Review from Dena P.
Clearwater, FL
I really really really love this place. I would visit often when I was in the area. They have plenty of Korean stuff you can't get elsewhere like (cough) Florida. If you need any Asian supplies this place will have it! I was so shocked when I first visited this place because in Florida there's no store like this at ALL!
It's large and has probably everything you would need to live. I love the whole samples of products just like in the dramas (or costco but asian style). They have produce, seafood, meat, frozen stuff, sweets, house supplies, and so much more. Even a food court!
I love the little kimchi area which were too many to remember what they had. The produce area was nice and I remember tons and tons of bean sprouts haha.
If only they had one in Tampa. I think I can live here happily. It wasn't hard to get to this place and I probably visited this place more than I expected. I stayed at my cousins house which was probably a 10 minute or less drive.
Oh I like this place :) -

Really good selection of pretty much all the ingredients you need for Asian cooking in general, not just Korean. The store seemed pretty clean and shelves were well stocked, the produce appeared to be nice and fresh, with prices much lower than the regular grocers.
The cashiers... wow, crabby much? Sheesh. And forget asking where anything is.
I don't know why the address in this listing is showing as being on 32nd- that's the warehouse, not the store. The store is located at 9601 S Tacoma Way. -

Woot woot, finally an Asian Market that is bigger than a shoe box.
I come from San Diego, which has numerous large chain Asian Markets (Ranch 99, Mitsuwa, Zion). That being said, it has been VERY difficult to get used to living in Olympia, where the "Asian markets" are more like mini marts with high price tags and minimal ingredients.
Because of this, going here was like a breath of fresh air... although not literally (you know what I mean if you've ever been to an Asian market), hehe. They have a extensive meat and fish counter, numerous aisles dedicated to fruits and veggies, an expansive noodle and sauce aisle, etc. They even have a food court, which I'm sad to say I did not try... yet.
All in all, this place is pretty awesome. It's a Korean market, so there are a few ingredients you won't find here; however for the most part, it'll exceed expectations!! -

If I were running a driver education class I would take my students to this parking lot and watch them panic. Maybe thats already happening. This store is awesome though. They have whole frozen tongue, whole frozen rabbit, duck and a host of great produce and things your not finding anywhere else. If your a foodie you have to venture in here and randomly try things. Don't be shy.

This place is impressively big and is full of all kinds of wonderful and delicious things! This Korean market has amazing prices on meat and seafood. There's a nice selection of produce, noodles, sauces, drinks, and everything else for Asian cooking. Their prices are very reasonable, but not the cheapest. Next time I want to try their Kim Chee, becuas they have like a 10 different kinds, all made fresh!!
PS It's a pain to find this place off of the freeway, and the parking lot is a bit awkward, but worth the trouble! -

Sometimes I wish you could do half star ratings because I would give Paldo world a 2 and 1/2....
I just wasn't impressed with quality, options nor quantity of what they had:( I really wanted to like this place but the only thing I really like is the restaurant in the back but then again they tend to NOT have whatever dish I am craving available when I go.
The place is almost TOO big and has TOO much "other" things that are not so Korean, that I would never need. Maybe I am being biased but this is "suppose" to be a Korean store right.
I'll continue to be a fan of my favorite market Boo Han and let Paldo World alone for the rest to figure out.....Listed in: KoReA Time

I am furious with Paldo! Not the one in Federal Way but the one in Tacoma...they built a new store partly I am sure to break wuth their less than cleanly store...let's just say NONE of my Korean friends would shop there...so I never went! They built this brand new store just a few years back...it started off lovely..easy to shop in and HUGE variety of fresh reasonable produce
I am done..the past couple of years it hit a very steep decline!
To the point where just this Sunday I made my last visit...it started with watching guys stock squishy moldy produce! I kid you not...I could not figure out the lychees because they were nothing but fuzz...and they were being stocked for sale..not being pulled! Every bin just about had rotten fuzz covered produce...rotate stock!
A while back they shifted the entire store ...took a neatly laided out floor plan..it became an unorganized place to shop
So we persisted...what used to be leisurly strools up and down isles became very quick in and outs...Sunday it was the worstmI have seen...dirty sticky floors outdated stock and stuff was literally spilled off shelves and laying where they fell...all over the place...there are tons of excuses for this happening but I do not believe there is a good reason...the cashiers work in broken down areas that look filthy!
This is sad...I hope they do something before the health dept steps in...
And the kimchi you get before you enter the market is so good !
Damn my resolve! -

