2 reviews for Palace Saloon & Restaurant
We went here about three years so we couldn't remember what we ordered. What we do remember is that we enjoyed eating there. While we were waiting for our order, I took a picture of the bar with the signage. If you look at the posted pic, the pic came out very clearly. Then, Big Bear and I took turns into taking pictures with the bar and none of it came out clearly. We probably tried to take 10 solo pictures between the two of us and all of them were blurry. It just think it's kind of spooky.
RESERVATION/ WAIT: It didn't take long before we were seated but the wait for the food took a bit while. It was a very busy place... very popular. That's why we had time trying to take pictures of us with the bar and reading the funny books on the table.
AMBIENCE: Felt like being in the OLD WEST. It was definitely different.
PRICE: Affordable
SERVICE: It was busy place, so the service was kind of slow... but it was "fine as cream gravy" as they say it in the Old West. We enjoyed reading the funny books. Oh yah, they have different funny books per table.
OVERALL: If we ever get back to Virginia City, we probably eat here again. But then again, we want to try the other restaurants too. If you've never gone here, try it.
1 star - Hi yo Silver, Away... far, far, away from this place.
2 stars - Only when Clint Eastwood shows up as the Man with No Name
3 stars - It was ok but I rather eat somewhere else.
4 stars - Heya. I want some more but I'm full!
5 stars - Yummy, yummy in my tummy.
We needed to stop for lunch while visiting this wonderful 'old mining' town. This place was recommended by the Visitor's Center personnel and it was a great suggestion. This is one of the old saloons in town turned into a restaurant. It is kept rather authentic with many original pictures in the walls, a huge and old bar display counter, cracking/original floors... I mean, you feel that you are taken back in time.
Serving the 'all-American" food menu, we had onion rings and the chips and salsa as appetizers. The salsa is homemade and very yummy! The onion rings were thick in a beer battered mix. Double yummy! The staff was very friendly but rather scattered, being all over the place taking orders and delivering meals. The saloon was not split in sections as most restaurants do, but that did not take away from the entire staff being very friendly and accommodating.
For lunch, I had the double decker reuben sandwich and my friend had the chicken sandwich with melted white cheddar. Both dishes came with french fries. The sandwiches were very tasty and the fries were very crispy.
