A great mainstay, PBC
What can I say that's bad about this place, other than get here early or you won't have a seat - if that's a bad thing...
I love coming here every time I visit Pagosa Springs, you can feel like a local even if you aren't. Compliments to the staff (Tony, Karen, Meredith, Abbey), they are always friendly and helpful in selecting the right beer on tap.
Come early unless you know someone occupying a table, there is always the standup area too - if it's not occupied. There is a great fire-pit outside and the conversation is always lively.
Oh, don't forget to try the NITRO! -

Didn't have a chance to eat here, but we pulled into town, grabbed a couple of growlers and pissed in their bathroom. We had their IPA & ESB, which were decent, but nothing mind blowing.
Gave them the extra star for their grounds - looks like a real kickin' place to hang out on a beautiful spring day and tilt a couple of pints. Look forward to going back one day... -

Best Brewery in Pagosa Springs!
Yeah, this place is cool. Its a neat mountain town brewery. The beer is tastey...its not the over the top kind of brews youll find in Denver, Boulder or Fort Collins...just good, solids beers. The food, again, is tastey. I had the The Sanora Burger and I would order it again.
My 2 complaints, the price. It is expensive and dont expect great service. I sat at the bar for 10 mins before I had to ask some random staff member if I could get a beer...another 15 before I got a menu. Total...burger, fries (an extra $2) and 3 beers was over $31 with tip.
In the end, who cares, Wolf Creek got 10" of fresh...that'll make anything look, smell and taste good;) I'll be back at the PSB after the next snow event! -

Small quaint joint, great micro brews and good food.
FOOD - fish & chips (salmon) was spectacular. Pizza, The Q, was good. Pair your pint w/ food.
ATMOSPHERE - interesting layout of the entire joint, the wait staff continuously run outside to go to the kitchen which is across the walkway.
LOGISTICS - need a car, can be a bit full lot. Tucked away from Highway 160, so check the map before heading out there.
CREATIVITY - a wide range of microbrews, sampler set available but didn't know about it. Don't forget to get yourself a T-shirt. (I sound like I am marketing for the entity) -

Yummie Yummie real food - this place is a wonderful place. They have home brewed beers - at least 9 on tap - and they do a great flight of all the beers. All the food is home made - we had the pretzels as an appetizer, pizza for the kids, a 'man' dog for a teenager, fish and chips and salmon tacos. All were wonderful. It is a smaller restaurant but they have nice fire pits outside.
Oh the beer battered fries were over the top as well! -

Sorry PBC, gotta take you down a notch.
The last visit featured not-so-good service from a waitress who would put our plates down on the the other side of the table and run before we could ask her for anything AND she forgot E's beer. At a brewery. That we went to for beer. Sorry, but I think that's pretty unacceptable!
Still love your beer! Maybe it's best if I get growlers to-go from now on...1 Previous Review: Show all »

Went here at a friend's recommendation and it lives up to the hype! It's an awesome place to eat or get a beer. Food was surprisingly good. Just like everyone is saying, get the salmon fish & chips!
If your staying anywhere near Wolf Creek for skiing it's well worth the drive. You can tell Pagosa Brewing Co is the result of someone who loves good food and a wide variety of good beer. Try the Alpine Abbey if you need to warm up. -
Review from Jason J.
Small, quaint, fun, beer-y. With a ridiculous but awesome outdoor seating area, the Pagosa Brewing Company welcomes you. It feels like a home...because it is.
With the Ladyfriend and another couple, we waited maybe half an hour for a table, which was fine with us. We sampled some brews and chatted away the time. When our table was ready we made our way into the bustling, active interior. The noise-level was just enough to energize you without drowning out your conversations, or making you feel like you have to shout to be heard across the table.
We indulged on burgers, explored the merchandise (t-shirts, hats, etc) and enjoyed a few more pints as we reveled in good company, good food, and good surroundings.
We're thinking of making our ski trip to Wolf Creek a yearly event, and I'd be a liar if I said the PBC didn't have a lot to do with that for me. If you can find it, stop in and stay a while. If you can't find it, look harder. -

