It seems that reading most of the gripes on this place is that it's not an authentic Irish bar. Yeah. That's because you're not in Ireland. If you want that your best/only bet in this country is a few places in Boston or Chicago. That being said, I love this bar. Partially for camp value, partially for the fact that it's one of the only games in town for a full bar that stays open until two and partially for the people watching/weirdness that it always gives me.

You walk in through the door, the bouncers have always been friendly. There's a bar on the right, some tables on the left. Walk up to the bar and get a good sized drink and move on through the hall and push back a curtain to find yourself in the middle of a sweet dance club that will either be bumpin sweet 90s hip hop or thumping techno music.

After a couple drinks I'm typically even drunker than I was when I walked in after a full day of wine tasting in the hills and people start to look weird. And do weird things. And I notice them much more than I originally had at the beginning of the night. When all is said and done there's typically an interesting conversation to be had with someone outside waiting for a cab to get back to the room.

If you want an Irish bar, go to Dublin. If you're in Paso, I'd recommend drinking here for at least a bit.

The only place in Paso to go dancing! DJ on Saturday night spinning on the back patio. The bartender was friendly. A good set of beers on tap.

Our group also had dinner here earlier. Food was decent. The burgers were popular, especially with the garlic fries. The mac & cheese was ok. Nachos sounded better than they tasted. Fish and chips, their signature, were a bit greasy. The cioppino was really good and hearty with the garlic bread, except for the fact that I got a big piece of funky textured fish. If I hadn't had that in the mix, it would've been great and I'm not a picky eater. I think it comes with the territory of ordering a seafood stew.

Stiff drinks @ steep prices.  Don't mind getting what I paid for but considering the general crowd (9:30 pm-pre DJ crowd, Red Bull & Jager hacked up hipsters & some poseur LA tourists) didn't really set the right mood for a supposed "Irish Bar & Grill"

    Overall...decent place...kinda, sorta.

First time in made me think of a trendster tourist trap, and I was right. Place looks like a wanna be Irish Pub that someone encased in 7 layers of lacquer then hung way too much crap up on the walls. The food is overpriced by about $4 - $5 a plate + nearly strip club prices on their drinks. I was asked to give the place a second chance and got food poisoning. They need some help in the kitchen if they are going to charge those prices and apparently someone needs a refresher course in cross contamination do's and don'ts. If money is no object, you stick to deep fried foods, and you like guys in Affliction t-shirts this is the place for you in Paso Robles.

P.S. I'm a chef and before that I was a bartender for 6 years, just so you understand this rating is not fueled simply by my food poisoning but by an understanding of both the restaurant and bar buisness.

A decent "hole in the wall" pub -- nice change from wine and cheese . . .
Nice beer selection -- on tap and in bottles.  Happy Hour is 11- 6, so large pints were $4 (I think?)

Had fish & chips and a BLTA sandwich -- decent food -- garlic fries were great, but way, way too many of them & too much food.  FWIW -- a little garlic goes a long way -- we ended up going back to our hotel & brushing our teeth b/c the garlic was a tad overwhelming.  Overall, left bloated and ended up skipping dinner, which wasn't our intention.  Not many light options on the menu, so plan ahead & share if you're not too hungry.

Nice divey kind of place -- opens up more at night -- outdoor dining is an option once it's a bit cooler outside because the front patio faces west.  We don't stay out partying, so cannot comment on the night life component -- just the regular dinner crowd ambience.

This place reminds me of Santa Cruz on a Saturday Night.. Last weekend= Bachelorette Party in Wine Country. After getting some food we needed a place to continue the party.. found this place..

The BeatFreakz were spinning and they were good.. definitely played a good mix of the popular stuff, old school and some techno.

There were tons of strobe lights and other lighting to give someone a seizure...

The back patio is like going to someone's garage party...interesting mix of folks..there are lights strung out.. and strung out people.. in going to the bathroom there were two girls that were snorting something totally in plain view... awesome..

