This place is awesome.

I mean the fact this place is owned by the same owners as Modo Mio should say enough.

The sandwiches are amazing! Huge portions for relatively little money.

I had the Diavolo with spicy chicken and salami and it was unreal - extremely greasy but that just added to the awesomeness.  I also tried their Italian the Daddy Wab which was amazing as well. I mean I love to eat and I can usually eat a lot - but all I could eat weas a half of this enormous sandwich - so I had the other half for the lunch the next day.  $7 for a huge sandwich that is really 2 meals is enough as it is - but when it is as amazingly good as the sandwiches here  - thats enough for me to give it 5 stars.

In the words of Borat (and yes, I'm still pulling a 2006 joke), "Oh la la!" Not only did my garlic/pig/pepper breath reek havoc on Philadelphia that day, but I was quarantined in my home for 24 hours. I'm sorry for being so graphic, but does this not set the mood for comfort food or what?!

Philly is notorious for "the sandwich place." Every day I overhear somebody talking about the new sandwich place at dot dot dot. Why do we love steak sandwiches, hoagies, hero's, etc. so much? What's so cool about a good sandwich? Well, I'm hear to tell you, it's everything. There's nothing better than a cold Philly night of boozing and stopping by "the sandwich place" to grab an artery-clogger. Each bite, sinking you further and further into a deep and comforting coma. Before you know it, your brow is sweating from the long-hots, and you cool it down with a micro-brew. And in your deepest and darkest moment, you realize how pathetic life has gotten that "this" is heaven. But hey, that's how us Philadelphian's role... we did just get rated ugliest people in the country...

As for Paeson's, all above applies. The sandwich's they make will cripple you and leave you praying for me. My recommendation, the Arista (whole roasted suckling pig w/ broccoli rabe, Italian long hots, sharp provolone and natural jus). "Oh la la."

This is one of those places where I wish I could create a giant arrow saying "GO HERE NOW!" Its a hole in a wall that I missed the first time I drove down the street and it doesn't look like much from the outside. But inside are the most delicious smells. Most people grab and go so we were able to sit and enjoy our meal. The guy who took our order was very friendly and energetic. We tried the Paesano and Guistao (sp?). The Paesano was comforting and the Guistao was so decadent. No wonder this place is so popular; its totally unexpected and the outcome is astounding.
Plus there were these guys who ordered and paid, then they decided they wanted to try the potatoes too and the guy waived the $2 saying that its on them. Small gestures like that tell you about how they care about making their customers happy and making good food, rather than making a profit. I'll be here again very soon. I don't think I can eat another hoagie anywhere else lol

PS They close around 7 or so, so get there early!

I got the Arista pork sandwich my first time there this past Saturday as a carry out. It was $8 and worth it, very tasty and a large sandwich. I must mention how SALTY it was though, it was overwhelming at first, then the broccoli rabe flavor took over.

This place is small, there are about 10 seats inside yet they provide a great view of the sandwich making.

I have to say, my sandwich grossed me out a little bit. I had the daddy wad, and it was just...I don't even know how to describe it. It just grossed me out.
But, my cousin had the Arista(I think this is what it is called), the one with the suckling pig, and he said it was pretty much the best thing he has ever tasted. So, next time I will go for that.

Awesome sandwiches; had the "paesano" - gourment style philly cheesesteak, and suckling pig sandwich.  Both amazing, perhaps both a little too salty.  Great bread, huge sandwiches, spicy and flavorful!

I don't want to exaggerate, but I would consider committing several crimes - except for kidnapping because I'm lazy - so I could eat  their sandwiches. Fresh ingredients, hand-made awesomeness. I even got a drink on the house because I was visiting.

I love this place.

Love is an often overuse word. But true love is an unconditional trust and absolute happyness. And this place - even though i've only been here twice -  makes me feel as though i can unconditionaly trust them to make my mouth water, and provide me with absolute happyness following each and every lunch.

Ok, a bit too far, but what the hell.... but the pig is off the hook (WARNING, save half for later) and the veggie thing with eggplant and pesto is like a one unceasing thirty minute explosion of flavor.

Paesano's is definitely hole-in-the-wall. Besides the kitchen, there is room for about ten people to stand inside. There are two tables outside, but expect this place to be packed. The shop is staffed with a few people all taking orders and frantically whipping up delicious sandwiches.

With almost nothing else to remark upon, Paesano's has to make the food do all of the talking. And I'm glad to report that it's all good. Ten hoagies, all with delicious ingredients like roasted tomatoes, gorgonzola, broccoli rabe, and caramelized peppers all served next to perfectly roasted pork, beef, and other meats. Even if you don't eat meat, there's tuna fish and an eggplant option. The bread is great, the sandwiches are delicious and even thinking about them is making me salivate right now.

