"This has to be one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants, when it comes to good, authentic, south american food. Food is delicious,…" read more »
I've eaten here many, many times. The service is some of the best I've ever had; very attentive and polite, but not smothering. The food is terrific, not too garlic-y. I like the clay pot chicken, fried calamari, and all of their pastas. Even their house Cabernet is a wonderful BV.
It's great for business lunches or friendly dinners. The patio is especially good for celebrations or dates.
When I'm not eating sushi, I'm usally eating salads, pizza, pasta, burgers, steaks, Chinese, Thai, seafood... Oh! I really am a food whore. Who knew? (All my friends). My boss once watched me take down a huge submarine sandwich, a large sweet ice tea and then two pieces of cheescake at a conference. He said, "Where the hell do you put it?" I just pointed to my bottom. All roads lead to my rump.
This place is wonderful. You can sit outside and enjoy your food as the anorexics pass by. Mmmmm, lasange. And you can't have any skinny Minnie.
The stuffed artichoke is to die for. So is the mozarella and tomato appetizer. Cheese? Nom, nom, nom. The carpaccio sings! Yes, opera.
If you want something light, the salads are very nice. As is the pizza margherita.
Now. I think tiramisu has been done to death. But the raspberry tart? It doesn't get any better.

Loved this place! We sat on the patio and it was perfect. The place was crowded but it wasn't overly noisy. The food was really good. Since it was a large group of us, we ordered from the pre fixe menu. We started off with the pizza margherita and puttanesca which were really good. I had the lasagne gratinate and I sampled the roasted chicken dish and the salmon. All were great.
This is a great date place. Sit in the patio if you can. Valet parking is in the back. I would def go again.

Pane e Vino makes me proud to have a hard vowel at the end of my surname. Let's face it, LA's got plenty of great restaurants, but few can match the level of service P&V offers. The servers here are knowledgeable, kind and prompt. Feel free to ask questions about any of the dishes or wines and you'll get an honest answer. Yes, not always the answer you're hoping for.
As for the food, it's nothing short of wonderful. It's been a while but I believe osso buco (despite being Milanese) is offered as a special every now and again. If you're there on that special evening, savor it with a fine wine.
Call ahead and make reservations for the patio. It's intimate, it's floral and it's the right place to enjoy a fine meal with good friends or your schnookums.
La bella vita tutta la vita!
Great date place, or a girls night out... I love sitting on the patio especially on a warm summer night. Beautiful place, great Italian food. yummmmm

I am not a big Italian food fan. Really pasta is pasta in my book. I took my buddy there for his birthday. He loved it. The service was okay. The manager - Mary is SUPER! Very friendly and really welcoming!
There is an outdoor patio that is just adorable. GREAT date place. We sat inside because there was no wait inside. I had a very nice pasta with sausage it was very good BUT not 16.95 good. I have to be honest. If the prices were different I maybe would be a five star person.
It was very L.A./West Hollywood Italian food. I like rustic not yuppie.
Try it you might like it.
I fell in love with their outdoor/patio area. Make sure to make reservations outside if you want to take someone special. The food is above average and I would normally rate this a 3, but I gave them an extra star for the excellent service! It was one of those days, when I wasn't feeling very well and for some reason I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat. Our server actually helped me create my own dish! He ran back and forth from the kitchen to our table to make sure it can be made!!! And it tasted wonderful! =D

Outdoor dining on the hidden patio that resembles a southern style courtyard with hanging lights and twinkling underneath the ivy clad walls... the food is IMMACULATE the wine list is extravagant.
Reservations suggested. Ask to sit outside!

Lots of celeb sightings and, if plastic surgery disasters don't nauseate you, feel free to look around.
The service is okay for a busy busy place like this but don't expect to have your booty kissed unless you're either some kind of celeb or, at very least, look like one.
Nobody does it better than Barbazon, oops I mean Pane e Vino.

