I stayed here for the weekend with my son. The staff was VERY nice and went out of there way to make sure that my stay here was great! It was a great price for the area and I felt very safe! I would stay here again!

My comment is based in a visit from about ten years ago, before there was a Yelp.  Every time I visit Old Town I can't help but remember what happened here.  They committed a big, big no-no error.  While we were sleeping, our door opened and the lights were switched on.  Another couple had been issued the same room we were already checked into by mistake.

Nothing bad happened.  The couple apologized and left.  But this should never happen.  A lodging facility should be able to properly keep track of which rooms they've rented out and must never issue keys to an occupied room to other parties. You can just imagine the potential consequences to property or persons of a failure like this.

This was quite a long time ago, again.  By now perhaps they have all new staff and maybe computers that would prevent something like this.  I just felt the need to share this remarkable experience.

Had to stay here for 2 nights while my house was fumigated.  Clean rooms, super fast WiFi.  Best value i've found so far in mission valley area.  I will be booking rooms for my family this Christmas.

So the guys and I decided to go see a Chargers game this past weekend.  As usual my friend Erik took the role of planning out the logistics for all four of us.  We checked in on Saturday after some golf at "Riverwalk", which was not too far from the Inn. First impression at arrival? I was a little shocked at how run down it looked but I guess the nostalgic vibe got a hold of me and I decided to give it a chance.

Two courtesy drink tickets per room are provided at check in to lure you in for some cocktails and food.  Splurge a little and spend your savings on the Mexican Restaurant across the street.  The rooms are average, clean, no obvious cigarette burns on the counters and it didn't smell like smoke.

The beds were as hard as the floor. Not sure if there was even a mattress underneath the blankets.  Blanket were rough.  They felt like a shower towel that's been used over and over again without being washed.  I felt like Wilt Chamberlain in the showers but the water pressure was very good.

If you're planning on watching any t.v. in the room, be prepared to be disappointed.  The local news came in great,  which continually broadcasts all of the local crime, murder and robberies in the area.  Very reassuring viewing for those who are planning on walking and taking the trolleys everywhere they go.

We had the room to room option so we could have the suite feel going.

But please don't take any of this as complaining!  I mean, what do you expect for $60 a night?  I actually split the bill so in reality it was only $30 a night!  There's no way in Hell the Mrs. would ever let me get away with checking her into this place but for the boys night out...., it couldn't have been any more perfect!  No option for 1/2 stars otherwise this place would've gotten 3 1/2 stars!

By the way.........., The Chargers beat the Titans 33-25!

I love the fact that this hotel is under $80/night and is right next to Old Town. We can walk too and from the restaurants/bars and not have to worry about driving while intoxicated lol. I have stayed here once so far, second time will be tomorrow so I will update again. This hotel gives you the basic necessities, the mattress didn't have bed bugs (thank god!) but it wasn't that comfortable, and the noise level was good. we stayed on the second floor.  Hotel staff were very nice. Hope we have the same experience tomorrow!

So, if you really want a fancy hotel, there are plenty of antiseptic and more expensive places down the road @ Hotel Circle. The Padre Inn has character (in that nostalgic 70's way).

The Padre Inn is what it is... It's older, more run-down and cheap.

The staff was really helpful, the breakfast buffet for 6 bucks adequate. But the best thing about this hotel is that it is walking distance to the Old Town trolley station and stumbling distance from Old Town. So, for our first night in SD we didn't have to get into our car at all in order to savor the various happy hours and deluxe Margaritas SD has to offer...

The mirrored door on the closet almost fell on us, there were unknown high heel shoes under the bed, but the staff was chill about everything. There was little or no noise at night and our bed was comfy enough.

The cheapest place to stay in SD. So much better than the Super 8 down the road!

    Pros:

60 bucks get's you room directly in  OLD TOWN.

