Get your Eagle Rock property while the recession is still in full swing folks, because this neighborhood continues to prove it's not just up-and-coming, but already there. Paper is an example of why. It's a small boutique shop that carries greeting cards, a small assortment of books, some casual baby onesies and other assorted home goods like glittery bottle cap magnets and whimsically nostalgic woodland creature paintings on wood chip. It's a one stop shop when you have a last minute gift to purchase or like in this instance for me, you happen to be waiting for a friend and have time to waste. Only, my time wasn't wasted at all.

The woman running the store informed me as I walked in that everything was 20 percent off because it was one of the monthly Eagle Rock Block Party nights (I mentioned I love Eagle Rock, right?). Their red and white lantern outside the shop is actually what had called me into the store in the first place, like a siren drawing me in with the knowledge I am a sucker for paper goods and would easily fall victim to its cute and witty offerings if only tempted with the subtlest of calls.

I purchased two cards, an Egg Press birthday one with a camel blowing out extra long candles on his cake (Do I have anyone with an upcoming birthday to give this card to? Of course not. But I have ridden a camel, I'm Moroccan, I have lashes almost as long as theirs, so let's forgive the momentary silliness of the purchase) and a Hello Lucky! card that reads, "Sorry (I can be a real crab)" with a crab on the front, because lord knows I'm "emotional" and there will be occasion to use that one.

This isn't the type of store you drive from Westwood or even Echo Park to visit-it's just too small, but if you're a local or wish you were one, it's perfect for a quick stop in.

Keep it local, Yelpers!!

Paper is a perfect example of the type of shop that I can only rant and rave about.  If love came in the form of greeting cards, gift bags, and even random little gifts that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere, then MAN would I be love struck.

The owner is one of the nicest people around, and truly commited to the Eagle Rock community.  I can't say I've been anywhere in Los Angeles that has such a great selection of independent stores. SHOP HERE.  The cards are far more interesting and funny than you will find in any target, papyrus, or hallmark, so don't sell out, stop in at Paper. and give your friends some quality.

10 stars if it were possible.

Paper is such a cool little store. Truly an Eagle Rock gem.

When you want to stay local and you've got to grab a gift, a card and the wrapping, Paper is your one-stop shop!

All killer, no filler. Paper is just the perfect shop. Great vibe, great owner who is extremely cool and helpful and a very carefully picked selection of cards, wrappings and gifts. It's like having a personal shopper present you with only the best options to choose from.

I came across Paper on a chance visit to Eagle Rock and I couldn't have been more delighted. It only took seconds to realize every item in the store was carefully chosen to reflect a very cool and hip sensibility--cards, books, wrapping paper, t-shirts and even computer bags. After my purchase, I even got a fun little magnet thrown in as a token of appreciation. I'll definitely be back.

A small and very artistic place for letterpress, gifts and wraps. An eccentric variety of wrapping paper patterns and handmade cards and stationary.

They also have a small book room in the back of the store that I would have probably missed if the sales associate didn't tell me it was there! ^_^ They carry a variety of eccentric titles, like graffiti art, usually found in chain stores like Urban Outfitters.

As for the stationary and wrapping, I really love the patterns they have. I found a very high quality Space Invaders that got plenty of positive reactions when I showed it to other people.

Downside? I came in looking for origami paper and they don't carry it. Odd, huh? Still, it's definitely a place worth taking a gander if you're looking for something unique and very artistic.

Yay!  Mark one for the locally owned shops!  Great place for that hand made card-sassy card and wrapping paper... and good selection of hip gifty gifts and and books.  Very community minded store with a great sense of humor and assistance.

More of what we need...small businesses with smartly curated products rather than enormous bog box stores selling 95% garbage chosen by computers. Head here for a tight selection of cards, books and gifts and, of course, paper. Stores like Paper are what turn a street into a neighborhood and what makes Eagle Rock rock.

Cool paper shop with eclectic stationery and a cute selection of books in the back.  Preferred over the more expensive places around town.  Not necessarily well priced but still cheaper than Flax in Westwood or Vromans.  And definitely more artsy.  Just another reason why Eagle Rock is a great place.
