good size.  I felt $7 for one stuffed cabbage was a bit expensive.  The mashed potato side was a small single scoop and didn't really impress me.  That said, I was really left wanting another stuffed cabbage.

Service was kind of slow and haphazard, which considering the place was not very busy during our visit was a touch disappointing.

I would recommend Paprika's to friends visiting the area. Especially if you are one who enjoys stuffed cabbage as it's probably one of the better ones I've had from a restaurant.

Overall score: 3.5  (just a little more would have encouraged me to go with a 4)

    ---

Note: You can park in back and walk up a hallway between the two buildings to reach Paprika's.

Awesome AUTHENTIC Hungarian food.  Owned and operated by a real Hungarian family.  They are incredibly warm and friendly people, greeting diners regularly and genuinely.

Simple, fried pierogies and sour cream for appetizers is my personal favorite.
The chicken paprikas (I believe that's the name) for the main course is awesome; ask for it spicy and it will be even better.
Desserts are great too; home-made crepes.

The wait staff is ridiculously amazing as well; a young-ish Hungarian man named Arthur is the main waiter and he's always got choice stories to share with diners (usually laced with curse words and sex).

Do you have a Hungarian craving?  Halupki? Goulash? Chicken Paprikash?  This is serious comfort food after my own heart.  I stumbled upon this little Eastern European gem in a local ad.  Boy, am I glad I finally paid my visit.   This is about as homey and authentic Hungarian food as you can find, especially in this area.

Their food is really yummy.  The meatballs and gravy were clean-the-plate-with-your-tongue worthy.  The halupkis were delicious and huge.  Speaking of which, the sheer quantity of food you receive at this place was monstrous in portion.  I ordered the chicken paprikash and let me tell you - that dish needed its own zip code.  I was barely able to finish half of it.  I did, however, thought they added too much sour cream to the sauce.  I'm more accustomed to sauce that's more red.  A nice little perk about this dish is that you had your choice of white or dark meats.  Never saw that option available before - anywhere.

The atmosphere was a little dated and definitely not the most eye-appealing establishment (like Hellertown itself - ouch!).  But I can care less about such a trivial aspect when the food is this good and this huge.  The service was very friendly and welcoming.  Not the quickest service but I wasn't in any rush so I didn't mind.  The place was almost empty when we arrived, but it was packed with locals by the time we left.

It's not the typical restaurant you'd find around here but it's definitely worth the trip.  Just come with a completely empty stomach and be prepared to feast.

I haven't physically been to this Hungarian restaurant, but my dad picked up some Chicken Paprikash there for me and described it as a 'down home' kind of place. The Chicken Paprikash was excellent. Super tasty, and the portion I received was absolutely huge. The dumplings were small and delicate. I've heard similar good things about the Halupki and Halushki. If you don't know what any of this is, go to Paprika's and try it!

Update: Actually ate in the restaurant this past weekend. Good, and absolutely huge, Halupki. My husband enjoyed his goulash. Inside is a bit worse for wear at best. And sadly, no kiffles offered for dessert. Get the tasty food to go.

Really liked this place. First all the pros:

    1) I'm a bit surprised at the knacks of customer service. Everyone seemed very friendly, and I believe some of this might come from some of the employees not really having mastered the English language. Great recommendations from the waiter.......

    2) Portion size is LARGE.......and fair priced. Et al.....I paid $12 roughly for 2 haulupki (the size of softballs) and a generous portion of MASHED POTATOES (TRY THEM....AWESOME....maybe my favorite part). Haulupki were excellent.....I'm not Polish / Hungarian / Slovak......but I've eaten at every church in the area that makes this homemade. This was easily right up there with it.

    3) EVERYTHING IS MADE TO ORDER.......nothing comes out of a freezer and into the oven......the items are fresh and not sitting around hoping to be ordered.

Based on this above....I'd give 4+ stars

    Cons:

    1) There is a wierd / unpleasant smell at the doorway. I don't know if it is a bad spice or just garbage trapped between the enterance doors, and the double doors to get in the place (two sets of doors)....but it wasn't appealing

    2) We wanted Perogies (they have homemade)...they were out......We wanted their special fried Hungarian meatballs...they were out (and the waiter was embarassed to say).......if you have your heart set on something, you might want to call first

Everyone has their own opinion....that's the wonderful thing about YELP. I can tell you though...I certainly would go back.....the wallet was not hit hard, this comfort food was great, and I felt good afterword as well (for a starchy dinner....surprisingly didn't feel "thanksgiving full"). This place is sure worth a try.

What a find...drive by sighting instantly required further investigation.

Amazing food, in a simply, yet inviting setting. The entire menu reads like starch laden, saucy, meat bonanza. I love it!

Stuffed cabbage was awesome, very tender and not overly seasoned (ei. salty). The staff was very friendly in a Hungarian, mom's ktchen, you're here to eat and that is it way. Some might call is rude, or short...but you're just too sensitive.

Still exploring all Hellertown has to offer the Lehigh Valley area, but this being our first dining experience in town, it is off to a good start.

