This is our Sunday morning breakfast spot. I love it because the owners are from the area and they make it a very great atmosphere. It is a true local hangout. If you ever in Sur gate and are craving local, home cooked food, come on down to Pancake Corner!

The food was ok, nothing I would go out of my way for. The Pancakes are pretty good, but no different than Ihop, my group had the bacon, O'brian fries, eggs, pancakes, and a waffle (burnt). The consensus is the food was blah...no seasonings.
The service was just ok, there was only one waitress working till about 9:30 or so. We arrived to the location at 8:30 am, needless to say about half the time we were there we were on our own, but the other half of the Time was nice enough. -

A little salt goes a long way!
Monday morning last day of the 3day weekend and I don't feel like making breakfast. So I give The Pancake Corner a try, wrong choice. Ordered an omelet and hashbrowns, eggs over cooked, they used sandwich cheese just like the ones where you peel off the wrapper. Hashbrowns not a lick of salt, man they were bland. The table salsa they give you well... It's not good, looks like they use three different types of chiles that don't compliment each other. That just end up giving it a bad after taste.
I do like how the diner looks, it has a old style feel to it. Hope they get the problems with the food fixed. My pet peeve, the food pictures in the window. Take them down let some nature light in. Showing pictures of the food all over the place makes it took like a fast food joint.
Some of the best dinners/Cafes I go to don't have a single picture of there food anywhere in the restaurant. -

I really wanted to like this place because the waitresses and staff are so incredibly nice, and for the fact that they also have a coffee counter that reminds me of the 1950s, however, the food doesn't warrant more than two stars, and I want to be consistent on how I rate restaurants on Yelp.
Perhaps I should have ordered the pancakes, but instead I got the breakfast burrito with cheese. It's impressive what you get - a giant burrito plus has browns on the side, but the quality just isn't there. The hash browns taste as though they were purchased en mass frozen, then heated, and the meat in the burrito was of poor quality, especially the bacon. The orange juice tastes like a watered down frozen juice from concentrate. For such cute mom and pop place, I really wish they used better ingredients in their food. -

Went their yesterday morning with my boyfriend expecting a good breakfast with great pancakes... Sorry to report that it was horrible! The breakfast and sadly to say that the pancakes were also badd! The Pancake Corner trust me stay away!! Very bland no taste at all!! Lived in the area for five years and that was my 1st and last time there... By the way the star was for the service...very nice waitresses but PLEASE FIRE THE COOK!!!!

This place is super delicious! Not only is the food homemade but the service and atmosphere is too. I love to support small family run businesses and this is definitely that. The lunch is great! Most dishes are not super healthy because they do use butter and oil but simply ask them not to and they won't. They have a cute little counter area so it feels like your in an old school breakfast diner

This place is good, no doubt about it, while the family has to have the pancakes I gotta have their menudo on the weekends, I highly recommend this place.. Too bad it's closes kinda early.

I can't believe that I lived in South Gate for a whole month before I decided to try this hidden gem!! This is now up there for favorite breakfast joints for me. Been here a couple times now and each time it just gets better. It's a little old fashioned spot that I would never had given it a second glance had I driven past it. Of course...you know me...the name got me haha. Love pancakes!
Have now tried the regular pancakes and the chocolate chip ones. The regular ones were very light and fluffy, buttery and full of flavor. They were even heavenly a couple days after as leftovers ;). I wasn't the biggest fan of the chocolate chip ones...I can imagine only a true sweets person would appreciate them more than I would. Had too much chips for my taste. The french toast was excellent too. They do not waste ingredients here!
My friends have tried the steak and eggs and both have raved about them. They say it's a pretty good cut of steak and not bland at all which is great. Wasn't really a fan of their bisquits and gravy on the spot but it actually became flavorfull a few days later as a snack lol. Sometimes you gotta age things to improve the tastes I guess haha.
Everything is priced just right so no complaints there. Now I can't wait for my next free Saturday to go back to this spot! I see other items on their menu that have my name on it :)Listed in: My favorite breakfast Joints