What an awesome little brewery,
A+ for the beer, the oatmeal porter, and IPA were fantastic and we had a salmon fish and chips that was really fantastic. Came here in the winter after a trip to the hot springs and it looked like the place would be even better in the summer with a huge patio. Highly recommend this place. -

The staff here is friendly, helpful and they make you feel like family. No bad beer here! Loved every drop of every beer and I tried them all. ;-) They have a pizza chicken, tomato and green chili peppers...YUMMY! Can't remember the name because of all the tasty beer. Bring the kids they are family friendly. Can't wait to visit there again.

We had to wait 45 min. for a table. I tried the Wolf Creek Wheat and their Peach Wheat. Wolf Creek was very tasty and the peach was not too overpowering. Also had the salmon fish and chips. One word -- superb! We were lucky enough o have a table under the pines and enjoyed a local band.

This is a must stop when passing through this part of the country. The wife and I spent a weekend in pagoasa springs over the summer. We should have gone to the brewery both nights we were there.
First the beers. I started with a poor richards ale. I'm a fan of brown ale's and this is up there with the best of them. Tommyknockers maple nut brown is my favorite all time beer, and the poor richards is a bit different but just as good. Really bold flavor. Next I had the red, which was also fantastic. It was smoother with more of a crisp finish. Next time I would order the red first as the poor richards has such a potent flavor in comparison. I like to start with a lighter tasting beer for sipping, and something powerful with my food. Both were excellent. I wanted to buy some, but you have to buy a growler. Our server mentioned they were considering a small bottling plant, so we'll see. Now on to the food.
The menu is pretty standard bar fare, but holy wow at the quality here! The fish and chips is beer battered Salmon! Maybe I've been under a rock, but I've never heard of battered and fried Salmon. It was really fantastic! Crispy and crunchy with huge flavor. I've only had better beer batter in alaska. I ordered it just for the novelty, but the mix of gamey Salmon with the crispy beer batter is really something! The wife is an extremely picky eater and she even loved it. As I recall it comes with a tangy sauce that was good, but really not needed with a dish this tasty.
Wifey ordered a burger. They advertise on the menu that the beef is locally sourced, hormone free, all grass fed(not finished on corn). It really shows. I had a couple of bites of this burger and it is fantastic. The beef has a great flavor! She likes her meat well done, and I'm a medium rare type, but it was still great. Easily hangs with the cherry cricket, and much better than what I had recently at city grille. Really it's just a case of doing simple food, and doing it really well. This is all cooked on a food trailer, so they can't get too fancy. I'd skip the pizza.
We will be passing through to ski at durango in march, and we are certainly going to stop here again. A brewpub deserving 5 stars! Awesome! -

To my surprise wow they are the best meal i have satin. They are to die for. The place is awsome. They have a wonderful outside with a playgroud for the kids so the adults can enjoy themselves without all whimpering im board. Go if you ever are down in pagosa or even driving though.

My dad loved this place. I liked it a lot.
Things we liked/loved:
- the chicken wings (the hot wings are medium-hot)
- the (salmon) fish and chips
- the music
- the horses parked out front with the cars
- the elitist bartender who scoffed when someone asked for an ice cube in their beer
- the tables in the bar
- the friendly service
- clean restroom
- choice of beer! we got the wheat and the pale ale on tap!
- the kids menu
Things we didn't care for:
- outdoor seating is really dark at night
- the kids play area was disheveled/messy/unnecessarily big
- the menu could maybe have one or two more appetizer-sized options
- the man sitting at the bar who was talking about how he is cheating on his wife through text messages and secret meetups -