I am always searching for eateries that can dethrone the popular choice around my neighborhood. First it was Key, and Primo has nothin' on Paesano's. This picture looks as gross as the sandwich is good.

Bottom Line: Check the menu and call ahead to avoid the inevitable wait. Pick any sandwich; you'll be happy. Sandwiches come with recommended sides, but the staff with accommodate a substitution without  the blink of an eye.  I'll be visiting again soon.

Thank heavens this place opened up where it is.  That means I don't have to travel all the way down to Snyder avenue in south Philly in order to get a delicious pork sandwich.  No need for me to describe the food, just look at the menu and its descriptions should have you salivating.

It's so good here, being six days removed from having all four impacted wisdom teeth removed and still sore, I had to have another.  I got the namesake roast beef sandwich then I hunkered down.  Pain was filling my skull but I couldn't stop eating.  Does that make me a Paesano masochist?

Sandwiches are, for my money, this world's perfect food -- Hands Down!

The wonderful employees at Paesano's can probably tell I love this place for 2 reasons:

1. I never go there with the same people twice; I'm always taking new folks there to extol the virtues of this little East Girard gem who, in-turn, go forth and find others they can turn-on to the Paesano's experience.

2. While there my friends and I can't shut-up about how much we freaking love this place!

Paesano's makes an Italian hoagie that is every bit as good as the one my Mom used to make for us to haul down to a Phil's game at Vet's Stadium. The roast pork is warm and juicy, the lamb sausage is tangy and creamy thanks to the soft addition of gorgonzola and then there's the sandwich called "Tuscan Tony". Uh, go there, learn about it for yourself, don't invite your cardiologist.

If sandwiches were an art, these guys would be Picasso. These have got to be the best sandwiches I've ever had! They're so creative and delicious. How can you hear, "Whole Roasted Suckling Pig" and not instantly want to eat here? You can't, try it.

I've had the Arista and Gustaio and both are excellent. The big flavors coming out of this little shop are amazing. I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Seating inside is limited but they've added some outdoor seating which is nice. There can be a little bit of a wait but it's well worth it.

What can be more patriotic than hoagies and the Art Museum on Independence weekend?  OK, so the hoagies were my way of bribing the kids into entering the cavernous halls to gaze on the genius of Eakins, Hopper and Copley, all home grown talent.  And why shouldn't the sandwiches match the commitment to excellence that those artists had.  Spurred on by Yelp reviews, we headed to NoLibs to try out the newly crowned purveyors of the best Italian Hoagie in Philly.

And my, oh, my, excellent it was.  Well proportioned old world flavors of Italian hams and salamis and the surprise bitterness of the arugula and the much celebrated seeded rolls made for an eye opening celebration of the palate.  Even better was the roast suckling pig with broccoli rabe sandwich.  A more tender and moist pulled pork can scarcely be found.  Even better than my former high water mark, Dinic's at RTM.  The man-cub predictably got the hot dog with salami and bolognese sauce.  Even that was good, although a bit salty for my taste.

We got the crispelle for dessert with a nice nutty combo of nutella and apricot jam and a wonderfully made crepe. A continental PBJ for the grown up!

With sandwiches like these, I bet I can bribe the progeny into attending Italian opera.

Why are you looking at me like that?

The radio told me I should try Paesano's hoagies. No, that's not quite right. The internet told me that the radio told me I should try Paesano's hoagies. However I got the information, I was glad that this little shop was brought to my attention. In an unassuming shop on an unassuming street in Northern Northern Liberties (or Southern Fishtown?)  Paesano's is humbly assembling gourmet sandwiches that rival anything I've had in Philly or elsewhere.

I ate the namesake sandwich, the Paesano: a great seeded roll packed with delicious roast beef. This isn't your average deli roast beef, this is big chunks of juicy meat cooked perfectly. Also, this sandwich was topped with cole slaw. Great combination.

They ran out of rolls shortly after we began to devour our food ... I think around 6:45. I could only stare at the poor souls walking in after that with pity; they would not be experiencing culinary bliss. I'd also recommend calling ahead or allowing yourself plenty of time, our food took about 15 minutes to come out. The inside portion of the shop has a counter with about 8 stools and was pretty hot inside. The two people working there were knowledgeable and friendly despite their busy-ness. There's two tables you can eat at outside. Given it's current popularity, I'd consider Paesano's a food destination rather than a quick lunch stop. Plan to spend some time there and savor the meal and the experience.