Revision #1:
So, this place is just doing less and less for me each and every time. The waiter can barely speak English; I think he is trying to fake a bad Italian accent. The food is still just not hitting a warm spot in my heart and really the only thing that is consistent is teh olive oil. I wish I had better news. I lowered it 1 star now!
Original post:
This is a very cute place. The outdoor patio is as big as the restaurant. Went there for the 2nd time last night and saw Jeremy Piven. Totally a low key place with an upscale feel. The prices are great, the wine list is full of options and the food is great. The service is very spot on. The actually "cap" your ashtray when you have a butt in it; not many places do that these days - very nice touch. The young manager guy is cool and always welcoming. They have this $64.00 2 lb rib eye steak that is just awesome. It is so much food we took half of it home and made steak sandwiches the next day! It was like being back home in Italy the way they presented the meal and prepared the food.

I'm told this place is normally packed. Luckily, the new year holiday kept people in there homes and i was able to enjoy a delicious dinner outside on the patio with the full attention of my waiter and very quick food service.
We started off with My fellow guests ordered the Carciofo Ripieno, Freddo (cold artichoke stuffed with bread, artichoke heart, tomatoes, vinaigrette). Simply divine. The vinaigrette added a hint of sour, the tomatoes some sweetness, the bread balanced the two, and the artichoke tender. The sourdough bread (house bread) was great to sop up the remainder on the plate.
My guests ordered the Fusilli Con Melanzane E Scamorza (corkscrew pasta, smoked mozzarella, eggplant, tomato sauce) and the Costoletta D'agnello Al Vino Rosso (grilled lamb rack with red wine, truffle reduction). Not a single fusilli was left on the pasta plate and the only reminent of the lamb dish was a lime wedge.
I ordered the Bistecca Alla Fiorentina (a glorious cut of rib-eye steak grilled over mesquite charcoal, served with Tuscan beans). I had to get the rib-eye steak....the menu bosts of it's glory...and glorious it was. The dish was $32, which is higher than my usual spending, but i was looking to indulge myself for the new year. The thick slab was well seasoned, tender, and juicy. I didn't need any additional dipping sauce (ie A-1). It tasted great alone. The dish came with green beans , potatoes, and a roasted tomato. I was stuffed and i still had half the slab to bring home.
The patio is illuminated with string and candle lights. Decorated with foliage above and around the tables. Heaters are placed beside each table for those chilly nights. Seating outside is very romantic and intimate.
Pasta dishes run about $15 and meat dishes (other than the rib eye steak) run around $25.
Delicious food. We made reservations (although it was nearly empty because of the holiday). It's a good place to bring dates and special night out with friends. I probably wouldn't go here on the regular because it would not only strain my wallet, but i hear it gets quite busy.

Two words: Secret menu. OK - it's not really a secret unless it's your first time here. We recommend the 2lb rib eye with the bone in. It's not on the regular menu.
Major celebrity sightings and it appears to be a regular place for the known and soon to be known alike.
Couple of things: the service was spotty. And there seems to an issue with the chairs. Some are comfortable garden lounge chairs. And some are the kitchen table chairs where you have to sit for your time outs. Finally, one occupant at a time for the bathroom?!? Things can get a little tense.

Rule number 1:
Never make someone with low blood sugar wait for his food because, you know, you're going to get it.
Rule number 2:
Never ever make a Yelper with low blood sugar wait for his food because you're going to get it up your ass.
The latter applies to me so let's start the bitching, shall we?
MAITRE'D:
My friends and I arrived 10 minutes early for our 830pm dinner reservation and went up the pregnant maitre'd' and told her to add an extra person to the 7 we have. She 'politely', in quotation mark, said that she'll see what she can do.
Yo bitch, don't you know that restaurant table setting is always in fucking even numbers unless it's what the reservation is. Look at your damn restaurant, do you see a table set for 3, 5 or 7! So how hard is it really to add 1 more setting to our original 7?
SERVICE:
By far, one of the worst service. And I know bad service, I'm Asian!
We got seated 30 minutes late still missing that extra table setting.
Anyhoo, telling your guests that the kitchen 'lost', in quotation mark, their order ticket should be done 30-45 minutes and NOT two hours into service, you know?
Plus, don't really care if you're the only person serving the entire patio. It's your job. So what if your manager gave us a free bottle of wine for making us wait, a sincere apology would have been okay.
And, please, don't make me go up the waiter station again to ask for more bread!
FOOD:
The food is okay at most really. It's not peed-in-my-pants good, nor I'm-going-to-puke bad. In short, it's nothing memorable.
ETC:
I don't really care for the patio much. This is LA, a million other restaurants have patio.
And if I'm you're going to put up those newspaper over the urinal while I take care of business, put up something I can read and understand. An Italian newspaper is a nice touch, but who cares really? Apparently, I do.
So, this place gets the single star it deserves.

