7 reviews for Pappas Restaurant
Great place for local crab - and why are you in Maryland if you're not going to eat crab, huh? - and cheap beer. And it has free wifi!
Service is a bit slow at times, even when it's not that crowded.
I thought the crabcakes here were only, despite their claim to be Maryland's best (everyone claims this, of course, but I had heard good things). Far too much filler and a slightly off-putting taste in my mind. The price wasn't too bad, but this place is definitely nothing special.
Other menu items were very underwhelming, particularly the salads. The service was a tad slow. I doubt I'll ever go back, although this place is very close to my house.
I've never actually eaten at Pappas'. With everyone in town for the holidays, my family got crabcakes to go and then broiled them at home. They were some of the best I have ever had. Fresh, lump crab meat with perfect amount of filler/binder to keep the whole thing together. They really were nearly perfect.
I don't like giving 5 stars, but these really were nearly perfect in size, texture, and taste.
One of the Best crab cakes I've ever had. 7 Ounces - ALL JUMBO LUMP! I've had crab cakes everywhere and this is definitely the one of the best.
I've lived literally three minutes away from this place for practically my whole life and never set foot in there until a year or so ago.
If you want a cheap draft in a mug so cold any runoff freezes before it hits the bar, hit the sports bar. The crowd isn't the youngest (or oldest) or hippest, but they're friendly and the staff is quick. It's usually not overly crowded, either, so it's a good place to hit if you want a quiet night.
The crabcakes are good. You might be able to find better somewhere in the state, but I haven't managed it yet. The prices are good--not especially expensive for what you're getting.
Go to hang out with a couple folks, have a beer, maybe a sandwich. Don't expect anything fancy or pretentious, and you'll be fine.
We went out last night with a group of friends (8 people). We were very
surprised at how nice
it was inside- it wasn't expected from they way it looked on the outside. A
bunch of us got
the Maryland Crab Cake- Six ounces of Chesapeake Bay jumbo lump crabmeat
delicately
blended with our award winning recipe (however it did have a good deal of filler
but a lot of
big chunks of meat- I diddid come across a few tiny pieces of shells in it). We
were out
celebrating my birthday and plenty of people who worked there stopped by to wish
me a
happy birthday. The service people were very nice and friendly. The food was
average. I
think I would have to go back and give the food another chance.
I ate here a couple of weeks ago, and then a week later had takeout. All I can really speak for are the crab cakes, which are probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. As other reviewers have noted, they are awesome!
I did not give 5 stars because of the extremely long wait when we ate there. They said 20 minutes, but it ended up being over 45 and some that came after us got seated before us.