At around 12:30 folks had that glazed over look you can only get from a few things which I will  not mention... until some folks who totally on some kind of upper started "dancing" and acting crazy.. at that point we decided it would be best to bizounce.

Just fyi, this place seems to be under new management and is now called Pappy Mcgregors.

Dropped in on aSaturday night after browsing around some of the other downtown bars (Downtown Brew, Pine Street Saloon). Stopped ehre for the live rockabilly band.

The band was playing on a neat patio in the back- nothign fancy, but it was great to be outdoors. The drinks were strong, and everything was up to snuff for an irish themed place. Nothing special, but nothing abhorrent either.

If you want gourmet, get out of my bar! This is a great bar to meet people yet the bar food is better than most. They dont try to be too gourmet or fancy like those just down the street. The bartenders are awesome. Very nice and make drinks to order. Get the Wings, irish nachos, or buffalo chicken salad...  They have nice cold beer and good selection of local wines. I have been going here for years and they are not under new management, they try to get better and change things for the better of the customers all the time. Name change from "The Kilt" or "Crooked Kilt" came after legality issues and nothing more.....
Get there early and stay late!

2 stars for service...it was excellent! -3 for the food. Tolerable to awful. We had the prime rib chili, calamari, burger and (yes, i KNOW it was a stupid idea...but it's there right next to the fish & chips on their SPECIALTY menu!) Cioppino :( BF had a beer and I had a Margarita. Chili wasn't bad, minus the fact we never did find that prime rib in it. Calamari was also fairly toberable, ate most of that, again their SPECIALTY. The burger was mediocre at best, the Cioppino, i had about 4 spoonfuls, i was too afraid i would get food poisioning, it just didnt taste right. The maragarita was bland and undrikable, i left over 1/2 (and if you know me, you know it's gotta be bad for that to happen! ;) Highy unrecommend

The signs and t-shirts called this Pappy McGregors but at 1:00am on a Friday night, there wasn't that much celtic going on here, just bumpin music, with a crowd dancing a little bit in the courtyard (which was fun) and a lot of people standing around and enjoying the music.   Pretty crowded, the beer selection was okay and the cash only bar in the back of the courtyard had no line, which was nice.  We danced a little on the small "dance at your own risk" stage and then chatted with others before closing time arrived.

one of the few places really going in Paso late night.

Roadtripping to Paso for a weekend, my friends and I decided to grab lunch. It was my first time ever in downtown Paso. It was such a quaint little area! Two people ordered sandwiches, and two ordered burgers. I got the Jalapeno burger. That thing was GINORMOUS! It came with fries, and the burger was about 8" tall, 6" in diameter. I ate only a third of it and some garlic fries. The fries were delish, but the burger was only good. The spice level was good, but what I didn't go bananas about was the sauce that came with it. It was too creamy for my liking.

Service was good.  We sat in the back patio of the Crooked Kilt, there was only one other table out there with us. We were afraid they would forget about us, but they didn't. Also, they were nice to us even though we were in a rush (we had places to go!). I suggest to no sit in the back patio. There are flies everywhere! More than anywhere else I've been to in the states!

A group of friends and I were looking for a cold beer and a nice meal after a long, hot day of motorcycling. The Kilt seemed to be just the thing with Guinness, Harp, and Anchor Steam on tap.

Unfortunately, our expectations were dashed by horrible service. We all agreed that it was the worst we'd seen in quite a while. Now, I'm willing to cut a restaurant some slack if I happen to get a bad server, but the rest of the folks appear to be trying. But if the bad service is pervasive, then I have to fault the management, and let people know about it.

Point one: we are greeted and told we can have an outside table in 5-10 minutes, so we go to the bar for a beer (we're thirsty!) The bar is mostly empty, but the counter is covered with dirty dishes, and the lone bartender is filling drink orders for multiple tables. Finally a busboy comes to clear the dishes, and the bartender bitches him out - in front of customers. After ~10 minutes, we finally get our beers.  I don't have a good feeling already.