With out a doubt one of the BEST PLACES to get all your Asian Groceries in Tacoma. I've been coming to this store since it was at its old location and my mom was friends with the owner of the small restaurant inside of it. Now this new Mega Center Pal-Do world Features a food court, Boulangerie Bakery, Cho-Dang Tofu Restaurant, Tacoma Szechuan restaurant, 2 cosmetic stores, 2 Banks, and I'm sure Im missing a few more things this center has....oh yeah and a church!?! lol. The selection here is HUGE mostly specializing in Korean & Japanese items but also a large selection of Chinese, Thai, & Vietnamese Ingredients as well.
If you like to make Korean BBQ then this is the place to pick up your meats! Everything is super fresh and not super frozen. The one thing lacking here compared to their previous location is their Banchan bar...just missing that "homemade touch" it once had. But you gotta go to Asian Market on Bridgeport for good Banchan. -

I wrote about their sashimi (raw fish) salad (not sure if that's how they call it) in someplace else but thought it makes more sense to put it under Paldo World so that people are are interested in the place would consider trying.
Yes, sashimi salad. My Japanese friend recommended it, and wow she's right. You can find it in their fish section. It's in a plastic bowl...basically full of sashimi, lettuce and shredded carrots. I think there were three kinds of fish...salmon, tuna and some kind of white fish...but I can be wrong. With this hot and addictive Korean salad/sashimi dressing.
Everything is fresh. It's very filling. I usually eat it with rice and miso soup for lunch AND dinner. Only $5. Considering the portion of sashimi, this is an amazing deal. You can show it off to your friend.
No I don't get paid for this.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I only shop here when I can't find what I want at Boo Han Market, which is right down the street. I have no problem with the store itself, except maybe it's a bit big to navigate around, and the prices are usually higher than Boo Han, but my main beef is with the cashier. I went to one today who had the short, bright orange hair, and it was as if I wasn't there. She didn't say one word, never looked at me, talked to another employee as she rang my items up, and never said thank you or kiss my @ss. What a pleasant shopping experience! Honestly, if you don't mind shopping for Korean food at a smaller place please shop at Boo Han or another, as Paldo World doesn't seem to appreciate your business.

I really like this place. They have a really great selection of not only Korean foods but Japanese foods. Good sales, good prices. Their non-food goods, ie dishes and such are reasonably priced.
My only beef... lets get some friendlier cashiers... or at least if you're not open turn your light off...
I love they sell large quantities of fresh made seaweed salad. I love that stuff :D it is wonderfully priced also! -

I. Love. Pal-Do World!!!
Okay, they pretty much have any Asian ingredient you need in any dish, plus cleaning supplies and household items!
But more importantly, their snack section is hyyyuuuggggeeeeee!
They always have sales on good items such as Pocky, Ramen Noodle Snacks, and much more. I mainly head to PW to load up on snacks to demolish before a long drive home and this is the best place to get them.
Pros:
-Pretty much one stop shop
-Good sales
Cons:
-Sometimes, Pocky isn't on sale :(
-I can't speak Korean. And I feel sad when the cashier speaks Korean to me, but is friendly nonetheless!
So conclusion: If you need ingredients for an Asian dish, then yes, pal-DO shop here. Haha -

It can be a little hard to find things because of how the store is laid out, but the selection is FABULOUS, and the prices are UNBELIEVABLE.
If you require the sterilized homogenized shopping experience of a Safeway in Bellevue or Medina, you probably shouldn't be shopping at an Asian market anyway, but Pal-Do World is in fact very clean and well kept (this comment is directed at Heidi E's comment below).
The selection is outstanding, and finding your stuff is half the fun.
At the Lakewood store, there is an outrageous pastry shop as well. -

Good for a spot check on what you need of you ran out but I prefer going down to Seattle to the Japanese market: Uwa something or another, can never remember how its spelled. It's bigger and better stocked.