I've been here a couple of times for breakfast. It is a mom's and pop's little dinner. Family owned and they have a clientele that has been coming to for many years. Funny how once can get the vive that one is having a meal in a dinner off the road/HWY.
I have tried their Chilaquiles which are quite spicy, I like! pair it with over-medium eggs and now that's a breakfast of champs! Their french toast is prrrreety good too! My sister loves this place for their blueberry pancakes, which I have tried and its good! My mom usually orders their Menudo and I can only guess that she likes it since she orders it time after time. The waitress/waiter is always very prompt at refilling my coffee cup, which is basically my number one demand when eating breakfast out.
Sad that they close so early at around 2-3pm everyday... don't they know people can have cravings and eat pancakes at all hours of the day??Listed in: Morning sunshine: it's…

This place is A-OK! I've been coming here since it was Manny's Pancake House back in the 90s.
They offer a full breakfast and lunch menu, not just pancakes. But I go for the pancakes. The offer a variety of pancakes: apple, banana, blueberry, etc. The blueberry pancakes have nice large blueberries mixed right into the batter. The bacon is served crispy--they'll ask how you'd like it!
I'll be honest the pancakes themselves are not as good as Norm's or the Yorkshire Grill, or the California Grill. But it's close to home and it's still good nonetheless.
They serve you this terrible margarine-like spread--ask for another type of butter (and they'll give it to you).
The coffee is strong but tasty. The decor is what it is, a nice, very clean diner. The service is outstanding and friendly. The place has been there for DECADES! Well, worth a visit! -

The French Toast Combo was good. The combo included two eggs and your choice of two sausages or bacon with your french toast. The combo along with orange juice that I ordered came down to about $7 - very affordable.
And for those of us watching our weight - this family owned business serves large portions so YOU decide if you eat everything or take half with you home. Also, I do advise you get here early on weekends since it tends to get busy and I suggest you come here when you feel like going to IHOP but are low on cash and still want quality food. -

Just call me the instant you get the cravings for pancakes.
THE FOOD:
Without any doubt, I say it is the least expensive stack of pancakes you'll find in the area. For the price, you are not going to find a better spot. The menu is simple and pretty "basic", but that's what you're going to get in a small place. The buttermilk pancakes have a hefty, velvet cake feel to them and the waffles my niece ate had a delicious crunch. I had a classic, chorizo con huevos and the portion was very generous. You know what, could these guys serve THE BEST hash browns I have ever had? There was a young couple with a toddler sitting at the booth next to us and even the little one seemed to be enjoying the meal. Two hungry teenagers and myself (I am not a small slice) went for breakfast and for about $22, including coffee and drinks, I say it was a good, good meal. South Gate is a small, hardworking town; so I'm sure that the locals and regulars appreciate that good tasting, honest meals are prepared and served with a very, very reasonable price tag.
THE SERVICE:
Prompt. Very polite. If anything, maybe these women are on the quiet side.
There's only 2 waitresses, but this is a small place; so 2 is probably plenty.
THE PLACE:
I had not been here in a while so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant has had a face lift and managed to keep the diner feel to it. There's a counter that sits about 10 people. The A.C. (always important) is kept at a very pleasant level. It is very clean. Even the parking lot got an upgrade.
THE RATING:
Four stars because I would like to see a bit better presentation on the pancakes (It is sold as a pancake house...). THE PANCAKES ARE GOOD, but the presentation is a bit bland. I mean, our eyes love great looking dishes, don't they? Try this place; especially if you are looking for a great meal without breaking the bank. I'm a big fan of out-of-the-way small businesses; so I really enjoyed this place. -JAC! -