Point two: we get seated in the back patio, and wait for a server. Another 15 minutes elapse before she shows.

Point three: We order appetizers and entrees. Our appetizers are buffalo wings and oysters - nothing too complicated. It takes another 20 minutes before the appetizers come out, and by then we're ready for more beer, so order another round.

Point four: The drinks never show until we ask again when the entrees come out.  We also ask for some ketchup, which never comes. One of our party goes into the bar to fetch some, and sees the two servers who brought our food, chatting. They see him fetching the ketchup he'd requested and say nothing.

Point five: When the drinks finally arrive, they mix up the beers. Fortunately we know enough to tell an Anchor from a Harp. (I would think this would be pretty obvious to anyone who'd worked in a bar more than 10 minutes.)

Point six: Needless to say the check is incredibly slow in arriving. We can't wait to get out of this horrorshow of a restaurant.

To be fair, the food was OK - basic pub food. But even if it was fantastic, it could never overcome the completely inept and careless service.

We tried to go here for dinner once on a previous Paso trip but the kitchen was closed by the time we got there.  Thankfully, on our most recent trip, we were early enough!

We'd opted for a pub rather than a proper restaurant because an important football game was on that weekend, and the bartender was happy to change the channel of the TV closest to us.  For food, I had a turkey club & my bf had a burger, both of which were ENORMOUS.  Seriously, for the price, I was shocked at how much food showed up, & actually ended up saving half of it for lunch the next day.  Also, it was pretty tasty.

We ordered calamari to munch on while we waited for our food to come out, not really expecting much, but I have to say, it was far from the worst calamari I've ever had.  Given that it's a pub & not a fancy restaurant, I was half expecting the squid to be chewy & overcooked, but it was actually quite tender & not chewy at all.  Yum!  I also ordered onion rings instead of fries with my burger, which were enormous and pretty good as well.

Really glad we had a reason to eat there once, so that I know it's a viable option. :)

If a break from all the wine you're bound to be drinking while visiting Pasol Robles, then Crooked Kilt (or Kilt I think it's called nowadays) is your place.

Came here last weekend because I was in the mood for hot wings and beer. No wine and cheese tonight was the plan! Thanks to good ol' reliable Yelp I was able to find a pub that will serve just that.

The boyfriend and I ordered a plate of the prime rib nachos (**drools**) and the boneless wings (couple of chicken strips cut into even smaller strips). I ordered a black and tan (or something like that) with Guinness and Harp. My BF ordered the flight of Jameson (woo hoo!!).

We met a few cool people, locals and tourist alike. The dancing I must say was HILARIOUS!!! Yea sure, the DJ spun some new tunes as well as my request (E-40 ninjas!!!!), but no one really "got low" or whatever the cool kids call it these days. So if you're not into people "freakin" all over the dance floor, then Kilt is for you!

Great little find while staying in Paso.  We sat outside so that our dog could dine with us and we were able to see the big screen from our table to watch the Giants move on to the Natl League Championships.

Our server was really nice although not the speediest, but we were not looking to eat and run.  The servings were quite large with lots of food left over.

I ordered the fish and chips - it came with 5 huge pieces!  I could barely finish 2.  Hubby had one of the super burgers which came on a bed of fries.  They do not skimp here.

Strong mixed drinks, above average food, and friendly service. Came here with my mom last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I got the salmon wrap and she had the steak salad. The salmon was tender, it went well with the peanut sauce and lettuce/ wonton chips they put in it. The salad had a yummy vinagarette and the steak was quite peppery (which we enjoyed) and also had nice texture, not chewy at all. The salad came with bleu cheese chunks and my wrap came with sweet potato french fries which were really crunchy and delicious. These little extras really made the dish. Prices are between 10-14 ea for dinner...not bad. The vibe is typical bar scene, with a bit more class. Oh , and of course they got the girls rockin' the kilts. I definitely recommend this place.