Hey Lakewood listen up. I will trade you what ever market you want in Thurston County for Paldo. You want Capital Market? Done. Hung Phat? Say no more. Arirang? As you wish. You know what, actually since I am in a giving mood, I'll give you all three plus I'll even throw in Skateland.
I love this market. Their produce is always fresh and much cheaper than Safeway, Top Foods, Albertson's etc. I would shop here everyday. Last time my total bill was under $50 and I walked away with a garden of fruits and vegetables, an oodle of noodles, some kimchee, a plethora of sauces and some really good short ribs for Korean tacos.
So come on Lakewood hook me up. What will it take? I am willing to listen to offers. Call me. -

I'm not going to get into specifics on why this grocery is awesome - I'm just going to mention two things.
1. When I look around and feel horrifyingly white, I know I've found a good asian grocer.
2. If you haven't yet, eat at the restaurant located in the back of the store - It is fantastic, very inexpensive, and their menu is enormous.

Yay, a full service Korean market in Lakewood! Reasonable prices, two banchan bars (one with samples too!), and a fresh fish market to rival Pike Place. (Or not... but it is still pretty good.) Kimchee pancakes. Bulgogi kimbap. Yes, oh yes.
The food court looked pretty good, though we weren't able to stop to eat this time. But the signs for Chicky Pub were pretty funny. -
Review from Mikal W.
I love this place. They always have what I am looking for. It is so tempting to eat at their food court, but I prefer going down the road a little to O-Bok. The food court food is ok, nothing to write home about.
Pal-Do has a great variety of all things Korean and other ethnic foods. They are very friendly. Most of the things I have gotten their are pretty fresh. I love this place and I shop here for most of my Korean food needs.Listed in: Best of Lakewood, Best Korean Joints

I like to shop here for vegetables (the goods are best on weekends) and meat for korean barbecue. They also have an array of Asian cooking ingredients if you happen to enjoy cooking.
Also, I think the bi bim bap in the food court is such a good value. It comes with a good mix of vegetables and a good portion of meat.
IMO a lot of Tacoma restaurants are cutting back on ingredients because of the economy but nak won hasn't cut back. I haven't tried the Chinese restaurant in the food court, will try that sometime. -

I always love going to this place. The food is insanely delicious if you go to the restaurant and their selection of Asian grocery is very nice too. If you're looking for anything other than Korean or Japanese items, they don't have as many of anything else unfortunately. Other than that, this place rocks! :)

They got a lot of Asian foods and different type of snacks. A great location for weekend food shopping or last minutes grocery.

Love the produce here - its well priced and fresher than most places (to include the commissary). The prepared foods "deli" is pretty decent and quite good. The restaurants in the back are awesome and remind me of days being stationed in Korea.

Review from Jake K.
Not bad at all! This supermarket actually beat out every Korean supermarket I've been to in DC with both the variety of foods, setup, and prices. Plado even has a food court that has a variety of foods you can get in a pinch. It's nothing to sing about, but for an Army town, I think it's certainly worth it's weight in gold.

ONE word- KIM CHEE BAR. OK another word.. AMAZING. They would kim chee marshmallows and it would be good. The selection of kim chee is amazing- all different kinds for different tastes, little crabs, lotus flowers, daikon, etc.. etc.. The produce selection is also outstanding, where you will find a lot not normally sold at conventional grocery store and all that you normally would. The prices on the produce is excellent, great value. The seafood and meat selection is great, kinda reminds me of Uwajimaya although Pal-do caters to Korean Cuisine a bit more and that's OK because this Japanese Girl loves me some good Korean Cuisine! Also in Paldo World they have one of the most amazing bakeries I have ever seen. The cakes and pastries are not only some of the best tasting I have ever had the presentation is just a beautiful. When I walk by I drool on the floor so much the have to call over the PA system in Korean for a wet clean up.
The have several casual restaurants located inside, although I have not tried... -

Paldo World always has just what i need, produce is fresh, and hard to find asian products are easy to find here. My husband and i are huge fans of the Nak Won restaurant in the back. Best bulgogi, and spicy pork we've ever had. We both agree it even beats out the food we had while living in Korea. The staff is friendly and polite, and the food is reasonably priced. This is our go to for great korean food.

Best place for Korean groceries in the Tacoma area. Prices are decent, but not the best. Variety is good. I would not buy any small appliances there (rice cookers and such) as they are way overpriced.

Seattle, WA
This Paldo was amazing! I had given up on finding a great Korean grocery store in Washington (called me spoiled for growing up in NYC and living several years in L.A.). I just wish it was in Seattle/Bellevue (Bellevue's is mediocre) instead of all the way in Tacoma. The supermarket is huge and they have tons of fresh produce, meat and seafood. There's also a food court which is very good and the Boulangerie Bakery Cafe has the yummiest pastries.
