i will share this secret with other south bay yelpers:  this restaurant is very good. you get a lot of food for your money with the lunch specials. the head chef was schooled in a culinary institute in China and apprenticed in a busy Chinese restaurant in LA before starting this restaurant. bottom line, he knows how to cook Chinese food. too bad he is restricted to Americanized Chinese food for the majority of the clientel :(

he gets to show off his other side when we come here and make a special order not from the printed menu sheet.

I'd probably say closer to a 3.5 or 3.75, but the price bumps it up.

My wife and I wanted to check out some place new this weekend, but did not want to go very far from our Chula-juana home.  Panda Palace it is.  It seemed kind of odd to my wife and I to go to National City and not be eating Filipino food, but that's how it was.

We enter the place and we see a good mix of people.  We sit down and give the menu a quick lookover.  Lunch specials ranging from $4.50-$6?  Yeah, that's pretty hot.  Looking at the rest of the menu, it looked like they had some other good options, including family style feasts, that probably would have been too much for just my wife and I.  I ended up getting the shrimp with lobster sauce, and my wife got the kung pao with chicken.

The good- cheap, good lunch, that included soup and egg roll.  Yeah, I can see why there were other Filipinos there

The bad- nothing really bad per se.  I wish I knew how to order "off" the menu, but I just don't have that ability.  Maybe when my friend from NY visits I can try the real deal stuff.

Overall- Service was fast and friendly, food was good and cheap, with nice sized portions.  Yeah, maybe we'll come back with family and do the family style dining and get the full range of the cooking.

The salted pepper porkchops are good.

An alternative for Royal Mandarin.

Next to lollicup, and 5 for 10.

I'm surprised I'm the first to review this place.  I've been going here off and on for years.  You may think it's an average restuarant, but I give it 4 stars because the food is good, the service has been good, and the price is excellent.  If you want decent food for your money, go here.  Try the honey walnut shrimp.