Very pleasant patio, day or evening. But more importantly, this is our favorite Italian restaurant in LA. There are a lot of 2nd place winners, but this is our 1st: they consistly serve great food. We always order the pastas as we usually dislike the Italian carne preparations, even though Pane Vino has impressed us on this front in the past. My only complaint would be the hostess has never displayed warmth.
It was a business lunch.
I don't think I would have gone otherwise but we were looking for a place half way between Hollywood and Century City. I use to work next to PEV in Santa Barbara and they would bring over food to us sometimes. It left a good impression.
As for this location, it's not bad. Ambiance is nice. For lunch, it's really mellow. Quiet and yet vibrant. Service was adequate if not stellar. Parking was easy, on the street.
Food. What I had was delicious. It was lobster risotto. I'm not usually one who orders risotto so I'm not sure what drove me to order it. T he lobster was perfect and they were generous with the amount. You know how sucky it is to order lobster "anything" and you get just a spoonful of the lobster. Not cool. PEV was heavy handed with the lobster and I have to give them kudos for that. My client had the pounded chicken with arugala and shaved parmesan. Looked pretty darn good.
It's nice they have a patio for dining al fresco. Although with a client...that's not so romantic
An open letter to restaurant owners. I know that thinking like a woman doesn't come naturally to most of you, being mostly men. And that's not to make some sort of angry political statement, I'm just stating a fact. However, gender aside, there's something that's often overlooked when restaurants are designed that seems like a no-brainer to me. I bet you think I'm going to start griping about bathrooms. Well, you'd be wrong. I'm not going to talk about the issue of the insufficient quantity of women's restroom stalls in many bars and restaurants, even though it's another huge pet peeve of mine.
Here's the thing. Women carry handbags. When us women go into a restaurant we bring our handbags with us. When we sit down, where do we put them? If there's enough room, we can put them on an extra chair or on the table. However, a lot of restaurants have tables that are so small you can barely fit your plates on them. In that case, you hang your handbag over the back of you chair. This requires a chair with straight across back, or a notch somewhere at the top. Chairs with sloped backs are no good because you can't anchor the handles of your purse anywhere.
What can you do in this case? I don't care if you bought your bag at Neiman's or Target, no girl wants to put their bag on the floor to get greasy and crumby, and covered in whatever was stuck to the bottoms of the last person's shoes.
This leaves only one option - hold the bag on your lap, making sure to keep you knees pressed together so that it doesn't fall down. Nice way to spend a night out, huh? Reach for an appetizer, adjust your bag. Pour your friend a glass of wine, adjust your bag. Tell your funny story from work while keeping one hand on the bag so that it doesn't fall down as you perform an impression of your boss trying to work the fax machine. Go ahead, try it one night. Then go out and get some chairs that a woman can hang her purse on.
Aside from that, this place is excellent. Great food, great service, amazing courtyard, and Courtney Cox was sitting at the next table.

Last weekend 11 family members rolled into LA for my graduation. It was my pleasure to take them to dinner afterward and Pane E Vino ended up being an excellent choice. We had a prix fix menu for $33 a person that included salads, antipasto, pizza, entrees (salmon, roast chicken or lasagna), dessert (choice of apple tart or flourless chocolate cake), coffee and ice tea. I think that is a really great deal. Everyone raved about the food and atmosphere. As a food aficionado, it wasn't the best food I have ever had, but it was truly delicious. The patio was bustling and adorable and with all the white lights glistening it made for great photos. I am sorry to read that others have had a negative experience with group dining at Pane E Vino. Honestly it is probably my first choice for affordable group dining in Los Angeles.

The last time I ate at Pane e Vino, I had this lovely linguine with pesto sauce. I remember the pesto sauce fondly. I truly enjoyed the savory meal, along with their bread.
Pane is a trendy upscale eatery which creates fine Italian dishes. I enjoy this restaurant. The dining experience is enjoyable. Big fan of this place 'cause of the patio out back. Most all of the other reviews are spot on. It's not cheap, but everyone can find something on the menu they'll like. Their bistecca alla fiorentina is enough for two and actually reminds me of Tuscany. Nice.