I have attempted to eat here a bunch of times but I always seemed to miss its open hours, even though my friend works there and I live around the corner (it closes at 7pm).

Last night I finally was able to experience the succulence of a Gustaio (lamb sausage) sandwich with sun-dried cherries, gorgonzola and fennel. The Lovely Deanna makes the sausage right there in front of you!!  Everything we got was delicious and I am still full today (but I am a small person). They give you wet-naps because everything is so juicy that it can get messy. I can't wait to go back for the Crispelle (crepe with nutella and apricot)!

It's a small spot, so don't go with a group, but GO!  Go tonight!  And tip the cook ;-)

Tried out Paeson's a couple weeks ago.  They were friendly and welcoming but that's besides the point.
My buddy and I decided to grab a couple of their sandwiches to try for the first time.  I called ahead and ordered.  When I stopped in to pick them up they offered free drinks with each sandwich and decided to not charge for extra's like cheese add ons.

We split two sandwiches to see how they were.
The Paesano : slow roasted beef, sweet & sour cabbage, perrancino and natural jus.   It was very good.  Their bread is wonderful too.
The other choice was the one that had me in bliss.  The Gustaio: roasted lamb sausage, sun dried cherry mustardo, gorgonzola and roasted fennel.  WOW, this one I fell in love with.  It was more a wrap, which was fine by me.  The flavors were really kicking and a bit spicy.  I cant wait to try this one again.
Now though, it's going to be a challenge to try The Arista, whole rosted suckling pig with broc. rabe... because that damn lamb sausage will be calling my name.  mmmmm i-i-i-i i i - i ke (lamb voice).

I live a couple of blocks from Paesano's, and still I passed it unknowingly. It's a little yellow signed shop, in the middle of a wintery lonely block on Girard Avenue.

When I finally made a concerted effort to sample their stuff, my mouth and tummy did a little dance.

I have tried everything on the menu with the exception of the chickpea sandwhich. It's all unbelievable. I even tried the Tuscan Tony, a giant hotdog thingee wrapped in amazingness.

They have sandwhich and soup specials every day, and I'm a sucker for specials. The other day I had the best cheesteak I've ever tried in my life. Thick and tender ribyeye rolled in some type of pepperorn smothered in a homemade ragout with a fresh seeded soft roll.

I wanted to call them after I ate it and thank them.

I've picked up Paesano's three times now, and each time it gets more crowded. The sandwiches are some of the best and most creative I've ever had. We've tried most of them, including the Arista (suckling pig), Gustaio (lamb) and Paesano (roast beef). Plus a special chicken on they had once. Overall, the Gustaio is my probably my favorite, followed by the Arista and the Paesano. The chicken was actually the only thing I haven't liked so far.

The other great thing is drinks are included in the price of the sandwich - a nice touch. And the folks who work at this tiny place are super-friendly. I'll be going back next weekend, in all likelihood, and recommend you go too!

Best roast beef, Paesano, with provolone in the city. I used to make a regular pilgrimage to south philly for a combo - no more. The slow roasted beef melts in your mouth. For dessert the Crispelle a combination of nutella and apricot on a pan fried crepe was only missing a glass of milk. Good eats can come from small places. There is only seating for 5-6 at a counter.

I had to question what the menu stated as "philly styple". Then I looked at the photo that I had snapped of my half-eaten sandwich, only then realizing philly style was the method of serving steaks & such on wax paper wrap; a more sturdy wax paper mat is also provided.

I had the italian hoagie - it's a classic and they do it remarkably well.   The ingredients are fresh, quality, and combined in perfect portions.  My friends had the chicken wrap and grilled sausage, both were equally good.  Paesano's may very well be the best hoagie in Philadelphia.

Paesano's is an awesome little sandwich shop with a lot of character.  Me and 3 friends checked it out last night after hearing they had the best Italian Hoagie in Philly.  When I got there it wasn't what I expected (a hoagie shop), but it was way better than I expected.
You can either order from a window outside or inside at the counter (theres only about 10 seats inside).  The 3 people behind the counter were crazy busy from the second we got there til the second we left filling sandwich orders (they even ran out of Sesame Rolls soon after we got there!)
Anyways we all decided to order a different sangwich (I don't know why though, because no one shared with anyone else...I guess cause we all found them so damn tasty we couldn't).  I decided to go with the Zawzeech which was a simple Philly staple:Sausage, grilled onions, and peppers (I'm 99% sure there were peppers on there anyway).  The Sausage was fantastic....just dripping with juices and flavor, and just a bit spicy.  Awesome stuff.  And the crispy Sesame roll just pulled it all together.  My friend couldn't say enough good things about his Paesano sandwich as well.  I will definitely be back to check out the Arista and the potato side dish as well... my mouth is watering right now just thinking about it!

