OMG if you come to my home town of little Carpinteria you must go here!

A local favorite for years!  I have been coming here since I was old enough to walk, and for the most part it has stayed exactly the same.

Steak and seafood, but the best part.... You do it all yourself!  According to my Dad there there are spots on the grill that cook faster and hotter than others, he has it down to a science.

My favorite part is the awesome salad bar and bread-salsa-bean bar!!!  OMG forget your Atkins diet when you go to this place, they're butter homemade croutons are worth putting on 5lbs for!

Usually during the weekends there is some local band playing loudly and the Bar has the stiffest drinks in the entire city, ask for the Purple Cadillac... My fave here!

Good for groups, parties, birthdays ... I love that it used to be a hotel back in the day!

The Palms one of the very few nightlife places in Carpinteria. When I say few, I mean one of two. That means if your coming here to eat dinner, it's better to come earlier, rather than later unless you plan to stay.

the Plams offers a do-it-yourself kind of meal. You choose your own raw meat, they bring it to the table, and you cook it on the grill. The salad bar is pretty bleak. The break and chili are okay. Most people come for the nolstagia, rather than for the food.

What a fun place!  This is one of those times I wish I could give 1/2 stars.  Four stars won out over three because of the reasonable prices.  The only vegetarian option here is the salad bar (which is severely lacking in variety), but considering it was only $6.25 and it was all-you-can-eat AND it included baked potatoes, salsa, bread, and chili (w/o meat!) I was happy and full.  Iced teas were only $1.75 which is better than the $2.50-3.00 we've been paying other places.  The grill is a bit small, and it was pretty busy when we were there, so you may have to wait in line a couple minutes to fire up your carnivorous treats.  The decor is sort of "70's Western Dive Bar", but a fun atmosphere.  Our host and server were pleasant and attentive.  We'll definitely go back again.

This place was recommended by the hotel staff at BW. Usually the locals know where the best places are to eat and she was right. I wasn't expecting much because it didn't look all that great from the outside, but you can't judge a book by its' cover.  My co-worker and I were really hungry and ordered some hardy dishes.  He ordered the kabobs and I ordered the ribeye steak.  The big surprised came when the waitress brought out the raw meat for us too cook.  I was actually happy with the fact that I had to cook the meat myself.  I went to the grill and cooked it to my liking, medium rare.  All done in about 10 minutes.  The meat was decent, but not as good as some higher end places I've gone to or the meat at Costco. The Palm also offered unlimited salad, bake potatoes and beans.  All were pretty good, but the beans were really good. I went back for three helpings.  Overall, this place was bang for your buck.

Ok, the main dish is the best part about the dinner in my opinion! The salad is so so, the beans don't taste that fresh, and the bread is just bland!! However, the scallops and coconut battered shrimp are delicious! It's definitely fun to be able to cook your own meat and they have all kinds of different seasonings for you to choose from. Also, you can't beat their price on fresh CRAB!! My boyfriend usually gets 1 or 2 lbs, depending on how hungry he is and it's less than $20!!! This places definitely needs some upgrades (I swear it's stuck in like a 70s theme) but it's a fun place to have some drinks after dinner and dance!

Love the concept of this place: grill your own steak or chicken.  The downside is that the grill makes everything taste like steak.  My husband has fond memories of the potato drawer that they no longer have.  It's basic food, as Maribeth points out, but there's something very charming about the place.

I love The Palms. I used to live in Carp myself and I have the fondest memories of cooking up a nice steak in front of family and friends. A true gem. I will take my grandchildren there someday, I'm sure.

We used to go to this place a lot. I like the cook your own steak concept because the dude in the kitchen can't mess it up like at the Hungry Hunter and Black Angus. The salad bar is pretty basic but it's still good. The bread, beans and salsa are decent. The best thing is that you pick from a meat selection that's freshly cut and so you can select the best quality stuff. No guessing about what's good here. This place is always mobbed, consistently good and really cheap.

$14 for filet mignon?!
and yes, its the same size as Ruth Chris's!
this place is F A R from the glitz & tux & AmEx's & valet reminiscent of  Lawry's, Ruth Chris's, JJ's Steakhouse, Arnie Mortons, LA, Hollywood, Metropolis LA County..
(Carpinteria as a whole shuns the designer obsessed LA we all sporadically detest & are ashamed of)
there is street parking, or numerous lots serving this quaint stretch of carpinteria's "main street"
we celebrated my fiancee's 31st bday on a sat evening, & the wait was an hour & they do not take reservations..
my first impression of the palms before i even stepped foot inside was "white trash white trash white trash white trash white trash".. this is the kinda place where kid rock would have celebrated his first record deal..
the people dining here were wearing their swim shorts & flip flops.. the wine list is in expensive & plentiful.. and guess what? they serve their wine in those small glasses & they fill it to the top! no swirling around in search of tannins & spider legs here!
their menus are printed on paper!
their salad bar consists of ice berg chunks!
all you can eat baked potato! (that potato bar in "kingpin" 27 toppings would totally thicken up their business here; i like chives on my baked taters)
this place is totally not for the snobby bitches/whiners you see on mtv's "my sweet 16"
the palms is for people like me & my fiancee & everyone else who just wanna get their steak & red wine on!
yes, you can order your food cooked or you can slap your cow on the grill, go back to your seat, slurp the sour cream off your appetizer baked potato, gurgle your $6 bombay sapphire martini (where in the world in LA can you find a premium gin martini priced at $6?) and check on your filet mignon 5 mins later & voila, dinners ready!
the palms is dope city & i can not wait to come back here next year on our yearly carpinteria trip..
the service is reliable, the waitressess are old & overweight w/ bleached frizzy hair & this is the best service you can ever ask for because these hags have been waitressing for ever & they do their job well cuz thats their J O B & they understand the science of waiting tables.. work for that tip, Flo!
the decor's homey, dark, dim, theres live music, the bathrooms dont contain award winning artwork,  but the palms is perfect for you carnivores.. the quality of their meat is above expectations considering this place reeks of white trash......
dont judge a book by its cover..