Great patio. The food is very good. And the rib eye steak was surprisingly large. Steak lover's size, it's a monster. Actually it's more like a Del Monico, since the rib bone is on. The lamb chop is very tasty, too. Drinks were well made, and Phillip is an excellent waiter.
The atmospere can't be beat. It's a little hard to find - there's no huge sign or anything and you'd drive right by it if you didn't know it was there.
Dressy attire is better, but this is LA so casual is OK too.
The valet is only $5, which is good for LA.
They have a decent wine list - not spectacular, but certainy acceptable. The staff is familiar with the list and makes good recommendations.
It tends to get busier after 8pm.
They also serve sausage and peppers. So many trendy places in LA frown on proper old-school Italian fare like sausage and peppers that it's worth noting. This makes an east-coast transplant like me feel good.
They've been around for about 15 years, which is a long time in LA. There's a reason for that - Definitely worth another visit.

It is one of the prettier Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. It's more of a romantic place...not really much of a place to go with friends or family but with your bf or gf. I have never had a bad meal here. Consistent great Italian food.. great waitstaff, and impeccable meat and pasta. The cheese foccacia ain't too shabby either. One of my favorite places because of the outside patio which is beautiful during the summer days and especially at night when the lights make the place really romantic. They could prob do a better wine list, but all in all, definitely one of my favorite regular places to have some Italian.
FULL DISCLOSURE - I am taking over the website of this restaurant. So expect a new design come October 2007.
Pane e Vino is one of those restaurants that's been around for a long time with a steady clientele. Yet many locals in town have never heard of it.
The place is a model of consistency. Chef has been here for over a decade and there isn't much turnover. Interior and Exteriors are gorgeous and everything is fresh.
When I came here recently for lunch, the patio outside was packed while the inside was dead by comparison. Seems to be the same case at night. When seated, we were given a choice of either sparkling or tap water and served two different kinds of bread: Italian and Brick Oven. Stick with the Brick Oven since the Italian is nothing special you haven't had before. The Foccacia Flatbread with Mozzerella appetizer was very tasty with a great crust. It came with a dipping sauce filled with large pieces of garlic. Got to love the garlic! My main course, which in laymen's terms was a Lobster Ravioli, which was very tasty and tender although I personally would've liked to have seen a larger serving. Dessert for me was one of their seasonal specialties, a Pumpkin Mascarpone Cheesecake with three cherries (just three?) and whipped creme so good it could've been a dessert in of itself. The dessert was full of pumpkin flavor and while the cake wasn't as dense as I would have liked, I know Italian cakes are normally like this. Prices are high. Even for lunch. I thought the salad prices were definitely a bit too steep which is why I avoided having one. Service for the most part was good, but it took a long time (and a little begging) to get my first Iced Tea although afterwards the refills came very quickly. Overall a real good italian establishment that a lot more people in LA need to know about.

Me and the Canadian went here for dinner last night. We both ordered from their list of specials for last night, so they're not always on the menu but they were sooo good! I had tortellini stuffed with cheese in a creamy, white wine and truffle sauce. Yum! The Canadian had bass ("I caught you a delicious bass") also cooked in a wine sauce and came with spinach and potatoes. We both agreed my meal was better, but both were good. We also had glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon that were delicious as well.
The service was good. I was originally placed at a table next to the noisy bar and was not happy. When the Canadian arrived he got us a better table near the front. The patio area looked nice, but I'm always cold at night even in the summer. There is always someone walking around making sure your waters are filled and ready to answer questions. I'll definitely be back.
I've been going to this fine establishment since the day it opened sometime in the early 90's. Great for couples, large groups and the like. Sit outside for maximum pleasure and comfort (inside can be very loud and hot on hot nights because of the open rotisserie). God! This is one of the few, reliable, quality Italian joints in the entire Westside. Make a reser, order absolutely anything (my favs are ALWAYS, Penne Al'Arrabiata, Cervietta con Polenta, or keep it simple with the 1/2 roasted chicken). All devine, simple, yet wonderful! Noise can be loud on weekends, try Thursday or Sunday (only amateurs go out on weekends in LA -- TOO BUSY!). Happy eating!