Dennis: The most amazing/informative/vivacious front desk clerk I've ever encountered. (True Story)

It's across from  Casa Guadalajara where the drinks are cheap and strong just how I like my men. JK  =)

    Cons:

The Bed....let me elaborate...it's HARD as a ROCK...and has cigarette burns in the comforter and the pillow are the size of mini marsh-mellows.

There's a great Lounge in the hotel but it's only opened on Fridays & Saturdays.

The blankets can be compared  to Keith Richard's skin, it's worn out from too much partying on it and it's really thin.

    SHAAA ---ZAMMMMM!!!!!!!

Even though there are some negetives they can be easily overlooked by LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION.  Also the people who work here are very professional and friendly and will help you find whatever it is your looking for.

In my case it was Great Mexican Food, Giant Margaritas, and a happy ending. =)

    The End!!!!

Think of Padre Trail as a Motel 6 that doesn't totally suck. Fine for quick trips TO SD, I would look for better accommodations for longer trips. Padre Trail is fairly run down, but clean. The staff is good. It's walking distance from Old Town.

Overall it is a 2 star hotel, but I'm giving it 3 due to it's relatively low rate.

I'm probably one of three people that would give this place more stars than the Grand Hyatt, but by God, I feel it is justified.

Why? Mostly, it is about expectations.  The Padre Trail Inn doesn't advertise a premium view of the Bay, and then give you and end room that gives you less than premium view.  Your view is the parking lot.

They give you two drink coupons to lure you to an average meal, which I was two tired to partake.  It is really close to Sea World, and the distance was just as they advertised.  The staff was low key and helpful, and the room had the best shower flow... I felt like Kramer trying out the Commando 450.  The downside was that the pipes squeaked when the rooms around me used the showers.

Again, if it were solely the quality of the linens and the bed, the Grand Hyatt would win hands down.  But for 1/2 the price and close proximity to the airport, Sea World and strip malls, this place met my expectations.

    Trailer is more like it

Among the last of the 50s-vintage, unremodeled ho-motels in SD, and I want to dig it the most, but the bar was closed.  Decor in the inside was classic dark woodishness and burgundy Bourbon Street remnants (from their 1977 installation).  Will re-review next time in town.  In the meantime, you should go there before it's torn down, which must be any day now.

This place really sucked. The bath room was the worst. Don't stay here. Bed leaves you ichy. Very ichy. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $20 some where else. Its 100% worth it! DONT STAY HERE!

Internet hasn't worked in THREE days--don't plan on getting ANY work done without going to a Starbucks. One of my neighbors has a dog that they chain outside their room and let bark all night. Thankfully, after 2 days of that, I called the front desk and she did something about it. Pets aren't even allowed, so I don't know what the deal is with that. Good parking situation.

Your regular run-of-the-mill INN. If you are from out of town and going to MEPS bright and early the next day, you usually stay here. In other words there are tons of pre-military dudes trying to call "escorts" before they go to bootcamp.

I've got to say, I wasn't going to add anything here, but Scott C.'s review leads me to believe I must. He describes a Padre Trail Inn that matches the Padre Trail Inn my family stopped staying at in the 1970s because it was run down. That it hasn't seen any changes since then should be telling...(I'm not sure of what, exactly).

Cheap, location location location.  Nicest people.  Hotel is old and shows its age.  But always seem to have a room available and the price cannot be beat.  I cannot say enough about the helpful staff and how nice they are.

I am writing to sing the praises of the Hotel Manager, Larry, and the Padre Trail Inn in general.   The space here on Yelp is not large enough, but Larry and the staff made the right business decisions several times in my parents' 5 day stay.   The hotel staff, beginning with Larry, was courteous.  In response to minor challenges, they were professional.  And the location of the Old Town based Padre Trail Inn is ideal. Overall, I grant it four stars, primarily on the professionalism of Larry, the Hotel Manager's, demeanor and professionalism.  I suggest:  do try the Padre Trail Inn.  You will be glad you stayed.
