I give the service four stars, the food four stars and the decor 2.5, which was about as inspiring as any hotel lobby, but not tasteless ala Buca di Beppo. I enjoyed my prosciutto pizza and Campari and soda and the quotes that the server brought at the end of our meal, although it was clear that one was intended for myself and the other for my guy friend if we are to play into the idea that men will never understand what women want and women are the purveyors of successful kissing techniques. Anyway, if I were back in Minneapolis, I would probably go elsewhere, but as far as late evening Italian dining I was presently surprised by the quality of food and service.

I haven't been to Palamino in a couple of years.  I wound up here not by choice of my own but by who I was with. Having worked in Minneapolis five years ago,  this restaurant was tiring out back then. But since he picked it and was quite excited about it what was I to say?

The same decor from five years ago welcomed us.

The menu had some changes...with little dishes to share to some unique take on salads and a wide variety of pasta, fish, beef and chicken.

Taking a peek at the wine menu my friend asked if the waiter had any recommendations.

He didn't.

So we had to pick our own wine....Byron, Pinor Noir. YUM!

We wound up attempting to ask the waiter for additional recommendations from the dinner menu but to no avail. Thankfully, we faired well on our own with a cheese fondue, braised shortribs and I had the shrimp scampi. Although the scampi forced me to pop breath mints all night since it was doused in garlic!

The waiter did treat us to chocolate cake and put a cute little candle on it in the shape of a heart.  Too bad I wasn't feeling it with the guy I was with!

All in all it was a nice experience. Not great but okay.

As you can tell from the other reviews, this is a great place.  I would give it four stars...if not for a little gem I discovered this past summer.  Unbelievable really.  Even though this place offers great wine selection, it's also...(drum roll)...no corkage fee BYO!  And coming from Chicago, where BYOs are everywhere, this is great news.  Five stars for the classiest BYO in Minneapolis!

I was in Minneapolis for a week for work and friends pointed me towards Palomino. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the great evening deals that Palomino offers. After 10pm all the appetizers on the menu are dropped to half price. And all of their Pizza's a dropped to $5. You can get their house wines and a couple of beers on draft, or one of two mixed drinks for $3. It's a great deal but at times the service can be a little slow. It makes sense, you get what you pay for. But nonetheless, the food is good, the atmosphere is nice and relaxed, and the prices are great. If its after 10pm and you haven't been to Palomino you've got to go, at least to check it out.

Food - 4, good food I had 3 of the pizza's and enjoyed them all. I especially liked the prosciutto and roma tomato and the sausage and mushroom.

Service - 3, it was a little slow in the evenings when the restaurant was full.

Atmosphere - 5, a variety of places to sit in the dinning room with the low leather chairs, on the balcony at the outside of the restaurant, or at the bar.

Price - 5, great prices.

Ahhh the "Horse"  its like a trusted old friend.

Fun big bar, never riduculously crowded....good food.   The only problem is that Capital Grille and the siren call of Stags Leap Zin is soooo close.  Can you hear the deer calling..oh wait thats a horse...nevermind.

Grab a scotch on the rocks, and rock back and forth in your lounge chair.  Sweet sweet upholstered lowback lounge chairs...how great you are for relaxing and putting out the vibe.

Anyways I digress....Just head down and check out "The Horse"

This is a great multi-city restaurant (Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, Honolulu, and a few other places) that serves awesome steaks, fish, rotiserreie chicken and appetizers.   However, the best part about Palomino is the deserts.  It is one of those places that  really does it all.

Insiders note: need to seal a hot date -- nothings better than the molten chocolate cake!

This is another great place to lunch if you are downtown.  They have the best bread with sundried tomato butter and the chopped salad is very yummy.  The dinners are pretty reasonable and the service is good too!

Palomino is a (perhaps not-so) hidden gem.  Stellar baked pastas...good food that leaves you full for days.  Reasonable price for the service and food, unlike other overrated restaurants in this area.

Great restaurant in downtown Minneapolis!  Very open and spacious.  Attentive service.  Had the lamb shank, and pear bread pudding for dessert.  I would highly recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner.  (Has validated parking also.)