I'm here at the pancake corner right now! Having breakfast alone which is a first for me, but I decided today that I would give it a try. I pass by pancake corner all the time. It usually looks closed and I always say I'm gonna try it for breakfast. Well it's lunch time but I'm gonna try the breakfast anyways. I ordered the breakfast sampler with banana pancakes.
Ok I've finished my breakfast for lunch and I must say that It was great! They gave me fresh salsa & pico de gallo made with fresh tomato, onion & jalapeno :) They gave me a big portion of hash browns, the bacon was really good, nice thick pieces, and I don't usually eat sausage, but I tried it and it was really good!
I always save my pancakes for last. I've made banana pancakes before and let me tell you, these ones here were way way better than mine! The staff was really friendly, I would definitely come back again :) Next time I might try the blueberry pancakes, they looked good too :) -

I'm not sure why people have rated this restaurant so high. Pancake Corner is a small mom & pop's restaurant. The food was definitely not great.
The eggs were oily and the yolk was an off-white color, and I'm assuming they just had very poor quality eggs. The Country Fried Steak was also oily and the meat was about 25% fat. My friend ordered a waffle, which tasted like greasy steak. It seemed like the food had remnance of food cooked from 20 years ago because the grill wasn't cleaned for 20 years.
A couple good things: the waitress was very friendly and very good with service & most of the people who were there eating breakfast there seemed like regulars, so I don't worry that they'll lose business.
The photo thats posted of the interior is not accurate either. They've renovated for the worse.
Summary: Go there if you like greasy food. -

It's the bomb Montes. We should go hang at this place. Small on prices, seating and service when busy but BIG on flavor, enough variety and just down right delicious. Try the breakfast burrito with everything inside.

It's a diner that looks like it can be found on old Route 66 but it's right next to a Jack in the Box in South Gate. The food is good ol' american breakfast with good portions. I like going and supporting a non-chain, clean restaurant that has wonderful service with good, hot coffee. A thumbs up when you wake up lazy on a weekend and just feel like a simple well done breakfast with all the fixings.

Been living in a South Gate a long time, but for whatever reason, never bothered to check out this spot. Well now I know why, hours of operation are 7am-3pm, Mon thru Sun.
Well, this Sunday, I happen to take the parents to go eat in the morning. I had the breaded steak and eggs, which came with a side of tomatoe, and either bread or pancakes, and since I was at the "Pancake Corner", had to do there pancakes. All in all, the food was very good. My pops had the steak and eggs with came with nice size steak, not thick, but thin, with 2 eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. I think that was most expensive thing on the menu, almost gettting to ten bucks. My dad said it was the best breakfast he's had in a while. Steak was really good. My mom just had the breakfast special, which came with eggs, sausage and hashbrowns.
Coffee was really good! Service was good as well. Two stars off, cause the restroom was broken, and I guess usually Sunday mornings, there are bikers that converge at this locale, and it feels like the waitresses and owner, tend to them before us regular folk.
Otherwise, good food fare. -

Just got back from a chill breakfast from this place on my day off. I passed the place a while ago on a rainy saturday morning and saw it full of people. The outside looks like an old school coffee shop and its very small and cozy inside. My girl and I were the only customers there since it was a weekday before the lunch hour and just after breakfast. I ordered the banana pancakes with bacon and she the french toast combo with egss, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and hash browns. Every dish comes with your choice of toast or pancakes and the prices were very reasonable! You can get a breakfast combo for as little as $3.99. My pancakes were good and every bite had banana slices, also the oj was fresh. Overall its a very cute spot with good service for breakfast and cheap. While it wasnt the greatest breakfast I ever had it was good and worth coming back for. I loved that the food was not too greasy and Id like to try some of the lunch items. They had some mexican food items, pork chops, and sandwiches. Other pancakes I saw on the menu were strawberry, blueberry, buttermilk, and apple.
*fyi, there is $10 minimum on credit or atm cards and $1.00 charge so might be best to take cash unless you dont mind the charge