So, I came here with a few friends one a game day. It was the battle of the Bay for football. The place has two wings to it. One wing was super packed with people watching the game and had more bar area. The other wing had more tables and was less crowded that day.

I wasn't that hungry and decided to get something light. Most of the food looked like it would be a heavy meal. I got the prime rib bites which I believe was about $14 or something. The came soaked in sauce. I would say they were pretty decent. The horse radish sauce they provided wasn't as thick as I would like it to be.

But I will say, they deals on pitchers looks great. I recall seeing something like $15 or $10 for pitchers. I can't remember the details though.

Came in after my sister's wedding - still rockin the bridesmaid gear.  Loved the Stellas in imperial pints and the cool bartenders.  Oh, and the dancing...I hadn't gotten my full dancing fix at the wedding, and I still needed to get the wiggles out.

Great clientele too - nice locals, and even ran into a bunch of fellow Chico grads.  Sweet.

I'm torn on how I want to rate this place. I went here once for food, it was at lunch time and the burgers were excellent. So, food wise, good stuff. I've been here 3 or 4 times on Friday and Saturday nights with friends, and it was (IMHO) realllllyyyy boring. Every time we come here for nightlife, I'm always left wondering why the hell we came to this place. We always leave right away or stay in boredom. Most of the people that work here are really great, but I have experienced 1 or 2 duds. I'm going to stay away from the nightlife here, but I do think I need to come here more often for lunch.

    "The Kilt: What Lies Beneath"

My buddy and I had one objective: find a place where we can enjoy some alcohol and our Monterey bought cigars.

After a day of wine tasting and a tease of beer, we decided we'd stick with brewskis - appropriate as beer was the foundation of our friendship since college. Beer made us sing louder, dance with reckless abandon, and allowed us to tap into our true selves - manly lushes.

We were also hungry so we planned on grubbing hard and then smoking while drinking.

The cute hostess told us we could smoke out in the back and order our food in the bar/restaurant area. But luckily we were able to snag a table right in the middle of the smoking section and quickly ordered burgers and beers at the satellite bar. The service from the waiting staff (they of the crooked kilts) rocked. We never had to flag anyone down, the fine lasses were always around when needed.

While the inside was your typical urban pub, the outdoor area in the back felt like someone's party-friendly backyard. We quickly lit up our stogies, downed our brews and we were happy that a funk reggae band, Nada Rasta, would be providing us some tunes.

The back started filling up with a mostly college crowd of bros and attractive chicks (even before the beer goggles).

Our burgers came out and they were HUGE. We're talking cartoonish!
I ordered the Blarney Stone Burger (about $10) - the house favorite - a massive Hearst Ranch beef patty on a ciabatta roll with bacon, onion rings, American cheese, bbq sauce on top of a bed of garlic fries. It was as amazing as it was large. I'd rate this as one of the top 5 burgers that I've had in California. I'm the kind of guy that will polish off my entire plate - as long as it's decent. The serving was so huge that while I was able to consume the burger, I left a small handful of the delicious garlic fries. I only had room for beer.

Brews were in the $4 range for domestic and $5 + for imported pints. They even have $2 Guinness 11 pm to Midnight every night.

We were probably a good 10 years older than the majority of the patrons there that night, but my friend and I we were having a blast, drinking, smoking, and crude crooning away (the band covered "Girls" from the Beastie Boys for God's sake) making this stop one of the surprise highlights of the trip.

If you're looking for a lively fun spot in Paso Robles, this would be THE place. This night was special as they delivered all across the board - food, service, great crowd, entertainment, and fun.

I can't wait to get back under the Kilt.