TERRIBLE SERVICE (possible discrimination), FOOD MEDIOCRE!
THIS RESTAURANT IS TERRIBLE! We were treated like second-class citizens by the staff (busboys, servers, hosts, manager) & had to ask 4 times to get water. This doesn't count the number of times we asked for more menus for our party of 20, refill on bread, or the fact that they DIDN'T bring out everybody's entrees at the same time! We had to wait an extra 10-15 minutes & ask our waitress 2x to get the last 2 remaining entrees for our party of 20. I would've accepted the bad service if apologies were given by the staff, but the attitude & nonchalantness of their service was a shock to our group. Maybe the staff was banking on our guaranteed 17% gratuity (due to large parties), that they felt like they could treat us like 2nd class citizens. The service or promise of better service did not even improve when we approached the manager - he basically blew us off with a handwave. It makes me wonder if this place DISCRIMINATED against our table because of: (1) age - we look like we're 20-25 years old when we're all 25+, (2) we are mostly a minority group amongst the shi-shi, rich, middle-aged, WHITE Beverly Hills patrons. Albeit, I think I am quite rational & accepting of busy Saturday nights, but I expect some common courtesy. We had made reservations early on in the week for a large party, so we had prime seating in the front of the restaurant, so I don't understand the lack of service or attitude that confronted us. FOOD WAS MEDIOCRE AND WASN'T WORTH THE BAD SERVICE, THE LACK OF RESPECT OR THE 17% GRATUITY. terrible terrible terrible.

I tried his place on a whim, a hope, and good citysearch.com (is that a dirty word around here?) review and was not disappointed.
I'm writing this review quite ex post facto (about 3 years ex post facto), but the fact that i remember anything at all should be considered a testament to great time that I had there. I had set up a dinner date with my girlfriend, one of our first dates in fact, so impressions and getting the mood just right were very important to me. I arranged for a seat on the patio an our table was just great. At the time, the patio was decorated with small lights strewn about the trees and hedges, and along with the table candles, my girlfriend and I had a good time just taking it all in.
There was a good bit of chatter on the patio, but it was nothing intrusive, and actually went a long to making the place feel alive and personal, while at the same time allowing us a great, romantic meal. Speaking of the food, I still remember what I had -- It was the rack of lamb which they served in, at the time, a red wine reduction. It's a dish that is quite common, and that i've had quite a few times, and without getting too Food Network, it was good and still stands out in my mind. Unfortunately, I don't remember too much about the wine list or dessert, but what was served to us was served by a professional, friendly wait staff. My girlfriend and I also appreciated it when the owner came by and introduced himself and asked how the meal was going. Overall, a wonderful experience, and a good place to show a date that you know your way around town and can show her a very nice time.
From what I remember, the valet was actually out back, and as such, my girlfriend and I actually entered through the rear entrance when we showed up for our reservation. No big deal though, we just found the maitre 'd and we were seated without fuss.
Good times, good food, good service. Can't go wrong with this place.
Pane e Vino is the place where my family and friends always come to when there is something to celebrate, or commemorate because the atmosphere is quiet and lovely and the food is definitely a highlight. I suggest getting a reservation for the garden room, where the charm lies- green foliage all around, Romanesque statuary places around, the sounds of a calm waterfall, roomy tables and chairs spread around an enclosed patio, garlands of twinkling lights glimmer above, a private enclave of dining and cameraderie has been created a la Il Cielo- but there is also a dark and equally romantic if not a bit more family friendly dining room inside, and also a bar. The food itself is perfect- updated western Italian food that is not too heavy, and the menu has unexpected touches that you will have not seen before as well as old pleasers to satisfy even picky eaters. I swear by the mushroom risotto cake to start, which comes wth zesty green as well and a pile of steaming gourmet mushrooms on top, and is sized like an entree but is still light enough to still be hungry for a main course, and the Bucatini al Amatriciana, hollow tube pasta in a spicy tomato sauce complete with cooked proscuitto- simply to die for. The wine is also amazing, and I am sure the desserts are too, even though I don't think I have ever had room to try them, as of yet. The service can be a little snobby, so be sure to call ahead for reservations, and sometimes a little slow, so expect that. Some servers though are simply lovely and very attentive. Prices are reasonable for the ambiance and food, and area. You will enjoy this high class dining experience at Pane E Vino!