OMG - The fish taco's are soooo amazing! Upon ordering them, the waitress told me that they are her all time favorite too. I'm pretty damn picky (at least about my tacos) but when they came out, so heaped with toppings that I couldnt even see the tortillas underneath I had a good feeling. They were stuffed with salmon and pinapple and everything a fish taco needs! Yum Yum YUM!!! I just wish there had been a 3rd one on the plate!
The servers and staff were all really nice as well. We were there for a large event and had a reserved space under a tent in the outside area. They told us we were free to table hop, and just refer to the number on our original table if we wanted to order more from somewhere else. (Simple I know, must most places don't think of that ahead of time and your bill gets all crazy!)
Super fun and casual, and if you like fish tacos, it's almost worth the 5 1/2 hour drive down from Denver! -

WOW!!!
We came for a tour of the brewery and saw some other people with food. it was a bit early for dinner so we got a flight of the beers to try, they were GREAT!!! All so flavorful and each individual. We started with their Kayak brew battered fries, AMAZING... I'm a ketchup girl and I couldn't even dare put ketchup on them, they were so great. I got a burger as did my friend and her husband had the beer batter salmon and fries, The home made tartar sauce was AWESOme. Everything was great! I loved it all!!! The service was friendly and had good recommendations, I can't wait to come back... -

I went here while on vacation, and was rather imressed with all of their beers I tasted...
Poor Richard's ale was good... but my favorite was called something like the Alpine Amber 10, which was a very smooth dark beer (9.25% alcohol and thats by volume) that finished with a pear taste.. not sweet, but unmistakably pear-like.. It arrived in a "Chimay-like" glass which made it taste that much better:)
Given that it is the 2nd highest alcohol content of all the beers there, I was shocked at how delicate the flavors were...
we wanted to take some home but they only bottle certain beers so that they can be sure not to run out.. (-.25 stars)
The food is delish too.. very well seasoned..
I had the Wild Salmon Fish and Chips which came with a sun-dried tomato tartar sauce.. I liked it a lot.. and knowing I was getting a good serving of Omega didn't hurt either.. I feel the dish had a bit more potential than it lived up to due to the breading being too thin and not crunchy. (-.25 stars)
The major drawback to this place and MOST places I am aware of in Pagosa is that it is a bar that closes at 10pm... so whats a girl to do but subtract a half star??
Anyways, the waitress was awesome.. The beer was superior, and the food was surprisingly good for bar food..
Another friend got the vietnamese salad, which i must say i was coveting due to all of the yummy herbs in it... cilantro scallions..etc... looked great..
Also, its really close to the best place in Pagosa to stay (Wyndham resort) since thats where pretty much everyone we met was staying.. good people!
In short i would never go to pagosa without stopping by here! -

Tony (the owner) makes some of the best beers i've ever had, many have received numerous awards, and are certainly 5-star worthy. Pagosa Brewing (not Pagosa Pubworks which is across the street) is a "must go to" for any beer lover.
food is provided by Farrago and made in the on-site cooking trailer. it's of the standard bar variety but the fried green beans are outstanding. the food is good but not worth of 5-stars.
there's not much to the indoor seating area, about 5 small high tops, several bar chairs, and 7-8 four tops. however, there is plenty of outdoor seat that is quite pleasant during the summer and early fall.
after a long day of skiing, golfing, hiking, fishing, etc., Pagosa Brewery is a great way to end the day. -

We were just traveling through Pagosa, as we have many times before, looking for a good place to eat. We stumbled upon Pagosa Brewing Company and thought we would try something new. Wow! The greeting was friendly, the outdoor atmosphere was relaxing and the service was fast. But the food was the real find. Every member of the family agreed that the food was fantastic! (Even the kids!)
The homemade pizza dough was amazing, but the salmon tacos could be in a five-star restaurant.
We look forward to coming back to our new favorite Pagosa find! (And, yes, the beer was good, too...) -