So our first server was pretty cool. If he asked William Wallace, 'Do I get to kill any English?" I'm sure Braveheart wouldn't have batted an eyelash before saying "Aye." Unfortunately, we ended up with a different server, and the experience ended much like Braveheart did: not a happy ending.

Server number two was a 40-something calamity named Sherri. Holy crap she needed to be working somewhere else, e.g. a truck stop. Her spray on tan and exposed 40 year old midriff did nothing to distract me from her lack of interest in our table and "What the hell are you doing in my restaurant?" attitude.

Another server came by at first and took our drink orders and checked our IDs. Then Cruella de Ville came back over and said, "This is MY table! I need to see your IDs myself!" We showed them to her and she took our drink order again, as if the other server didn't mean anything to her.

We asked her to split the check and she looked at us like we asked her to stop going to the tanning booth. "No I can't split the check, honey. You're gonna have to figure it out yourself." So we did the math and write each person's name and their total on the check. She came back and said, "What the hell is this?!" So we explained how the name is next to the total. She returned with the checks with the wrong totals on all of the checks. I know it is rude to tip low, but sometimes people deserve it. She deserved her one dollar tip from all five of us.

Needless to say, the Ortega chicken sandwich was delicious, as were the garlic french fries. Too bad the service was so terrible. It really ruined my lunch and I will probably never eat here again.

Good beer.. decent food..  I saw some Kilts and well, like I said before the beer is good.   Ordered the burger.. and it was yummy.. but cheap on the meat cut but they bragged about it being Hearst Ranch beef.  You know.. that William Randolf Hearst guy that built Hearst Castle on a giant bluff over looking the Pacific Ocean, and barely lived in it so now the State of California has a like keep it the place up at a zillions of dollars every year.  Anyways.. around the immediate parts of the castle are these grazing cows.   There aren't a whole lot of them visible, but he did use to own millions of acres around there.  Order the oysters too... and those a bit nice... quite better than you're usual pub quality.    I already talked about the beer..  but I ordered a "Black and White"  Its was cold and delicious.

After reading a previous review, I must preface this by saying: I'm nowhere near 21, and not even a little desperate!

If you're tired of wine, and want something unpretentious, try out The Crooked Kilt. They've still got a pretty deep wine list, but they've also got a lot of great local beers. They do somewhat gourmet spins on pub food, in the best possible sense - my boyfriend's burger was far yummier than the average burger, and my mac and cheese knocked my socks off. There seem to be a lot of locals here, and everyone was friendly and happy to engage in conversation.

Watched the world cup finals here. Seemed like the best option for a sports afternoon in Paso. Good thing the crowd was ready for a good time because the staff was completely indifferent.

The bartender never smiled at us or other patrons. They clearly did not consider it their job to get the party started.

While the drinks & atmosphere were great. I wouldn't return due to mediocre service--not bad, just boring.

"Pretty" is not enough to qualify someone to tend bar. Personality is a must.

Surprisingly nice and charming Irish sports pub.

We came here looking for the Bears game as it is apparently the only place in town with NFL Sunday ticket.  It had both games we needed to see in one bar and the rest on televisions on the other side.  The Guinness Stout they poured was the freshest I've ever seen - with the cream well over the top of the glass.

Service was friendly and they have plenty of drink specials, expecially for Lakers games.  Didn't eat here but the food looked very good.  A nice surprise.

This place goes off on St Patties, which was the first time I went here. It's the best place in Paso for nightlife, but that really doesn't say too much. Drinks are a bit steep for how divey the place is, but the beer is always good so I don't mind too much. Didn't eat but a different time some people I was with ordered some food and it looked pretty tasty.

If you're stuck in Paso and can't entertain yourself then this is the first place you should go. Just don't expect too much, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. Probably just isn't my crowd, a lot of other people seem to have a blast here.

I don't know that I feel qualified to actually review a place known for its pub fare and good beer prices when I ordered a cobb salad and water, but here we are.

