Here is the thing with Dr. Fenton. She was my obgyn through my entire pregnancy. During it, I really appreciated her knowledge and wit. She also didn't waste any time talking about unnecessary things. If I had a question, she answered it but didn't share information that she didn't need to. I loved this because I would go to my appointments during my lunch break from work and it was so quick that I never had to worry about being late. Her office staff was so sweet. The nurses, front desk, and financial ladies were always making me laugh.
However, during my labor, I was so upset with her, that I don't think I will ever go back to her for ob stuff. She had me induced at 1 am at Cedars. I think she did this because she thought I would have the baby by 5 pm the next day. My son was not ready to come out. He had barely dropped. After being in labor for a full 24 hours (she came in about 4 times... which I didn't have a problem with, nothing really exciting was going on) it was finally ready for push time and she gave me absolutely NO direction. After about 30 minutes, I screamed for a C-section. Instead of just saying OK, she told me that I had just wasted 25 hours. Anyway, got the C-section (she did do an awesome job on it) and my baby was healthy and happy when he came out. But, I just wish it had gone a little smoother and I had a little more guidance from her.
In conclusion, I think she is an awesome gyno. Totally knowledgeable, witty, etc. But, I would not recommend her as an OB. Maybe she was just having a bad day when I was in labor, but I don't know if I would risk it again.
I really like Dr. Fenton, and I'm picky. I have switched OB/GYNs 3 times now. First I had someone who yelled at me when I had a concern with one of my breasts. Second doc was someone so cold, she seemed to have a personality disorder. Third doc, I was always treated by the nurse practitioner, not the doctor.
So seeing Dr. Fenton has been a relief. I inevitably go in with a list of questions and she always has very current information packed into her answers. I never wait long, and she spends as much time with me as I need.
Esther, the secretary, encourages phone calls (I am pregnant and have lots of questions!). Marina and Lorena are extremely sweet support staff.
Dr. Fenton has a NYer's dry wit. She's not condescending, she's straightforward. At times, I have asked her repeat questions, and sure, sometimes she sounds like "you've already asked me this...." But I take it as supportive - she's telling me to chill. It works for me. Good luck everyone!
I've seen Dr. Fenton twice, during which the following happened:
1) She asked exactly zero questions about my sexual health history during the inital consult. She's an OB/GYN!
2) When I went in for a test, she went on and on (and on and on and on) about her frustrations with insurance companies, rather than... oh... I dunno...advising me on the potentially VERY serious condition I was being tested for. (The test turned out fine, but still!)
3) When I called her with a concern regarding my test, she answered the phone with "Didn't we already talk about this?" - no "Hello" or inkling of compassion.
4) Another patient asked Dr. Fenton a question at the front desk. Dr. Fenton "replied" by making hula-like movements and closed the door of her office. I'm not kidding.
5) The nurse was always nice, but WOW does that receptionist seem unhappy!!!!
Bottom line - there ARE doctors out there that are both caring and extremely talented. Don't settle when it comes to your health.
Nah. Go elsewhere. She seems harried and does not make an effort to get to know her patients. A scheduling error put me on her roster instead of Dr. Bernstein's (with whom she shares an office; Dr. Bernstein is there on Tuesdays and Thursdays) but even though I had an appointment, she treated me like she had MUCH better things to do than my check-up. Very cold and attitudinal. She talked to me like I was a 12-year-old and not the 29-year-old I actually am.
The front desk was fine, and if you must come here, be advised that they only accept limited types of insurance.
For starters, the receptionist was unnecessarily rude about the fact that I'd forgotten my insurance card and the office was sort of seedy but I can get over it if I like a doctor. Unfortunately, Dr. Fenton did not live up to expectations. I had a medical concern and she talked to me like I was a child and literally didn't even seem to believe my complaints. At one point she was so condescending I almost burst into tears and walked out of the office altogether. The exam did not seem at all thorough compared to past gynecologists and once I left the appointment I realized that she had never even bothered to ask if I was on any medications, nor did a nurse weigh me -- you know, normal stuff that is supposed to go on during a checkup. She does have a touch of the cool tough chick thing that the other yelper mentioned and, because I like cool tough chicks, I was optimistic about her. But for some reason, I just got the tough side and it came off as uncaring, cursory care. She gets two stars because it's easy to get an appointment (go figure...) and I have a feeling that she probably really does care about her practice and patients on some level but we were not a good match and I **definitely** plan to find a new doctor.