My Husband, Son and I heard about this restaurant and had to try it.
I love Hungarian food and we were not disappointed!

Everything is homemade and made to order.

This place is very casual and comfortable. Family owned and run. BYOB and have wine glasses for customer that require them. They only accept reservations for parties of 5 or more.

We started off with a shared Perogie appetizer; the 3 perogies and sour cream were quite tasty. The salads were fresh and crispy, and the dinner rolls were a fresh, chewy bread with ice cold butter.

I ordered the Chicken Paprikas, my Son ordered the Briscoli, and my Husband ordered the Goulash. The portions were huge and beautifully presented.

(Any foodie worth their salt knows that one eats with ones eyes before ones mouth. In this establishment, the food is as beautiful as it is delicious).

When we were told about Paprikas, we had been told to save room for dessert (Hungarian Crepes) but, sadly, even taking home half of our food, still had no room for dessert of any kind.
Maybe next time we'll share an entree so we have room for the dessert!

We fully intend to return here again.
I recommend Paprikas highly and hope to soon be considered a regular!

    Eating is believing.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst & 10 being the best) on the Foodgasm scale, I'd rate Paprikas an 8 1/2

My wife, daughter, and I went to Paprika's for the first time today.

    Wow. What a great experience!

I've had Hungarian food a few times before. Paprika's is the best I've had.

We were greeted by Artur, who made some good suggestions about our meal.

The meatballs, potatoes, and green beans special - my wife and daughter got that and loved it. Thankfully, the meatballs were huge and I got to eat a few bites from my wife's dish - the daughter wasn't giving up any of hers!

I got the Hungarian goulash. VERY tasty and comforting.

The food is ALL made to order. It's delicious, and authentic.

Speaking of which, that's exactly how I would classify this Hellertown gem - if you want some great atmosphere, friendly staff, great, fairly inexpensive food, you can't go wrong with Paprika's!

I can't wait till my next visit!

I frequent this place often and the food is home cooking. I usually order the chicken paprikas or the gypsy pork. Those two dishes are pretty good. The portions are quite large and the food comes out fresh. The owner let me the back of the kitchen on occasions and everything is made from scratch. Grinding sausage to cutting and mashing potatoes.

Sure the decor can use some work, but I rather have a restaurant put money into the food, first and foremost.

If you are looking for some good wholesome Hungarian food, you gotta go to Paprikas.

I ordered the chicken paprika and the order was enormous. I'm really amused by the homemade Hungarian noodles that come with the dish - they look like little dumplings and I find them really tasty.

My friend had the vegetarian dish and he seemed to enjoy it as well.

It's not fancy food, but it's nice to try once in a while!

If you can get past the smell of decomposing garbage on the side of the building you will be disappointed to find a dumpy little spot with a an equally dumpy and rude manager. I was visiting the area and tried to get some takeout on a very quiet saturday nite and was told that "they didn't have enough food" . I didn't even get to ask what I wanted! The place was about 1/4 filled with a couple of "reserved" signs on some other tables and it was about 6PM.  Such rudeness and poor customer service should not be tolerated.

Saw a review on Yelp, so made a beeline to this restaurant when it turned out to be a block away from Saylor's & Co. meat market.  We arrived just in time for opening for lunch and were very disappointed when told that the goulash (recommended by another reviewer) was not available - not ready yet!  We settled for Chicken Paprikas, which was disappointing for the price of $7.95 - no vegetables included, just a somewhat tasty sauce, far too much spaetzle, and chunks of chicken breast.  The stuffed cabbage (Halupkies) that went by to another table made me think that we should have tried that.  If I am in the neighborhood, I might stop by and try for the goulash again, but I wouldn't make a special trip.  The restaurant was clean and kind of diner-ish - a comfortable family restaurant feel to it.

Update:  returned with friends when in the area, amazingly the  goulash was still not available (?)  I tried the stuffed cabbage this time and found it just 'okay' for my taste - maybe I'm spoiled by my neighbor's cooking of this kind of food. The rolls are delicious, but not good enough to make me drive 16 miles to eat here again. However, I feel it only fair to state that my friends said they often eat at Paprika when they are in the neighborhood and really enjoy it.

I have eaten here MANY times. I really do like the food but always feel like the portions aren't big enough, so I'm surprised by some of the comments saying how big the portions are here. I always feel like we need to order 3 dinners for 2 adults. All of the food is homemade, tasty Hungarian food. If we arrived early, sometimes we are told a particular dish isn't ready yet. If we go later, they run out of certain dishes. Not having dishes ready and running out of other dishes on a regular basis is a turn off as a paying customer. The restaurant is a no frills simple type of restaurant. I think they could do something to liven the place up a bit. The staff is just ok, nothing outstanding. I do enjoy the crepes for dessert. It's a dish you can't find anywhere else. I'd love to give this little restaurant 5 stars because I do like the food, but, at the same time I always get annoyed at the portion sizes, running out of dishes, and not having other dishes ready. It's a continual pattern, so I can't give it 5 stars.