How could I have not known something so delicious was in my neighborhood?! We decided to try Paesano's after hearing it was a sister restaurant of Modo Mio. We were gleefully greeted by one of the owners, who was happy to talk about the sandwiches. I ordered the Panelle (and I enjoyed the sauce and did not think it was unnecessary, although I am not vegan.) while my boyfriend had the Arista (roasted suckling pig, broccoli rabe, hot peppers, jus). I was so satisfied with my wrap I could it all over again right now! We also ordered the roasted potatoes, and they were also yummy. Everything tasted like it was made with love.

I was also shocked that our whole dinner cost about $14. It is wonderful to get a delicious and affordable meal at an establishment that truly appreciates your business. I'm sure I'll eat here at least once a week.

yet another great Philadelphia sandwich sanctuary. this place is run by the same owners of modo mio which explains the top notch grub they churn out. Their Paesano- roast beef smothered w/gorgonzola and coleslaw- makes me forget about cheese steaks. And their take on the roast pork- Arista is probably my favorite pork sandwich in the city ( I say probably because I am a flake and may change my mind tomorrow but definately top 2). Big fan of the diavalo too, but skip the potatoes- nothing special. If you are in the mood for a cold sub their Daddy Wad w/ longhots is a very good italian sub. My only complaint is my fat ass can easily polish  off 2 of their subs and think nothing about it. But sometimes quality is more important than quantity .... sometimes. order ahead of time if u get a hot sandwich cause it is always busy and great food takes time.

After reading about this eatery in Philly Magazine, my brother and I stopped by on the way to the Flyers game on 2/12.

The venue is a tiny "shop" in Fishtown, with a few spaces to sit at the counter and some standing room as well.  After talking briefly with the chefs (both were extremely nice); my brother and I both ordered the "Arista", which consists of thin-shaved slices of house-roasted suckling pig with broccoli rabe & long "hots" (peppers to those not in the know) soaked in jus and put into a long roll.

The sandwich was just the right amount!  The pork was fork tender and the rabe was perfect....I would've preferred a little more peppers in mine but that was my only tiny complaint.  Bonus!  The sandwich comes with a free soda.

I will be going back to try some of their other sandwiches and sides (the potatoes "side" sounds awesome).

I've gotten the Gustaio lamb sausage sandwich twice and tried a bite of my boyfriends Panelle chickpea pancake sandwich. Both are a-mazing. $8 for the Gustaio is kind of on the expensive side for a regular lunch for me, but for a once in a while treat it's well worth the money, and the Panelle is a totally affordable $4. Friendly staff as well. Highly recommended.

my friends have been on me to try this place for a few months, and i was like yeah, yeah... whatever. chickpea sandwich blah. totally picturing another not so thoughtful hummus pita. EEEERT. WRONG!! Order the Panella Sandwich. remember to specify that you are vegan or they will put an unnecessary sauce (cheese? cream?).... it's a hot pita sandwich stuffed with grilled fennel, sun-dried tomato, lettuce, fresh herbs, and a grilled chickpea flour polenta. comes with a drink for a mere $4 (until they have you hooked and jack the price). I am told that the soups are sometimes vegetarian but never vegan (today they had tomato lentil w/ cream). it's a really cute place... only five stools at the counter and a little eating shelf on the rear wall, so it gets crowded fast. i have a feeling this will be addictive.

my sister and i went in around lunch time and were lucky enough to experience two things, one, paesano's lunch special (a soup and a half of a sandwich) and two, we met the owner. i can't say enough nice things about the owner, he is definitely a good guy and local! hooray! the lunch special was delicious! the soup was a cream and thick tomato lentil that was a little rich for me, but i still ate it all....i had half of the arrosto, the roasted pork sandwich with long hots and rabs and my sister had the chickpea wrap with arugula. both were delicious but i liked the chickpea sandwich the most, it was perfect. there was a little bit too much pork in mine, but maybe that was because it was a half sandwich and the proportions were a little off. i plan on going back at my earliest convenience and hopefully peter will be there again for the harassment....

This place is a real gem, with great inexpensive food and a friendly, non-fussy atmosphere. The Arista (roast suckling pig, broccoli rabe, longhots, and sharp provolone) is my personal favorite, but everything on the menu is a winner.