I was in Pagosa Springs during the Bicycle Tour of Colorado and decided I needed to find a brewpub. Lucky for me, Pagosa Brewing Co was near my hotel and one of the BTC bus stops.
There is a large outdoor seating area, with shade provided by a tent and trees. There are also several picnic tables with umbrellas. On a warm June day, the shade a breeze were perfect for relaxing with some beers.
I started with the sampler tray of beers. It contained a 4 oz sample of everything they had on tap - 14 different beers during our visit. With a list of beers that long, I expected their brewmaster to be spread thin, but surprisingly the beers were all pretty good.
The food menu is short, but we took that to mean they wanted limited options to keep quality up. The first time I was here, I tried the brewer's burger and the reuben. Both were quite good, but the reuben was the clear winner. On my second trip, I tried the beer brat. It tasted okay, but trying to eat it on the bun that was falling apart was almost impossible.
I like that they use beers in the preparation o some dishes, although I'd prefer to see more of that. I also like that they use biodegradable water cups and cuttlery.
Service was slow on our return trip, by hopefully that was an anomaly.
Recommendations: If you're a fan of beer, get the sampler. Consider splitting it with a friend, as it's quite a bit of beer. For eats, try the rueben. -

Fantastic handcrafted beers! Did I say I love their beers? In particular, the "Timber Wolf Amber Wheat" and "Poor Richard's Ale" were awesome.

How many college students thought "Man, if only I could major in beer" ? Well the owner and brewmaster at Pagosa Springs actually did. Tony sells himself short but during an informative brewery tour, we managed to squeeze out of him that he did in fact study beer in Germany. The Pagosa Brewery has a fantastic selection of handcrafted brews. Delightfully done and supremely tasty. The pub has a wonderful atmosphere, making one feel immediately at home. Everyone is friendly and the staff makes you feel less like a patron and more like an old friend come for a pint.
My favorite was the Alpine Abbey Grand Cru - a lovely Belgian. My compatriots favored the Nipple Mountain Nip barley wine and the Poor Richards Ale - a colonial style red/brown ale. We tasted a wide variety and ended up buying growlers of the Kayaker Cream Ale for the wives who don't favor beer, and the Soaker's Stout.
I am counting the hours until I can head back. During the Winter, they are only open from 3 to 10 and the kitchen closes at 9. -

Between Yelp and my handy iPhone version of the Beer Mapping Project, this was a sure stop.... and wow am I glad we did! Be sure to go to the right one, the similarly named Pagosa Pubworks across the street is not the same establishment.
The beers are really fantastic: this coming from a very picky snob of quality craft beers and avid fan of Deschutes, Stone, Avery, Dogfish Head.
Outdoor sunny and shaded seating in a wonderful setting and very
kid friendly!
The salmon taco's were recommended and I highly second that... I want another right now in fact. :)
Certainly 5-star worthy, if you have 1 stop in Pagosa, this should be it. -
Review from Derrell P.
San Francisco, CA
They're not kidding about this place being hard to find. If the person who told us to go there hadn't insisted we keep driving "out back", we might have assumed it had closed or something. But a constant stream of people dressed in green kept us searching just long enough to find the source of their merriment. And we were rewarded.
Everything we tried was delicious, though a bit warm, but we blamed that on the prodigious consumption rate brought about by an overly enthusiastic St. Patrick's Day crowd. Either they couldn't cool their kegs fast enough or they're just believers in not-quite-iced-cold beer. We figured the former, but no matter. It was cold enough to get the point across; this is good beer.
There's also excellent food on-site in the guise of Degelman's Red Wagon Grill, a small hot dog shack out in the beer garden that vends delicious homemade sausages and assorted upscale pub grub. And when you're feeling like it's about time to leave, they have growlers in a fridge for later. There's even a nice collection of liquid yeast and fresh hops for home brewers.
This is a great local (and locals) brew pub. -

The food is ok and this is a pleasant lunch spot.It is the beer that really excited me.There was a dry hopped ,I think single field, Colorado hops ale, that just came on when I was there. It is always fun to stumble into something like that. Hops should be loved and respected as should goats and donkeys and sometimes even people.