The restaurant/bar is divided across what I trust used to be two separate shops that it ultimately consumed. Consequently, neither segment is very large, but it didn't feel particularly cramped inside. Great place to watch sports, as would be expected. The salad itself was decent (and rather large), and priced accordingly ($12, as I recall).

The service was somewhat slow, but since we were distracted by a combination of conversation and football games, it wasn't too noticeable, and everyone was certainly friendly and helpful. I definitely plan to make a return trip at some point so I can actually sample their burgers and beer, but I simply wasn't feeling such fare this particular trip.

This is the Perfect place to stop for a pint in Paso.  We hit it up before going to the Mid State Fair to see Aerosmith.  You have to try the pub fare, their food is amazing.  We had the buffalo wings and calamari strips.  Both were pretty darn tasty.

The service we recieved was lacking though.  The gal who was helping us seemed pretty clueless when it comes to anythign on the food or beverage menu.  We were guessing it was her first day.

None the less 2 thumbs up for the Crooked Kilt!

Dead at 8:30pm on Saturday. We were hoping for live music based on reviews. All we saw were old guys hunched over their beers. Disappointed.

There's a good selection of beer here, and the food is great. The staff is cool too. Check out the burgers and tacos.

Good pub.  Didn't try the food, but good service...   ask the bald guy with the super deep voice to sing for ya.. he's great!

DJ dancing on Thursdays (if I recall correctly) .. that was fun.

We went here for dinner after a long day of wine tasting.  We decided to sit out front to enjoy a beer and our dinner.  I ordered a Guinness and fish and chips.  I got 2 huge pieces of fish and some amazing garlic fries!   The food was good and cheep.

In the back their was a DJ or karaoke and a dance floor where tons of people were having a great time.  All in all, it was a fun bar.  It seems that if your an out of towner you need to watch out a little bit.

This is one of my favorites for the menu and the food. Their Tartar Sauce is to die for!!!! If you like perfect tartar sauce this is it! It has all the traditional Irish comfort foods... Fish & Chips, Calamari, Shepherd's pie, Mac and cheese and great salads.

It is a happening place into the wee hours and has local favorite bands playing either nightly or for sure on the weekends (depending on weather and perhaps seasonal?)  out on the patio and Irish groups inside on certain nights which makes it very quaint. The seating is adequate inside but a little funky and not ample. You either have your choice of higher tables or a couple tables against the wall with a kind of booth bench seat. But we always seem to get in without waiting.

The service is always so so... you usually have to ask for something more than once each visit. They don't tend to write your order down which would be fine and even admirable if they remembered everything you asked for! My suggestion is get an order pad honey... you'll get a better tip. Every once in a while, you will get a great server and they get all the $$$ I may have not given in another tip! Remembering my water and extra tartar sauce gets rewarded! :)

The thing is... I tip very well because I used to be in the business so when I don't tip well... you have to fall pretty short. All I can say is when I was hired long ago for a server job the Manager at the time told me.... you can give yourself a raise daily by being the best you can be! True there are some cheapskates that use any excuse not to leave a tip or to leave an insulting one but I didn't let those creepers set the tone for the other guests who appreciated my service!

Went here with my mom while staying in Paso Robles a few weeks ago.  We had already been wine tasting and went to the bar in our hotel, so this seemed like a perfect fit.  The burgers were excellent, we will be back.

We had a great quick lunch at the Crooked Kilt.   The food was really good and we loved the atmosphere of the bar.  I cant comment on what it turns into at night, but during the day it was a cool little pub with good food!

Our meals came out quickly from the kitchen and both were well sized (I got a burger, Kels got a club sandwich) and had a huge bed of really good garlic fries.  I think it was around ~30 for the 2 of us with 2 drinks which is a bit high for lunch but it was good so it didn't seem like we were getting ripped off or anything.   The service was friendly and I guess the waitresses all wear kilts which have a nice (short) length to them for the benefit of all the male patrons :)