Pagosa brewing company has good food and surprisingly good beer - surprising because most places that have 16 of their own beers on tap have only one or two good beers in that mix, and the only beer we didn't like at Pagosa was the Rodeo Rider Red (and that was only because it wasn't actually available yet so we couldn't try it). ;)
Even when their beers go for the funkier flavors, they keep the flavors mild enough that they still taste like good beer, too. (Tip: The Coconut Porter is fantastic after it warms up for a bit). The beer sampler includes 4oz of every beer on tap, and I would highly recommend sharing this with a friend.
As for food- the Pulled Corned Beef Reuben was excellent - I'm back for the second time in two days to have another one!
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about beer. Their explanation of their smoked beer (Smokey the Beer) was extremely thorough and interesting.
Nice relaxed atmosphere, too - large outdoor seating area (lots covered) with trees, wood chips, kids and dogs allowed on leashes, sunshine, nice breeze - really a lovely spot.
Highly recommended for beer lovers! -

Pagosa Brewing is really cranking out some delicious beer! They have a HUGE variety, I think there were 14 beers on the sample tray, ranging from traditional pilsner, amber, IPA to some really good Grand Cru, tripel and barleywine styles. I think I went back for a second and third grand cru which was potent, spicy and very well done (5 stars).
The bar was hopping with locals and tourists alike, but the serving staff was efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable. We started with a side of fried green beans and had an excellent chesse pizza for the main course.
My only complaint, and I don't know if this is a Colorado thing or not, but they would NOT allow me to refill an empty growler with their tasty beer. Typically, I have waltzed into various brewpubs with an empty glass growler, or mason jar for that matter, and they fill it with beer to take home. At Pagosa Brew however, they do a blue rhino-like propane exchange, only with growlers of select beer, including amber, pilsner and IPA.
Hopefully, just some constructive criticism, because again, the beer was heavenly, the service top notch and the experience definitely worthwhile. -

I ate at PBC this past weekend. I was in town with a buddy who owns a cabin near by, we went snowboarding all day and were pretty stoked to try a local brewery. We walked in, looked around for a sign to "sit anywhere" or a hostess and didn't find either, so we took a seat anyway. We ordered drinks, and everyone got pretty excited as we read through the menu. No problems ordering as the place started to fill up. When our food came out is when things really went south. I ordered a pepperoni pizza to split with a friend, I should have just got a DiGiorno from the market. To add insult, it was a $6 pizza with an $18 dollar price. 2 of my friends ordered burgers, one came out with the wrong side, and another asked to add mushrooms, they didn't make it. The staff was great in fixing their situation, but there was nothing that could be done with the pizza. Before we left, a buddy ordered wings to-go. When we got home he realized they gave him 7 wings in the order. "I'm sorry what!" For everyone who is visiting America for the first time, or has been living in a cave, wings come in an order of 12(1 dozen)!!!!! Even worse, he paid $7.50 for them, I'm sorry a wing that costs more than a buck, where am I!!! My final issue with this place was this statement, If you want to lower costs, pay in cash. THIS IS 2010-11, WE LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, KIDS ARE BORN WITH A VISA CARD THESE DAYS, IF YOU CANT HANDLE THAT, THEN SHUT YOUR DOORS! The only people using cash these days are the drug cartels coming up from Mexico, and shady business owners looking to make their own tax cuts! I am a huge supporter of local businesses and more so local brewery's, but PBC, never again...

Food, beer and staff were excellent. So good, we went there two of the three nights in Pagosa.
They have American style ales as well as Belgian styles. I loved the Poor Richards. I am not a fan of Belgian styles but my buddy had a couple and loved them. The staff shot the breeze with us one night when it wasn't as busy. Another night they were slammed, but were still able to give us great service.
I love green chili so I had to try the green chili pasole. It was awesome. Different than regular green chili, but still very good.
The only complaint is they won't refill growlers. Like stated in another review, they do an exchange. Problem is, I don't need another growler. I have too many already and I have a nice German style growler I like to use. This isn't a big enough deal to loose a star, but I need to let them know so I can hopefully get a refill next year when I make it down there!
